Then soon she just noticed that there was a light up a head and decided to check it to see if it leads back to the city. The unicorn mare thought to herself as she looks upwards to see nothing but darkness. Then she just noticed a sign on the left side saying 'emergency surface elevator' in red paint. That made Gleaming Shield remembered what that golden thestral mare said about the surface and the inner Shining Armor in her soul wanted to see the surface this very second, immediately.

Gleaming shield grabs hold of the leveler and pulls it upwards and she started to go up straight towards the surface. After several minutes the elevator stops inside a dome shaped building that was a whole lot smaller than Vladimir's home. In fact it was about only big enough for 12 ponies and by the judge of six beds that was big enough for two ponies. Most likely for a thestral and it's pet. The building itself had all of the stuff for ponies to live in, from the refrigerators to the restrooms, including stuff for going outside. Then Gleaming Shield finally understands what this building is for. It's a outpost on the surface to look out anything that was unusual and to warn the city of the unusuals.

Then was a reinforce door over at the left and after finding the button that opens it, Gleaming Shield walks through and her blood runs cold. The surface was in even worse shape than the last time she saw it. There was nothing but destroyed buildings, sand covered the ground everywhere, dead trees, the sky being nothing more than black clouds that was blocking out the sun and with lighting going all over the place, tornadoes made out of blazing fire over at the far off distance, and finally skeletons of ponies everywhere either its was in a building or not. The very site of Equestria being like this was making her tear up to see her home reduce to this waste land.

Then Gleaming Shield feels her hand being grabbed before being pulled back into the outpost with the door closing behind her. The unicorn mare was now looking at the worried faces of Blossom, Vladimir, and a few thestral guards. "Are you alright?'' Blossom asked looking over the unicorn's body looking for any injuries. "Did anything fell on you?"

But Gleaming Shield was still shocked at what she just saw and only said one thing. "How?"

Both Blossom and Vladimir know what she meant and it was the brother who answered the question. "From what I heard from the last survivors to come to the city. Both Princess Luna and Daybreaker was fighting to the death on the day you were knocked out. They said that Luna was winning and Daybreaker was getting madder then before and then that overgrown fire starter shouted out with 'If l can't have Equestria then nopony will' before she unleashes a huge magical wave and this happen to the whole country."

"But they also said one other thing." Blossom added in. "They said that Princess Luna also made a spell and right after the blast they saw two magical spheres, one golden the other sliver, head straight into the air and disappears. We believe that Luna managed to make a soul spell and bounds both her soul and that of her sister's soul to the sun and moon in order to keep day and night the same as they were without the alicorn sisters.'' Then she cups Gleaming Shield's cheek with her hand. "I know you have lost everything in the war but I only wanted to make sure that you will finally see the perfect future Luna made sure that we, as a species, will survive and have a happy.
