Chapters The quest to find the perfect gift
Creativity, passion, willpower, and joy, Twilight had read that these are the most memorable skills of an artist. Twilight tried herself in various arts before, it was supposed to be the best way to relieve some stress, except for a colt friend. Twilight never understood what the colts have to do with that.
Twilight was the opposite of an artist, she was a scientist and she really like it that way. She enjoyed the fruits of arts, paintings, sculptures, songs, lyrics, and also the art of her friend rarity, the art of clothing. She never understood why it's art when Rarity makes a dress but it's only clothing when she sees a dress on the market, she could feel the difference when she was wearing or just touching or even looking at that dress. Twilight had learned that she didn’t need to understand everything to enjoy it a long time ago, but today was a day when she needed to learn how to do art.
The situation was simple, hearths warming eve was coming up and Twilight needed a present for her parents. She was a princess now and had all the resources she needed, she could give them everything, even land if she really wanted to! But that wouldn’t do it, since the year when Flurry Heart was born Twilight knew there was only one thing her parents really wanted from her and that was more grand foals. They would never say it, but she could feel it. She couldn’t give them a grand foal, yet, but she wanted to give them something more personal, something she made herself, not with her magic, but with her very own hooves… and a little magic of course.
That’s why Twilight was now here, inside the carousel boutique, with her very good friend Rarity.
“I'm so grate full, I know you have a lot to do and it’s a very busy time for you.” said Twilight. She was very eager to learn from her friend and to archive her goal, to make the perfect hearth warming eve gift.
Rarity was amused and flattered at the same time. She really liked to have Twilight around herself, ever since she came here the very first time, with this awful mane and her cute little dragon. Also, she loved her enthusiasm and her foal-like curiosity. Also, she had this exquisite tune of purple and the softest rump. Rarity had a livid past; she had dated a lot of ponies and had experience with colt- and filly friends, this had led her to the present, in which she exactly knew what she wanted. Rarity had dropped so many hints to Twilight, but that beautiful nerd brain was not able to take them.
“Alright Darling, so you want to make something for your parents? What should it be? Do you see anything good here?” Rarity asked her while walking over to her sewing machine and gently touching Twilight's chin with her silky tail. ‘come on’ she thought ‘What more should I do?’
Twilight answered her with a smile “Your work is admirable Rarity, but I really need to make this one myself. I thought about a scarf. I have found pictures of my parents during their youth when they used to share the same scarf and a mug of hot cocoa during the hearth warming eve play… and I already know that Flurry Heart has made a new mug for them in her foals garden playgroup!” it was the ugliest brown little thing a pony could imagine, but at the same time, it was heart melting and beautiful! “Pleeeease, you have to help me!” Twilight was practically bagging.
“Of course darling, I will help you to make the comfiest and fluffiest scarf for your parents.”
“But wait! It can't just be any scarf, it has to be a special one! The best scarf ever!”
Rarity enjoyed that time with Twilight, being close to her and putting her magic together with the magic of the princess. Twilight knew it was not necessary to work cheek to cheek to use your magic with another unicorn's magic, but she was way too focused on her goal to question Rarity's methods. It was a strange feeling when Rarity's horn touched hers, but it was also kinda nice. No other pony's horn, except her family, had ever touched her horn before.
In the end, after five hours, it was done, a nice big and long scarf, two-toned in a gentle grey and dark blue.
“But there is still something missing,” Twilight said after she watched the scarf and had to think for a long time.
“But it looks really good.” Answered Rarity “It's clean and orderly made, a real fine work.”
“but it's missing something special. What could it be? Maybe a special ingredient?”
“You mean a special material? We used my best and fluffiest wool. Ouh! But wait, maybe I know what we need, a rare yarn, the golden hair. That’s a magical legendary yarn, so rare, that most sewers don’t even believe that it exists!”
“And you can give me one of these?” Twilight asked with a gasp.
“No. Because I don’t have it.”
“ouh…?”
“But I know how we can get it. And it’s not far away. You should pack a few things, darling, we will spend the night somewhere else, together.” Rarity rolled the last word really slowly over her tongue and looked directly into Twilight's eyes.
Twilight looked at her and smiled “So we can get it done before Hearts Warming Eve? Great! Thank you Rarity, you are such a good friend!” She put her arm around Rarity and hugged her, not the Rarity wished for, but she took it. “I get my stuff and we meet here again!” She shouted as she left through the door.
Rarity just sighed and looked after Twilight. “You dumb thick beautiful nerd.” She said while watching the princess flank from behind.
The white unicorn got dressed in her best winter outfit, she loved these fancy boots with the warm soft lining and finely detailed décor, and it was surprising how good she was looking with this winter jacket and the big fluffy hat! The last missing detail was the scarf, but she decided not to take it, hopefully, Twilight would get that hint, so the two of them could share one scarf, like how she described her parents did.

Rarity hadn’t told Twilight where to go, it was some kind of secret and a little pleasure to her, watching Twilight working her brain on that. She was the cutest pony when she tried to figure out a riddle like that.
“Wait, I remember this place.” Said Twilight and thought a little. “This is the mountain where Celestia send us to deal with that dragon!”
“Exactly darling, we are looking for magical and powerful hair and dragons - especially the full grown - are powerful, teeth, scale… even excrement.”
“Wait, dragon feces are powerful?”
“Indeed darling, potently powerful… also they are the only ground for dragon grass to grow, the favorite food of the golden antelope.”
“Ah! And this antelope has the hair we are looking for?”
“Exactly! We just have to go up there and wait in the dragon's formal cave for one to show up.”
“What do you mean by that? Wait for one to show up?” Twilight asked confused.
“Oh! Right, the golden antelope is invisible and only becomes visible when it's eating, so there could be hundreds of them around us without us noticing, we have to wait there and wait for them to acclimate to us and show up.”
“And how long might that be?”
“I have no idea, no one does! Most ponies don’t even believe they really exist.”
“Wait, what?”
“No worries darling, I am very sure we will be successful. This is one of the few places in equestrian with dragon grass, without dangerous dragons, the best place for a golden antelope.”
Rarity gave Twilight a gentle nudge to make her move forward. Twilight took a deep breath and moved on, she trusted her friend and this gift for her parents was important. So the two ponies were walking on that path to the mountain. Rarity was glad her fashionable boots were able to keep her hooves warm and cozy. She enjoyed the sound of the snow under her boots while walking next to her beautiful purple princess.
“We should warm each other.” Rarity said with a smile.
“I don’t remember its being so cold out here.” Twilight answere, with the most cute little blush around her pony nose. “I should use a spell to protect us from the cold.”
“Ouh no darling, please don’t use your strength up for that, also I really enjoy these intimate moments with you.” As Rarity spoke she leaned in and her horn gently touched Twilights.
Twilight shuddered and blushed even more “ouh… okay.” She said in a surprising shy manner.
The way up was easy, there was not much climbing to do and the magic and wings of Twilight cleared every difficult part of the way. As a small avalanche threatened the two ponies Twilight just needed to make a protective little shell, and when there was a small abyss, she made a bridge with her magic. Rarity was more and more impressed of her princess, she allways was said to fall easily in love, but this here was way more intense than ever before!
The sun was setting as they arrived at the formal dragon cave and Rarity was right, the inside was covered in weeds! It seemed like dragon feces were really potential! Twilight was fascinated, she used her magic to grab her notes and scrabble down as much as she was able too.
“It looks like normal weed, dandelion, daisies, glee and nettles, but” Twilight paused to sniffle the air and Rarities eye were glowing because it looked to cute “the scent is different. I would really like to try it but it grows exclusively on dragon feces and that sounds horrible!”
“Don’t worry” said Rarity as she passed Twilight and used her scissor to cut off one of the daisies “a lot of yummy plants grow on a pile of excrements.” She gently put the flower into Twilights mane and smiled at her, while Twilight got the most cute blush.
Now they had to wait. Twilight used her magic to make a campfire and build up her tent.
“Oh no!” Rarity said with a gasp, nearly fainting with one hoof to her forehead and both eyes closed, doing her best act “It seems like I forgot to pack a second sleeping back. I think we have to share the large one I packed instead!” She opened one eye carefully to see how Twilight react.
Twilight Sparkle just had put her notes away as she looked over to Rarity and answered “That’s no problem, I could use my magic and-“
“No!” Rarity shouted and interrupted Twilight. There was a short break, silence, Rarity had to come up with a good explanation “Because when you use so much magic it could chase away the antelopes. Also if we share one sleeping back we can warm each other and it is way more comfy, trust me.” The last words were spoken while Rarity looked deep into Twilights eyes.
The two ponies sat together, with the warm fire from behind and the green cave in front of them. Rarity leaned to twilight and closed her eyes for a bit, she just enjoyed the situation. The fresh wind brought the scent of the weeds over to them and it mixed up with Twilights scent, the scent of a grown mare, her apple flavoured shampoo and a more simple note, the scent of old books. First it was strange, but Rarity learned to like it, a lot. After a few minutes Twilight had to yawn and stretched her wings, as she fold them back she put one around Rarity. The white unicorn had to smile, these feathers felt nice to her. She snuggled close to her with a smile, was it okay to take this a bit further? Or would she scare her off? No! It was better to play safe.
Rarity shuddered as a cold wind came up.
“Are you okay?” asked Twilight
“It’s just a bit cold in my neck.” Rarity answered
“Oh! You are right, but it seems like I have forgotten to pack it, I am so clumsy today!”
“You are right” Twilight had to think a little “no problem, we have the scarf I made for my parents, right? It’s big enough for both of us.”
She used her magic to get the scarf from her bag and put it around herself and Rarity. They snuggled up together while the light blue magic of Rarity gently pulled the scarf a bit tighter, so they have to be very close to each other. It didn’t take long and Rarity had enough confidence to go a bit further, she started to rub her horn to Twilights, very gentle and slow. The first touch seemed like an accident, but then rarity continued, the feeling of the pulsating magic inside the horn was so thrilling! Twilight gulped and moved her head a bit away, but rarity just moved with her.
“R-rarity…?” Twilight asked, her noise was a bit scared.
“It’s too much?” She asked back “Im sorry.”
“N-no. It’s just, that I never did something like that.”
“Do you want to learn about it?” Rarity asked back, looking directly in Twilights eyes.
There was a short silent moment, in which Rarity could have sworn she felt not only her heartbeat, but how the small snowflakes outside of the cave hit the ground. But then Twilight answered: “Yes.”
Rarit didn’t need more, she leaned in and put her lips on Twilights. She kissed with her deeply and could feel how she was shivering, she felt her heart beating in her chest while Twilights Wings spread wide the moment she tasted the light cherry flavour of Rarities lips. First the princess was way to excited and confused, she just let it happen, the sensation of these soft lips on hers and the taste and the scent, she needed some time before she had enough focus to put her wings around Rarity and pull her close. Ever since Twilight had become a princess she felt her power was raising and her body changing, but right now she felt weak like a foal and somehow it felt really good. She liked it, it felt so real. She knew something really special was going to happen when Rarity gently pushed her down, onto the sleep back. Rarity was ontop of her, belly to belly, as she nuzzled to Twilights chest floof.
All of a sudden Rarity looked up, with a slight blush, but the blush of Twilight was way stronger.
“Is that…?” Rarity asked, she wanted to look behind herself, but right now she just wanted to look at Twilights face. Twilight was too ashamed, she could only nod. “Wow, Darling, seems like your body is really changing. Should we stop here?”
“No, I want this and I want it with you, Rarity.”
They lips met again in another deep kiss. They didn’t notice the animals with golden hair around them, as they were sure that these two were all busy with each other they let them alone, so these two had the evening in front of the warm fire for them self.

Twilight awoke the next morning with the sun. Her mane was a mess, and she didn’t get much sleep, but she felt really good. She had to smile as she looked at Rarity, usual the fine lady was all tidy and clean, but after a night like this her mane was a mess too, but she was also smiling.
“Morning Darling.” Rarity greeted her.
Twilight was a bit shy after what happened “Ummm… m-morning.”
“Don’t make this awkward darling.” Rarity chuckled as she got up and just leaned in for a kiss. “Better now?”
“Yes, much better,” Twilight answered and kissed back.
She turned around as Rarity started to kiss her neck, to make some space for her kisses, but then she gasped and made a little jump.
“Oh no! Rarity!” Twilight shouted.
“And I thought you would like that?” Rarity asked with a chuckle.
“That’s not it, the weeds! It's all gone!”
Rarity looked over and inside the cave and Twilight was right, the weeds were eaten down, it seemed like the golden antelopes had been here and eaten all night without the two mares noticing.
“Oh no, we have missed them! How long does it take for the dragon weed to regrow?” She asked Rarity.
“Around two weeks.” She answered.
“But Hearths Warming Eve is in one week!”
“Oh darling, don’t panic.” Rarity said with a smile and passed her.
She walked a bit around in the cave with her horn glowing, until she found what she was looking for, a single golden hair!
“But that’s just one.” Twilight said, “how is that going to work?”
“It’s a special hair Twilight, all we need is a bit of magic, come here, and I help you.”
Rarity pulled twilight close, this time she put her horn directly to hers and both used their magic at the same time. Twilight's magic was so strong, so big and so extensive, its girth was overwhelming and it was hard for Rarity to take control of it, she had shown a lot of ponies how to do this, but never she had to handle something so big! She was afraid it would be too much, that she couldn’t take all of it, but Twilight was really gentle and took it slow for Rarity. Together they were able to unravel the scarf without destroying it and ravel it back together with the golden hair in it and as the sunlight fell on the scarf Twilight could see what Rarity was speaking about. In the light of the sun, the golden hair was glowing and showed a unique magical pattern. This scarf was really unique!
“It’s beautiful.” said Twilight “Thank you Rarity, for everything.”
The Sparkle’s Family House in Canterlot.
The family was together, Twilight Velvet, Night Light, Shining Armor, Twilight Sparkle, Cadance, Flurry Heart, and Rarity was there too. Twilight's parents were really happy that their daughter had found a special somepony.
“Wait, there is one more gift.” Rarity said as Shining Armor started to gather all the wrap-up paper.
“Oh? But Rarity, that would not have been necessary.” Said Velvet as she saw the small wrapped-up box.
“It’s from me and Twilight.” Rarity answered with a smile.
“It is?” Twilight asked confused, she didn’t knew about any other gift.
“Of course.” Rarity just leaned to Twilight with a smile.
“Well, I am very excited.”
Twilight Velvet and Night Light started to unwrap the last gift.
“You become grandparents again!” Rarity said and clapped her hooves together.
“What? I didn’t know… I mean… what?” Twilight was nearly stumbling over her tongue, that was a huge surprise.
“You are pregnant?” asked Night Light to Rarity.
“With Twilights foal,” said Rarity.
“I have several questions.” answered the confused father of Twilight.
“Well, dad, let me explain.” Shining Armor pulled his father and mother aside for a little talk about the special anatomy of Alicorn Princess.
“I didn’t know this was possible,” Twilight said and looked at Cadance.
Cadence answered: “It is. Should I have told you? I mean it never was a problem for me and Shining.” She looked over to her husband with a smile “In fact, we have a lot of fun.”
After that Twilight looked at Rarity and spoke to her. “Wow, this is… so you are pregnant… I am going to become a parent.”
“It’s okay darling.” Rarity said with a smile and gave Twilight a gentle nuzzle “You don’t have to take any responsibility, I know you have a lot to do as a princess, especially when you take over for Celestia and Luna. I just wanted you to know.”
“No Rarity, I was just surprised. I am really happy.” she smiled at her.
“I love you Twilight.”
“I love you too.”
They meet for another kiss and Twilight put her wings around her beloved one.
