The Old Shelter

Previous Chapter

Twilight followed behind Fluttershy as they both went out endlessly into the world, into the old village of Ponyville. Many ponies chattered with one another, happy and in peace. They could all rest from the troubles that were brought forth years ago, silently. Peacefully. Did she already say that? Oh well.

Fields of pastel green greeted her violet eyes of amethyst, and she smiled down at it gently. She didn't know why, but as pastel as it was in the sun, it seemed so much darker. Oh well, everything was fine.

She looked in the corner of her eye, and saw a mare give her a scowling look. The mare whispered to a stallion, and the stallion in turn, also scowled at her with grave anger. Was that the mare? What mare? Oh well, everything was fine.

Morning skies of light blue stared down at her, and she smiled up at it; everything was fine. There was no need to feel frustrated over a mare or stallion staring at her funny, or was there? Oh, no matter. She was fine. They would learn to rest too, silently. Peacefully.

Fluttershy then randomly came to a stop, in front of a restaurant she didn't remember ever seeing around before. She didn't think she saw it yesterday either. So why was it there? Who made it?

It was coated with a beautiful, royal brown in the shimmering sunlight of the beautiful sun that Celestia had always brought forth above into the skies. Regal, fit for a princess, fit for any royal of any sort. But she did want to know why Fluttershy had brought her here.

"Uh.. Flutters--" "Well, we're finally here, you ready to head in?"

Fluttershy didn't even let her finish. How ungrateful of her. Ungrateful? Where did that come from? No, she was--.. what was Twilight going to say? Oh, no matter, everything was fine!

"What-- what do you mean, weren't we going to head to the shelter?" Asked Twilight, curious eyes of infinite galaxies glistening. Fluttershy tilted her head, her eyes looked so confused; but why would she be confused? She needed to go to the shelter. Thats right. Shelter.

"W-- What shelter, Twilight?"

Twilight tilted her head back at her, "Huh? What do you mean? Didn't you say we were going to the shelte--"

"No, I asked if you wanted to go to a restaurant with me, and you said yes." Answered Fluttershy rather fastly, not even letting her finish. How selfish of her. Selfish? Where did that come from? Oh well, no ma.. did she already say that before? Oh well, no matter.

"..N.. No I didnt, you asked for me to come help you out at the shelter." Replied Twilight. "Twilight, um.. would you please stop repeating things? It's becoming kind of.. troubling." Suddenly said Fluttershy, turning away her gaze from Fluttershy.

"Re.. Repeating things? I haven't been--" "Twilight, please don't mess with me, you've been going on and on about this restaurant for hours now." Cut off Fluttershy again, seeming a little stern this time. Twilight felt confused, what did she mean?

"I'm not messing with you, Fluttershy?.. I don't know what you mean, i.. I hardly ever heard you even speaking about this restaurant." Twilight looked down at the ground, the grass looked brighter now, the sky seemed a little darker now too.

"Twilight, I've been wanting to go here for ages now! Please don't run off now."

Twilight eyes contorted into frustration at her friends different uses of different excuses for coming to this.. restaurant. How could she be so cruel! Tormenting her own friend with her mess of a personality, such a stubborn mare! Stubbo--

"Fl-- Fluttershy, your not making any sense! You asked me to come to the shelter with you. I still have that interview--"

"What interview, Twi?"

The light purple mare couldn't take Fluttershys constant changing of words anymore, she groaned harshly, loudly enough so that anypony nearby could hear. She earned a few glares from random strangers.

"Oh great, now your making everypony stare at us! Why are you being like thi--"

"Huh? I didn't say anything."

Twilight's eye twitched, and before she could even carry out any words, she began to trot away from her friend. Her friend was irritating her today. Her friend was being annoying today. Why? Usually she was never this bad. Bad? What was Twilight talking about? She wasn't ever bad.

"Twi-- Twilight, where are you going?!"

"Away from you, you mad mare! Your excuses are driving me crazy."

"What excuses?! Twilight, come back! I can't eat without you!"

Twilight didn't listen, and began to dart off to her treehouse, she just needed peace and quiet. Peaceful rest. Peaceful rest.

Her vision began to haze, her heart was thumping at an alarming rate, beads of sweat wetly dripped down her coat from the sun's accumulation of heat. She didn't care, she needed peaceful rest. Silence. Away from that mad mare.

Ponies glared at her, whispers from them didn't cease her hearing as far as she could tell. They were talking about her. Maybe they wanted her treehouse! Yeah, maybe thats why everypony was being so damn annoying today.

She stopped harshly, dust from under her hooves rising into the air. Finally.. home?..

Home wasn't there.

Twilight started to pant, desperately letting out the anxieties that clinged to her mind. And the breathing then slowly emerged into whimpering. The whispers were gone, the glares she felt on herself were gone. But the tears weren't.

As a prolonged sob came out of her mouth, she could hear a pony in the distance coming up to her. A hoove wrapped around her, and immediately, the shy-- no, soft, sweet voice caressed her ears with calming words. "Twi, Twi! Whats the matter?.."

"*hic*.. agh.. ho.. wh.. hous.. house gone.. ponies starin.. staring at me.."

Twilight managed to weakly let out those words, as the hoove wrapped around her began to slowly rub her back. "Your house is gone?.." "Mhm.." "Its okay.. why don't we head back in, alright? I made you some cake, your favorite!"

"To.. Tonight?" Twilight looked up at the sky. What was a sky of light blue no longer existed. White specks of light greeted her above, and as did bright purple. The moon greeted her too. She didn't know why, but she felt as if the moon smiled at her for a moment.

"Wha.. what time.. *hic*.. is it? My grandfathers clock.. I don.. *hic* I don't have it, what--"

"Clock?.. Twilight, what grandfather's clock?"
