Discord's Patchwork Adventure

Epilogue

Previous Chapter

Discord was lounging in his armchair, a pair of round spectacles resting on the bridge of his nose as he read a copy of the latest Canterlot Chronicle; just because he was exiled didn’t mean he couldn’t keep up on pony news. A picture of Princess Twilight occupied most of the picture, the news article attached describing her visit to the School of Friendship. Discord’s gaze softened. Twenty years had passed. Twilight’s mane and tail now waved like Celestia’s, a beautiful array of space and magenta twinkles, and her physical form had grown closer to Luna’s size. Discord knew that, next time he physically saw her, she’d be as tall as Celestia.

Speaking of Celestia, she and her sister had Truly Ascended seven years after they started training; the original plan was five but Twilight needed a couple extra years of guidance. The two sisters visited Flutter Valley a few years ago, after learning the ropes of being the literal spirits of the sun and moon. They were due for a visit in about a month, something both Discord and Fluttershy were truly looking forward to.

A faint pink pop drew Discord’s attention away from the paper and he looked up at the appearance of two of his favorite ponies.

“There are my girls,” he smiled.

Fluttershy, in her eternal Flutter Pony glory, kissed her husband happily in greeting. Not even a moment later, she was swept aside so Discord’s arms could welcome home his first daughter, Rose Dust, Queen of the Flutter Ponies. Rose Dust was the spitting image of her mother with the exception of her eyes. They were just like Discord's, the sclera a lovely yellow and the iris poppy red. A cute pink feather plume stuck out on the top of her head; it was the way she indicated herself as queen.

“Hi Dad,” she greeted, kissing his cheek.

Discord’s eyes softened. “Hello, my little monstrosity. How are things in Equestria?”

“They’re good!” Rose Dust declared, sitting down on a patchwork couch. “I met Princess Twilight and made arrangements to start building a set of train tracks out this way. By the time your exile ends, Flutter Valley will be accessible to all of Equestria!”

“I’m happy to hear it, sweetheart,” he said sincerely. He paused briefly, bit his lip, and asked, “Did she… receive you well?”

Fluttershy giggled. “She and the others were very surprised but overjoyed. They want to meet the others too.”

Discord breathed a sigh of relief. They hadn’t told any of their friends about their future children before his exile. “I’m glad to hear it. Maybe on your next trip you can take the rest of the girls?”

“Twilight was very open to the idea. I know Rainbow Dash’s son, Comet Trail, would be very happy to see Rose again.”

“Mom!” Rose Dust whined, though a faint blush appeared on her cheeks.

An alarm bell went off in Discord’s head and he sat up straight. “What?! A boy? Already?”

“Dad, I’m eighteen! I’m not a child anymore. And he’s just a friend!”

“A friend?” Discord repeated. “Right.”

“He is!”

Discord looked at Fluttershy. The goddess smiled. “It’s nothing you need to be concerned about, Discord.” His shoulders began to relax. “Not yet anyway.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?” he demanded, immediately tensing up again.

“Ugh, I’m going to bed,” Rose Dust declared. “Good night, mom. Night, dad.”

“Good night, sweetheart,” Discord said, still looking at his wife. “Well?” he urged.

“Comet Trail is a Wonderbolt in training,” Fluttershy explained. “He was there when we arrived and was completely enraptured by her. He wasn’t the only one. I saw many stallions openly staring. Can you blame them? They’ve never seen a Flutter Pony before -besides me, anyway- and she really is beautiful.”

“Yes, she is,” Discord agreed, though very defensively. “And she’s still too young to be hunting down a possible suitor.”

“Discord, you promised your mother that you wouldn’t chase off any potential suitors.”

Discord growled. “Are you really going to play that card?”

Fluttershy fluttered over and kissed him. Instead of letting her retreat, he wrapped his arms around her withers and pulled her close.

“You don’t have to worry about anything developing right now,” Fluttershy assured. “I just noticed that he was the only stallion she showed any kind of interest in. I thought you’d be happy; he is the son of one of our friends.”

“Yeah, the hotheaded one.” Fluttershy giggled. Discord listened to the sound and felt contentment swirl in his breast. He nuzzled her. “I missed you.”

“I missed you too,” she said, nuzzling him back. “How were things while I was gone?”

“Oh, the usual,” Discord hummed, playing with her mane. “Morning Glory fell in the well-”

“Again?” Fluttershy said, exasperated.

“Are you seriously surprised?” Their blue and green daughter had a terrible habit of falling in due to being easily startled. “Honeysuckle, of course, took the opportunity to advise her to be more aware of her surroundings so naturally I had to break up a fight.” Those two were always butting heads. “Peach Blossom hasn’t left the library for three days, Wingsong is working on her latest composition, and Forget-Me-Not has been planning a welcome home party since the moment you left.”

“And Lily?”

“Still silent,” Discord sighed.

Their youngest daughter refused to say a word but she joined in with the others when singing her twin Wingsong’s compositions. She had a voice she was just too scared to use it. It seemed most of their daughters had inherited the shy, timid persona of their mother but there was a clever and even mischievous streak in some of them. Forget-Me-Not and Peach Blossom were very good at setting up pranks around the castle. Even Discord had been caught in their snares every now and then. It made his old chaotic heart proud.

Never would he have thought he’d father nothing but daughters when his mother had bestowed her wedding gift but it made sense, thinking about it; it would definitely increase the Flutter Pony population. However, Discord still felt Rose Dust was too young to be settling down with anypony. She was old enough to date, though, and it was high time he accepted the fact. Besides, allowing his girls to go off to Equestria with their mother would be the best way to gain experience and eventually find suitors; that was where their roots and friendships were, after all. They’d developed a wonderful life here in Flutter Valley and had the most beautiful mares on the planet. It would be wonderful to see future posterity filling the land.

Discord kissed Fluttershy’s worried brow. “Give Lily time. She’ll speak when she’s ready.”

“I know,” Fluttershy sighed. “I’m not too worried. I was a social disaster for years. I still am, in some ways.”

Discord laughed and squeezed her tight. “Nothing wrong with that.”

“I love you,” she said, looking into his eyes with nothing but joy and contentment.

Discord glanced at the bluebell clip she wore and smiled, his head filled with wonderful memories of her, their friends, and their beautiful little fillies. “I love you too, Fluttershy.” He leaned down and kissed her. “And there’s nopony else I would rather be with on this crazy patchwork adventure.”

One day they would return to Equestria. One day the pony world would visit Flutter Valley and things would change. But, for now, it was just them, their girls, and their own chaotic benevolent life- and Discord wouldn’t have it any other way.

The End

Author's Note

Well, it's taken almost 2 years but this story is finally finished. For those who are curious, Discord still goes to his dimension every now and then (to recharge on chaos) but mostly lives in Flutter Castle with his wife and girls. I've really enjoyed working on this story and implementing parts of Gen1 into the Gen4 MLP world. My Little Pony captured my heart as a kid and I'm really happy that I decided to give Gen4 a chance all these years later. A big thank you to taterforlife, Marina Stars, and GeekCat for their consistent reviews and support. This story might never have reached its ending without them. To others who left the occasional comment, thank you. And to all readers, thank you for sticking with this story to the end. I hope it was a fun ride!
