So slow, so unbearably slow. How much longer could he just sit here? This was hard. So hard. Chaotic thoughts whispered in his ears and it took everything in his power to not listen to them. He should be fine, he should be fine just sitting here and listening to the others…everyone else was, why wasn’t he? ‘Because I’m not allowed to create chaos but everything here is so boring.’ He thought to himself and grumbled, as he adjusted himself in the chair. It was quite uncomfortable because of his tail being too big to fit anywhere properly but he can’t use magic on the chair to make it’s gap bigger and Rarity had just told him off not too long ago about ‘purposely moving around to gain attention.’ Discord decided that when he was told not to use his chaos magic to ruin the meeting that he would actually try to listen because Fluttershy said he should because she didn’t want him to get in trouble. He nearly snickered at the absurdity of the situation but also attempted to stop himself, it came out in an odd kind of snort-ish breath of air that had some of the posh, stuck-up looking ponies (and other creatures) glare at him, thinking that he was causing trouble or just generally trying to be annoying and weird or trying to get attention or- Oh. oh. When did he start thinking these thoughts? They were weird, he didn’t like them…it was almost like he cared what others thought of him? He almost shrugged but then remembered that it was his mind and that no one else could hear what he was saying in it. Well…their own loss. Then he went back to his previous subject, he didn’t care what others thought of him, he only cared what Fluttershy thought of him. Right…? All this thinking was making his head hurt…he’s not even in his thinking tree! He let out a small, almost inaudible sigh and Fluttershy, dear old Fluttershy, who was sat next to him looked him in the eye and gave him a soft smile of encouragement and then turned back to pay attention to the meeting once again. Huh. He couldn’t believe he was actually here, and it was almost his decision. The meeting was set by the Princesses: Celestia—Princess of the sun, Luna—Princess of the moon, Twilight—Princess of Friendship and maybe Cadence—Princess of Love? Well she was here but he didn’t think she really helped plan the meeting too much. The rest of the main six were there, as well as Mayor Mare and some stuck-up looking ponies he didn’t know personally. There were also creatures other than ponies (himself included) such as Thorax and some of his changelings, dragons were there (including Spike but he was mostly there because Twi was) and Ember with some other dragon, there were also griffons: King Grover, Grandpa Gruff, Gilda and a few others and some other creatures that he didn’t care about either. Discord had to keep reminding himself that he’s actually there for a reason. This meeting was meant to be so different creatures with different types of powers or different lands could come together and discuss boring stuff. He could technically be there representing the Draconequui but last time he checked he was the only one in Equestria- well- in the world in fact, unless you count Eris but she’s in another dimension and who cares about her. So he just guesses he’s there because he’s the Lord of Chaos. They made the Lord of Chaos go to a meeting. Haha. Very funny. They can have their laugh. Can he go home now? A few minutes passed and nothing improved for Discord, he was very experienced yes but Chaos magic just doesn’t listen to anyone sometimes, that’s how it works. Discord looked around anxiously, for anything, anything that could make the chaos calm but nothing came to mind. Maybe that had to do with the fact that he was putting so much effort into not using magic and not doing something ‘wrong’ that he felt like he couldn’t even think properly anymore. When the creatures all started to merge into conversations rather than just listen to one person talk and then individually put their opinion out there Discord sighed a bit in relief, that was a tiny bit better, still not enough though. “Are you alright, Discord?” Discord turned to his right to see Spike, who had asked the question, and Fluttershy frowning at him in concern. Discord quickly looked around and seen that no one else heard the question, thankfully not because they were all too busy in their own conversations. Discord gave a fake boyish smile to his two concerned friends— was Spike his friend? “I’m fine, bored but fine.” He answered in a half truth. “Hmm, if you say so, and yeah I get it I’m a bit bored too” Spike said with a smile on his face. Fluttershy seemed a bit less easy to please but she shook her head and smiled as well. “You’re doing good.” She said to him proudly. That broke his heart. Good? But he’s struggling so much…how is that doing good? He can’t even keep his emotions in check… Princess Twilight Sparkle spoke again and the conversations quieted down. Discord bit his lip. The more boring stuff was back again. A few minutes passed until Discord felt it. Oh sweet Celestia no— He thought anxiously but he couldn’t stop it. Some of his magic escaped. He didn’t even want to know what it did. What he did. Nothing happened. He calmed down just a bit. He was bored so he looked over the table when he seen a mare look into her purse. And then when she opened it she screamed and something jumped out. And everyone turned to Discord in anger, fear or disappointment. He shrunk under their gazes (for once not literally.) “Oops.” //-------------------------------------------------------// Aftermath //-------------------------------------------------------// Aftermath Started: 13th September 2022 Rewritten + Finished: 8th October 2022 Uploaded to A03: 8th October 2022 Uploaded to Fimfiction.Net: 9th October 2022 Discord made a move to speak first, though for a few seconds his mouth opened and closed in thought of what he was going to say until he decided on what to do. He spoke up, frowning, “I would try and explain my innocence but I know who you are and I assume that you’d prefer to sit here with a serious expression on your face, looking at me disappointed?” He placed a brown arm on the desk that he and the princess were sitting at and propped his head up with a claw, a bored expression on his face. Twilight sighed, “I know it’s who you are to cause chaos but I have to admit, that was the wrong move. It was the middle of a meeting, Discord!” Big violet eyes met red mismatched ones and silence rang once again. Discord huffed and then thought to himself, ‘This serious stuff really is hurting my poor head, how do the princesses do it?’ He shrugged. “It’s chaos magic, sometimes it doesn’t appreciate being placed in the naughty corner.” Twilight raised an eyebrow, “You’re saying that you had nothing to do with this?” The draconequus did a mock gesture of thinking, “Well, it just so happens that I share similar views to my magic. That’s probably for the best, after all we all know what can happen when the pony and her magic don't co-exist.” He sent a knowing look to the purple alicorn. Twilight felt a small flicker of anger flash through her and was about to retort until she saw the smug look on the chimera’s face. She exhaled slowly and relaxed, setting an indifferent look on her face once again. “This is about you, Discord, not anyone else. You can change the subject as much as you may like but it doesn’t change the fact that you just disrupted a meeting, an important one may I add, that many creatures are mad at you about.” “Why should I care what they think about me?” That caught her off guard. He took it as an invitation to continue. “I mean, it’s not like I haven’t had to deal with ponies— and other creatures— hating my guts before.” He slumped in his chair, crossing his arms, an intrigued look on his face for what the reply might be. The princess shook her head, frown still etched on her face and Discord pondered back to the time when the once youthful face was not plagued with such maturity for her age. “Discord, it’s bad enough that you had to deal with others not trusting you after you were reformed and I find it just as bad that you seem to shrug it aside and act like it doesn’t affect you. You’re doing a good damned job at hiding it but I know it must negatively affect you in some way, it would hurt anyone in that situation.” Discord felt a familiar smirk tug on his face once he heard that. His relatively hidden and quite small amount of considerateness could argue that the words had some impact on his damaged heart because someone understood that as much as he may argue that he’s always fine it isn’t always true. However, if he was being honest the slip up of language that the Princess only shows to her closest friends when she gets too emotional was very funny to him, he didn’t know if she even noticed it but if she did she was probably too proud to admit it. He then paused when he realised that there was an awkward silence once again, “Well what if I don’t fit into the definition of ‘anyone.’” The noise of a face…hoof…radiated through the room. He smiled. No heart wrenching feelings on his watch. Author's Note I could’ve continued this but honestly I think it went on a bit- I tried to focus less on thoughts and more on conversations. Twi may seem ooc but eehhh- and Discord almost most definitely does xD I might add another chapter after this if anyone really wants to see it but I can’t guarantee. Also help the title is rubbish. It was either Aftermath or ‘Sit and discuss just doesn’t work out’ yeah be glad I changed it last second 🤣 Thanks for reading!
