Discord's Patchwork Adventure
Ascension
Previous ChapterNext ChapterDiscord’s group returned to his castle about two hours after the sun had reached its peak. The moment their presence was known Twilight came barrelling down a staircase.
“It’s about time you came back!” she said in a slightly panicked voice.
“Is something wrong?” Discord asked, his senses suddenly on high alert.
“Rarity has to make sure your tux actually fits and we have less than half an hour before the wedding!” the princess said. “Not to mention I haven’t checked to see how everypony is doing with last minute decorations, the guests started arriving and nopony was here to greet them, and Rainbow Dash nearly set Fluttershy’s gown on fire!”
“Wow, Twilight, breathe!” Spike said, rushing forward to calm down the hysterical pony.
“I can make sure the guests are taken care of,” said Starlight.
“Allow me to assist you,” voiced Trixie.
“And I can see how decorations are going,” Cordy volunteered.
“Plus I’m sure it won’t take an hour for me to get into a tux,” Discord said.
“There, you see,” Spike consoled, smiling at her. “No need to panic.”
Twilight weakly smiled. “Thank you- but we really do need to get you dressed, Discord!”
She began physically pushing him up the stairs. Discord rolled his eyes before snapping into the dressing room where a handsome tuxedo displayed on a draconequus mannequin stood waiting for him. While the dress shirt was white, the jacket and bowtie had been magicked to change color at random; a request Rarity reluctantly agreed to. Not even a minute later the unicorn herself practically broke down the door.
“Well? What are you waiting for?” she demanded, striding in.
Discord frowned. “Nice to see you too.”
Rarity looked rather frazzled as she headed over to the mannequin and began scoping the outfit with her critical eye. “Don’t get me wrong, Discord, I hope you had a fabulous time, but we really are in a bit of a hurry; you returned later than expected.” She stared at him pointedly.
He blinked. “What? Do you expect me to get dressed with you watching?”
“Yes!” she snipped. “I need to make sure it fits!”
“Fine,” he grumbled, magicking the tux to his person. “There. Happy?”
Rarity straightened the crooked bowtie and stepped back, observing every inch of him. After a moment she smiled. “Perfect!”
Discord folded his arms. “I told you there was nothing to worry about.” The jacket and bowtie turned red and the draconequus grinned at the change. “Looks like the color changing spell works perfectly.”
Rarity moaned quietly in defeat. “Right, let’s get you outside.”
The two of them left the room and traveled down a large staircase, heading towards the gardens.
“Tell me, how is she?” Discord asked as they went.
“She’s excited,” Rarity smiled. “And she looks a vision! Oh, I have to say, her dress is one of the best I’ve ever designed! It’s absolutely stunning! You’re going to love it!”
Discord smiled. “I’m sure I will.”
When they entered the garden Discord felt like he’d stepped into a wedding catalog. The stereotypical aisle separated the guests, the grass littered with pink rose petals, while strands of fairy lights looped back and forth overhead, their ends attached to the surrounding trees. A huge circular arch, wrapped in soft pink tulle, was tastefully decorated in a single cluster of flowers near the top. Twilight stood directly under the arch in a lovely midnight blue gown, a warm smile now on her face. The groomsponies and bridesponies (minus Rarity) were already standing on either side of the arch, the latter wearing colors of either pink or green and the former wearing a delightfully bright orange. The clash of color brought a smile to Discord’s face; that little mix of chaos, along with the chairs that were not in perfect rows, were the small touches he needed to feel comfortable in this romantic atmosphere.
The guests consisted of his family, Fluttershy’s family, the princesses, animals Fluttershy had cared for over the years, Zecora, Dr. Fauna, Mayor Mare, the CMCs, Tree Hugger, the Smooze, Ahuizotl, Kevin (the monster that lived in Discord’s dimension), the Rainbooms, and Cordy.
“I’m going to go check on Fluttershy again,” Rarity muttered. “We should be starting in a few minutes. Don’t you dare leave that arch!”
“Where else would I go?” Discord muttered as he magicked himself to the front.
“You look nice,” Twilight commented as his tux turned a putrid green.
“You don’t look half bad yourself, princess,” he said. “Tell me, did Rarity poke and prod you to perfection as well?”
“Naturally.”
“None of us were spared,” muttered Applejack with a disgruntled frown.
“One of the reasons we came back as late as we did,” Spike whispered beside him. “None of us wanted her breathing down our necks while we changed.”
Discord smirked, staring at his side of the wedding party. Starlight winked at him, her bowtie purposefully off center. The others had similar wardrobe malfunctions. Spike’s white shirt was wrinkled, Big Mac’s was buttoned wrong, Thorax had misplaced his bowtie altogether, Trixie’s jacket was inside out, and Cordy was wearing his entire outfit backwards.
“Tell me you planned this,” he muttered out of the side of his mouth.
“Of course we did!” Spike chuckled. “We’re your groomsponies; there had to be some chaos in all the formalities.”
Truly touched, Discord turned to them and sincerely mumbled his thanks. Spike opened his mouth to say more but Rarity appeared, taking her place with the rest of the bridesponies. The birds started to sing and Discord looked up. Everything and everycreature disappeared except for the glorious angel standing at the other end of the aisle.
Her white dress looked like the wings of a butterfly, the draped sides swooping in three increasing folds into a train. An inch above the hem was lined with iridescent fabric that shimmered in the sun like diamonds. Her hair was pulled up in a big loop, clipped together with the bluebell hairpiece he’d given her yesterday. Light makeup lined her sparkling teal eyes full of love and happiness.
Rarity was right; she was a vision.
“Wow,” Discord breathed, his eyes turning into large glistening hearts. Fluttershy blushed, her smile increasing as she closed the distance between them.
Stopping in front of Twilight, the two faced each other. The princess began the ceremony. Discord wished he could say that he paid attention to what she said but he didn’t hear a word; he was too enamored by the beauty before him. It wasn’t until Spike lightly nudged the back of his tail that the draconequus realized he was supposed to say something. Blinking, he looked at Twilight who was staring at him expectantly.
“I do,” Discord said automatically.
Thankfully it was the right thing to say because Twilight then addressed Fluttershy. “Do you, Fluttershy, take Discord, the Lord of Chaos, to be your lawfully wedded companion for all eternity?”
“I do,” she declared happily.
“I now pronounce you-” Discord looped his arms around Fluttershy and began kissing her- “draconequus and mare,” Twilight finished, smiling humorously.
The guests cheered, Rainbow Dash made a sonic rainboom, Fluttershy moaned happily, and Discord used all of his willpower not to immediately relocate to the honeymoon he had prepared for his stunning bride. Somepony cleared their throat and the newlyweds ceased their kiss, smiling unashamedly at each other. With the ceremony now finished, family and friends congregated to wish congratulations. Discord’s family waited until the mortals had exchanged hugs and words before approaching. The euphoria Discord had been riding on shifted into excited anticipation as they advanced.
“Congratulations, Discord,” Amity said, giving her brother a heartfelt hug. “I’ve never seen you so happy.”
“Thanks sis,” he smiled, hugging her back. “Say, are you going to tell me who your plus one is? Mother hinted that you would be bringing somepony special.”
Amity’s white cheeks darkened in a delightful blush as she fumbled her reply. “Did she now? Well, um, I suppose you’ll get to see him later. At the reception.”
“You mean he’s not here?” Discord pressed, looking around.
“Oh, he’s here,” Abysm growled.
Mother Nature nudged him. “We can worry about your grumblings over Amity’s choice later. This moment is Discord and Fluttershy’s. Congratulations, son. I have waited eons for this day!”
“Thank you, Mother,” Discord said, hugging her.
“And you look positively radiant, Fluttershy.”
Discord’s bride smiled, her form so tiny next to the giant celestial figures. “Thank you very much.”
Mother Nature leaned forward eagerly. “Well, are you ready?”
Fluttershy’s eyes widened slightly. “Now?”
“But of course! Your marriage to Discord is complete. It’s only natural for the Ascension ceremony to take place.”
“Mother, I’m all for spontaneity but don’t you think you’re being a little too hasty?”
“It’s okay, Discord,” Fluttershy said, laying a hoof on his hand.
The draconequus frowned. “Are you sure?”
Fluttershy nodded. Discord searched her countenance and was surprised. There wasn’t an ounce of fear or nerves. His pony was perfectly at ease. A hint of excitement even sparkled in her eyes.
“Will it take long?” the pegasus asked.
“For you it might,” Mother Nature answered, “But for those observing it will be mere moments.”
“May my friends and family witness the change?”
“Of course!”
Ten minutes later Fluttershy’s family, the bearers, Spike, Shining Armor, and the princesses were gathered inside the castle’s great hall; Trixie was tasked with occupying the rest of the guests outside with a spectacular firework show.
“You’re doin’ it now?!” Applejack cried in shock.
Fluttershy nodded.
“But what about the reception party?” Pinkie Pie no less than demanded.
“Fear not my little pony,” Mother Nature reassured, “The Ascension process will be but a moment.”
Cirrus Swirl nervously cleared his throat. “Pardon me,” he practically squeaked under their sudden gaze, “But, what is going on?”
“You didn’t tell your family?” Rainbow Dash accused, rounding on Fluttershy.
The yellow pegasus blushed. “I was going to during the holiday-”
“But we were angrily run out of town by half of Cloudsdale,” Discord finished sourly.
“I heard about that,” said Celestia with a heavy frown. “I’m so sorry that that happened, Discord.”
The draconequus shrugged. “Nothing I’m not used to. Anyway, in answer to your question, Cirrus Swirl, Fluttershy is about to become a goddess.”
“A what now?” Zephyr Breeze said as his parents’ mouths dropped.
“G-Goddess?” Daisy May repeated.
“Part of joining our family is the option of Ascension,” Mother Nature explained, “Becoming a deity.”
“And I chose that option,” Fluttershy bravely declared, approaching her parents. “Mom, Dad, this is what I want. Discord is immortal. I couldn’t bear to die one day and leave him behind.”
“Sweetheart, are you sure?” Daisy May pressed.
“I’m sure,” she smiled.
“Does this mean you’re gonna get powers like Discord?” asked Zephyr. “Because I would love to have a sibling who could get me anything I wanted.”
“Technically you gained one of those the second Fluttershy married me,” Discord pointed out.
“Zephyr, we’re not going to give you anything you want,” Fluttershy said quickly because her brother looked as if he was about to throw out a whole list of suggestions at Discord’s revelation.
“Oh, come on, sis! It’ll only be a snap,” he argued. “Besides, I don’t ask for much. Just enough to live in comfort for the rest of my days.”
Fluttershy wasn’t the only one who facehoofed.
“Forget it, Zeph,” said Rainbow Dash.
Zephyr began to pout.
Discord was growing tired of this conversation and he wasn’t the only one. Abysm, currently sporting the form of a large black alicorn with red flowing hair, caught his eye and scowled. Clearing his throat, the Ruler of Tartarus said, “If I’m not mistaken, Miss Lulamoon is going to run out of fireworks in two minutes. We should get this over with.”
Mother Nature took that as her cue. “Are you ready, Fluttershy?”
The yellow pegasus took a moment to look at all of her family and friends before glancing at Discord. A mutual feeling of love sprung between them. Her smile deepened. “I’m ready,” she declared.
Discord suddenly swooped down and hugged her. “Remember, I’ll always love you. No matter what.”
The pegasus gave him a loving kiss. “See you soon,” she promised.
Discord nodded and stepped back, his heart saddening slightly as he gazed one last time upon his pegasus. Amity wrapped a comforting wing around his shoulder.
“Whatever she’ll be,” she whispered, “we’ll love her.”
Somehow Discord knew his sister wasn’t just speaking of their family but of everypony in the room. He nodded, keeping his gaze fixed on Fluttershy. She looked so small in front of his parents but her withers weren’t shaking; she wasn’t afraid and he was proud to see that. She’d come so far and he couldn’t wait to see what she would soon become.
“Let it be known to all who bear witness, this pegasus has earned the right of Ascension,” Abysm began.
“Through love and marriage, this creature has chosen to follow her heart,” Mother Nature continued. “We commend her bravery and declare her worthy of this gift.”
Their horns began to glow. Fluttershy was lifted off the ground. A green energy erupted under her hooves and began to swirl around her, shooting up her body until she was fully encased in a literal cocoon. The surface solidified and the outline of the pegasus was lost to their view. Nopony dared speak, each individual focused solely on the hardened green shell.
Discord’s breath caught, his molecules feeling as if they were on fire. Powerful magic was occurring inside that cocoon; he could feel it transforming his beloved but he still couldn’t tell what she was becoming. Unconsciously he leaned forward, his eyes fixed unblinkingly on his hidden love, his heart hammering in his chest.
An eternity was in reality mere seconds before the color of the cocoon transformed from green to yellow. A pink crack appeared, the fracture ripping as Fluttershy’s new form moved around inside.
“It is time,” Mother Nature whispered, as if she were calling to the creature within.
A pair of yellow hooves emerged near the bottom of the cocoon, pushing it further apart. Discord’s heart soared as a beautiful butter yellow pony appeared, slipping gracefully out of her shell. Her mane and tail were still the same pink that he loved but now held a glisten, as if each individual strand was coated with permanent glitter. Her teal eyes sparkled with newfound clarity, eternal kindness, and joy. She was taller, her height and form the same as that of Princess Cadence. But the biggest change, the one that left everypony gaping, were the wings unfurling from her back. They were long, thin, and translucent with a hint of sparkle that exhibited a powerful magic Discord had never felt before. He was speechless. The newborn goddess was, undoubtedly, the most exquisite creature he had ever seen.
“Fluttershy,” he whispered.
The goddess blinked up at him and sheepishly smiled, hiding somewhat in her mane. Discord’s heart melted further; she was still his pony. He rushed forward and kissed her, happily scooping her into his arms. She was just as light as she was before and her new wings fluttered with a gentle whisper as she happily looped her longer forelegs around him. The two pulled away laughing, their hearts bursting with joy.
Mother Nature clapped her hooves together and squealed like a filly, surprising everypony. “Oh, she turned out exactly as I’d hoped!”
Discord set Fluttershy back on the ground and stood back to admire her. “Just as beautiful as before,” he said, winking at her.
Fluttershy blushed.
“Fluttershy…?”
The goddess turned to look at her friends and family who were staring at her with open mouths. She smiled hesitantly. “Hello.”
That was all it took for them to converge.
“You look AWESOME!” Rainbow Dash exclaimed, hovering over her and eyeing her wings.
“Your wings are like a butterfly’s,” Twilight declared, eyeing them with intense fascination.
“They’re positively stunning!” Rarity swooned. “And your mane! It looks like it’s covered in diamonds!”
“Ya look mighty fine, Fluttershy,” Applejack smiled.
“And you were worried,” Pinkie Pie teased, poking Rainbow Dash in the ribs.
“I must say, I’m surprised you’re not an alicorn,” said Celestia.
“We all are,” Luna put in.
“But this new form suits you,” Cadence grinned.
“Auntie pretty!” Flurry Heart chirped from her father’s foreleg.
“Auntie?” Shining Armor repeated. His eyes widened as he looked at Discord. “Wait a minute; back in your dimension she called you ‘unca’. Uncle?!”
Discord grinned. ‘Finally caught up, eh, Shining? Took you long enough.”
Shining Armor’s jaw dropped. “How?!”
“I’ll explain later, dear,” Cadence promised, kissing her husband’s cheek.
While their friends and family continued to mingle around Fluttershy and ask questions on what her Ascension was like, Discord slipped over to where his family was watching the proceedings.
“She’s still a pony,” he observed.
“Noticed that, have you?” Abysm snarked.
Discord scowled. “I was merely wondering why?”
Mother Nature grinned mischievously. “Oh, we have our reasons, son. Besides, you can’t tell me you disapprove?”
“On the contrary,” Discord said with a true hint of gratitude. “She’s perfect.”
“She really is,” Amity agreed, grinning.
“She’s finally become what she was always meant to be,” Mother Nature said happily. “It was such a struggle, watching her all these years knowing that she wasn’t complete.”
“What do you mean by that?” asked Amity before Discord could.
Their mother winked. “I’ll tell you later. Now isn’t the right moment.”
“I hate when she does that,” Discord grumbled.
“You and me both,” Amity sighed.
The two had learned long ago that pestering their mother over secrets would never yield results.
Their little family discussion was then interrupted by a shriek from Rarity, the unicorn demanding to know what happened to Fluttershy’s wedding dress.
“Oops,” Abysm whispered, grinning.
“Father, did you intentionally destroy it during the transformation?” Amity demanded.
“Maaaybe,” he said, looking at the ceiling.
Discord was trying not to laugh as Amity and Mother Nature both looked angrily at the black alicorn.
“Rarity worked really hard on that dress!” Amity hissed at the same time Mother Nature huffed, “I can’t believe you!”
“Oh, stop your caterwauling,” Abysm grumbled. “I’m entitled to a little fun! Besides, it’s nothing Discord can’t fix.”
“Always having me do your dirty work, old man,” Discord jibed before teleporting in front of a distressed Rarity. “Never fear, little fashionista! I can fix this!”
He snapped and the whole party was teleported outside where the reception was taking place except Fluttershy now wore a dashing black fitted tux, pink bowtie, and top hat while the Lord of Chaos sported a lovely flowing wedding dress.
“Discord!” Rarity exclaimed, looking as if she were about to faint.
The draconequus shook his finger. “Uh-uh, my reception, my rules! Fluttershy said so!”
“I did,” the goddess admitted, a hint of a smile on her face. “It’s okay, Rarity. I don’t mind.”
“But-! But-! The dress!” the unicorn cried.
“You mean, this dress?” Discord asked, holding up the flawless creation. Rarity snatched it in her hooves and hugged it to her chest, thanking the draconequus profusely. “Like I could ever let anything happen to such a gem!” Discord huffed with an exasperated smile.
Rarity smiled up at him. “Seriously, thank you.”
“Anytime.”
“Now that that crisis is averted, let’s party!” Pinkie Pie shouted before quietly adding, “Don’t know if you noticed but the guests are all staring and we need to move this thing along.”
Discord perked up and noticed that they were indeed studying Fluttershy with gawking eyes; everycreature except Cordy. He was smirking and enjoying the show. At Pinkie Pie’s shout, Rainboom Pinkie rushed over to the DJ setup and threw on some music.
“Announcing Discord and Fluttershy!”
Discord held his paw out to his bride. “Shall we?”
Giggling at his wiggling eyebrows, Fluttershy placed her hoof in his paw and allowed him to sweep her out onto the dance floor. The applause was somewhat delayed but grew enthusiastic as the couple bowed. The music changed into a soft piano intro. Fluttershy tilted her head, staring at Discord questioningly.
“I found a song while in the Mirror World,” he muttered. “I thought it appropriate.”
To everypony’s surprise -except Discord’s- Cordy pulled out a microphone and began to sing.
The lyrics were soft, piano supported, and expressed Discord’s feelings perfectly. They held promises of always being there, of remaining true in both word and deed, and labeling Fluttershy as the angel specifically given to him. By the time the song ended the couple’s eyes were shining with love and Discord couldn’t resist kissing his bride. Their friends and family cheered.
“I love you,” he whispered as the applause from the crowd around them swelled.
“I love you too,” she smiled happily.
Discord grinned and straightened. While happy, his chaotic side was itching for dominance so, in true Discord fashion, he decided to end the romantic moment with a change in subject. “It’s time to cut the bouquet!”
“The bouquet?” Fluttershy repeated, confused.
“Don’t ya mean the cake?” Applejack corrected.
Discord’s grin widened. “No, I’m pretty sure it was the bouquet. Where are those flowers? Ah, here they are!” He pulled a huge array of roses out of Fluttershy’s ear. His wife giggled. “Now all we need is a fork!”
The others stared as he pulled a fork from his mouth and proceeded to cut the flowers without any effort. Passing a bloom to Fluttershy, he wiggled his eyebrows. Grinning, she took the flower and waited until he had plucked his own bloom. Holding his out to her, she leaned forward and ate it without hesitation. Her eyes lit with joy.
“It tastes like a strawberry!” she said.
“Like an actual strawberry?” asked Rainbow Dash.
Fluttershy nodded.
“My turn!” Discord sang, sipping the flower out of Fluttershy’s hoof with a straw. “Mmmm cucumber sandwiches! My favorite!”
Fluttershy laughed.
A few brave souls tried the rest of the flowers, each proclaiming theirs tasted like something they liked but with the texture of cake. It was quite a bizarre experience and Discord got a kick out of seeing their reactions; his family ate the flowers without any kind of surprise, each of them used to his shenanigans from eons past.
While the others were flower-tasting, Fluttershy wandered from Discord’s side to talk to Celestia and Luna; many of the other guests had broken into little groups to converse as well. Discord himself had stepped back, letting his eyes wander in the moment until he noticed something that made him do a double take. His eyes practically fell out of his head at the sight of Amity kissing Spike in a partially concealed corner.
“I see I’m not the only one surprised.”
Discord whirled around to see Twilight also staring at the bizarre couple. “You knew about this?” he demanded.
The purple princess frowned. “No, actually.”
Discord raised an eyebrow. “You disapprove?”
“Not at all!” she said quickly, noticing a hint of anger in his voice. “I’m just upset Spike didn’t say anything.”
Discord narrowed his eyes as he zoned back in on the affectionate couple. “I share your agitation.”
“Towards Spike or Amity?”
“Both!” he snapped. “Mother said that she had a special somepony. I just never imagined that it would be-”
“Spike? Yeah, I didn’t see that one coming either. Then again, I haven’t seen much of Spike with everything that’s been going on.”
Discord snorted. “I haven’t seen much of Amity either. I’d bet your castle they’ve been holed up together this whole time.”
“And what’s wrong with that?”
Discord jumped and turned as Rarity came trotting over. She was staring at Spike affectionately. “I’m quite happy for him. He deserves somepony special.”
“I’m sure you’re relieved,” Discord jibed sourly.
Rarity frowned. “I was never ignorant of his feelings. I just never returned them. He’s a wonderful friend and I am more than happy to support him in finding love with another. Amity is a lucky pony. I wish them all the happiness in the world.”
“And I’m sure Discord feels the same way,” Applejack teased, joining the conversation.
“Do I?” he retorted angrily.
“Of course you do, silly!” said Pinkie Pie, popping out of nowhere, as per usual. “Spike is one of your best friends and an honorary Bearer! He’s the best creature Amity could choose.”
“He’s a little on the small side, though,” said Rainbow Dash, swooping in.
“Why are all of you suddenly surrounding me?” Discord demanded.
“The explosion of fire around your immediate person kind of drew us over,” Rarity said.
“What fire?” he said, examining himself. He couldn’t see a hint of flame.
“It showed up while you were talking to Twilight. She discreetly motioned us over. Can’t have ya destroying yer own wedding reception just because you’re not happy with yer sister’s choice,” Applejack explained.
A sudden flash of pink light appeared next to Discord, revealing Fluttershy a moment later. “Are you alright?” she asked.
“You can teleport?!” Rainbow Dash cried.
“I’m fine,” Discord grumbled.
“Since when can you teleport?” Rainbow demanded.
“You don’t look fine,” Fluttershy said.
“Did you know she could teleport?” the rainbow pony demanded of their other friends. They all shook their heads.
“I’m just upset about Amity’s sudden change in relationship status,” Discord growled.
Fluttershy looked where he was pointing and happily gasped. “Oh my goodness! Spike and Amity? I had no idea!”
“None of us did,” Discord growled.
“Are you going to tell us how you suddenly teleported over here?” Rainbow Dash interrupted, practically flying right in Fluttershy’s face.
The goddess blinked. “Oh, um, I sensed that Discord was upset so I began looking for him. My wings grew warm and next thing I knew I was right in front of him.”
“Your wings are magical?” Twilight’s eyes lit with excitement. “I have so many questions!”
“Not now!” Discord interrupted, poking her snout. “In case you’ve forgotten, that’s your brother over there!”
“And your sister,” she said, shoving his claw away. “Personally, I approve. Amity is the Spirit of Order and Harmony. I couldn’t think of a better choice.”
“You’re not bothered by the fact that he’s practically a baby compared to her?”
“That’s rich, coming from you.”
Everypony gasped at the sudden appearance of Amity and Spike.
Abashed but unwilling to show it, Discord folded his arms and snapped, “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“You’re thousands of years old yet you married a pony whose only seen two decades.”
“Um, I’m actually 27.”
“At least Fluttershy is a fully grown mare by her society standards,” Discord argued. “Spike is barely a teenager to his people!”
“It’s not like we’re planning on getting married tomorrow!” Amity snapped. “Not that it’s any of your business.”
“It is my business! You’re my sister!”
“And that immediately gives you the keys to my-”
“ENOUGH!”
Silence reigned as everypony stared in shock at the little dragon who had shoved himself between the very angry siblings.
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you guys about seeing Amity,” said Spike, “but we’ve all had a lot going on. There hasn’t exactly been a good time to get everypony together until now. Besides, our relationship is still pretty new.”
“Didn’t look all that new to me,” Discord griped.
“So we’re more familiar with each other,” Spike said while blushing. “What’s wrong with that?”
“What’s wrong is that you’re locking lips with my sister after I told you not to pursue her!” Discord snapped.
“To be fair, your warning was a little late,” Spike chuckled nervously.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“We shared our first kiss right before he went off to stop Shadow,” Amity revealed.
“You WHAT?!”
Discord was a rage of emotions, his thoughts swirling around in his brain like a blender on puree. Turn Spike into something unpleasant? Punch the pink dragon in the face? Squeal in delight that his sister had made an excellent choice? Bury Spike alive? Sever all ties of friendship with the dragon for keeping this vitally important information from him? Throw flowers around and celebrate? Plunge the world into chaos because Amity deserved it? Okay, maybe that last one was a little extreme but still-!
A pair of yellow forelegs suddenly wrapped around his shoulders and the large teal eyes of his beloved consumed his chaotic vision.
“Discord,” she said soothingly, “it’s okay.”
“It is NOT!” he argued, gently pushing her back. “This demented little lilliputian thinks it’s okay to-”
“To what, Discord?” Amity interrupted. “Kiss me?”
“YES!”
“And what makes Spike unworthy of my affections?”
“I-He-You-”
“Exactly,” she said, staring angrily at her brother. “He’s the most worthy choice I could have made and you know it!”
“Can we maybe take this somewhere else?” asked Fluttershy, noticing the attracted attention of their guests.
“Gladly!” Discord said, snapping his fingers.
Time stopped and he removed Amity from the scene, the two of them reappearing inside his castle.
Amity stomped her hoof in frustration. “I don’t see what the big deal is! I thought you’d be happy for me! I was happy for you when you found Fluttershy! I didn’t get all huffy and protective. Why are you?”
Discord summoned up a giant glass of chocolate milk and downed the contents in seconds. Flinging the glass into the wall where it poofed into powder, he twisted around and slammed his back against a nearby pillar, folding his arms as he did so.
“I’m your older brother, Amity,” he reminded. “Did you honestly expect me to react any differently?”
“You’re chaos! I’m never sure how you’re going to react!” she retorted.
“That’s…fair.” Discord sighed, rubbing his eyes. “Look, I’m sorry.”
“You’re apologizing?” She looked stunned.
He chuckled. “Astounding, isn’t it? Thank Fluttershy for my newfound humility. I know I overreacted but I was caught up in the moment. Truth be told, there is a part of me that is not okay with you having a special somepony- only because I don’t think anycreature is good enough for you.”
“That’s… surprisingly sweet of you, Discord.”
“Yes, yes, let’s not dwell on that,” he said, waving his hand.
She grinned. “Okay. Well, while we’re being open about our feelings, can I tell you why I chose Spike?”
“If you must,” Discord moaned, though secretly he was very interested to know how the tiny pink dragon had wiggled his way into his sister’s heart.
“By now I think it’s pretty obvious I favor Twilight and her friends,” Amity said sheepishly. Discord nodded. “You have to understand, their friendship is one of the strongest I’ve ever seen among ponies. They’ve been able to access my power in ways no creature ever has.”
“And this is related to Spike how?” Discord interrupted.
“Because he’s been there, with them, from the beginning. He’s even played integral parts in helping them resolve issues with their friendships and saving the world. He’s kind, he’s honest, he’s self-sacrificing.”
Discord’s eyes widened. “Holy chaos. You’ve been in love with him for years, haven’t you?”
Amity blushed scarlet. “Is it that obvious?”
“Very, now that I’m paying attention. When I really think about it, it’s not that surprising. He kind of possesses all the traits you stand for. Why wouldn’t you be attracted to that?”
Amity smiled. “He’s wonderful.”
Discord sighed. “Well, he’s one of the few true friends I have so I suppose I can approve of him. It’s better than turning him into a jelly salad.”
“Discord.”
“Kidding.” He grinned. “Maybe.”
Amity rolled her eyes and clipped his shoulder playfully with her wing. “Jerk.”
Grin widening, Discord gave her a one-armed hug. “I suppose this means we’re okay then?”
“Yeah,” she said.
“Good. But don’t expect me to always be so forgiving.”
Amity grinned. “A kind Discord? We wouldn’t want that!”
“Of course not! That’s Fluttershy’s department. I just serve as her liaison from time to time.”
“Sure you do.”
Done with tender feelings, Discord scowled. “I think it’s time to return to the party.”
And without waiting for her answer, he snapped his fingers, returning them to their friends and resuming time.
The guests were still rather nervous, staring at Discord restlessly. It took him a second to understand why. Deciding it was better to change things up than explain himself -honestly, his affairs were none of their business anyway- he cleared his throat and kissed his concerned wife on the cheek.
“Everything’s fine, Flutters,” he assured before raising his voice, “It’s time to throw the cake!”
“Throw the- did he just say-?”
Before Applejack could finish her question Discord summoned a piece of cake and threw it right in Celestia’s face. There was a gasp as everypony stared, horrified, at their sovereign.
Very slowly, Celestia wiped the frosting from her eyes with her hoof and stared at Discord who wiggled his eyebrows with a goading grin. A minute, overly sweet smile spread across the white alicorn’s face as she lit her horn. Expecting a piece of cake to appear next to her, Discord frowned when he didn’t see anything. Then a large, fully sized wedding cake collided with his antler and horn. Frosting and confection crumbled down his person, spectacularly ruining his wedding dress. Discord roared with laughter and summoned a huge table filled with cupcakes, cake slices, and full cakes for the truly brave. Quick as a snake he selected another slice and returned fire. Celestia pulled Luna in front of her and pink frosting blasted the Princess of the Night right in the muzzle.
Luna wiped the cake away with fire in her eyes. Discord blew her a raspberry. “Oh, it is ON!” she cried. Summoning her own confections, she masterfully hit her sister but her other target mirrored Celestia’s earlier move and hid behind Twilight. The purple princess gasped as cake exploded over her dress.
“Discord!” she cried angrily.
“Oopsie,” he laughed, releasing her and traipsing away as she swatted at him.
“CAKE FIGHT!” Pinkie Pie shrilled, flinging cupcakes out of nowhere, her forelegs resuming a pinwheel blowing in the wind.
Ponies screamed as tiny sweets rained down from the sky, the frosty missiles meeting many targets and ruining outfits. Mirror Pinkie Pie and Cordy joined the festivities, the Count supplying a second table of treats on the other side of the reception area to use as ammo. Laughter broke through the night as ponies gave in to the nonsense and began flinging the offered desserts. When both Rarity and Mirror Rarity experienced the unfortunate collision of cake on fabric, the two turned into ballistic creatures straight out of a nightmare.
“I WILL DESTROY YOU ALL!” Rarity bellowed, her eyes wild as she grabbed a huge cake and chucked it towards a small gathering of ponies. They shrieked and laughed as they were buried in cake and frosting.
Mirror Rarity was laughing maniacally, throwing cupcakes like ninja stars with rather alarming and foreboding speed and accuracy. Every target she aimed for met its mark dead on.
“Remind me to never ruin anything she wears!” Sunset said to Mirror Twilight as they dove behind a bush, avoiding their friend’s rampage.
Discord was having the time of his life, watching the reception turn into a total cake disaster. He and Fluttershy had relocated to a cotton candy cloud hovering just high enough not to catch any sweet projectiles. Fluttershy’s tux was soiled with several frosting splatters but Discord’s wedding dress had so much frosting on it, it looked like a very horribly made cake.
“How’s the battle going?” his wife asked, peering over the edge of the cloud.
“They’re almost out of ammo,” Discord answered, eyeing the tables. “I could restock them, of course, but I don’t want to spend all night in a dessert war.”
“Oh? I thought that would be right up your alley.”
He chuckled and pulled her close. Staring into those delightful teal eyes, he relished the beauty wrapped in his arms. Even in the darkening sky her mane glittered. He slowly ran his claw through the pink strands, the silky texture causing him to release a small purr of pleasure. Fluttershy’s gaze turned sultry, nearly stopping the draconequus’s heart.
She leaned forward until her lips met his ear. “Maybe we should go somewhere private.”
Discord’s hair and tail stood straight up as her tongue slipped against his ear’s edge. He grabbed her withers and pulled her close until their snouts were touching.
“Are you sure you don’t want to give an official goodbye?”
Pulling back, the goddess bit her lip. “Part of me wants to but another just wants to be with you.”
“Well, let’s make it easy and just announce we’re leaving from up here,” Discord said, pulling out a megaphone.
“Hold on,” Fluttershy called before he could bellow into the mouthpiece. He looked at her questioningly. “We should probably clean up first.”
“Oh, that’ll be a snap.”
She laid a hoof over his paw. Once again he stared at her curiously.
“Um, can I try something?” she asked.
Discord blinked. “Sure.”
He watched as she took to the air, her new wings beating faster and faster with each downward stroke. A sound began to fill his ears, like the soft peal of chimes. Her wings started to glimmer. The glimmer extended like a visible gale of wind that beat down upon the reception area and all the cake covered guests. Discord’s jaw dropped. Every ounce of mess encountered by the glimmering gale faded away, like somepony had taken a giant cloth and wiped it out of existence, leaving everything and everypony sparkling new. Once every hint of smushed cake and frosting was gone, Fluttershy’s wings ceased their glimmer and the goddess landed back on the cloud with a grace that left her husband in awe. The same emotion was being experienced from the ground by their guests, each having been touched by the sweet magic that Fluttershy had just performed.
“My dress!” Rarity cried, the first to come out of the surprised stupor. “It’s like new!”
“That magic was incredible!” Twilight squealed. “Fluttershy, how did you do that?”
Discord flashed both himself and his wife back to the ground.
Fluttershy hid slightly behind her mane but kept her head tall as she answered, “I don’t really know, Twilight. I just knew that I could.”
“Utter Flutter,” Mother Nature explained, a wide happy grin on her face. “It’s one of the powers you now possess as a Flutter Pony. I’m glad to see it works exactly as I intended.”
“Flutter Pony?” Rainbow Dash repeated. “What’s a Flutter Pony?”
“That’s what Fluttershy has become,” Mother Nature answered, “Albeit, an immortal one. And, before you ask, Twilight, Utter Flutter is the power to remove magical based messes. Since the supplied cakes were conjured by magical means, she was able to use Utter Flutter to remove them.”
“That’s fascinating!” Twilight cried with stars in her eyes. “Fluttershy we should-”
Discord immediately placed his paw over her mouth. “While I’m sure you want nothing more than to analyze all you can about Fluttershy’s new power, I’m afraid my wife and I are taking our leave. We’ll see you all at the trial in Canterlot.”
Fluttershy was barely able to say her own heartfelt goodbyes before Discord, in true chaotic fashion, whisked her into his arms and flashed them both away, bringing a rather abrupt end to the wedding festivities.
Author's Note
For those interested the song Discord and Fluttershy danced to is 'What are Words' by Chris Medina.
Flutter Ponies are from G1 in the My Little Pony series. I still remember when they were introduced when I was a kid (now you know how old I am, haha). I thought they were so cool! Their wings have magical properties, they live a secluded life in Flutter Valley, and sometimes help the other ponies with their problems. I thought making Fluttershy a Flutter Pony (albeit an eternal one) fit perfectly. I teased the idea of making her either an alicorn or a draconequus but I really liked the idea of a Flutter Pony because I've been tying in things from G1 throughout this story.
Please leave a review on what you think of my choice as well as the wedding scene. Also I'd love to hear if anybody else likes my romantic choice for Amity. Only one chapter left, I think, and perhaps an epilogue. This story has been a beast to finish! I'm working on the last chapter and will get it to you as soon as I can. Thank you for sticking with me!
