So, from a certain point of view, Ron is doing pretty well for a "spritely" 63 year old. Regardless he will have to play the hand he's been dealt, or else die, and likely in a horrible way, regardless of how much his back hurts. Brian, for his part, has at least some youth going for him at 30. But with little more than a love and knowledge of stories to help him out, he's not in the best position he might otherwise be in.
