The Discussion and Revelation
Starlight was currently laying on her belly on the floor of Twilight’s room with the rest of her friends around too such as Rarity, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Applejack, and Spike all being there. Twilight decided to have a sleepover and to her shock, she and Spike were also invited, which Starlight found pretty sweet as she kinda felt like she and Spike only were really close with Twilight so this felt nice to hear.
Currently they were talking about their lives with their other friends and families.
“So Discord really went that far when apologizing?” Starlight asked curiously to Fluttershy.
“Yes. He practically sang about how sorry he was for sending us on that fake friendship quest.” Fluttershy said before giggling, “The song was terrible but I appreciated the thoughts.”
“Lucky you, he basically had to force an apology when apologizing to me.” Rainbow Dash rolls her eyes.
“Same with me.” Rarity huffed, “It’s clear who the favorite is.”
“Yes. Discord sure does have a favorite. Hehehehehe.” Spike chuckled mischievously, to which Fluttershy raised an eyebrow at and leered at Spike, “We’re just friends Spike.”
Starlight rolled her eyes at Spike’s joke, the fact he actually believed that Fluttershy and Discord were anymore than friends was ludicrous to her.
“If you really want to talk about romance Spike, we should talk about Big Mac and Sugar Belle,” Rarity smirked with a roll of her eyes before turning to Applejack, “Speaking of which, how are those two doing?”
“Doing just fine.” Applejack smiled proudly, “They’ve been doing better with communication ever since they almost broke up in Hearts and Hooves Day.”
“Sugar Belle told me about that. Why you thought that she was breaking up with Big Mac I will never know.” Pinkie Pie turned to Spike with a laugh.
“In my defense, Sugar Belle’s wording wasn’t really clear.” Spike grumbled angrily.
“I’m glad those two learned their lesson that day. Communication is key to a healthy relationship.” Twilight smiled proudly.
Starlight rolled her eyes once again, Since when was that the biggest factor in ANY relationship?
“Oh yeah, like how Cadence and Shining Armor were still able to work things out despite the whole… Chrysalis ordeal.” Spike chuckled nervously, still a bit on edge to mention it around Twilight since being abandoned by her friends was a sore subject for her.
“Yes. Like that.” Twilight smiled, “They really are an example of true love.” She said happily.
Starlight stifled a laugh, which earned the attention of everyone in the room. She widened her eyes in fear, they were not supposed to hear that.
“What’s so funny?” Twilight asked with a raised eyebrow.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to be disrespectful if that’s what you think.” Starlight apologizes profusely before explaining, “I do think Shining Armor and Cadence are a healthy relationship, they HAVE been married for this long but true love? No, can’t say that’s a fact.”
“What do you mean? Princess Cadence is the princess of love after all. I think that is a pretty fair reason to believe that they’re true love.” Spike chuckled, clearly finding this accusation hilarious.
“Yeah, but the thing is… I don’t believe in true love.” Starlight admitted with a sheepish smile.
“WHAT?!” Pinkie Pie asked incredulously before tackling Starlight who looked wide eyed in shock, “Please tell me you’re joking?! This cannot be possible! You of all ponies don’t believe in true love!” She began freaking out.
Rarity soon levitated Pinkie off of Starlight and scoffed, “Pinkie Pie, calm yourself.” before turning to Starlight and helping her up, “Starlight, why do you feel this way?”
“It’s not that I don’t believe in love in general. Love for your friends and family, I believe in, heck romantic love certainly exists and I know that.” Starlight smiled sheepishly, “I used to feel that true love was real, but then I figured it was some silly wishful thinking. After all, most romances seem to form due to physical attraction and a surge of hormones. Often times, it rarely sticks.” Starlight admits.
“But what about Shining Armor and Cadence? They got married and still are today.” Twilight asked the unicorn.
“They just have a good relationship. Doesn’t mean that they’re each others’ one and only. You could likely be interested in many ponies, you just choose the one you felt was the best, I doubt the two of them will leave each other but I wouldn’t say it’s true love.” Starlight explained in a neutral tone.
After Starlight finished speaking, Rainbow Dash rubs the back of her head sheepishly, “Well… it’s kinda hard to argue with that.”
Applejack glares at the pegasus who scoffs, “What?! It is!”
Rarity however, was contemplating in thought about this and realized Starlight did have some chemistry with some of her friends she’s met and smirks before speaking, “Perhaps we could try changing your mind.” She suggested.
“How would you do that?” Starlight asked curiously.
“How about we try and set you up with some of the ponies you know. The best way to make you believe in true love is to help you find true love and really, I think you do have some potential matches.” Rarity explains with a smile.
Twilight suddenly grew nervous at this and spoke up, “Rarity, I don’t think that would be a good idea. After all, this sounds crazy.”
“Twilight, if we’re being honest, I think we’ve experienced crazier ideas than this.” Rainbow Dash chuckled before pointing at Pinkie Pie, “Just ask Pinkie Pie.”
The pink pony nodded with a bright smile at this as Twilight rolled her eyes, “Even so, I don’t think Starlight will want to take part in this.”
Starlight scoffed and shrugged, “Meh, I guess I’m cool with it.”
“WHAT?!” Twilight asked in shock.
“I mean, I still think I’m right but if you girls trying to get me dates will prove my point then fine, I’m game.” Starlight said dismissively.
“Excellent. Starlight Glimmer, you will realize true love one way or another.” Rarity said with a determined smile.
“I look forward to it.” Starlight scoffed with a smirk.
