Chapters Eric Sparkle and the Mysterious Filly
Chapter 2: School Daze - Part 2
Eric was in his bedroom crying as a result of Chancellor Neighsay’s insult and being wrongfully expelled from school. Just then, his friends came in to help cheer him up.
“Eric? You feeling okay?” Apple Bloom asked.
“No,” Eric replied as he took his head off the pillow, “I’ve been expelled from Ponyville Grade School for no good reason.”
“Me too,” Holly added.
“He wrongfully expelled me as well,” Zuni said.
“All because six of us aren’t ponies, despite our good academic records,” Marina added.
“The nerve of that stallion for expelling us!” Pincer said.
“His speciesist attitude is a real thorn in our sides,” Slapstick added.
Sweetie Belle climbed onto the bed in an attempt to cheer up her boyfriend. She hugged him warmly as he just kept crying.
“We’re here for you, Eric,” Sweetie Belle said.
“Good friends are always there for each other,” Scootaloo added.
“I appreciate you trying to cheer me up, everyone,” Eric replied.
“Sure. You would do the same for any one of us,” Nightshade said.
Meanwhile, Twilight looked at her school as the big blue EEA lock sealed the entrance. “Oh...” Twilight groaned, looking down in sadness.
“I wondered how long you’d take to get tired of pillow-fort pouting,” Starlight said, as Twilight turned around and noticed her walking up to her.
“Everypony’s already tried to cheer me up. It won’t work,” Twilight said.
Starlight made a short laugh, then replied, “I’m not gonna cheer you up. I’m gonna tell you what you did wrong.”
“What?!” Twilight asked.
“You gave up too easily,” Starlight replied, as Twilight felt beat.
“Hey, you made me a guidance counselor. That means tough love,” Starlight said.
“Neighsay was right. Storm and I failed. The school was a disaster,” Twilight said.
“So was I when you met me, but you showed me that when you know in your heart something is right, you stand up for it. You and Storm did that for me. Why not for this?” Starlight reminded her.
“We can’t go against the EEA! They’re in charge of all the schools in Equestria!” Twilight exclaimed.
“And you’re in charge of all the friendship in Equestria. Why should you let somepony else stop you from doing your job?” Starlight asked.
“But the EEA rulebook—“ Starlight suddenly cut her off, “Doesn’t matter! You can write your own rules! Because you are doing something new. Something important!” she said.
Twilight then had confident look and said, “You’re right! Why we’re doing this is way more important than how we’re doing this! And we are doing this!”
“Now, that’s the Twilight I know. How can I help?” Starlight asked.
“You already have,” Twilight said.
Back at the Castle of Friendship, Storm and the others were with Eric and his friends, until the door opened.
“Guess what? The School of Friendship is back in business!” Twilight said.
“What?!” Rainbow exclaimed.
“But why?!” Rarity asked.
“Oh, no,” Fluttershy said.
“Bad idea,” Applejack added.
“Do we still get to guess?” Pinkie asked.
“Think positive, girls,” Storm replied to the others.
“No offense, Twilight, but teaching at that school was the most boring, horrible, awful thing ever,” Rainbow Dash said.
“Uh, pretty sure she’s gonna take offense to that,” Applejack said.
“No, Rainbow Dash is right. Storm and I owe you all an apology. We were so focused on doing things the EEA way, we didn’t listen to any of you. I’m sorry. I promise, this time, we’ll run the school the way friends should; together, but with a few regular school standards, and some of our personal traits,” Twilight said.
“I’m sorry too, for it was hard for me to disagree with Twilight. I tried to find balance,” Storm added.
“So... we’d be allowed to teach however we want to?” Rarity asked.
“No more scary pop quizzes?” Fluttershy added.
“Confetti cannons for all creatures?!” Pinkie Pie asked.
“Whatever you need to teach the Elements of Harmony, but with some editions on the curriculum,” Twilight said.
“Yippeeeee!” Pinkie Pie exclaimed, as her party cannons fired confetti.
“Well, in that case, we’re behind you one hundred percent, Twilight,” Applejack replied.
Spike cleared his throat as the Mane 7 looked back at Spike, “Just two small problems. The school is still unaccredited...” Twilight’s eye twitched after looking back at Spike, “...and we don’t have any students.”
“I’ll take care of the first part if you six can round up our class,” Twilight said.
“Totally! Uh... how?” Rainbow Dash asked.
Applejack then thought for a moment, “Roundin’ up the pony students ain’t gonna be an issue, but...”
“The creatures from the other kingdoms seemed pretty upset with us,” Fluttershy finished for Applejack.
“Pfft! Nonsense! I’m certain we can win them over with our charm and style!” Rarity replied.
Soon enough, at the castle in Canterlot, the leaders, Twilight and Storm were arguing over the loss of their students with Lord Emerald, Princesses Celestia and Luna.
“Where Yona?! This all pony’s fault! ” Prince Rutherford said.
“You’re pretty quick to blame them! What are you hiding, yak?!” Ember asked, until Prince Rutherford snorted.
“C-Can... Can we just focus on finding our lost students?” Thorax asked nervously.
“I agree with Thorax. Finding the students should matter more,” King Aspen added.
“Nice try! You grubs are probably hidin’ the whole lot of ‘em!” Grandpa Gruff snapped, “And who’s to say the deer aren’t hiding them either?!”
“Please, everyone! If you can just explain what happened!” Princess Celestia said.
“The students left us notes before they disappeared. When the school closed, they didn’t want to say goodbye to each other. They claim they ran away to stay together,” General Seaspray explained.
“I can’t believe it! They did learn friendship!” Twilight said as the dignitaries gave her a deadpanned look, “Sorry.”
“I still don’t understand why they ran off,” Storm said.
“The students couldn’t have done this by themselves. Some creature is hiding them! If the niece of our queen is not found soon, I promise there will be retribution!” General Seaspray said.
“Yeah? Well, my dragons will burn every kingdom until we find which of you is hiding Smolder!” Ember retorted.
“Tell it to the griffon army!” Grandpa Gruff yelled.
“Yaks fight griffons and dragons!” Prince Rutherford shouted.
“The Changeling Empire can’t afford an international incident. If any creature blames the changelings for this…”
Ember suddenly cut Thorax off, “What are you up to, shapeshifter?!”
“B-But we’re friends!” Thorax replied.
“Everyone please calm down! If we fight each other, our alliance could shatter and we’d be vulnerable to Glacio and his forces!” Storm said.
“Find the students quickly, Twilight and Storm, or I fear our world will be at war!” Princess Celestia told them. Twilight nodded, and then they all returned to Ponyville.
Meanwhile, back at the Castle of Friendship. Eric began writing a letter to Princess Celestia regarding the school closure by Chancellor Neighsay.
Dear Princess Celestia,
I am writing to inform you that Chancellor Neighsay closed down the School of Friendship. According to my daddy, the chancellor abused his power, for he was quick to close the school, even though my parents and their friends tried their hardest to follow the EEA guidelines. Since my parents and their friends are new to teaching, they found it extremely difficult to balance the guidelines with their own teaching methods. The chancellor also has negative opinions on other creatures that are clearly unjust. His insults led the dignitaries to send their students home and said students ran away to stay together, which lead their leaders to bicker and threaten to go to war with each other if their students weren’t found. One of his insults hurt my feelings and he even expelled me and five of my friends from Ponyville Grade School just for being non-ponies. If you could please inform the rest of the EEA about his actions right away, they might be able to do something about it and my parents and our friends would greatly appreciate it.
- Prince Eric Sparkle
He then put the letter in an envelope, then got on his broomstick and flew to Canterlot. There, he went to the mansion where Nightshade lived and knocked on the door. The butler, Clockwork opened the door revealing Nightshade.
“Hello, Eric,” Nightshade greeted.
“Hi, Nightshade,” Eric replied, then asked, “Can you please give this letter to Princess Celestia?”
“Of course,” Nightshade said.
It wasn’t long before Nightshade reached the castle and entered the throne room, where Princess Celestia finished reading a letter from Twilight saying that she, Storm, and their friends found the students.
“Princess Celestia, here’s a letter from Eric!” Nightshade said.
“Let’s see what it’s about,” Celestia replied as he gave it to her.
Celestia and Luna shocked to hear about what Eric wrote. She then went to the EEA headquarters to explain what Chancellor Neighsay did.
Later on, the Mane 7 and the Student Seven gathered at the entrance of the school. Before Twilight could open the door, she head a voice. “Twilight! I was so relieved to get your letter and Eric’s too!” Princess Celestia said, before Eric got off her back and hugged his parents.
“As was Queen Novo. Oh, we’re just glad you’re alright, Silverstream!” General Seaspray said.
Grandpa Gruff then approached Gallus, “Don’t expect a welcome party from me, sonny! It’s time you got home!” Gallus smacked Grandpa Gruff from tugging his ear, “I’m not leaving.”
“Whaaaat?!” Grandpa Gruff asked, until he wheezed.
“None of us are. Sorry, Thorax,” Ocellus said.
“Yak not understand. This pony joke?” Prince Rutherford asked.
“No. We’re going back to school,” Smolder said.
“How? You can’t even get inside!” Ember said. Twilight then walked over to the gate, then she and Storm the lock and chains from the entrance. “School is back in session!” Twilight said, and the students cheered, until a magic portal started warbling, and Chancellor Neighsay appeared. Eric just stayed behind his parents.
“Who dared remove my seal?” Chancellor Neighsay asked, touching the pieces.
“We did, Chancellor Neighsay! And we respectfully ask you to step aside, or classes will start late,” Twilight said, with Storm nodding in agreement.
“Classes won’t start at all! The EEA has spoken, and none shall pass!” Chancellor Neighsay said.
“Yak pass if yak say! Hmph!” Yona replied.
“This is for the greater good. The school was disorganized, the teachers unqualified! And those dangerous and unpredictable “students” put ponies’ lives in danger!” Chancellor Neighsay said.
“Only because we’re new at teaching and were underprepared!” Storm replied.
Prince Rutherford growled, until Ember growled back, “I’ll show you unpredictable!”
Grandpa Gruff, Ember, Prince Rutherford, General Seaspray, and Thorax started shouting, until Princess Celestia stood up to them, “Hold on, please! I’m sure Princess Twilight Sparkle has a good explanation for all of this.”
“I do! It’s true that my School of Friendship is EEA-unaccredited,” Twilight said.
“Then it is not a school!” Chancellor Neighsay retorted.
“It’s not an EEA school. It’s a friendship school with its own rules. I should know. I wrote the book!” Twilight replied, “These students reminded me that every friendship is special, so the way we teach it has to be just as unique. My school is going to do things differently.”
“Allowing all of these creatures to attend your school, changing the rules for them , it simply won’t work!” Chancellor Neighsay said.
“I seem to recall something about Earth ponies, unicorns, and Pegasi doing something similar, don’t you? I told the vice-chancellor about what happened, and the rest of the EEA has called your actions out of order. Neighsay, you are hereby stripped of your title and authority for abuse of power, including the wrongful expulsion of Prince Eric Sparkle and five of his friends, and your speciesist insults against our him and allies,” Princess Celestia said.
“I promise you, Neighsay. Our school will help protect Equestria,” Twilight said, as she made a confused eyebrow with a smirking smile.
“Just you wait and see. Trust me,” Storm added.
Neighsay then growled, “Or destroy it!” He then jumped back into the portal and then disappeared.
“Eric, I have a letter for you and your friends from Vice Chancellor Pearly Flare,” Princess Celestia said.
Once the princess gave him the letter, Eric opened it. He then began reading it:
Dear Prince Eric,
I was very displeased when Princess Celestia informed me that you, Slapstick, Holly, Marina, Pincer, and Zuni were wrongfully expelled from Ponyville Grade School. We at the EEA greatly apologize for you and your friends’ wrongful expulsion by Mr. Neighsay. Your academic records show nothing of long term concern to us and that you, along with your friends are actually great in school. We discussed the matter your teacher, Miss Cheerilee and resolved the issue. To amend this terrible mistake that Mr. Neighsay made, you and your friends are hereby reinstated to Ponyville Grade School.
Wishing you all the best, Vice Chancellor Pearly Flare
“At least we’’ll be back in school,” Eric said.
“We’re glad to have you back, Eric,” Sweetie Belle replied.
“Hmph. How is this school going to be any different from last time?” Grandpa Gruff asked.
“Ugh, fine! If you promise to stop singing, Smolder can stay!” Ember said.
“Wahoo!” Smolder cheered.
“Uh, if dragon stay, yak stay,” Prince Rutherford said, as Yona jumped happily.
“I know you will make the changelings proud, Ocellus,” Thorax said, as Ocellus nodded.
“Make our herd proud, son,” King Aspen said to Prince Bramble.
“You belong here. Now, can you show me those stair things you mentioned?” General Seaspray said, and Silverstream nodded with excitement.
“What? You belong at home! You think I care if you’ve made friends?” Grandpa Gruff said.
“Please, Grandpa Gruff?” Gallus asked, then gave a pleading look.
“Alright, alright! Stop doing that!” Grandpa Gruff replied.
“Guess I make a pretty good guidance counselor, huh?” Starlight asked.
“Yes! Writing the rulebook was the most fun ever! I can’t wait to start working on the new lesson plans!” Twilight said, until Applejack cleared her throat. “...with some help from my friends.”
“Well, let’s get our lessons going!” Rainbow Dash said.
Eric Sparkle and the Mysterious Filly
Chapter 3: Surf and/or Turf
One relaxing day, Twilight and Storm were sitting in their throne room looking at the Cutie Map, until they heard steps coming their way. “Mommy!” Eric said.
“We’re glowing!” The Crusaders said in unison.
Twilight giggled as she walked over to the young ones, “That’s what happens when you’re summoned by the Map.”
“Somepony needs our help?” Sweetie Belle asked excitedly.
“We’re being called by the Map?” Apple Bloom asked excitedly.
“Did I mention we’re glowing?!” Scootaloo exclaimed excitedly.
“You did, Scootaloo. Even my bandana is glowing,” Eric replied, “That’s the second time this happened.” Twilight giggled again.
“So where exactly in Equestria are we needed?” Scootaloo asked.
“Actually, where you’re going isn’t even in Equestria,” Twilight said.
“Then where is it?” Eric asked, until Twilight pointed to a projection of the land beyond Equestria.
“Wow! That’s almost... off the table!” Sweetie Belle said.
“But what’s way out there?” Apple Bloom asked, until Twilight showed them the projection of Mount Aris.
“Mount Aris, the home of the Hippogriffs! And that’s where you’re headed!” Twilight said. “Whoa...!” the young ones said in unison as they gazed at their cutie marks on the map.
At the train station, where the ponies were chatting with each other, Twilight and Storm, with Eric carrying his travel bag as he was sitting on her back, and the Crusaders were waiting for their train to Mount Aris.
“You really don’t need to come with us, Twilight and Storm. We can take care of this mission just fine on our own,” Sweetie Belle said.
“Mm-hmm,” Apple Bloom added.
“Yeah!” Scootaloo said, riding her scooter and then came to a complete stop.
“I know that. But I’m not so sure the ponies who care about you want you going off so far on your own,” Twilight said. “Besides, there’s some school business Storm and I need to take care of on Mount Aris. This permission slip is for Silverstream. It’s very important that her mother and father sign it, or else no field trips.” She showed them Silverstream’s permission slip.
“Sounds like somepony just wants a vacation,” Scootaloo whispered to Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle, as they giggled together, leaving Twilight and Storm unamused with a sly smirk.
“Okay, yes, we have been wanting to visit Mount Aris ever since the Hippogriffs moved back. But it’s purely research,” Twilight said, “So, when we get there, Silverstream’s brother is going to meet us there and take us to both of their houses.”
“Wow! They have more than one house?” Apple Bloom asked.
“I guess so. The social structure of the Hippogriffs and seaponies is a bit of a mystery,” Twilight said, until the conductor called out.
“All aboard! Last stop, the new Mount Aris Station!” Twilight and the kids got onto the train as the last remaining passengers got off or on the train before it began making its trek to Mount Aris.
During the ride, Eric sat on Twilight’s lap for comfort and read one of his books.
“I don’t know if I’d like being a Hippogriff. Part bird, part pony...” Sweetie Belle said.
“I’m happy with just my pony parts, thanks,” Scootaloo replied.
“I think hippogriffs are pretty neat,” Apple Bloom said, “I learned all about them from Applejack. The hippogriffs all once lived happily on Mount Aris. But when the Storm King invaded, they used a magic pearl to turn into seaponies and escape to the underwater safety of Seaquestria. Then, in the Battle of Canterlot, when Applejack defeated the Storm King—”
“Wait, what? She told you she defeated him? By herself?” Twilight asked cutting her off.
“Uh, maybe she didn’t say that exactly. But it makes for a better story,” Apple Bloom replied.
“Hey, Eric? What was your first experience there?” Sweetie Belle asked.
“Well... it was pretty gloomy while they lived underwater during the Storm King’s reign of terror, but the seaponies were kind enough to give us shelter, but we needed their help,” Eric said.
“I know. You were scared about losing everything you love,” Scootaloo said.
Eric nodded, before Twilight placed her hoof onto him, “But Tempest Shadow helped him before the Storm King was defeated, and we’re still grateful. He was also brave for holding him off for us.”
“Really? You fought the Storm King by yourself?” Apple Bloom asked.
Eric nodded, “Yeah. I did.”
“Thanks to you, we’ve got help from the hippogriffs,” Twilight said.
“Thanks to you three, along with Eric’s other friends, we also had help from the changelings and the dragons,” Storm added.
Eric and the other CMC nodded, until Twilight saw how uncomfortable he felt, so she kissed him on the top of his head, and then let him sleep against her underside so that he can stay comfy for the rest of the train ride.
Later on, the Crusaders fell asleep as well, and Eric was still snuggled with Twilight’s fur as she kept her hoof and wings wrapped around him to keep him warm and snug, leaving her amused with a soft giggle about how cute Eric was sleeping. Suddenly, she heard the train whistle blowing, “Final stop, Mount Aris Station!”
Scootaloo gasped excitedly as the other two looked out the window with her, and saw Mount Aris as it was now fully restored and as the train came to a complete stop, the passengers got off as some were hippogriffs, and then the last ones were Twilight, Storm, Eric, the other Crusaders as he was riding on Twilight’s back so he wouldn’t have to walk too much.
“All right. So what kind of cutie mark-related friendship problem do you think we’re supposed to solve?” Sweetie Belle asked.
“I don’t know. But hippogriffs don’t have cutie marks. So it might not have anything to do with that at all,” Twilight said.
Apple Bloom then took a closer look at the hippogriff’s flanks revealing no cutie marks, “Huh. Still, the map called us, so it must be a kind of problem that only we can solve.”
“Go, Crusaders!” The fillies gave each other a high hoof.
“But how do we know exactly who we’re supposed to help?” Sweetie Belle asked.
“I don’t know, but I’m sure we’ll find out soon enough,” Eric replied.
“Ahem. Attention, please! Anygriff here have a problem?” Scootaloo said, all the hippogriffs just looked at her curiously and shook their heads, “Eh. That’s all I got.”
“Maybe if the Map could be a little more specific about our mission, like maybe... an address?” Apple Bloom asked.
“The Map doesn’t really work like that. But I’m sure you and whoever needs help will find each other,” Twilight said.
Suddenly, they heard water splashing, and they saw a seapony, “Excuse me! Mrs. Sparkle? Mister Storm Blade? Over here! Sorry I’m late. I’m Silverstream’s brother, Terramar,” he said.
“A hippogriff can have a seapony for a brother? How does that work exactly?” Apple Bloom asked.
“Shhh! It’s rude to ask a question like that!” Sweetie Belle said, until Terramar turned into a hippogriff and landed near them. He had apple greenish white fur and feathers with pale apple greenish light gray beak tip, talons and hind hooves, a moderate cyan and pale turquoise feather mane and tail, and moderate cyan eyes.
“Whoa!” Scootaloo said.
“Can I ask now?” Apple Bloom asked.
Terramar chuckled, “It is kind of strange. See, after the Storm King was defeated, the seaponies didn’t have to hide anymore. So some of them changed back to Hippogriffs and went home to Mount Aris.”
“But others got used to living under the water and stayed in Seaquestria,” Twilight said.
“And me? Well, I kind of go back and forth with this. It’s a tiny piece of the magic pearl. It was split up among our kingdoms,” Terramar said, pointing to his necklace.
Apple Bloom and Eric said, “Whoa!” as Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo both said, “Cool!”
“Good to meet you, Terramar. I’m-” Eric tried to say.
“Prince Eric Sparkle. My aunt Novo and cousin, Skystar told all of us about you,” Terramar said, cutting him off.
“Well, I’m pretty eager to see the hippogriff village. You know, to... get this form signed. And... research! So...” Twilight said, showing the permission slip. Storm went with her.
“Hey, Terramar? Does anygriff you know up there have a problem they need help with?” Apple Bloom asked.
Terramar chuckled, “On Mount Aris? No. Everygriff is pretty happy up there.” He then sighed, “It’s a great place to live.”
“Can you take us there?” Eric asked.
“Sure. Follow me,” Terramar said, leading the five to the top of Mount Aris, where the city was.
As they reached the city, the young ones saw so many hippogriffs enjoying themselves, including the little ones.
“Whoa! This looks amazing! Last time we were here, it was a ghost town!” Twilight said.
“It was rather gloomy,” Storm remarked.
“Yeah. Queen Novo thought it was important to return our village to its former glory, after the Storm King was defeated,” Terramar said, before they heard a fanfare of trumpets.
“And now, I officially open the “Glad to Be a Hippogriff” Festival!” Sky Beak said.
The hippogriffs then enjoyed the party and made a few laughs with each other. “Wow! We picked a good day to show up!” Scootaloo said.
“Not really. We do this every weekend. Hippogriffs really like being hippogriffs,” Terramar said, as the hippogriffs kept cheering.
“It’s hard for you, Huh?” Eric asked.
“Yeah, looks like it, but I still love my family,” Terramar said.
Sky Beak chuckled as he saw his son, “There’s my boy!”
“Hi, Dad!” Terramar said, hugging his father.
“Haven’t seen you in days, son. Wish you’d come around more often,” Sky Beak said.
“Oh! Dad, these are some of Silverstream’s friends from Equestria. They came up to see us!” Terramar said. Sky Beak gasped, “Princess Twilight Sparkle! Prince Storm Blade!” He then screeched like an eagle, and then the hippogriffs listened to his announcement. “Attention, everygriff! Princess Twilight Sparkle and Prince Storm Blade are here! They’re Silverstream’s teachers!”
The hippogriffs greeted her, gasping and exclaiming excitedly. “Here to take in the marvel that is Mount Aris, your Highnesses?” Sky Beak asked.
“Absolutely! And to have you sign a form for Silverstream,” Twilight said, showing him the slip. “Glad to! But first, let’s show the prince and princess some real Mount Aris hospitality!” Sky Beak asked.
“I guess... But we have someone for you to meet,” Storm replied.
“Certainly,” Sky Beak said.
Twilight then magically levitated Eric off her back and showed him to Sky Beak. “Let me guess, your son, Prince Eric Sparkle?” Sky Beak asked.
“Yes,” Twilight said.
“To the refreshment tent for a stein of salmon juice to go around!” Sky Beak said.
“Eh. Research. See you later! And good luck! I know you’ll find your mission!” Twilight said while she and Storm joined the hippogriffs with fun activities. “Oh, and take Eric with you.”
“Well, your dad’s certainly... outgoing, isn’t he?” Sweetie Belle asked, as Eric stood next to her.
“He’s a great guy. All my relatives are nice That’s kind of the problem—” Terramar said.
“Wait, stop,” Sweetie Belle said, as she heard the sound of a giant pan flute with whimsical wind blowing, and he saw a huge stream with stepping stones and a huge shaped cliff, and lots of trees.
“What’s that wonderful sound?” Sweetie Belle asked.
“Those are the Harmonizing Heights. Legend says that—” Terramar said.
“Woo-hoo! Yeah! Awesome! I love this!” Sweetie Belle exclaimed.
“Uh, is she okay?” Terramar asked.
“She’s sometimes like this. Sweetie Belle is cute when she’s like this, that’s what I love about her,” Eric replied.
“This is absolutely the best place ever! You are so lucky!” Sweetie Belle said.
“And you get to swim in the ocean! You have two great places to live!” Scootaloo added.
“How do you make up your mind which one to stay in?” Apple Bloom asked.
“I can’t. That’s the problem,” Terramar said.
“Did you say... “problem”?” Apple Bloom asked.
“You have a problem?!” Sweetie Belle asked.
“Yes!” Scootaloo said.
“They’re sometimes like this,” Eric said to Terramar as he made a surprisingly amused face.
“Woo-hoo! We discovered our mission!” Sweetie Belle said.
“All right!” Scootaloo added.
“We did it!” Apple Bloom said.
“Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo!” they cheered, before Sweetie Belle chuckled nervously.
Scootaloo cleared her throat, “Sorry. You were talking about your problem?”
“Right. Like I said, Mount Aris is one great place to live. That’s why Silverstream and my dad and some of my cousins came back here. But Seaquestria is another great place to live. That’s where my mom is,” Terramar said.
“Ohhhh. I-I didn’t know that,” Sweetie Belle said.
“Neither did I,” Eric added.
“So no matter where I am, I feel like I’m letting someone down,” Terramar said.
“No wonder you’re having such a hard time deciding,” Apple Bloom said.
“And I have to choose soon. Every other griff my age already knows where they belong. I’m still not sure,” Terramar replied.
“Maybe we can help!” Eric said.
“Yep! When in doubt, chart it out!” Scootaloo said, holding a paper chart they made.
“Now, we put down everything great about each place and everything not so great. Compare them, and... your decision is made for you!” Scootaloo said.
“Well, it’s obvious, isn’t it? Mount Aris is the best of all possible worlds. Pro: it’s beautiful. Con: too far from Equestria. I think that pretty much sums it up,” Sweetie Belle said.
“But you haven’t been to Seaquestria yet. How can you even compare them?” Terramar asked.
“Terramar’s right, Sweetie Belle. It’d be fair if we visited both places before we decide,” Apple Bloom said.
“Apple Bloom’s got a point,” Eric added.
Just then, Twilight zoomed over to them, “Hey, everypony! This festival is fantastic! Look what I won at the ring toss booth!” she said, showing them her trophy from the ring toss. “Ahem. But of course, Storm and I are really here on business. Sky Beak’s already signed the form. Now I just need your mom’s signature. Is she around?”
“Um... she’s a seapony. In Seaquestria,” Apple Bloom replied.
“That’s what Silverstream meant by “houses”!” Twilight said.
“Mm-hmm. If you’d like to meet my mom, we’re just heading down there now,” Terramar said.
“And how exactly are we gonna visit underwater?” Apple Bloom asked.
Soon enough, Terramar took them to the beach after Eric got onto Twilight’s back, but held onto her neck as they all got into the water. He was also wearing a light green swim suit with a rash guard shirt, that he had in his bag. Everyone joined claws and hooves, then Terramar lit up his pearl necklace, and transformed themselves, including Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle, and Scootaloo, into seaponies. They then went underwater.
“Whoa!” Scootaloo giggled.
“Woo-hoo! Yeah!” She giggled again, “Whoa! This must be just like flying! Woo-hoo!” She swam through seaweed as fast as Rainbow Dash.
“Where’s your mom’s house, Terramar?” Apple Bloom asked.
“Come on. It’s this way,” Terramar replied, leading the group to Seaquestria.
“This is awesome!” Scootaloo said.
“Eric? You can ride on my back if you want. In case you get lost,” Twilight said sweetly, and then Eric climbed onto her back and held onto her neck as they began swimming to Seaquestria, and he was a merman boy again while his swim suit kept him safe and warm.
As they arrived and entered the dome underneath the water and swam by a few schools of fish, they saw a few houses in Seaquestria, but one belonged to Terramar’s mother as she was setting up a dinner table and serving a few guests. She had pale light grayish olive yellow scales, pale light grayish orchid and moderate magenta mane and fins, a moderate cerulean and pale turquoise fur neck scarf, along with a blue beaded and black leather chain necklace and a seaweed neck choker around her neck, and light purple eyes. Her name was Ocean Flow.
“Hey, Mom,” Terramar said. Ocean Flow turned around and saw her son, and then they hugged each other.
“Terramar! Welcome home, baby! No excuses. This time, you’re staying for dinner,” she said.
Terramar chuckled, “Scootaloo, Sweetie Belle, Apple Bloom, Eric, this is my mom Ocean Flow. And this is—”
Ocean Flow gasped, “Princess Twilight Sparkle and Prince Storm Blade! What an honor! You know, Silverstream just raves about you two.”
“Well, she is one of our most hardworking students. In fact, I brought this form for you to sign so that she can have permission to go on field trips,” Twilight said, showing Ocean Flow her daughter’s permission slip.
“Both my children are so smart. Would you like to see their baby pictures?” Ocean Flow asked.
“Mom! ” Terramar exclaimed embarrassingly.
“That sounds adorable! I’d love to! And you know, to find out about aquatic pony early development and, uh...” Twilight said, as the Crusaders giggled, “Research.”
Ocean Flow giggled with Twilight and Storm, until she saw Eric with the other Crusaders. “I’m pretty sure you know who I am,” Eric said.
“You’re Prince Eric Sparkle! My sister and niece told me about you,” she replied, gently holding him underneath his armpits and between his sides with her finned hooves. Ocean Flow then smiled warmly, then brought him over for a hug, until Eric hugged her neck and buried himself underneath both her neck and her chest.
“It’s good to meet you, Princess Ocean Flow,” Eric said.
Ocean Flow smiled warmly and rested her head on top of his.
Eric then looked up at Ocean Flow’s necklaces while she was still holding him, “I like your necklaces. Are they real beads and natural seaweed you’re wearing?”
“Why, thank you, sweetheart. And yes, they are,” Ocean Flow said, gently stroking his hair.
“We’ll, I think he’s just the sweetest little thing,” Ocean Flow said, leaning down to give him a kiss on the forehead, and then gave him one more hug, and then she let him swim freely after breaking the hug. “Oh, well, maybe your friends would like a snack while we’re gone? Some kelp chips? Fish oil tea?”
“No thanks, Mom. I’m gonna go show them around,” Terramar said, as he and the other young ones swam with him.
“Look out!” Scootaloo said, giggling while swimming through a school of fish. “Can’t catch me!”
Sweetie Belle was not amused while Apple Bloom, Eric, and Terramar were watching, “Huh. Not much sunlight down here, is there?”
“We are inside of a sea cave, and it’s as dark as any cave on land,” Eric replied, “Terramar, how far deep can a sea pony go?”
“I reckon about a mile deep,” Terramar replied.
Scootaloo giggled, before seaponies playing bongo seashell drums, and then she danced to the rhythm, “Boom-ba-da-boom-ba-da-boom-ba-da-boom-ba-da-boom-ba-da-boom-ba-da-boom!”
Sweetie Belle was still not amused about the underwater lands, “No grass to run in and no hooves to run on it with.” She looked at her seapony tail, before seeing a big fish swimming by her, “And excuse me, but how do you keep from getting all pruney?” She then sighed as it passed by.
Scootaloo laughed while riding a sea turtle, before picking up a seashell shaped as a horn and blew in it, making bubbly sounds, “Everything sounds funny down here!”
“Okay. I’ve seen everything I need to. So, uh, why don’t we find Twilight Sparkle and Storm Blade, finish the chart, and, uh, head back up the mountain? I have some serious field twirling to do,” Sweetie Belle said, as they began swimming back to Twilight.
“Where’s she going? I want to stay and swim some more!” Scootaloo said, as she sighed disappointingly.
The group then went back to the beach, and Twilight was now holding Eric on her hoof and then dried him off with a towel inside his bag after taking off his swimsuit.
Sky Beak screeched, “Princess Twilight, you’re back! And just in time for the screeching competition.”
“Why not? Could be another trophy in my future! Be back soon!” Twilight replied.
“All right! Let’s add some positives to the Seaquestria side!” Scootaloo said.
“Uh-huh!” Apple Bloom added, drawing some notes on the chart.
“Swimming is like flying, multi-color fish, and did I mention the flying thing?!” Scootaloo said.
“You forgot the cons. Dark, wet, sea monsters...” Sweetie Belle replied with an unamused tone.
“I don’t remember any sea monsters. Apple Bloom, looks like it’s up to you,” Scootaloo said.
“Me? Well... Both places have a lot of good things about them. I can understand why it’s hard for you to decide,” Apple Bloom said to Terramar.
“I like both places too, and your parents were so nice to me,” Eric added, while putting his clothes back on after drying himself off from the sand and water, “Maybe you’re not thinking straight, but you have to be true to your heart.”
Apple Bloom (sings):
Your heart is in two places, you can only live in one
You’re torn between the hilltops and the tide
Sweetie Belle (sings):
Thank goodness that the Cutie Mark Crusaders have begun
To give you hope and help you to decide
These hills, they call to you, they say “Harmonizing Heights”
This is your home, simple and serene
The sun-dappled leaves or a mountain terrace
You can see twenty-three different shades of green
To dare to compare anywhere to there
Is unfair and just plain wrong
Colt or mare or you wear feathers, fins, or hair
This is where you belong
“Well, on the other hoof, I can think of a place that’s way more exciting and cool, not to mention more you! Come on, you know exactly where I mean!” Scootaloo said.
Scootaloo (sings):
Seaquestria’s the most, you’re supposed to be there
Underneath the sea where you can feel at home
Swimmin’ with your friends, you can spend all day here
Playin’ in the bay here, splashin’ in the foam
Sailin’ through the wavy blue
You’ll view a slew of tortoises
Forget the rest, the sea’s the best
For all intents and “porpoises”
Sweetie Belle (sings):
Build your nest here on Harmonizing Heights
Scootaloo (sings):
Live it up here in Seaquestria
Sweetie Belle (sings):
Nothing compares to Harmonizing Heights
The eagles are regal
Scootaloo (sings):
But the schools are cooler
Sweetie Belle (sings):
Their claws are so awesome
Scootaloo (sings):
With their sweet maneuvers
Sweetie Belle (sings):
Star wishes every night
Scootaloo (sings):
Starfish by eel light
Sweetie Belle (sings):
Better
Scootaloo (sings):
Wetter
Sweetie Belle (sings):
Shinier
Scootaloo (sings):
Brinier
Seaquestria!
Sweetie Belle (sings):
Harmonizing Heights!
Scootaloo (sings):
Seaquestria!
Sweetie Belle (sings):
Harmonizing Heights!
“Girls! Break it up!” Eric said.
Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo (sing):
That’s it! This is the end!
Don’t ever talk to me again!
Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo looked away from each other with their forelegs crossed and with angry faces. Apple Bloom and Eric looked and saw Terramar walking away. “Terramar, where’re you goin’?” Apple Bloom asked.
“Ugh! If you all can’t even agree amongst yourselves, how am I supposed to make up my mind?! It’s hopeless!” Terramar then flew away.
“Terramar, wait! We didn’t meant to...!” Eric said as the hippogriff flew away.
“Hmph!” Scootaloo huffed.
“Sweetie Belle said to tell you it’s your fault that Terramar ran off,” Apple Bloom said.
“Well, you tell Sweetie Belle that if it weren’t for her, our mission would’ve been over by now! And a success!” Scootaloo replied angrily.
“Scootaloo says this whole thing is your fault,” Apple Bloom said.
“Well, tell her that I’m not the one who dashed all of Terramar’s hopes and made him give up on the world! Both worlds!” Sweetie Belle replied angrily.
“Sweetie Belle says it’s your fault that Terramar ran— Oh. Wait. I already told you that, didn’t I?” Apple Bloom said.
“Uh, what’s going on?” Twilight asked with a confused look.
“Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo were arguing!” Eric said.
“So, where’s Terramar?” Storm asked.
“Uh, well... he... he kinda left. He wanted to be by himself,” Apple Bloom said.
“Which was not my fault!” Scootaloo replied.
“Mine, either!” Sweetie Belle retorted.
“Well, of course not. But why would you think that?” Twilight asked.
“Because it was our fault,” Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle said in unison. Twilight and Storm made a sad brow.
“All we had to do was help him choose which world to live in,” Scootaloo added.
“And we let him down,” Sweetie Belle finished.
“Whoever said that he had to choose?” Twilight asked.
“Well, he did,” Apple Bloom replied.
“Hmm... Maybe Terramar’s making it harder than it has to be,” Twilight said.
“Yoo-hoo! Prince and Princess! We’re having a seashell-crafting circle. Care to join us?” Ocean Flow said, emerging from the water with other seaponies.
“There you are! The flag-folding ceremony’s about to begin!” Sky Beak said.
“Thank you, really. I’ve had a great time in both places, but...” Twilight said, then whispered to the CMC, “Wow. This must be how Terramar feels all the time.”
Sky Beak and Ocean Flow saw each other eye to eye.
“Oh! Hello, Sky Beak!” Ocean Flow said.
“Ocean Flow! You’re looking well,” Sky Beak replied, as they hugged each other.
“Captain Sky Beak, Princess Ocean Flow, I’ve got bad news... about Terramar,” Eric said.
“Terramar?” Ocean Flow asked.
“What about him?” Sky Beak asked.
“Well, he’s having a hard time choosing between both worlds to live in, and well, we let him down because Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo were caught up about pros and cons about which place is better, before arguing over each other about which they liked better instead of trying to help Terramar find his place in Mount Aris,” Eric replied. “We’re really sorry.”
Eric suddenly saw the hippogriffs and the seaponies talking with each other, and it made him smile softly. “Hmm. This gives me an idea,” Sweetie Belle said.
The CMC kept looking for Terramar by using the cliffy rocks by the shoreline.
“Huh. I thought for sure he came this way,”
They immediately noticed Terramar sitting on a tree branch. Sweetie Belle gasped, “He did.”
“And I’m staying here, too! That way, I don’t have to be on land or in the water!” Terramar said.
“You just weren’t thinking straight,” Eric replied.
“He has a point,” Scootaloo said, as Eric saw her and the other two walking over. “We’re sorry. We were supposed to help you, and...”
“...we just ended up confusing you more. It’s all our fault,” Sweetie Belle finished.
“Oh, great! You’re sorry, and I’m still confused! I’m staying in my tree,” Terramar said.
“We might have somethin’ worth comin’ down for,” Apple Bloom replied.
“And we’d like to show it to you,” Eric added.
It wasn’t long before they came back to the beach, and the four friends showed Terramar what they had in mind, “We thought we’d get every creature together for a picnic on the beach,” Sweetie Belle said, and Eric nodded.
“And we mean every creature!” Scootaloo added. They all saw the seaponies and the hippogriffs having a picnic on the beach together.
“Son! There you are! Your friends told us how you’ve been feeling,” Sky Beak said.
“And we’re sorry if we ever made you think you had to choose between worlds. That wasn’t our intention, honey,” Ocean Flow added.
“Your hippogriff heritage is something to be proud of, certainly,” Sky Beak said.
“But you’re more than just where you’re from or who you live with. We love you because you’re you, no matter where you choose to be,” Ocean Flow added.
“You don’t have to decide. You can keep doing what you’ve been doing, going back and forth,” Sky Beak continued.
“And enjoying both places,” Ocean Flow finished.
Terramar laughed while hugging his parents. “Something we forgot to add that both places have, family and friends who love you,” Scootaloo said, as Apple Bloom wrote it down on the chart.
“Eric, girls? Could you come here please?” Ocean Flow asked, and then they walked over to her and the other two. “We just want to say thank you for helping our son learn to trust his instincts.”
“We just felt like that if he needed something to listen to, like your heart, it’ll be there to guide you, or ask for help from someone you trust,” Eric said.
“And that’s something we’ll never forget,” Sky Beak replied.
“Thanks for everything,” Terramar said, until he heard something weird. “Hey. Uh, are you glowing?” The Crusaders looked at their shimmering cutie marks. “Yes! We did it!” they shouted in unison.
“Congratulations! Your first map mission is a success!” Twilight replied.
“Guess that means we’re officially done here. I hope you come visit your sister in Equestria,” Sweetie Belle said.
“Yeah, come see us! You’ll love it!” Apple Bloom added.
“Who knows? You might even want to live there!” Scootaloo added, “Yeah, that was a joke.”
Eric nodded, and then he looked at Twilight and Storm.
“We’re proud of you coming along, Eric,” Storm said.
“We’re also proud that you have good intentions for others,” Twilight added.
Eric nodded and then hugged them, before he felt his mom and dad hugging him as well.

Chapter 4: The Breakup Breakdown
Author's Note
This chapter is set during the eight month timeframe that the School of Friendship was being constructed.
Chapter 4: The Breakup Breakdown
The day after Eric and his friends returned from Mt. Aris, he told Spike all about it. The young dragon was fascinated by his story.
“Not only did we complete our first Cutie Map mission, we also gained new friends in Silverstream’s brother, Terramar and their parents, Captain Sky Beak and Princess Ocean Flow,” Eric said as he finished his story.
“Glad to hear about it. I’m also glad you and your friends helped Big Mac and Sugar Belle’s date go smoothly this past Hearts and Hooves Day,” Spike replied.
A few months ago
It was Hearts and Hooves day once more, Big Mac had finished baking a pie for Sugar Belle with help from Spike and Discord. He took a whiff and said, “This smells... uh... palatable.”
“Well, pies really are Sugar Belle’s thing. But I think that makes this all the more special. It shows you’re interested in what she cares about,” Spike said.
“Eeyup!” Big Mac added.
“And he’s planning a big romantic Hearts and Hooves dinner. It was my idea to bake the invitation inside,” Spike said.
Discord pushed Spike aside and snapped his fingers, magically taking out the invitation and read it, “‘Happy Hearts and Hooves Day, Sugar Belle. Meet me in my barn at sunset for a surprise.’”
“Pretty clever, huh?” Spike asked.
“Eeyup,” Big Mac replied.
“Ugh,” Discord groaned. With another snap of his fingers, he magically put the invitation back inside the pie.
Big Mac clapped his forehooves with a grin on his face. He then placed the pie in a box and wrapped it, and put her name on it in the images of three sugarcubes and a bell.
“Awww. “Sugar Belle”. See?” Spike said, pointing to her name in picture form.
At the Castle of Friendship, Eric finished baking a chocolate cream pie he planned on giving to Sweetie Belle, with help from his dad.
“Daddy, did you ever bake any pies for Mommy on Hearts and Hooves Day when you were my age?” Eric asked.
“I have. She loved it, although she wasn’t aware of my love for her at the time,” Storm replied.
Eric gasped, “I gotta meet up with Sweetie Belle and the other Crusaders and help them decorate the barn at Sweet Apple Acres! After I put on my royal uniform of course,” he said.
Eric put the pie in a box, then wrapped it. After Eric put on his uniform, he rushed over to Sweet Apple Acres.
“Where are you off to, sweetheart?” Twilight asked.
“I’m off to Sweet Apple Acres to help my friends decorate the barn for Big Mac’s date,” Eric said.
“Nice. What’s in the box?” Twilight asked.
“A chocolate cream pie for Sweetie Belle. I baked it,” Eric said.
“Just like your dad did for me when we were around your age. I’m sure she’ll love it,” Twilight replied.
It wasn’t long before Eric reached Sweet Apple Acres. There, he also noticed that Nightshade and Slapstick were present.
“Hi, Eric,” Nightshade and Slapstick said in unison.
“Good to see you, Nightshade and Slapstick,” Eric replied.
“Hi, Eric!” Sweetie Belle said, hugging him.
“Happy Hearts and Hooves Day, Sweetie Belle,” Eric replied, returning her hug.
“Hear ye, hear ye! This special Hearts and Hooves Day meetin’ of the Cutie Mark Crusaders is now in session! First order of business, helpin’ my big brother decorate the barn for his big date with Sugar Belle tonight,” Apple Bloom announced.
“Once we’re finished, maybe we can go on a triple dinner date,” Scootaloo said.
“That’s why we’re here today,” Slapstick replied, with Nightshade nodding in agreement.
Just then, they heard knocking on the barn door.
“Huh?” Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle asked in unison.
Apple Bloom then opened the barn door and noticed a package, “Huh?” she wondered as she took it inside.
Eric gave Sweetie Belle his own package, “Is this for me?” she asked.
“Open it and you’ll find out what it is,” Eric replied.
Sweetie Belle opened the package and saw that she got the chocolate cream pie that Eric baked. She gasped and asked, “You baked me a pie?!”
“I did. My daddy helped me out,” Eric replied.
“You certainly went through a lot of trouble…for me! On Hearts and Hooves Day! Aww, thank you so much, Eric!” Sweetie Belle said, then kissed him on his face.
“Now, let’s get decorating,” Apple Bloom said.
Eric opened the other package and found a heart shaped apple pie, he gasped as he realized that this pie needed to be properly delivered. The six of them got to work on decorating the barn for Big Mac’s date.
The Crystal Mountains
Meanwhile, at the ice fortress, Glacio had summoned his best assassin, Shadow Swift to the throne room.
“Shadow Swift, you must find the traitorous unicorn, Tempest Shadow and either bring her to me or terminate her yourself. Kill anypony who hinders you,” Glacio said.
“Yes, my lord,” Shadow Swift replied, then left the throne room.
“Guard, inform General Frostbite that I request his presence, along with Commander Hot Shot and the others,” Glacio said to one of his guards.
“Right away, my lord,” the guard replied.
It wasn’t long before Frostbite entered the throne room with Hot Shot, Skywarp, Thundercracker, and the gorgons alongside him.
“You wanted to see us, my lord?” Hot Shot asked.
“Correct. I’m sending all of you to Thrace so we can forge an alliance with King Diomedes and his tribe. We need new allies,” Glacio replied.
“Consider it done, my lord,” Frostbite said, as they left the throne room.
Back in Ponyville, Eric carried the apple pie to Sugarcube Corner where Sugar Belle was chatting with Mrs. Cake.
“Hi, Sugar Belle,” Eric said.
“Hi, Eric. What’s in that box?” Sugar Belle asked.
“Oh this? Big Mac asked me to deliver this pie he baked for you,” Eric replied, opening the box.
“Thank you,” Sugar Belle said.
“No need to thank me, thank Big Mac when you see him,” Eric replied.
“Since you’re here, Eric. Can you please tell Big Mac I have news for him?” Sugar Belle said.
“Don’t mind at all. What is it?” Eric asked.
“He doesn’t need to come to my bakery anymore, because I’ll be here apprenticing with Mrs. Cake three days a week and my cousin is running it on weekends,” Sugar Belle replied.
“I’ll be sure to let Big Mac know,” Eric said.
As evening fell, the CMC, Nightshade, and Slapstick were finished decorating the barn and were headed to the cafe for their triple date. They each ordered buttered spaghetti and a veggie salad with no ranch dressing. Pip and Zuni were also on a date, along with Rumble and Marina, Pincer, Holly, Diamond Tiara, and Silver Spoon.
“We did it. Preparations for Big Mac and Sugar Belle’s date went off without a hitch,” Scootaloo said.
“It was nice of you to help both of them with their surprises, Eric,” Apple Bloom added.
“All in a days work,” Eric replied.
It wasn’t long before they started eating.
“I love you, Eric,” Sweetie Belle said.
“I love you too, Sweetie Belle,” Eric replied.
In between bites, Eric and Sweetie Belle shared a kiss. Nightshade and Apple Bloom also shared a kiss, same with Scootaloo and Slapstick.
Eric Sparkle and the Mysterious Filly
Chapter 5: Marks for Effort
Something has gone wrong. We don't seem to have an archived copy of that chapter. Eric Sparkle and the Mysterious Filly
One afternoon after school ended, Twilight looked at her pocket watch as she sighed while waiting for the photographer, “I’ve been planning this retreat for weeks, and we’re already ten minutes behind! Where is that photographer?!”
Suddenly, a voice came, and a photographer unicorn mare named ‘Crackle Cosette’ appeared rushing through the door, “...No-no-no-no-no-no-no!” She slammed the doors open. “I’m so sorry! Can you forgive me? I don’t expect you to forgive me... Forgive me?” Crackle made a starry eyed face, as Twilight groaned. Eric backed away as he squinted, recognizing her eye color.
“Of course. I’ll help you set up your—” Starlight said, until Crackle Cosette cut her off, and stood in front of Twilight.
“Princess Twilight, thanks so much for this! The Canterlot Historical Society is thrilled to document the friendship work your teachers do! Let me just pretty you all up!” She said, as the photographer picked six strands of hair from the Mane 6’s manes.
“Ow! Hey!” Rainbow Dash said, after Crackled Cosette picked a hair from her rainbow colored tail.
“Don’t want a single hair out of place, do we?” Crackled Cosette giggled, “This is for the history books! Now...” She then took six pictures of the Mane 6 and got photos of them, “Well, that’s that! Bye!”
“Waaaait! You forgot Starlight and Storm! They need a picture, too!” Pinkie Pie exclaimed, as she pointed at Starlight and Storm as they made smiles on their faces.
“’Kay,” she said looking unamused, and then took their pictures one at a time. “Now I’ll get out of your manes. I know how busy you are,” Crackled Cosette said, as she left.
When she was outside, Crackled Cosette looked at her photos and the hair strands, until she made a mischievous grin, “Now I have everything I need.”
While she was walking, a green flash appeared, revealing that she was actually Queen Chrysalis. “Yes, I know! We have been planning this for quite some time,” she said before laughing evilly, and setting up her pictures and the hair samples on six trees. “Oh, thank you, Applejack. My spell can create a copy of anypony I desire. All I need is an image and a piece of the pony.” She sniffed the hair, “Oh, and this.” She made a wood burning of her cutie mark.
“Why copies, Rarity? Because Princess Twilight and her friends control the Elements of Harmony, the most powerful weapon in all Equestria,” she said, as a wood burning of her cutie mark was made, and then trotted over to Pinkie’s tree, “Which means you…will…be…able…to…use…them…too!” She then wood burned her cutie mark.
“And serve me!” She wood burned Fluttershy’s butterfly cutie mark. “Together, we will destroy Twilight Sparkle and her meddlesome friends!” She then wood burned Rainbow Dash’s cutie mark, and then looked at Twilight’s image.
“Of course I haven’t forgotten Starlight Glimmer or Storm Blade! She stole my hive. Turned my subjects against me! So I’ll take her friends away while she watches! And then, I’ll destroy her, along with that little brat, Eric Sparkle! Glacio shall reward me for this.” She then wood burned Twilight’s cutie mark, and stood in the center, “With the Elements under my control, I’ll build a new hive of Earth ponies, unicorns, and Pegasi, and I will rule as Queen once again! Alongside Glacio as my king, of course.”
She then lit up her horn, and then started her spell, before the trees with the hairs and pictures cracked magically, and created copies of the Mane 6, but they looked pure evil.
The next couple minutes later, the Mane 8 and Eric were on their way to their camp out with Eric riding on Twilight’s back. “Hmm. At least our retreat isn’t too far behind schedule. Get ready for fun!” Twilight said.
“Are we talking fun fun, or learning pretending to be fun?” Rainbow Dash asked.
“Both! We’ve all been so busy teaching, we’ve hardly had a chance to hang out with each other. And I may have scheduled some friendship activities as well!” Twilight replied.
“Count me in! We can do friendship trust falls and pony pyramids! Oh! And hide and seek! Quick! Find me!” Pinkie Pie exclaimed as she zoomed away to hide.
“Well, I love the idea of some quiet time with my best friends,” Fluttershy said.
Pinkie Pie screamed, as Fluttershy jumped, “You found me!”
Rainbow Dash hovered next to Applejack and Rarity, as they had a wagon full of camping gear. “Rarity, why is Applejack carrying all your stuff?” she asked.
“Oh, that’s not mine. Yes, I used to overpack a tad, but now it’s just the essentials for me. I’m a simple filly,” Rarity said.
“Normally I wouldn’t lug so much gear, but did y’all know this is Starlight’s first time campin’?” Applejack asked, as they saw Starlight with an unamused type of look.
“I just never really felt the need to... “hang out” in nature,” Starlight said, as she waved her hoof to shoo the bugs away. “Home has books, tea, fewer bugs, a roof...”
“That attitude right there is why I brought the whole kit and caboodle. I’m givin’ Starlight the full Apple family campin’ experience!” Applejack said.
“Um, where are we camping?” Fluttershy asked.
“Right next to the Elements that brought us all together in the first place – the Tree of Harmony!” Twilight replied, then they continued their journey.
Somewhere in the other side of the forest, the Mean Six were unamused about their surroundings.
“Listen to your queen! We must retrieve the Elements of Harmony at once!” Queen Chrysalis commanded.
“Hunting down some lame Elements? This is the worst day ever!” Mean Pinkie Pie said, until Mean Fluttershy splatted some mud into Mean Pinkie Pie’s face.
“No. Now it’s the worst day ever!” Mean Fluttershy started laughing cruelly.
“Those Elements are mine! Along with this rock! Oh, and that twig!” Mean Rarity greedily said.
“I got all kinds o’ Elements right here under my hat. I’ll let you see ‘em for five bits,” Mean Applejack bluffed.
Mean Rainbow Dash scoffed while laying on a tree branch like she didn’t care, “Losers.”
“Why didn’t you just attack them?” Mean Twilight asked.
“Excuse me?” Queen Chrysalis asked.
“You were close enough to pull hairs from their manes. Why not just take your revenge then?” Mean Twilight asked.
Queen Chrysalis then replied, “They’ve defeated my army. I know better than to strike alone. I need—”
“Friends?” Mean Twilight asked.
“Servants! And the power of the Elements!” Queen Chrysalis replied.
Mean Twilight wasn’t amused, “Right. So where are these Elements of Harmony?” she asked.
“The location of the most powerful weapon in Equestria isn’t something made known to just anypony. I learned they were hidden somewhere in this forest,” Queen Chrysalis explained.
Mean Twilight then started walking, “Yeah, well, it is a big forest.” Queen Chrysalis then growled in frustration.
Along the way, the Mane 8, with Eric on Twilight’s back passed through Rose bushes. “Everypony, stop! And smell these roses!” Pinkie Pie exclaimed, while sniffing the flowers, “Ahhh! Oh, yeah!”
Eric smelled them too, and loved the scent, then chose to pick some out for himself and his mother, making her blush.
Twilight nervous giggle, “Right. Roses. Fun. Now, let’s try and stay on schedule.”
“Come on, Twilight. This is all part of nature,” Storm said.
Rarity looked at some strands of her mane sticking out, “Applejack, darling, anything in that wagon for mane maintenance?”
Applejack took off the strap from her wagon and then looked through her wagon. “Uh, let’s see here. Uh... all right. I got a bandana!” Applejack suggested, as she held it in her hoof. “Ugh, an entire wagon and no anti-frizz? Darling, you’re not even prepared,” Rarity said.
“I am! For campin’?” Applejack said, then looked at others catching up. “How ya and Storm doin’, Starlight?”
Starlight had her travel bags, and so did Sunset, “Whoa! Ugh. Great,” she replied flatly.
“It’s not the end of the world,” Storm said.
Fluttershy looked and saw a baby bird, “Oh, no! You and your sister fell out of your nest and got separated? That’s terrible!” She then laid out her wing to let the bird climb on, “Here. I’m sure your home isn’t too far away,” Fluttershy said as she went to return the baby bird to its sister and find the nest.
Twilight yelped after seeing Pinkie Pie swinging on a vine, “Pinkie! If we keep stopping to have fun, we’re never gonna get to the fun things I’ve got planned!”
Pinkie Pie gasped, “Good point! Last one to the Tree of Harmony is a parasprite! Whoo-hoo!” Twilight sighed.
“Mommy, I’m gonna go with Pinkie and scout ahead,” Eric said.
“Alright. Be careful,” Twilight replied.
Eric went ahead of the others, hoping to find a shortcut to the Tree of Harmony as he constantly kept alert.
Meanwhile, the Mean Six and Queen Chrysalis were wandering around the forest for their quest for the Elements of Harmony, as Mean Pinkie Pie laid on the ground, “I’m sooooo bored. Are we there yet?”
“Where yet? We don’t even know where we’re going!” Mean Twilight said.
“The quicker we search the forest, the quicker we find the Elements,” Queen Chrysalis replied.
“I know where the Elements are. This, uh, here boulder just told me. I swear,” Mean Applejack bluffed.
Suddenly, another baby bird tweeted beneath Mean Fluttershy. “You tried to fly out of the nest, but you fell and got lost?” Mean Fluttershy said.
The baby bird nodded while tweeting. Mean Fluttershy laughed cruelly, “Hope you like walking!” She laughed cruelly again while following the baby bird.
Mean Rainbow Dash yawned, “Come get me when I should care.” She then flew away.
Queen Chrysalis looked and saw Mean Fluttershy and Mean Rainbow Dash were missing, “Where... are... the others?!”
“Uh... A, uh, a bugbear in... plaid socks flew down and, uh, g-grabbed them! Then disappeared! Huh. Craziest thing I ever did see!” Mean Applejack lied again.
“Turn around. We’re going back,” Queen Chrysalis said.
“No. Keep searching. I’ll find the others. We can accomplish more if we split our resources,” Mean Twilight said.
Queen Chrysalis sighed, “Very well. You have my permission.”
Mean Twilight then flew, “”Permission”? You need us way more than we need you, your Majesty ! The others are fools. But with me to lead them, there’s no reason we can’t find the Elements and keep the power for ourselves!”
She then landed on the ground, before seeing the bushes rustling, and Pinkie Pie jumped onto her, “You’re it! Hey, how’d you get ahead of me and Eric? You’re fast.”
“Pinkie, my mommy is back there,” Eric said, “How can she be here?”
Mean Twilight grunted, “Ugh! I’m looking for Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash.”
“Aren’t they back there?” Pinkie Pie asked.
“They are?” Mean Twilight asked.
“Sure! Unless they’re already at the Tree of Harmony,” Pinkie Pie said.
“What is the Tree of Harmony?” Mean Twilight asked.
“Oh-ho-ho. This is one of your “activities”, right? Like a friendship quiz? It’s the crystal tree that holds the Elements of Harmony. Boom!” Pinkie Pie replied.
Eric squinted his eyes in suspicion as Mean Twilight kept asking questions.
Mean Twilight gasped, “Where is it?”
Pinkie Pie imitated a buzzer, “It’s at the bottom of the stairs in the ravine by the Castle of the Two Sisters. Double boom!”
“How do you know? You’ve seen it?” Mean Twilight asked.
Pinkie Pie nodded in reply, “Mm-hmm. Honestly, Twilight, these questions are super easy.”
Mean Twilight added a sinister grin while rubbing her wings together. Eric had enough, for he took out his wand and pointed it at Mean Twilight, “Everte Statum!” he said.
This caused Mean Twilight to stumble, Pinkie was shocked at what Eric had done, “Eric! Why did you attack your mom?!”
“That isn’t my mommy. This one is a fake, evil duplicate,” Eric replied, “Let’s go warn the others.”
Eric and Pinkie went to rejoin the others as Mean Twilight got back up and felt a sharp pain.
Fluttershy arrived at the nest and placed the brother bird on it, “Right where you belong.” The brother bird tweeted as a thank you while Fluttershy went to get some food. Fluttershy then realized she was lost, “Oh, dear. This isn’t where I belong.”
She then saw Mean Rainbow Dash as she thought was her Rainbow Dash, “Oh, Rainbow Dash! I’m so glad you’re here. I was lost.”
“Bummer. Later,” Mean Rainbow Dash said, flying away. Fluttershy was confused, “What just happened?”
Applejack, Rarity, Sunset, Rainbow Dash, and Starlight called out together or one at a time, “Fluttershy!”
“Oh, fantastic. First Pinkie races ahead of us, and now Fluttershy’s lost somewhere behind us. My retreat is off to a great start!” Twilight said.
“It’s not like Fluttershy to disappear like this,” Rarity said.
Applejack then came up with an idea, “We’ll split up and search for her. We can all meet back at the Tree. Starlight, take the navigation gear and—”
Starlight replied quickly, “Go with Rarity? Great! Rainbow Dash, you can go with Applejack!” She nervously chuckled.
“I suggest you all stay together, I’ll go find Fluttershy,” Storm replied.
Just then, Pinkie and Eric ran up to the others, “Girls! Storm!” she shouted.
“Stop!” Eric added.
“Pinkie, Eric, what’s wrong?” Twilight asked.
“Mommy, Pinkie and I ran into your evil duplicate!” Eric replied.
“Evil duplicate? How could this be?” Storm asked.
“I’m not sure, but we need to find out why. Whoever made an evil duplicate of my mommy could have made evil duplicates of Rarity, Pinkie, Rainbow, Applejack, and Fluttershy as well,” Eric explained.
Rarity, Rainbow Dash, and Applejack just laughed, thinking Eric was joking.
“Evil duplicates of us? Impossible. What a laugh, Eric,” Applejack said.
“Are you seeing things?” Rainbow asked.
“Eric, darling. You really shouldn’t give false alarms,” Rarity added.
“I’m serious, girls! I know what I saw!” Eric replied.
“Come on, Eric. Let’s go find Fluttershy,” Storm said, then crouched down, “Climb on.”
“Yes, Daddy,” Eric replied as he climbed on Storm’s back.
“The rest of you go ahead, we’ll catch up,” Storm said, “Hang on, sport.”
Storm and Eric went to go find Fluttershy, while the others kept heading for the Tree of Harmony.
“I suggest we stay alert, those evil duplicates could be anywhere,” Eric said.
“Are you absolutely sure?” Storm asked, galloping as fast as he could.
“Yes, Daddy. I know what I saw,” Eric replied.
The Mean 3 and Queen Chrysalis continued their journey while Mean Pinkie Pie complained, “Bored. Bored. Bored.”
Queen Chrysalis had enough of their behavior, “This is ridiculous! Where are my other minions?!”
“Probably plotting to steal my things!” Mean Rarity growled.
“They’re at a secret party up in that there tree. Run by a... squirrel named, uh, Jerome. But, uh, y-you need a password to get in,” Mean Applejack bluffed.
Queen Chrysalis growled while lifted three of her clones in her aura, “Enough!”
The three clones landed on the ground on their back while Queen Chrysalis slammed her hoof, making them look afraid, “You will go out there and find the others, you will bring them back here, and we will steal the Elements of Harmony so I can destroy Starlight’s life like she destroyed mine! Understand? ”
Mean Rarity, Mean Applejack, and Mean Pinkie Pie nodded nervously, “Uh-huh!”
Mean Applejack then whispered a lie, “The party password is “rutabaga”.” Queen Chrysalis’s eye twitched, then growled with frustration.
Mean Fluttershy started teasing the sister bird mockingly, “Why don’t you fly up to your nest? Oh, that’s right. You can’t!” She laughed cruelly.
The brother bird tweeted in confusion, until Mean Fluttershy spoke up, “Oh. Nopony asked you . I hope you all freeze this winter!” Mean Fluttershy laughed cruelly while stomping on the flowers, and then flew away.
The real Fluttershy came back with some berries and fresh earthworms for the baby birds, “Hello again, little friend. I think I may be walking in circles.”
The brother bird tweeted angrily, but got confused. Fluttershy gasped, “Oh, my! Where did you learn that kind of language?” She then asked the animals for a conference, “Um, excuse me?” The animals growling and chittering angrily, until Fluttershy whimpered while crying.
Soon enough, Storm and Eric came up to her. They gasped at Fluttershy crying.
“Fluttershy! What’s wrong?” Storm asked.
Fluttershy looked up at Storm as he and Eric comforted her, “Everycreature is mad at me!” She then continued to cry. Eric gasped, “What?! That can’t be right!”
Fluttershy kept crying while sniffling, until Mean Twilight landed in front of them both. Mean Twilight groaned, “Can we hurry this up? We’re on a…You must be Storm Blade. Queen Chrysalis mentioned you in her monologuing.”
Eric gasped in shock at the mention of the former changeling queen’s name.
“You may look like my wife, but you are her evil duplicate. Did Queen Chrysalis create you?” Storm asked angrily.
“Correct, for she also created duplicates of your friends so that she can use the Elements of Harmony, but not if we use them against her and take them for us,” Mean Twilight replied.
“The Elements of Harmony will never work for you fakers. Only those who are worthy can wield them, and you are not,” Storm retorted.
Mean Twilight just ignored him and went to find the other Mean Five. Once Fluttershy calmed down, she explained everything about the Mean 6 to the animals and they chittered in apology for falsely accusing the real Fluttershy of being mean to them. Afterwards, Eric climbed on his dad’s back and the three of them rushed to catch up with the others.
Mean Twilight then wandered off talking to herself, “Keep it together. You can do this. You need those imbeciles if your plan is gonna come together.”
Queen Chrysalis suddenly appeared and asked, “Your plan?”
Mean Twilight gasped, and then replied, “Uh, the plan. I’m just trying to do your bidding, your Majesty.”
“Grub-sitting you six is nothing like controlling my hive!” Queen Chrysalis said, “Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t just destroy you all and start over!”
“Because I know where the Elements of Harmony are. You need me,” Mean Twilight said. Queen Chrysalis then made a maniacal laughter.
Soon enough, Eric, Storm, and Fluttershy caught up with Twilight and the others.
“Fluttershy! You’re okay!” Rainbow said, trying to hug her.
“You left me alone in the woods!” Fluttershy replied while backing away.
“I would never do that,” Rainbow said.
“That’s because it was Rainbow’s evil clone that left her behind. We ran into Twilight’s evil clone found out that this was all part of a scheme devised by Queen Chrysalis so she can try to wield the Elements of Harmony,” Storm explained. Twilight and the others gasped.
“I can’t believe it! Eric was telling the truth!” Applejack said.
“And we didn’t believe him,” Rarity added.
“What are we waiting for? Let’s get to the Tree of Harmony before they do!” Rainbow replied.
The Mane 8 and Eric rushed to the Tree of Harmony so they could stop Chrysalis and the Mean 6.
In another part of the forest, Queen Chrysalis and the other Mean 5 appeared, having found Mean Applejack, “Finally! There. That’s all of you. Nopony leaves without my say-so.”
Mean Applejack was confused, “Now, wait a second. Weren’t you just—?” Queen Chrysalis zapped her magic laser at a tree, disintegrating Mean Applejack’s hat, as she gulped.
“The time for my revenge on Starlight Glimmer has come! Let’s see if you’re telling the truth about this Tree,” Queen Chrysalis said, as she let out a maniacal laughter.
It was nighttime when Twilight and Storm teleported themselves, Eric, and the others to their campsite. They hid inside their tents waiting for Chrysalis and the Mean 6. It wasn’t long before they peaked out and noticed Queen Chrysalis and the Mean Six arriving at the entrance to the Tree of Harmony.
Mean Pinkie Pie groaned at the campsite, “What’s this garbage?” Mean Applejack made up a quick lie, “Badger installation art! Ya see—”
Queen Chrysalis cut her off, “Just! Retrieve! The Elements! ”
“Once we get the power of the Elements, no creature, not even her Majesty, can tell us what to do. Just follow my lead. Got it?” The Mean 5 nodded while laughing evilly.
Just then, Storm and the others snuck behind Chrysalis, “Hello, there!” he said.
Queen Chrysalis turned her head, confused and replied, “Prince Storm Blade, Princess Twilight Sparkle, your child, and your friends! Impossible! I wasn’t expecting to find you here! You are bold ones.”
“We’re onto your scheme, Queen Chrysalis! The Elements of Harmony will never be yours!” Twilight said.
“They’ll never work for you!” Storm added.
“Let’s agree to disagree,” Queen Chrysalis replied defiantly.
The Mean Six just ignored her then saw the Tree of Harmony as they entered the cave. “Ooh! That one’s mine!” Mean Rarity said, as the Generosity Element pulsed in a blackish purple color.
Mean Rarity let out a crazed laughter, until Mean Fluttershy tripped her over on purpose. “Oops. I’d say sorry, but I’m not!” Mean Fluttershy said, as she and Mean Rarity tumbled while fighting and grunting at the same time.
“Stop it, fools!” Mean Twilight said, as the Kindness Element pulsed.
The Mean Six started goofing off around the Tree of Harmony. “We need the Elements to take out Chrysalis!” Mean Twilight gasped at Chrysalis behind her.
“How dare you! I created you!” Queen Chrysalis said, then shot her magic laser at Mean Twilight, who created a force field around her, and Mean Applejack bucked the tree as her original’s element pulsed. Mean Pinkie Pie laughed while trying to shove the tree as her original’s element pulsed.
Mean Twilight kept up the force field as the Loyalty Element pulsed. She smirked and blasted Chrysalis until the Element of Magic pulsed, sending an alert to the other elements. Just then, white tendrils grabbed the evil duplicates, as it started to make them melt. Mean Twilight spoke up her last words, “Imbeciles! You ruined everythiiiiiiiing!” When a huge flash of light appeared, the Mean Six were now colorful wooden logs.
Queen Chrysalis then learned her lesson, “Servants always fail you in the end! Just wait, Starlight. I will have my revenge!” she said.
The Mane 8 and Eric saw it all as the former changeling queen flew away.
“Told you so!” Storm called out, taunting Chrysalis.
“I guess the Tree of Harmony foiled her scheme for us,” Twilight remarked.
“Hey, sorry if I got carried away with all that campin’ stuff,” Applejack said to Starlight.
“I’m sorry, too. I should’ve just told you I’ll never like camping. Also, I’ll never like camping,” Starlight replied.
Well, if we’re all being honest, I can’t survive with just this tiny yet fashionable little saddlebag! I miss my things!” Rarity said.
“Why don’t we set up a fire and have a nice calm night together?” Starlight suggested.
“Spoken like a true camper,” Applejack said.
“Eh, don’t push it,” Starlight said, as she and Applejack chuckled together.
Later on, they had a nice fire and roasted some marshmallows for some s’mores, while Eric had his as he sat on Twilight’s lap.
“You know, if we can survive a day or night like this, I think our friendship is strong enough to handle anything the world can throw at us,” Twilight said, as they all agreed with nods. Everyone laughed as they enjoyed their campout.
Eric Sparkle and the Mysterious Filly
Chapter 7: Friendship University
One day, at the School of Friendship, Twilight and Storm were reading letters and postcards from Starswirl about his travels.
“It must be gratifying to have your idol writing to both of you about the friendship lessons he’s learning,” Rarity said.
“I’m not sure we’ll ever get used to it. Of course, if he really wants to learn about friendship, he could just come to our school,” Twilight replied.
It was then that Eric and Cozy Glow entered the office.
“Professor Sparkle? Professor Storm Blade? The mailpony just came with, uh, a few things,” Cozy Glow said, revealing some wooden crates.
“Ooh! The sewing machines I ordered for my class!” Rarity replied, then dashed over to the crates.
“These came, too. I wasn’t sure what to make of them,” Cozy Glow said.
“I beg to differ, Cozy Glow. You seemed very interested in those flyers for some reason,” Eric replied, getting into her face, “Remember, I’ve got my eyes on you.”
“These machines were costly, but I am quite certain the friendship lessons I can teach my students with them will be invaluable,” Rarity said.
Twilight and Storm gasped at seeing one of the flyers.
“Oh, don’t worry, darlings. I’ll think of something. And I didn’t use the school funds to buy these. Jasper and I made the purchase entirely with our own bits,” Rarity said.
“It’s not that. It’s this!” Twilight replied, showing her the flyer.
“‘Why waste your time at a friendship school that’s just a school? Learn everything they teach and more at Friendship University’?!” Rarity read.
Twilight, Storm, and Eric were shocked at this.
It wasn’t long before Twilight, Storm, Rarity, and Eric speed walked through the hallway, pondering about Friendship University.
“Who would open another friendship school?“ Twilight asked.
“Oh, pfft! I’m sure it’s nothing to worry about. You’re the Princess of Friendship. What could this other school possibly offer?” Rarity said.
“I’m not sure about that,” Storm replied.
The four of them were shocked as they stopped and noticed the Student 7 huddled up talking about Friendship University.
“It isn’t just another friendship school. It’s a university!” Smolder said.
“It says they teach the same lessons of competing schools in half the time. That’s twice the learning!“ Ocellus replied.
“And it’s in Las Pegasus? If Professor Rarity lets us skip her sewing class, road trip!” Gallus added.
The Student 7 chattered indistinctly as they moved on, leaving Rarity, Twilight, Storm, and Eric shocked.
“I think we need to look into this school,” Rarity said.
“Good thinking,” Storm replied.
“Las Pegasus? Can I please come with?” Eric asked.
“Of course, sweetheart and stay close to us,” Twilight replied. Eric nodded.
Once in Las Pegasus, the four of them were outside Friendship University.
“I don’t like to judge solely on appearances. But... what kind of friendship school is this?” Rarity asked.
“Only the best friendship school in the west... and maybe all of Equestria!” a stallion called Polo Play replied.
It wasn’t long before lots of ponies entered the building with Twilight, Rarity, Storm, and Eric entering from behind, trying to squeeze past them.
“There’s more ponies in here than at our whole school. Who is running this place?” Twilight asked.
“Welcome, friends! You are about to embark on a journey of amazing magnitude! One that will change your lives forever!” one stallion’s voice spoke up.
“Prepare yourselves to embrace a new path and become students of...” another stallion’s voice added.
“Friendship U!” Flim and Flam finished in unison, revealing themselves.
“Flim and Flam. Of course,” Twilight said.
“These guys just don’t know when to quit,” Storm added.
“Accredited?” Twilight asked.
“It means officially recognized or authorized,” Flam said.
“We know what it means. But who would accredit this place?” Rarity replied.
“Why, the EEA, of course,” a voice spoke up. The stallion revealed himself as Crimson Mystic.
“Professor Mystic?!” Twilight and Storm asked in unison. Eric just stayed behind Rarity.
“I’m the high secretary now, currently filling in for Vice Chancellor Pearly Flare while she is the acting chancellor,” Crimson said, “The Equestria Educational Association has taken an interest in institutions that teach friendship in a pony-first environment. Surely you didn’t think your school has a monopoly on the concept?”
“Well, they did write the book on it,” Rarity replied.
“Ah, yes. How to teach friendship to creatures who will one day use it as a weapon against us,” Crimson said.
“How could they use friendship as a weapon?!” Twilight asked.
“You tell me. It’s your book,” Crimson replied.
“Our school is supposed to teach ponies and other creatures about friendship and how to use it to defend us,” Storm retorted.
“Meantime, this university appears to be a promising option for ponies who’d prefer to stick to the EEA book on the subject,” Crimson said, giving Flam a hoof bump.
“You can’t be serious. They’re obviously up to something. It’s Flim and Flam!” Twilight retorted.
“Well, that certainly wasn’t friendly,” Flim replied, as the twins made sad faces.
“One would think the headmare and vice headstallion of a school of friendship, albeit an unaccredited one, would behave differently. Unless they were trying to undermine the competition? Hmm?” Crimson said.
Everypony else in the crowd gasped at the thought.
“I— No! What?! W-we are not!” Twilight replied.
“We’re only here for information,” Storm added.
“I did think the Prince and Princess of Friendship would be friendlier,” one mare remarked.
“Now, now, fillies and gentlecolts. Let’s show the princess just how friendly we are by signing up for some classes!” Flam said. He then gave out some sheets to several hopeful students.
“Why don’t I show you around?” Flim offered.
Twilight, Storm, Rarity, and Eric followed Flim and Crimson through the hallway.
“I’m sorry, but approval from the EEA won’t convince us that this school is what you promise,” Twilight said.
“And what would it take to convince you both?” Flim asked.
“Well, somepony whose opinion we respect, for one,” Twilight replied.
“Really? Somepony like... this?” Flim asked. He then opened a classroom door, revealing Starswirl, making Twilight, Rarity, Storm, and Eric gasp.
“Twilight? Storm?” Starswirl asked.
“Uh-oh,” Rarity said.
“Star Swirl? What are you doing here?” Twilight asked.
“Why, studying friendship at Flim and Flam’s wonderful school!” Starswirl replied.
“Oh, please. I think I know a disguise when I see one,” Rarity said, not buying it.
“Allow me, Rarity,” Eric replied, pointing his wand, “Revelio.”
“Now we know it’s really him,” Storm said, nothing that nothing happened.
“How’s it going in here?” Flam asked.
“I’d heard rumors you’ve returned, but I didn’t believe it until now. And if a pony of your stature is studying here, there really isn’t anything else I need to see,” Crimson said to Starswirl, “I, Secretary Crimson Mystic, hereby confer upon Friendship University complete and unreserved EEA accreditation!”
“I... I don’t understand. Why would you come here and not our school?” Twilight asked.
“My travels brought me to Las Pegasus. I didn’t come for the school, but Flim and Flam convinced me to try it out,” Starswirl replied.
“You can’t trust Flim and Flam! They tried to con the Apples out of their farm! They sold fake health tonic! They run a resort in Las Pegasus!” Twilight said.
“Technically, our resort is a legitimate business,” Flam pointed out.
“I spent a thousand years thinking the worst of a “bad” pony. You taught me to look for the best in him. Whatever Flim and Flam’s past may be, starting this school shows they want to change for the better,” Starswirl said.
“I wish Storm and I could believe that,” Twilight replied.
“Besides, what’s untrustworthy about opening a school of friendship? They don’t even charge for classes,” Starswirl said.
“I don’t know. But we know they’re up to something. And until we find out, I’m begging you, come to our school instead,” Twilight replied.
“I understand feeling threatened by competition, but my word, Princess. I wonder if the ill manners of the creatures at your school aren’t contagious. I think I will take my leave before I become infected,” Crimson said as he left the room.
“Twilight and Storm, I promise I’ll visit your school soon. But for now, perhaps it’s best if you return there,” Starswirl said.
Soon enough, the four of them walked through the hallway, pondering their next move.
“You don’t think they’re running an actual friendship school, do you?” Twilight asked.
“Darling, of course not. Which is why we have to investigate!” Rarity replied.
“What could Flim and Flam possibly have to gain from this?” Eric asked.
“Probably as a means of making money to fund the expansion of their resort,” Storm replied.
“But we can’t go poking around the school. Everypony’ll think we’re still just ‘threatened by the competition’” Twilight said.
“Only if we do it as ourselves,” Rarity replied.
“Good thinking, Rarity,” Storm said.
Rarity opened a closet door, then they all went inside and put on some disguises. It wasn’t long before Rarity came out wearing a pink shortsleeved shirt over a yellow long sleeve shirt and sky blue shorts, as well as a cap facing backwards. She also had her mane and tail a little messy.
“In these disguises, we could pass as students at our own school,” Rarity said.
“I don’t know, Rarity,” Twilight replied behind the door.
“Ah-ah. What did I say about using our real names?” Rarity asked.
“Sorry, “Plainity”. But I’m pretty sure this isn’t enough of a disguise,” Twilight replied as she opened the door. She wore an eyepatch and a large towel as a makeshift cloak.
“Luckily, I came prepared since my disguise is more likely to fool Flim and Flam than yours. Call me Shamrock Cones,” Storm pointed out in a Trottingham accent. He wore a dark blue trench coat over a black tuxedo shirt sleeve, with a fedora.
“Call me Burnferno the Dragon Warrior,” Eric said, wearing his Burnferno costume.
He then closed the door behind him as the stallion called Polo Play came up to them, “Hey, strangers! Are you four new here?” he asked.
“We sure are. Completely new,” Rarity said, blowing some bubblegum.
“Great! See ya in class!” Polo Play replied.
Rarity squealed excitedly that their disguises worked for the moment.
“Now, I’ve read enough Shadow Spade to know the key to going undercover is rehearsing your backstory,” Rarity said, then switched to a lower pitched voice, “I’m ‘Plainity’, and I love bland old normal stuff. No frills for me.” She then resumed her normal voice, “Okay! Your turn.”
“My name’s Eyepatch. I have an eye patch and a cloak,” Twilight replied, groaning.
“I’m Shamrock Cones, Equestria’s greatest detective,” Storm added in his best Trottingham accent.
“I’m Burnferno, the Dragon Warrior,” Eric finished.
“Perfect! Now, how do we start our investigation?” Rarity asked.
“I think we should split up. You enroll in some classes and find out what they’re actually teaching. I’ll look around and see what we can find, assuming I’m not recognized,” Twilight said.
“I think Eric and I should look around and see what we can find. Flim and Flam are likely to see through your crude disguise, honey,” Storm replied.
“Maybe you could look for a pen and some paper so we can write to Princess Celestia so she can inform Vice Chancellor Pearly Flare about this and have her shut this place down,” Eric added.
“Perhaps you’re right. In the meantime, I’ll just keep a low profile until either of you find something,” Twilight replied.
It wasn’t long before Rarity joined a class being taught by Flam.
“Welcome, newest students! Let’s dive right in, shall we? One of the most important elements of friendship is being thoughtful. True or false?” Flam said. The students chattered eagerly.
“If by “thoughtful” you mean “generous”, I’d say true,” Rarity answered.
“Correct!” Flam replied, then gave a laugh, “It was a trick question. Very impressive, Miss...?”
“Plainity,” Rarity said.
“Well, well, well, Miss Plainity, keep it up and you’ll be ready for our next level in no time!” Flam replied. The students were in awe at Rarity’s success.
“Now, let’s see if you can demonstrate for the class. What’s something generous you could do for... me right now?” Flam asked.
Rarity gave Flam a pillow and fed him some grapes from a bowl.
“Class, Plainity here is now my star pupil. If any of you want a chance at studying with Starswirl, I’d take notes on her every action,” Flam said. The students eagerly took notes.
An hour later
“You can be generous with all sorts of things. Gifts, compliments, your time,” Rarity said, answering the students’ questions. The students chattered excitedly at her helping them and eagerly took notes. Twilight, Storm, and Eric rejoined her hoping to check on her progress.
“Shamrock, did you and Burnferno find anything yet?” Rarity asked.
“Nothing, but Eyepatch found some paper and a pen so we can write a letter to Princess Celestia,” Storm replied.
“Have you found anything yet, Plainity?” Eric asked.
“I need the bits if I’m going to keep advancing here. Tuition’s free, but the worksheets sure aren’t,” Rarity said, revealing her worksheets.
“Flim and Flam are charging for these?” Twilight asked.
“Well, they have to cover expenses, and Flam insists that everything extra goes to improving the school and…” Rarity said, gasping, “This is the scam, isn’t it?”
“Let’s find out,” Twilight replied.
The four of them discreetly took a peek inside the classroom where they noticed Starswirl hoping to pay the brothers. They politely declined anything else he had to offer, then another student came up to the brothers hoping to buy a worksheet. The brothers only gave him half, causing their student to sell his shirt in desperation and they gave him the other half. Twilight, Storm, Rarity, and Eric felt sorry for that one student and everypony else in attendance as they heard everything. The four of them moved away from the door and pondered their next move.
It wasn’t long before Flim and Flam were headed to their office with a bag of bits, unaware that Twilight, Storm, Eric, and Rarity were following them. They opened the door and noticed the brothers turn the hands on the clock and flip the pictures of themselves, unlocking a secret room. The four of them followed the brothers inside.
Flam climbed a ladder and emptied the bits onto a pile, then climbed back down with a smile on his face. Flim took a paintbrush and filled in a drawn up beaker with red paint.
“Well, brother of mine, we’ve got almost all the bits we need to expand our resort. If we add another level of classes and worksheets, we’ll be there,” Flim said.
“Maybe we should add two levels, just to be safe,” Flam suggested.
The brothers looked at a scale model of their resort expansion plan, trying to decide where to place certain things.
“It’s a thing of beauty. But I was thinking. What if we added another extreme pool slide here?” Flim asked.
“Mmmm... Sure, as long as the pipes for the musical chocolate fountain go through... here,” Flam replied.
“But shouldn’t it go closer to the pudding hot tub here?” Twilight asked, pointing a hoof.
“Fair point, but… What?! ” Flim replied.
He and Flam were surprised that Twilight, Storm, and Eric entered their secret room.
“We knew your school was a scam!“ Twilight said.
“Well, well, well, if it isn’t the Princess of Friendship!” Flim replied.
“Don’t forget the Prince of Friendship! We figured you were up to something and we were right,” Storm said, dropping the accent and removing his disguise.
“You’re busted!” Eric added, having already removed his Burnferno costume.
“If it isn’t Eric Sparkle. Good to finally see you here in Las Pegasus,” Flim said.
“I would’ve preferred to meet you at your resort,” Eric replied.
“We’ll just lead your students into this secret room of bits and resort expansion plans!” Twilight said.
“Using your students’ bits to expand your resort is wrong, even if the lessons you teach are good ones. There are better ways to do so than this,” Storm added.
“Of course they’re good. We copied them from your book,” Flam replied, revealing their lesson plan.
“We just skipped every other page. All the lessons, half the time!” Flim added.
“Fine, but you have to give back the bits and stop charging for our lessons. Then you can teach them as much as you like,” Twilight said.
“Nah!” Flim and Flam replied in unison.
“Running a school is more work than we thought. Besides, we almost have everything we need,” Flim said.
The brothers headed for the door only to be blocked by Rarity, “I think not!” she replied.
“Plainity? My star pupil?” Flam asked.
“Not Plainity, but...” Rarity said, switching to her normal voice and removing her disguise, “Rarity!”
“Who?” Flim asked.
“We decided to bring somepony else here to listen to everything you just said!” Rarity replied.
It was then that Starswirl entered the room, along with Vice Chancellor Pearly Flare.
“Hey, Star Swirl. We were just about to…” Flim said, stuttering.
“Return the bits you’ve collected from your students and close your school?” Starswirl finished for him.
Flam gulped nervously, “Yeah. That,” he replied.
“I am Vice Chancellor Pearly Flare, currently the acting chancellor while Neighsay is suspended. Celestia informed me about this poor excuse for a school after she got your letter explaining everything,” Pearly Flare explained, “Flim and Flam, accreditation for this school has been revoked and by order of the EEA, this school is hereby shut down.”
It wasn’t long before Flim and Flam reluctantly gave the students their bits back.
“It seems I’ll never stop learning from your example, Twilight. It is a valuable lesson to stand up for what you know is true. I wish I had known it, too!” Starswirl said.
“Thanks for returning our bits. But how are we going to learn about friendship now?” a student asked. The students murmured in disappointment.
“Well, I can refer you to a fairly reputable establishment just outside of Ponyville. I’m quite certain the headmare and vice headstallion would consider letting you in,” Starswirl replied.
Twilight and Storm giggled, the students of the now former Friendship University cheered.
“As for you, Flim and Flam, Eric and I wrote letters to Mr. Filthy Rich and Mrs. Mint Spoon in Ponyville about the plan to expand your resort and both their families decided to give you a large sum of bits as a generous donation,” Storm said.
Soon enough, Twilight, Rarity, Storm, and Eric were back at the School of Friendship.
“…Of course, if I ever go to a school again, I’ll make sure it’s yours. In friendship, Star Swirl.” Twilight said, reading Starswirl’s latest postcard.
“I still don’t understand how Flim and Flam could have gotten a copy of your book,” Rarity replied.
“They told me that Secretary Mystic told them about this school,” Storm said.
“I think it was Cozy Glow,” Eric replied, “She must’ve given them a copy of your book.”
“She tells us that you refuse to give her tutoring when she asks you and that you keep a very close watch on her at all times,” Storm said, “Why do you do that?”
“Cozy Glow is just so shady and I suspect that she’s up to something that isn’t good, but I don’t know what,” Eric replied.
“Sweetheart, Cozy Glow is a nice little filly and you should be nice to her,” Twilight said.
“I don’t like her, mommy, and I never will!” Eric replied, then left the office in a huff.
Once back at his family’s castle, Eric was still thinking about Cozy Glow.
“What could Cozy Glow possibly have to gain from giving Flim and Flam a copy of my parents’ school lesson book?” Eric asked.
Eric Sparkle and the Mysterious Filly
Chapter 8: Summit at Trottingham
A month after Friendship University was shut down by the EEA, Eric was at home playing with his little brother, Midnight.
“Where’s Midnight?” Eric asked covering his eyes.
After waiting a few seconds, Eric pulled his hands away from his face quickly and said, "There he is!" Midnight giggled at this as Eric kept it up.
“Eric, could you please come downstairs?!” Twilight’s voice called out.
Eric picked up Midnight and went downstairs. He came down to find Twilight and Storm waiting for him.
“You wanted to see me?” Eric asked.
“Yes, Princess Celestia and Princess Luna need us for an international friendship summit in Trottingham,” Storm replied.
“We thought it would be best if you came with us, so we can teach you about politics and diplomacy firsthoof,” Twilight added.
“Why is that important?” Eric asked.
“As a member of Equestrian royalty and the future Prince of Friendship, it’ll be part of your responsibility to keep the peace one day,” Twilight replied.
“With your keen instincts, you and your friends could prove useful in foiling any attempt to sabotage the summit,” Storm added.
“Ok, I’ll be right back with them,” Eric said.
He then gave Midnight to Starlight and went to bring his friends over.
The Crystal Mountains
At the ice fortress, Blueblood entered the throne room with news for Glacio.
“You wanted to see me, Blueblood?” Glacio said.
“Yes, my lord. I have important news,” Blueblood replied.
“What news do you bring?” Glacio asked.
“There’s supposed to be an international friendship summit in Trottingham later today and every leader is expected to be present,” Blueblood replied.
“Good. You are to infiltrate the summit and attempt to persuade the Ornithians and Abyssinians, along with the Emperor of Hayburg and his forces to join our cause. Hot Shot, Skywarp, Thundercracker, and Swift Foot will join you,” Glacio said.
“As you wish, my lord,” Blueblood replied as he left the throne room.
Just then, Frostbite came in with Hydia, Reeka, Draggle, Wind Rider and Descent.
“You summoned me, my lord?” Frostbite said.
“Yes, General Frostbite,” Glacio replied, “While Blueblood, Hot Shot, Skywarp, Thundercracker, and Swift Foot infiltrate the friendship summit in Trottingham, you must go to the kingdoms of Sagittarius, Tauren, and the Scaly Isles.”
“Consider it done,“ Frostbite said.
“If I may ask, what exactly will we find in those places?” Wind Rider asked.
“Sagittarius is the kingdom of the centaurs and gargoyles, Tauren is the land of the minotaurs, and the Scaly Isles are home to the gorgons, like us three. We’re going there to make allies,” Hydia explained.
“We’re right with you, General,” Descent said.
Frostbite, Wind Rider, Descent, and the three gorgons exited the throne room to prepare for their mission.
Back in Ponyville, Eric and most of his friends were gathered at the train station alongside Twilight and Storm. They had bought their tickets and were waiting for the train to Trottingham. Soon enough, the train came and the conductor called out, “All aboard! Last stop, Trottingham!”
Everyone quickly boarded the train and it left the station, now bound for Trottingham.
Hours later, the train reached Trottingham and stopped at the station. Everyone immediately disembarked and went into the city.
”Mommy, where in Trottingham is the summit being held?” Eric asked.
“At Fort Griff, where Equestria and Griffonstone made peace after nearly a decade of war, part of the treaty required that the Trotish Isles be ceded to Equestria. That’s how Trottingham became the city it is today,” Twilight explained.
“You think we’ll run into any of Pip’s relatives while we’re here?” Zuni asked.
“Maybe a small chance, since we’re mainly here for the summit,” Eric replied.
Eric, Twilight, Storm, and company made numerous attempts to call a taxi. It wasn’t long before two cabs stopped for them. Twilight, Storm, Eric, Zuni, Marina, Slapstick, and Holly entered the cab, along with Sweetie Belle, Apple Bloom, and Scootaloo.
“Where to?” the cab pony asked.
“Fort Griff. We’re needed at the international friendship summit there,” Twilight said.
“Princess Twilight Sparkle, Princes Storm Blade and Eric Sparkle, welcome to Trottingham,” the cab pony replied.
“Good to be here, now let’s roll,” Storm said.
As the cab was headed for Fort Griff, the cab pony pointed out the various sights of Trottingham, “If you look to your right, you’ll see the Trottingham Eye. On your right, you’ll find the Big Bale clock tower.”
Soon enough, everyone reached Fort Griff and exited the cab. Storm paid the cab pony with gems. Once the cabs left, the Sparkle family and company entered the main building of he fort where they noticed all the leaders of various nations were gathered. Alongside Princesses Celestia, Luna, and Cadance was Nightshade.
“Hi, Eric!” Cadance said.
“Hi, Aunt Cadance!” Eric greeted, hugging her.
“Hello, Eric!” Nightshade said.
“Hi, Nightshade,” Eric replied.
Just then, Apple Bloom and Nightshade ran over to one another and shared a hug and kiss.
“Good to see you again, Bloomy,” Nightshade said.
“Same here, Shady. Prince Storm insisted our sisters bring us so we can help Eric keep the summit going smoothly,” Apple Bloom replied.
Scootaloo and Slapstick also ran over to one another and shared a hug and kiss.
“Hi, Eric,” Thorax said.
“Hi, Thorax,” Eric greeted, “Good to see you again, Ember.”
“Good to see you too, Eric. It’s a shame Spike didn’t come,” Ember said.
“He stayed back home with Starlight to help watch my little brother, Midnight,” Eric replied.
“It’s nice to know that you’re a big brother,” Thorax said.
Eric and the others were also greeted by Prince Rutherford, King Aspen, Queen Novo, and Princess Skystar. Alongside them were General Seaspray and Captain Blackthorn, even Marina’s older brother, Riptide was present.
“Good to see you again, Queen Novo. You too, Princess Skystar,” Eric said.
“Hi, Eric,” Queen Novo replied, as she and Skystar gave him a group hug.
“What brings you here, big bro?” Marina asked.
“I’m accompanying Skystar. I’ve been madly in love with her since before we moved to Equestria and we hit it off during the Friendship Festival,” Riptide replied.
Eric, Twilight, Storm, and the others were mingling with Princesses Celestia, Luna, and Cadance, as well as Prince Rutherford, King Thorax, Dragon Lord Ember, King Aspen, and Queen Novo. It was then that they met the High Steward of Griffonstone. He was an auburn griffon with dark blue eyes, and wore a black noble’s uniform with white on the edges.
“Princess Twilight and Prince Storm Blade, I am Lord Gander, the high steward of Griffonstone,” the steward said.
“It’s an honor to meet you, your excellency,” Twilight replied.
“I’m Prince Eric Sparkle, your excellency. Good to finally meet you,” Eric said.
“Good to meet you as well, Prince Eric Sparkle,” Lord Gander replied.
Meanwhile, Blueblood, Swift Foot, and their three partners managed to sneak into the fort. They took some Equestrian army uniforms out of their saddlebags and put them on.
“We need to find the Abyssinian and Ornithian royal families, along with the Emperor of Hayburg and speak with them before Princess Twilight, Prince Storm, and their friends do,” Hot Shot said.
“I suggest waiting until any of them are in their own to speak with them,” Blueblood replied.
“Good thinking. That way we can get this done without being seen by our enemies,” Hot Shot said.
Back in the meeting room, all the leaders present were gathered together. Among them were the Grand Duke and Duchess of Maretonia , the King and Queen of Prance, the Sultan of Saddle Arabia, along with Prince Haakim and his wife, Princess Amira , the Tsar and Tsarina of Marescovy, the prince of the zebras, the Queen of Abyssinia , the Ornithian royal family, and the Emperor of Hayburg.
The king was a navy blue unicorn with auburn eyes, and a brown mane and tail. He also wore a pale yellow royal uniform with a white sash, golden buttons and epaulettes. The queen was a magenta unicorn with blue eyes, a blonde mane and tail, she also wore a red and white royal gown with a blue sash. The sultan was a tan unicorn stallion with dark brown eyes, a white mane, tail and beard, and roughly the same height as Princess Luna. He also wore a cream white royal robe and turban with a blue feather on it. The tsar was a grayish white pegasus stallion with blue eyes, a black mane, tail, and beard. He also wore a blue and white robe and a red cape. The tsarina was a sky blue earth pony mare with green eyes and a red mane and tail. She also wore a blue and white royal gown and a red sash. The zebra prince wore a yellow tunic with green on the edges and a royal robe of various colors. The emperor was a golden unicorn stallion with green eyes and an auburn mane, tail, and sideburns. He also wore a red royal uniform with a white sash, black hooked triskelion lapel, and a black cape.
Eric cast the Amplifying Charm as Twilight began to make a speech, “Greetings, fellow leaders and welcome to the International Friendship Summit. Princess Celestia and Princess Luna are are honored to have you join us for this luxurious occasion, and get together as friends. But I’m afraid that these are in fact dark times for Equestria. You see, awhile back, Prince Glacio has returned to wreak havoc and has committed many dangerous threats towards our beloved nation.”
“My wife is right. Glacio plans to seize control of Equestria and plunge it into eternal winter, he and his army attacked the Crystal Empire roughly two years ago. He also conspired with Queen Chrysalis and the Storm King in a few more attempts to take over Equestria. Now, it’s very likely that he plans to make more allies to help his cause, which is the other reason why we are all here now,” Storm continued.
“With your permission and beloved support to us, my husband and I, along with our friends, our family, and all of Equestria asks that we forge an alliance to make sure that we can learn from one another and hope that with everything we learn from friendship, we can make it possible to defend ourselves from Prince Glacio’s wrath and bring another era of peace to our nation,” Twilight finished.
After a short pause, the king of Prance spoke up, “I am King Greenleaf. On behalf of myself and my wife, Queen Crystal Rose, the Kingdom of Prance is with you.”
“I am Sultan Hoofez the Third and Saddle Arabia is with you,” the sultan said.
“Maretonia is with you,” the duke added.
“I am Tsar Brayzhnev III. On behalf of myself and my wife, Tsarina Hoofelia, Kingdom of Marescovy is with you,” the tsar said.
“I am Queen Catterine and the Abyssinians are with you,” the Abyssinian queen added.
“I am Queen Ozomene, and on behalf of myself and my family, the Ornithians are with you,” the Ornithian queen added.
“I am Prince Abraxas of Farasi, and the zebras are with you,” the zebra prince added.
“On behalf of the yaks, the dragons, the changelings, the griffons, the hippogriffs, and my own deer herd, we are all with you,” King Aspen finished, with Thorax, Ember, Prince Rutherford, Queen Novo, and Lord Gander nodding in agreement.
The Emperor of Hayburg was angered by the King and Queen of Prance pledging their nation’s support to Equestria, it was then that he spoke up, “I am Emperor Goldhoof of Hayburg, and I will not allow anypony to make allies with Prance, they cannot be trusted!”
“Good to meet you, Emperor Goldhoof. I’ve heard a lot about Hayburg and all it’s wonders,” Storm said.
“With all due respect, the purpose of this summit is to bring nations together as allies and address the threat of Glacio and his forces. We can resolve whatever issues you have with the Kingdom of Prance here and now,” Twilight added.
“You may dispense with the pleasantries, Princess Twilight and Prince Storm. I know for a fact that your mentor, Princess Celestia is a friend of the Prench royal family and anypony who associates with Prench filth is no ally of the Hayburg Empire!” Emperor Goldhoof replied.
“Sorry you had to hear that, everyone. Without any further interruptions, we thank you all for your support. For those of you who haven’t met him yet, my husband and I would like to introduce you to our son, Prince Eric Sparkle,” Twilight said, addressing most of the other leaders.
The King and Queen of Prance, the Duke and Duchess of Maretonia, Sultan Hoofez, Prince Haakim, Princess Amira, Queen Catterine, Prince Abraxas, and the Ornithian royal family each greeted Eric.
“It is an honor to meet you all, and I hope to visit your kingdoms one day,” Eric said.
While everyone else was mingling with each other, Emperor Goldhoof and his guards ran into Blueblood, Hot Shot, Skywarp, Thundercracker, and Swift Foot.
“Who are you?” the emperor asked.
“I am Hot Shot, these are my partners, Skywarp, Thundercracker, Prince Blueblood, and Princess Swift Foot of Thrace,” Hot Shot replied.
“We were sent by Prince Glacio to meet up with you about joining our cause as he’s looking for allies,” Blueblood added.
“I’m all ears,” the emperor said.
“We heard you hate the Prench and are unwilling to support anyone in association with them, we can help you conquer Prance in exchange for you helping us conquer Equestria,” Hot Shot replied.
“We accept your proposal, the Hayburg Empire is at your service,” Emperor Goldhoof said.
Eric and his friends overheard them and gasped.
“We need to report this to my parents right away,” Eric said, “I don’t think we should fight these guys unless we absolutely have to.”
“Good thinking, Eric,” Nightshade replied.
They walked back towards the meeting room, but Glacio’s minions, Swift Foot, Emperor Goldhoof, and his guards heard their steps.
“Do you hear something?” Skywarp asked.
“Yes, I think we were being watched,” Thundercracker replied.
“Let’s find out who was spying on us,” Emperor Goldhoof said.
“I suspect it was Eric Sparkle and his friends,” Hot Shot replied.
They were soon behind Eric Sparkle and his friends.
“Get them!” Emperor Goldhoof ordered.
It wasn’t long before Eric and his friends ran into the meeting room. Princess Celestia was mingling with King Greenleaf and Queen Crystal Rose.
“Princess Celestia! King Greenleaf! Glacio sent his minions here to form an alliance with Emperor Goldhoof and they succeeded!” Eric said.
“Zut alors! How did they know about this?” King Greenleaf asked.
“Blueblood must’ve informed Glacio about the summit,” Celestia replied, “They must be very stealthy to bypass all the security as well.”
“Are you alright, sweetheart?” Twilight asked as she and Storm rushed over to Eric.
“I’m fine, but I think Glacio’s minions, along with Emperor Goldhoof might ruin the summit,” Eric replied.
“You want to sabotage the summit, you’ll have to go through us!” Nightshade said, facing Glacio’s minions.
“We did what we came here for, so you’re not worth our time today,” Blueblood replied, then left with Hot Shot, Skywarp, and Thundercracker.
“Mark my words, Sparkle! Equestria will fall, as Prance must!” Emperor Goldhoof added, then left with his guards.
Swift Foot stayed behind for a bit, Eric took notice of this and cautiously approached her, “Who are you?” he asked, puzzled.
“I’m Swift Foot, Princess of Thrace,” the Thracian princess replied.
“I’m Prince Eric Sparkle. Good to meet you, Princess Swift Foot,” Eric greeted.
“I’ve heard of you. My father is King Diomedes and he, my sisters, my brother, along with the rest of the Thracians are in an alliance with Prince Glacio,” Swift Foot said.
“Out of curiosity, why didn’t you try to attack me and my friends?” Eric asked.
“I mean no harm and I’m miserable back home in Thrace. My sisters and brother constantly pick on me and my father is abusive. Because of that, I seek asylum,” Swift Foot replied.
“I know how you feel, Swift Foot. Before I came to Equestria, I was abused by Mr. Horvath. He took over the orphanage I stayed at after the previous head caretakers, Ted and Lacey Marks died from a sickness called dragonpox. Those two were there for me from the start, and I became somewhat of a little brother to their sons, Jasper and Smokey. Mr. Horvath made me and the other orphans into slaves and give us beatings, I only had Jasper and Smokey to be there for me at the time,” Eric explained.
“I’m sorry to hear that. You must be so lucky to have somepony who’s nice and loving like Princess Twilight and Prince Storm as your parents,” Swift Foot said.
“Yes. They’re the best parents a boy like me could ever have. My grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins are the best as well, and I also have a baby brother named Midnight Star. Nightshade, Zuni, Marina, Holly, Slapstick, Scootaloo, Apple Bloom, and Sweetie Belle are the best friends a boy like me could ever have, and Sweetie Belle is also my girlfriend,” Eric replied, pointing to his friends. Nightshade and the others greeted the Thracian princess.
“You’re so lucky to have friends and family who love you, Eric. I wish I could have a friend,” Swift Foot said.
“Maybe we can help you with that,” Eric suggested.
“Thank you, Eric,” Swift Foot replied.
Eric and his friends reentered the meeting room and came in with Swift Foot.
“Everyone, we’d like you to meet Princess Swift Foot, formerly of Thrace. She told us that her kingdom is in an alliance with Glacio and she seeks asylum,” Eric said.
Swift Foot explained her situation and everyone present was taken aback by hearing about her misery.
“How would you like to live in Maretonia with us?” the duchess asked.
“I would be honored,” Swift Foot replied.
Soon after the summit was over, Eric, his family, and friends took a cab to the inn known as the Livid Dragon. Eric was looked up and down the alley in amazement. He read the sign which said ‘Magic Alley’ on it, this led him to think about Jasper and Smokey.
“I wish Jasper and Smokey were with us, they would love this place,” Eric said, muttering.
“You say something, sweetheart?” Twilight asked.
“I’m just thinking about how much Jasper and Smokey would love this place,” Eric replied.
“How so?” Twilight asked.
“If they were here, Jasper and Smokey would say this place looks familiar to them, as it would remind them of somewhere called Diagon Alley in a city known as London in my former home realm. Point of fact, their dad, Ted bought this wand in a shop at Diagon Alley known as Ollivander’s when he was eleven,” Eric explained, holding his wand.
After exploring Magic Alley, Eric, his parents, and company checked into the Livid Dragon and ate in the pub section. Once finished eating, they went into a room with two queen sized beds, then went to sleep after some reading.

Chapter 9: Nightmare Trouble
Author's Note
This chapter is set a few days after the Hearth’s Warming Club episode.
Chapter 9: Nightmare Trouble
It was the night of Hearth’s Warming Eve and Eric was asleep in his bed.
Dream World
Eric was walking in the caves where he often went gem hunting with Rarity and Spike. He pointed his wand, hoping to be ready for whatever came his way. Just then, he saw what looked to be a shadow of Glacio approaching him.
“I have seen your heart, and it is mine. I have seen your dreams, Eric Sparkle and I have seen your fears,” Shadow Glacio said.
Eric backed away, whimpering as the shadow came closer to him. It was then that his parents and the other Mane 5 appeared in bat-like forms as they unfolded their wings, they made a terrifying shrieking noise and chased him. He ran as fast as he could, screaming, but Twilight soon transformed into Midnight Sparkle and they all surrounded him.
“Get away from me!” Eric screamed in fright.
Eric quickly woke up hyperventilating, screaming, and tearing up, then looked around and saw that he was still in his bed, “MOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!! ” he screamed.
It wasn’t long before Twilight entered his room and came to his bedside.
“Eric, are you alright?” Twilight asked.
“I’m not,” Eric said, sniffling.
“What’s the matter, sweetheart?” Twilight asked.
“I had a nightmare, the same one I’ve been having twice a week for the past five months since my eighth birthday,” Eric replied.
“What happened?” Storm asked his wife as he entered the room.
“Eric had that nightmare again,” Twilight replied.
“Let me guess, the one where Glacio appeared in shadow form and with both of us and our friends as vampire bat ponies and you turning into Midnight Sparkle?” Storm said.
“I’m afraid so. We need to see Princess Luna about this in the morning,” Twilight replied.
“Is it okay if I sleep with you?” Eric asked.
“Of course. You need some extra comfort right now,” Twilight said.
Twilight and Storm walked him into their room. The three of them got into the bed and fell asleep, with Eric in his mom’s hooves.
By morning, Eric had eaten breakfast and opened all his presents, yet he was still not feeling so good. Midnight, who was a year old, showed some signs of concern for his big brother.
“E-E-Ewic,” he tried to say.
“I’m still a little shaken up from last night, little bro,” Eric replied, “Wait. Did you just say my name?”
“E-Ewic,” Midnight said once more.
“Mom! Dad! Midnight said his first word!” Eric told his parents.
“He did?!” Twilight asked.
“Go on, Midnight. We’re listening,” Storm said.
“D-Dadda,” Midnight spoke up.
“Way to go, son,” Storm replied.
“M-M-Momma,” Midnight said.
“Very good, Midnight. We’re proud of you,” Twilight replied, giving him a kiss on the face.
Eric covered his eyes with his hands “Where’s Midnight?” he asked.
After a few seconds, Eric uncovered his eyes and said, “There he is!”
Midnight giggled as Eric kept playing with him. He then chased Midnight around a few times. Twilight and Storm had smiles on their faces upon seeing the two brothers bonding.
Soon enough, Twilight, Storm, and Eric went to Canterlot in order to see Princess Luna. Just then, both the princesses and Lord Emerald came before them.
“Eric’s been having the same nightmare twice a week over the past five months and we need your help,” Twilight said.
“We’re sorry to hear that,” Princess Celestia replied.
“I suspect Glacio is tormenting Eric in his dreams, since I couldn’t access them. Only he could use such powerful magic in order to keep me from helping Eric in his sleep,” Princess Luna added.
“I should have known Glacio would do something like this,” Storm said.
“If we are to access Eric’s dreams, we’re gonna need some help from Discord as he’s the only one who can bypass Glacio’s magic,” Princess Celestia replied.
It was then that Discord teleported into the throne room, “Somepony call for me?” he asked.
“Yes, Discord. We suspect Glacio has been tormenting Eric in his sleep with nightmares and he somehow managed to block me from entering his dreams, that’s why we need your help,” Princess Luna explained.
“Only you can unblock Luna’s access to Eric’s dreams. If we don’t do this, Glacio’s nightmare magic could have disastrous consequences on Eric’s psyche,” Emerald added.
“Consider it done,” Discord said.
“Thank you, Discord,” Princess Celestia replied.
“Eric, Luna and Discord are going to enter your thoughts, but in order to do so, they’ll have to put you into a sleep-like state, are you willing to go through with this?” Twilight asked.
“If it means getting Glacio out of my head, I’m ready,” Eric replied.
It wasn’t long before Eric was brought into one of the castle’s guest rooms. Luna cast her spell, putting Eric into a sleep-like state. Discord sensed Glacio was using his nightmare magic and was able to bypass the barrier Glacio cast and allow Luna access to Eric’s dreams.
It was then that Shadow Glacio and the Mane 7 bat-ponies appeared.
“Luna, how did you get past my barrier?” Shadow Glacio asked.
“I didn’t, brother. He did,” Luna replied, pointing to Discord.
“We’re here to drive you out of Eric’s dreams!” Discord added.
“Let’s agree to disagree,” Shadow Glacio said, then turned to the Mane 7 bat-ponies, “Stop them!”
“Discord, you handle Shadow Glacio. I’ll take care of these goons,” Luna said.
Discord conjured up a wand, then a duel broke out between him and Shadow Glacio. Meanwhile, Luna was brawling with the Mane 7 bat-ponies. It wasn’t long before she was able to make them disappear, she then joined Discord in dueling with Shadow Glacio.
Soon enough, Shadow Glacio just couldn’t hold out, “Get out of Eric’s head, Glacio!” Luna said, as she and Discord were able to overpower it and make it disappear.
“And stay out! Hasta la vista, baby!” Discord added.
Luna and Discord then returned to the outside world. He then cast a protective spell on Eric so that Glacio could not torment him in his dreams again. It wasn’t long before Eric woke up, “Thanks, Princess Luna. You too, Discord,” he said.
“Happy to help,” Discord replied as he teleported out of the room.
“Just before you woke up, Discord cast a protective spell on you so that Glacio won’t bother you in your sleep again,” Luna said.
“I’m glad this problem is over,” Eric replied.
“Celestia and I are hosting a Hearth’s Warming party in one hour, all are welcome,” Luna said.
“I could sure use some good holiday fun,” Eric replied.
Eric and Luna left the room to make preparations for the holiday party.

Chapter 11: School Raze - Part 1
On a calm spring day, Twilight and Storm were in their office looking over some papers. They didn’t notice that Cozy Glow came in.
“Good morning, Professors Sparkle and Blade!” Cozy Glow greeted as she gave them the mail.
“The mail’s here already? What time is it?!“ Twilight asked, looking at the clock, “We’re late for our class’s field trip to Cloudsdale!“
Twilight took out hers and Storm’s saddlebags as she frantically panted and tapped her hooves.
“I sure hope we don’t miss it!” Storm added.
“Don’t worry. I asked Professor Rainbow Dash and Counselor Starlight to cover for you two,” Cozy Glow replied.
“Good thinking,” Storm said.
“And they said yes?” Twilight asked.
“Uh-huh. I told her how busy you are and how much her loyalty meant to you,” Cozy Glow replied, “I also color-coded your teaching schedule by friendship element and catalogued all the magical artifacts in the school. I hope that’s okay.”
“Okay? Cozy, that’s amazing! You’re like our right-hoof pony! I don’t know what we’d do without you,” Twilight said.
“If only Eric could see how nice and helpful you are, Cozy. I’m still surprised that he’s so suspicious of you,” Storm added.
“It’s like you taught me. Helping is what friendship’s all about,” Cozy Glow replied.
“Exactly, and hopefully our class is learning that on their field trip right now,” Twilight said.
“I heard they might do some sightseeing first,” Cozy Glow replied.
Twilight and Storm looked out the window with Cloudsdale in the distance.
Later on, Eric rushed into the office, holding Midnight. He noticed Fluttershy, Rarity, Rainbow Dash, Starlight, and Cozy Glow alongside his parents. Five of them, including his parents were in the same predicament.
“Mom! Dad! Midnight’s magic is gone! My wand also stopped working!” Eric said.
Just then, the door opened revealing Spike gagging like he’s sick.
“Spike, what’s wrong?” Twilight asked.
Spike didn’t answer as he kept gagging, Rarity then slammed her hoof on his back to help him belch out a letter.
“Thanks. I’ve never had a letter get stuck before,” Spike said, sighing in relief, “It’s from Princess Celestia! We’ve all been called to an emergency meeting in Canterlot! Look!”
Twilight took the letter with her magic, only for it to fall on the floor.
“Pretty sure we all know what it’s about,” Twilight replied.
Canterlot
The Mane 7, Starlight, Spike, and Cadance, along with Eric and his friends were gathered in the throne room, meeting with Princesses Celestia and Luna, along with Lord Emerald.
“Throughout our city, ponies have been reporting tales of their magic failing. Spells going wrong. Potions not working,” Princess Celestia said.
“Even raising the moon has become difficult. Are there similar troubles in Ponyville?” Luna asked.
“We experienced it first-hoof,” Twilight replied.
“Even my wand stopped working,” Eric added, still holding Midnight.
“It’s the same in my kingdom. The Crystal Heart seems safe for now, but I worry if this continues,” Princess Cadance said.
It was then that the local mail delivery pony entered the throne room. He gave a salute and said, “Letter for the princess from Star Swirl the Bearded!”
Spike took the letter and held it close to Princess Celestia so she could read it, as he hovered.
“Ah! It is even more terrible than we feared! Magic is disappearing all across Equestria!” Princess Celestia said, then everyone else gasped, “Star Swirl believes the power will drain from our land in three days. First, unicorn magic and spells will fail.”
“That’s what’s happening now,” Starlight replied.
“On the second day, creatures will lose their magic abilities,” Celestia continued.
“Oh, no!” Fluttershy gasped.
“This is a disaster,” Storm said.
“And finally, magical artifacts will stop working. When the sun sets on the third day, the magic in our world will be gone forever!” Celestia finished.
Everyone gasped in horror.
“But why is this happening now?” Cadance asked.
“That’s the worst part. We have no idea,” Princess Luna replied.
“Has anypony checked on Tirek?” Twilight asked.
“You mean the big, red, scary centaur who eats magic? Why would we wa— Ohhhh. Riiiiight,” Pinkie replied.
“If he has found some way to escape his prison or work from within it, he could be responsible for this,” Princess Celestia said.
“That is the best explanation so far,” Princess Luna added.
“This might sound crazy but, I don’t think Tirek is behind it. This smells like Glacio to me,” Storm replied.
“What do you mean, dad?” Eric asked.
“I suspect he must have found some means of stealing magic so that he can use it for himself, leaving us defenseless as he conquers Equestria,” Storm explained.
“Whether it’s Glacio or Tirek, we’re doomed either way unless we can find the source of the problem and stop it,” Lord Emerald said.
“Agreed. Regardless of who is responsible, somepony should investigate,” Princess Luna added.
“We’ll go,” Twilight replied.
“Oh, no-no-no-no-no-no. Not without us, you wo—“ Rarity said, then asked, “Wait. Did you say ’we’?”
“I’ve finally learned that it’s okay to count on your friends for help,” Twilight replied.
“We both have,” Storm added in agreement.
“Um, you do want to come, right?” Twilight asked.
“Uh, duh!“ Rainbow replied.
“We’ll take that as a yes,” Storm said.
“Thank you, all. We will search for ways to protect Equestria in your absence,” Princess Celestia replied.
“Be careful. Tartarus has changed since you were there, It now holds many dangerous creatures, and you won’t be able to rely on your magic,” Luna added.
“With her friends by her side, she won’t have to,” AppleJack said.
The next night, Eric rocked his little brother, Midnight to sleep and sang softly to him:
(All credit for this song goes to Disney)
“Sweet dreams, Midnight,” Eric whispered.
He then kissed his hand and patted Midnight’s cheek, then gently placed him in his crib. It was then that Eric went entered the School of Friendship through one of the window to his parents’ office. In the hallway, Sandbar was carrying some books when he noticed three other pony students talking to each other.
“Cozy Glow baked our class cupcakes today!” the one called Citrine Spark said.
“And she made all of us friendship bracelets!” the one called Berry Bliss added.
“She’s the nicest pony I’ve ever met. I’m so glad she’s headmare!” the one called Patty Peppermint replied.
“Uh, temporary headmare? Right, guys?” Sandbar asked.
“Oh, oh, of course. But if Twilight takes her time coming back, I won’t mind,” Citrine Spark replied.
The three of them laughed as they went on their way. Sandbar picked up the books, then entered the library and met up with his friends.
“Finally! We thought you forgot about study club,” Silverstream said.
“Sorry I’m late. Cozy Glow gave our class tickets to a Sapphire Shores concert in Ponyville tonight,” Sandbar replied.
“You get the feeling Cozy’s trying too hard to make us like her?” Gallus asked.
“Or maybe she just wants to help us keep our minds off of how scary it is that magic’s disappearing,” Ocellus replied.
“I don’t trust her. What’s she up to behind those big eyes and bouncy curls?” Smolder asked.
Just then, the seven of them heard a clattering noise. Eric was also in the library for he was trying to find out the true cause of the magic disappearing.
“And why Cozy pony coming out catacombs so late at night?” Yona added.
She and the others saw Cozy Glow exiting the catacombs and headed out of the library.
“Let’s go ask her,” Gallus said.
“Good thinking,” Bramble replied as they followed her.
“Guys, wait for me!” Eric said.
“Hey, Eric,” Bramble replied.
“You trying to find Cozy Glow? So am I, maybe you can help me out,” Eric said.
“Of course. Anything for my sister’s friend,” Bramble replied.
Eric snuck out of the library with them.
“What is Cozy Glow up to down there?” Eric asked quietly.
Soon enough, the Student 7 and Eric followed Cozy Glow all the way to Twilight and Storm’s office. They watched her enter as the door was just slightly open. It was then that Neighsay revealed himself, turning around and faced Cozy Glow.
“Where are Princess Twilight and Prince Storm?!” Neighsay asked.
“Oh, golly. They’re away on a quest. I’m watching the school for them,” Cozy Glow replied.
“Magic is failing across our land, and they left a foal in charge of this facility?” Neighsay said.
“Yes, sir! Is there anything I can do for you?” Cozy Glow asked.
“That won’t be necessary. Twilight and Storm’s folly stops here. As of now, I am headstallion, and I have quite a few changes to make,” Neighsay replied, with a devious smile on his face.
Cozy Glow scowled at him, while the Student 7 had looks of concern on their faces and Eric just gasped quietly. Neighsay slid his hoof across Twilight’s desk and put the Student 7’s files in the waste basket.
“What are you doing?! Those are Twilight and Storm’s student files!” Cozy Glow asked.
“These aren’t. Not anymore. With Equestria under attack, ponies must stand together,” Neighsay replied, “Twilight and Storm endangered us all by skipping off on friendship trips while these dangerous creatures run loose.”
“You don’t think they’re the reason magic is disappearing, do you?” Cozy Glow asked. The Student 7 were taken aback by what they were hearing.
“Yes, and I came to warn Twilight and Storm. But since they are gone, it falls to me to protect you foals from these monsters,” Neighsay replied.
Outside the door, the Student 7 felt so insulted that they chattered with each other. Eric quickly put on his invisibility cloak he first used three years ago.
“Did you hear something?” Neighsay asked.
“It sounded like it came from over there!” Cozy Glow replied, pointing at the door.
They opened the doors, causing the Student 7 to fall atop each other, into the office.
“You again. As I suspected,” Neighsay said.
He then activated his medallion and conjured up a magic chain to restrain them. The seven friends screamed as they were being chained.
“From now on, this school is pony-only! As nature intended,” Neighsay declared.
“More like you intended,” Bramble retorted.
It was not long before Neighsay placed the restrained Student 7 in one of the student dorm rooms.
“Since you refuse to explain your plot against Equestria and return the magic you stole, you will stay here while I summon your guardians to take you home,” Neighsay said.
“Wait! You were right about them from the beginning, sir. I see that now,” Sandbar interrupted.
“Wisely put, colt,” Neighsay replied as he freed Sandbar with his medallion, “Everypony will come to their senses eventually.”
Neighsay and Sandbar then closed the door and left the dorms. Under the cover of his cloak, Eric followed Sandbar quietly.
Soon enough, Eric and Sandbar went over to Sweet Apple Acres to get help. He threw apples at one of the bedroom windows until Apple Bloom woke up and opened the window, yawning and rubbing her eye. She ducked as he threw a watering can into her room.
“Sorry, I ran out of apples. I need the Cutie Mark Crusaders. My friends are in trouble. Neighsay locked them up,” Sandbar replied.
“Huh? I thought Cozy Glow was in charge,” Apple Bloom said.
“Not anymore, but you guys are good buddies. If you can convince her to distract Neighsay, I can break out my friends. Will you help us?” Sandbar replied.
“Do mulberries have seeds?” Apple Bloom asked rhetorically, leaving Sandbar confused, “That’s a yes.”
Back in Tartarus, the Mane 7 and Spike were still trying to get answers from Tirek.
“Where is Equestria’s magic going, Tirek? What’s making it disappear?” Twilight asked.
“If you let me out, I’m sure it will jog my memory,” Tirek replied, “What do you say? I scratch your back, you scratch mine?”
“How about you tell us what you know or you’ll be stuck here forever, because we’re out of magic keys and nopony can open the door?” Rainbow demanded.
“Oh, dear. I hadn’t thought of that,” Rarity said.
“We’re just as trapped as Tirek?” Spike asked with concern.
“We’ll figure something out, Spike. We always do,” Storm replied reassuringly.
“What a pity. Well, for you. Sweet revenge for me. It seems my little protégé’s plan worked after all,” Tirek said.
The Mane 7 and Spike gasped in horror.
“Which little protégé?” Applejack asked.
“Oh, we’ve never met. We’re pen pals. Each letter had so many questions about draining magic,” Tirek replied.
“And you answered them?!” Pinkie asked, getting into his face.
“I was bored. So I simply pointed my pen pal in the right direction,” Tirek said, getting into her face.
Pinkie then collapsed onto the ground and Fluttershy helped her up.
“Can’t you just tell us your pen pal’s name? I mean, since we’re stuck here anyway?” Fluttershy asked.
“Oh, why not? The irony is too perfect,” Tirek said, “Her name is...”
School of Friendship
“Cozy Glow! I-I could’ve sworn I saw her come down this way when she left her office,” Sandbar said.
“I did too,” Eric replied.
He, Sweetie Belle, Apple Bloom, and Scootaloo entered the catacombs followed by Sandbar as he closed the grate. The five of them gasped as they saw Starlight trapped in a magic sphere surrounded by six cultural relics arranged in a spell circle.
“Enjoying yourself in there, Starlight? I’m sorry I had to push you in. But what else could I do? You were going to ruin all my plans,” Cozy Glow said.
The five of them gasped again at what they saw.
“You might get some company soon, if I can’t make that annoying Neighsay back off! All this magic needs time to drain from Equestria before my vortex sucks it to another realm. Three days can sure seem like forever, huh? You know, you ponies got it all wrong. Friendship isn’t magic. Friendship is power! With Twilight and her lackeys out of my way, all of Equestria will bow to me! The future Empress of Friendship!” Cozy Glow finished, then laughed maniacally.
Eric Sparkle and the Mysterious Filly
Chapter 12: School Raze - Part 2
Tartarus
“Cozy Glow is behind all of this?!” Twilight asked.
“I'm not usually a fan of ponies, but draining your precious world of magic so she could trap the seven of you was inspiring!” Tirek said, laughing evilly.
“Um, there's eight of us,” Spike pointed out.
The Mane 7 and Spike rushed to the entrance with haste.
“I knew we shouldn't have left!” Twilight said.
“But Starlight's in charge at the school. If anypony can stop Cozy Glow, it's her,” Applejack replied.
“Cozy Glow outsmarted the seven of you! I doubt this Starlight stands a chance!” Tirek warned, mockingly.
“We have to get out of here. Her students can't handle Cozy on their own,” Twilight said.
Twilight and Storm gasped in unison as they suddenly realized something.
“What is it, you two?” Applejack asked.
“Eric was right!” Twilight replied.
“What do you mean, darlings?” Rarity wondered.
“Eric was suspicious of Cozy Glow from the start, he figured she was up to something and he was right,” Storm said.
“And we didn’t believe him,” Twilight added, “I hope we can get out and apologize to him.”
“Right. But without our magic, we’re doomed,” Storm replied.
“Then I guess we'll just have to bust our way out!” Rainbow Dash suggested.
She then flew straight at the door only to crash into it and fall to the ground.
“That didn't work,” Rainbow groaned.
“Not everything can be solved with brute force. We need magic to escape,” Rarity replied as she helped Rainbow up.
“Maybe there's a way to get out without magic. Like a secret lever or a secret button or a secret admirer who knows a secret about you but is all, ‘Your secret's safe with me because I put it in Tartarus and I have a key!’” Pinkie said.
“I'm afraid not. The most powerful villains and monsters of all time are trapped here. And without our magic, so are we,” Twilight replied.
“I say we think positive. Eric and his friends are the only hope of stopping Cozy Glow now, we should have faith in them, and maybe they can rally our students to help,” Storm said.
Cerberus just whimpered with one head licking another one.
“Unless… These creatures might be losing their magical powers, but there's still a magic that makes up what they are. Maybe we can borrow some of that,” Twilight suggested as the cockatrice hissed.
“Good thinking, Twily. But even if this works, we still need to put our faith in Eric and his friends to stop Cozy Glow and bring our magic back,” Storm replied.
The others made faces as they were unsure about this.
Back in the catacombs, Sandbar led Eric, Sweetie Belle, and Scootaloo to the spell circle where Starlight was held.
“I figured that shady filly was up to something and I was right,” Eric said.
“Cozy Glow did all of this? How? Why?” Sweetie Belle asked.
“I don't know. But come on, y'all. We gotta get Starlight out of there before she comes back,” Apple Bloom replied.
The three of them rushed to help Starlight only for her to signal them to stop, along with Sandbar and Eric to call out, “Wait!”
Sweetie Belle stepped in the circle, then magic clawed tendrils reached out and grabbed her, trying to suck her in as she screamed.
“Sweetie Belle!” Scootaloo shouted.
“Help!” Sweetie Belle called out.
Eric rushed to save his girlfriend, he managed to grab her back legs with Scootaloo grabbing onto Eric, Apple Bloom grabbing onto Scootaloo, and Sandbar grabbing onto Apple Bloom. In a chain, they managed to get Sweetie Belle out of the magical grip and fell on the ground.
“That's gotta be what's suckin' up all the magic in Equestria,” Apple Bloom said.
“But if that's true, then Twilight and the others went to Tartarus for nothing. And if all of Equestria's magic's getting sucked up in there, there's no way for them to get back!” Sandbar replied.
“We need to get help!” Scootaloo said.
“But Starlight's trapped here, and there's no way to get word to Celestia or anypony else!” Sweetie Belle replied.
“Nightshade and the others are currently preoccupied in Canterlot trying to get some dirt on Crimson Mystic and help remove him from the EEA,” Eric added.
“I guess we're on our own,” Apple Bloom said.
Back in the dorm room, Gallus tried to open the door only to fail since it was locked.
“Still locked, huh?” Smolder asked.
“We gotta at least try to get out,” Gallus said.
“Why? If Sandbar's turned his back on us, every other pony probably has, too,” Ocellus replied.
“No need to worry, lovebug. I’m sure he faked it in order to get help,” Bramble said, causing Ocellus to blush.
“Sandbar not turn his back! Sandbar is our friend!” Yona added.
“Uh, did you miss the part where he said he didn't want anything to do with us?” Smolder asked.
“I agree with Bramble. Maybe he just said that so one of us could be free to snoop around and figure out what's going on,” Silverstream replied.
“I dunno. That sounds too clever for a pony to come up with,” Sandbar said as he opened the window.
Yona gasped and laughed happily as she tackled Sandbar, “Yona knew Sandbar was still our friend!” she replied.
“We all are,” Sweetie Belle said.
“Except for Cozy Glow. That pony is not who we thought she was,” Scootaloo replied.
“She's the one draining magic out of Equestria!” Apple Bloom added.
“What?!” the rest of the Student 7 asked in unison.
“It’s true! I knew there was something I didn’t like about her and my suspicions were right,” Eric replied.
“We'll explain on the way. But right now, we gotta get to get to Mr. Neighsay,” Sandbar added.
“Huh?” Gallus asked.
“I know he doesn't like non-ponies. But if we tell him what's going on, he'll help,” Sandbar said.
The next morning
“I am sure you are all concerned about the magic situation. But I want to assure you that this institution is safe, despite the absence of your headmare and vice headstallion. As your new headstallion, let me be the first to say that the reign of Princess Twilight is over! From now on, this school will adhere to EEA doctrine, as it should have from the start!” Neighsay announced.
The students murmured among each other upon hearing the announcement.
“Thank you, Mr. Neighsay, for that rousing speech. I know you're a stallion who truly believes what you say. And when you say this school will be run according to EEA doctrine, I know you mean it. And when you say there won't be any more lessons from the Princess of Friendship at the School of Friendship, I guess you mean that, too,” Cozy Glow replied.
The students murmured again.
“That's not exactly what—” Neighsay tried to say.
“So, since I know you mean what you say, my question is really for the students,” Cozy Glow replied cutting him off, “Are we going to give the pony who already tried to wreck Twilight's school once another chance to do it?”
The students voiced their displeasure against Neighsay.
“I guess things will have to stay the way Twilight wants them. Which includes leaving me in charge,” Cozy Glow said.
The students shouted as they approached Neighsay and carried him off, “ This—! I can—! Just—!” he tried to say, stuttering.
The janitor closet door was opened, revealing the Student 7, Eric, and his fellow CMCs.
“Okay. So maybe we need a new plan,” Sandbar said.
The pony students placed Neighsay in Twilight’s chair and put him in chains.
“Oh, oh, not too tight. We don't want to hurt him,” Cozy Glow said, then secured the chains with a padlock and patted his head, “I'm sure Twilight and Storm will know what to do with him when they get back. Now, back to class, everyone. We let the EEA disrupt our friendship studies long enough.”
The students exited the office and went to their class. Cozy Glow then closed the door and flew up to Neighsay.
“Why are you doing this? I thought you wanted to have somepony in charge of the school,” Neighsay said as Cozy Glow placed a box of her belongings on the desk.
“Oh, I do. You just aren't the pony I had in mind,” Cozy Glow replied with a devious smirk.
She placed his medallion in the waste basket then explained, “I can't very well have the EEA running the school if I want to run it myself. Of course, that's just the beginning. You see, if there's one thing I've learned here, it's that friendship is the most powerful thing there is. And as headmare of the School of Friendship, nopony will have more friends than me! Making me the most powerful pony in Equestria!”
Cozy Glow laughed maniacally as Neighsay gulped nervously. She then exited the office, giggling evilly.
“Hey, Cozy Glow! What's so funny?” Scootaloo said.
“Are you just happy to be running the school?” Sweetie Belle asked.
“Oh, I'm just keeping Twilight's seat warm,” Cozy Glow replied.
“Still, it's pretty impressive,” Apple Bloom said as she, Eric, Sweetie Belle, and Scootaloo walked down the hallway alongside Cozy.
“Is there anything we can do to help?” Sweetie Belle asked.
“We can hang out with you all day if you want,” Scootaloo added.
Eric just kept a close eye on Cozy Glow as she said with a devious smile, “You know, there is something I need help with.”
The CMCs except for Eric cheered as she led them down the hallway. The Student 7 exited a room and entered the office. They found Neighsay struggling in the chair, trying to reach the waste basket and recover his medallion.
“Oh, wonderful. I suppose you've all come to gloat?” Neighsay said.
“Actually, we've come to undo all these chains and free you!” Silverstream replied as she and Sandbar attempted to undo the lock and chains.
“But... But why?” Neighsay asked.
“Now that nasty pony met even nastier pony, maybe nasty pony not be so nasty,” Yona said before rushing towards him.
Yona came to a halt as Neighsay closed his eyes and looked away fearing he would be rammed, only to be relieved once she used one of her horns to pick the lock. She then tipped down the chair, smashing it along with the chains.
“Also, we'd kind of like to stop Cozy before she drains all the magic from Equestria,” Sandbar added.
“She's behind that as well? I must get word to Celestia, Luna, and Emerald,” Neighsay said as he tipped over the waste basket.
“How? Without magic, it'll take forever to get to them,” Sandbar replied.
“While it's true that unicorns have lost their ability to cast spells, the most potent magic in Equestria is housed in our... artifacts,” Neighsay said, recovering his medallion, “The EEA medallion allows me to travel throughout Equestria. Its magic worked when I chained you up. Perhaps it still has enough to send me to the princesses and Lord Emerald.”
Neighsay tapped the medallion once, but nothing happened until he tapped it a second time. Just then, he managed to open a portal and went through it, then it disappeared.
“I hope he makes it,” Ocellus said.
“You and me both,” Bramble replied.
“I hope he doesn't come back and lock us up again,” Smolder said.
“If he comes back,” Gallus added.
“Everything's gonna be fine! Twilight and the others are probably already on their way!” Silverstream replied.
Canterlot
Nightshade, Zuni, Slapstick, Marina, Holly, and Pincer were still trying to get some dirt on Crimson Mystic. They snuck into his office and finally found plans and proposals to double the homework load on all students, to reinstate corporal punishment for all infractions, remove playground equipment from all the grade schools, remove extracurricular and hooves-on activities, and ban non-ponies from attending classes. They also saw a crystal ball. The six of them gasped in horror as they were taken aback by these plans.
“These proposals are way to extreme, hardly anypony will even agree with these!” Nightshade said.
“That’s not all, Nightshade. There’s also mind control collars, along with sacks of bits and gems,” Zuni replied as she looked through a secret compartment.
“He’s also got a crystal ball. Everyone we encountered with one of those has one thing in common,” Pincer added.
“Crimson Mystic is not just extreme, he’s downright evil and judging by the crystal ball, he’s working for Glacio. Brainwashing, embezzlement, and bribery are serious crimes. We need to show this to the princesses and Lord Emerald,” Slapstick said.
“Good thinking. Got any rope and duct tape in your saddlebag, Nightshade?” Marina asked.
“I do. Once we find Crimson Mystic, we’ll tie him up,” Nightshade replied.
“He’s coming our way,” Holly called out in a whisper.
“Quick, hide behind the doors,” Nightshade said.
“Good idea, that way we’ll take him by surprise,” Pincer replied.
The six friends hid behind the doors as Crimson entered his office. It was then that they tackled him to the floor.
“Let me go!” Crimson shouted.
“Tie him up!” Nightshade said.
The others nodded in reply, then tied his legs together. Slapstick put duct tape on Crimson’s mouth, then he and the others took the incriminating evidence and carried him to the palace.
Back at the School of Friendship, the CMCs were with Cozy Glow, walking down the hallway.
“It's just so excitin' to have a foal our age runnin' things. We should have an ice cream social every day!” Apple Bloom said.
“That's a splendid idea, Apple Bloom. But to tell you the truth, the thing I need help with most is cleaning,” Cozy Glow replied as they stopped at the janitorial closet.
“Say no more. Just take us around the school and show us everything you want cleaned,” Sweetie Belle said.
“Well, actually, you could start right in here,” Cozy Glow replied, pointing her hoof.
The three fillies were about to enter the closet, but Eric got in front of them.
“Girls, stop! It’s a trap!” he said, “She’s trying to lock us in!”
“You got that right. I know a diversion when I see it!” Cozy Glow replied.
“You. You foul, loathsome, evil little cockroach!” Eric said, getting into her face.
He then tackled Cozy Glow to the floor and wrestled her.
“Hey! Get off of me!” Cozy Glow shouted.
“Girls, go! Help the students and free Starlight!” Eric said.
“We’re on it!” Scootaloo replied.
The three fillies left to go rally the students.
Meanwhile, the Student 7 climbed down into the tunnels.
“Uh, why pony lead us back down here?” Yona asked.
“We obviously can't handle Cozy on our own. But we can't just sit around and wait for help. So, there's one more prisoner I think we should free,” Sandbar replied, showing them where Starlight was held.
“Ooh! I guess Starlight! Is it Starlight?” Silverstream asked excitedly.
Just then Yona rushed down to save Starlight, “Counselor pony, come out! We need help with nasty pony!” she said.
Starlight silently gasped from inside the orb and shook her head, attempting to signal Yona not to step on the circle. Sandbar stopped Yona before she could take another step, “She can't talk to us from in there. We'll have to figure a way to get her out,” he replied.
They took a side around the orb holding Starlight and looked at each of the relics.
“Hey! This is just like chapter twelve in "Kanthaka's Facts and Artifacts" from Twilight's class!” Gallus said, the others gave him a confused look, “What? I've been studying. Finals are coming up, you know?”
“Actually, I remember that, too! Cozy must've linked these artifacts to act like a mystical magnet, attracting all the magic in Equestria into that orb,” Ocellus replied.
“So, we can shut it down by yanking one of these things out, right?” Smolder suggested as she tried to grab Knuckerbocker’s shell.
“Sure, though that would probably cause a magical feedback loop and destroy the whole school!” Ocellus replied.
“Guys, look behind you!” Bramble shouted.
Sandbar and the others gasped as they saw a swarm of large spiders headed towards them. The spiders were white with the markings of a garden spider and the hair of a wolf spider. They also had two large fangs, along with four smaller ones and eight big eyes.
“Those are some big spiders!” Sandbar said.
“According to Professor Fluttershy, they’re giant cave spiders. Highly aggressive when they’re hungry or surprised, but they can also be docile if they don’t see you as prey,” Bramble explained, “I’m guessing Cozy Glow must’ve manipulated them into guarding the catacombs to prevent anyone from removing the artifacts from the circle and deactivating the orb.”
Just then, the spiders cut the Student 7 off from the relics and surrounded them, ready to attack.
Meanwhile, Storm and the other Mane 5 rushed out the doors, then Twilight flew out quickly as they closed. She then fell on the ground as they were finally out of Tartarus.
“Yay! Twilight did it!” Pinkie shouted.
“I couldn't have done it without all your help,” Twilight said.
“I'm not sure we did!” Rarity replied, pointing at the sunset.
“No!” Twilight exclaimed, as she and the others looked at the sunset.
“Tirek said all of Equestria's magic would be gone at sunset,” Applejack said, sadly.
“Without magic, there's no way we'll get back to the school in time!” Twilight replied.
“What does that mean?” Fluttershy asked.
“It means... we've failed!” Twilight said.
“We mustn’t lose hope, everypony. I believe Eric and his friends are fixing the problem right now,” Storm replied.
Back at the School of Friendship, the CMCs and the pony students came to aid the Student 7 as they kept the cave spiders away.
“Grab the relics! We’ll hold off the spiders!” Scootaloo said.
“Don’t worry, Eric’s keepin’ Cozy Glow busy,” Apple Bloom added.
Just then, the floor cracked open and released a vortex. The Student 7 were glowing as the Tree of Harmony was signaling them to save all the magic.
“Guess our friendship is pretty magical after all,” Gallus remarked.
“Hurry! Grab the artifacts!” Bramble said.
“Um, Ocellus, didn't you say that could destroy the school?” Silverstream asked.
“But if we don't try, we could lose magic forever!” Ocellus replied.
“You all better get clear!” Sandbar said.
The CMCs and the pony students ran out of the caverns as the Student 7 grabbed the Talisman of Mirage, Amulet of Aurora, Helm of Yksler, Knuckerbocker’s shell, King Grover’s crown, and Clover the Clever’s cloak. They raised the artifacts, which caused the orb to lift out of the vortex, freeing Starlight and restoring all of Equestria’s magic.
In the hallway, Eric and Cozy Glow were still engaged in their kiddie fight. They rolled across the floor until she kicked Eric upside down into the wall.
“Okay. Come on! You want a piece of me?!” Eric said.
Cozy Glow flew towards Eric and slapped him hard on the face, making his head spin. He stopped his head from spinning, then tackled Cozy to the ground on her back while shouting a battle cry. Eric bonked her head, then flipped her over and pulled on her forelegs behind her back.
“OOOOOWWW!” Cozy Glow screamed.
They both noticed the surge as Equestria’s magic was coming back. Cozy Glow was shocked to see this, “What?!” she exclaimed.
“Surrender, Cozy Glow. You’re plan failed!” Eric said.
“No fair!!” Cozy retorted.
Just outside Canterlot, the princesses, Lord Emerald, Neighsay, and the guards were amazed as they got their magic back. Neighsay immediately conjured a portal to the School of Friendship. Inside Tartarus, Tirek, Cerberus, and the other creatures had their magic returned to them as they returned to normal. As they left the entrance of Tartarus, the Mane 7 and Spike had smiles on their faces as they got their magic back. Twilight and Storm immediately teleported them back to the School of Friendship.
The CMCs and the pony students ran to the school courtyard, then Starlight teleported herself and the Student 7 there as well. Yona laughed happily as she rushed up to Starlight, “Counselor pony—!” she said.
“Uh, it's nice to see you, too,” Starlight replied nervously, catching Yona in her magic.
“I guess magic is back,” Ocellus said.
“Thanks to us, lovebug,” Bramble replied as they stared at each other lovingly.
“You've ruined everything! Now Twilight and her ridiculous friends can escape from Tartarus!” Cozy Glow ranted.
The Mane 7 and Spike teleported into the school courtyard, looking at her with angry faces. Eric and his friends also gave her angry looks. Cozy had a nervous look on her face, “I mean... Yay! All my friends are safe!” she said, faking her happiness.
“You can drop the act, Cozy Glow! Your pen pal Tirek told us all about how he helped you suck up all that magic!” Applejack replied.
“But I still don't understand why,” Twilight said as she approached Cozy, who then growled.
“Why?! Because friendship is power! You might be the Princess of Friendship, but as headmare of this school, I can collect even more friends than you !” Cozy Glow replied.
The students murmured among each other as they overheard the evil filly.
“You're the one who doesn't get it, Cozy. Friendship is powerful, but power isn't why you make friends. I'm sorry Storm and I couldn't teach you that,” Twilight said.
“Well, you taught us,” Gallus replied.
“You can't let one bad apple make you think you failed,” Silverstream added.
“And we never could've stopped her if we hadn't learned what you taught us about friendship,” Sandbar finished.
“Honesty? Loyalty? Generosity? Blah-blah-blah! I can make more friends without using any of them! And if I can't do it here, I'll do it somewhere else!” Cozy Glow said as she tried to fly away.
Just then, the pony students cut her off on one side, “Yeah...I don't think so!” the one called Patty Peppermint replied.
Cozy Glow was quickly cut off on all sides by the princesses, Lord Emerald, Neighsay, and the guards. Two of the guards caught her and took her away.
“I’m glad you’re back, mom and dad,” Eric said, hugging them.
“You did it, sport. I knew you could stop Cozy Glow,” Storm replied.
“You were right about Cozy Glow, sweetheart. We’re sorry we didn’t believe you before,” Twilight added.
“I just kept her busy while Bramble and his friends undid her evil scheme,” Eric said, “It’s not your fault, mom. Cozy Glow had all of you fooled.”
“Twilight, we recovered the relics Cozy Glow used to try and drain the magic,” Sweetie Belle spoke up.
“Thank you, Sweetie Belle,” Twilight replied.
Eric then took the Amulet of Aurora and the Talisman of Mirage. He then took out his basilisk fang and stabbed the amulet’s centerpiece. This caused it to magically shatter and disperse its energy harmlessly. He also stabbed the headpiece of the Talisman of Mirage, causing the same effect as they were both destroyed.
“Sorry, mom. It had to be done, because we can’t have anyone trying to drain our magic again,” Eric said.
“It’s alright. We can always make replicas of the Amulet of Aurora and the Talisman of Mirage,” Twilight replied.
The next day, Twilight, Storm, Celestia, Eric, and Neighsay were walking down the school hallway.
“I'm glad you're back in charge of the School of Friendship, Prince and Princess,” Neighsay said, as he opened the door, “It's clear to me now that there are no ponies better suited for the job.”
“Thanks, Neighsay,” Storm replied.
Just then, they noticed the Student 7 were in robes with Spike burping up some scrolls.
“What's going on?” Twilight asked.
“Hi, Headmare Twilight and Vice Headstallion Storm! We're just practicing for graduation!” Silverstream said.
Neighsay and Twilight laughed, “Saving Equestria is nice, but I'm afraid it'll take more than one semester to learn all there is to know about friendship,” she replied.
“Told ya,” Spike said.
“Awwww...” the Student 7 groaned.
“However, your effort does deserve the Pink Hearts of Courage. You proved yourselves as true national heroes,” Storm added.
“Cool! Even better!” Bramble replied.
“Your headmare and vice headstallion are right. I thought friendship was something only ponies should share with each other. But you all taught me how wrong I was. I suppose true friendship can take a lifetime to understand,” Neighsay explained.
“If it were easy to learn, we wouldn't need a school,” Twilight pointed out.
“Prince Eric, I owe you an apology for everything I’ve said about you last year. Can you forgive me?” Neighsay apologized.
“I forgive you, Mr. Neighsay,” Eric replied.
“Thanks, Prince Eric. I shall be making a lot of apologies today,” Neighsay said.
“Good thinking, Neighsay. I’ve spoken with Vice Chancellor Pearly Flare and in light of seeing the error of your ways, your position as chancellor is hereby restored,” Celestia replied.
“Thank you, Celestia. It seems that I shall amend the EEA guidelines,” Neighsay said, “Twilight and Storm, since your school is functional again and as a sign of my goodwill, I officially grant full EEA accreditation.”
“Thanks…Chancellor,” Twilight and Storm replied in unison.
“What’s gonna become of Cozy Glow?” Eric asked.
“I can assure you. Where she's going, she won't be causing any more trouble,” Princess Celestia replied.
In Tartarus, Tirek was still in locked up as Cerberus whimpered, feeling bored.
“Of course it's boring here now! But at least you're not in a cage!” Tirek said.
Just then, Luna and two guards came in through a portal with Cozy Glow and locked her up next to Tirek. Afterwards, they returned to Canterlot.
“Hey, neighbor. Wanna be friends?” Cozy Glow asked with a smirk.
Back at the School of Friendship, the Student 7 were gathered in the courtyard for a ceremony.
“Attention, students and staff. We are gathered to honor the heroism of these seven friends, Bramble, Sandbar, Yona, Gallus, Silverstream, Ocellus, and Smolder. For they showed true friendship and courage in the face of seemingly unfavorable odds,” Twilight said.
The pony students, as well as the other Mane 5, Spike, and Starlight cheered for the seven friends.
“That’s why for their heroic effort to stop Cozy Glow’s evil plot to strain Equestria’s magic, we are proud to award them the Equestria Pink Hearts of Courage,” Storm added, then turned to Eric, “Care to do the honors, Eric?”
“Consider it done, dad,” Eric replied.
Eric presented the medals to the Student 7 and placed them around their necks.
“Everyone, give it up for Equestria’s newest heroes!” Eric said.
Everyone attending the ceremony cheered and stomped their hooves.

Chapter 1: School Daze - Part 1
It has been a week since the Friendship Festival and the Storm King’s invasion. The Mane 7, Starlight, Spike, and Eric gathered around the cutie map table to see that the map expanded more of the placed beyond Equestria that they went to.
“So, this happened while we were gone?” Twilight asked.
“Wow! Those are all the places we want to when we left to save Equestria!” Applejack said.
“Ugh! There’s that horrid town,” Rarity remarked.
“The pirates! They were pretty awesome! Once they decided not to throw us overboard,” Rainbow Dash said.
“And Mount Aris! Ooh, Starlight! Remember when we made seashell necklaces for aaaaaa ...” Pinkie Pie inhaled and then continued, “...aaaaall the seaponies?”
“I... You... Really? What about that unicorn? The one who attacked Canterlot?” Starlight asked.
“Tempest! I invited her to come to Ponyville, but she wanted to spread the word of the Storm King’s defeat and share what she learned about friendship,” Twilight replied.
“That and she’s also trying to keep a low profile since Glacio put a price on her head. He probably has informants in a lot of places and if Tempest is spotted, she’s a dead mare,” Storm added.
“Does this we won’t be seeing Tempest for a while?” Eric asked.
“I’m afraid so, sweetheart,” Twilight said.
“So, y’all think that’s why the map grew? Friendship quests beyond Equestria?” Applejack asked.
“I hope not. I’ve had quite enough life-threatening adventures, thank you very much,” Fluttershy said.
“How many friendship quests do you think we need to go on before we have to expand the throne room?” Pinkie Pie asked, wearing a hard hat as she took out a tape measure.
“We can’t do it all alone,” Twilight said.
“Sure we can! We just need to knock this wall down, get some paint...” Pinkie replied as she took out a jackhammer and a jar of pink paint.
“No, I mean the world is filled with so many different creatures who know nothing about friendship. We need help if we’re gonna teach them all about friendship. Lots of help,” Twilight said.
“Perhaps, darling. But where does one go to learn about friendship?” Rarity asked.
“Here! They can all go here! Because that’s why we’re going to open a school!” Twilight replied.
“Good thinking, Twily,” Storm said, “We might want to go to Canterlot and discuss it with Princess Celestia.”
After discussing their idea with Princess Celestia, Twilight, Storm, and Spike were finally at the Equestrian Education Association (EEA) building and proceeded to present their idea. There were some lights, and all the board members sat in their desks high above, looking down at all potential applicants. A lone spotlight shined down on Twilight and Storm as they tried to stay calm.
“I’m gonna go with ‘really hard’,” Spike said.
“Uh, hello. My name is—“ Twilight tried to introduce herself.
“Princess Twilight Sparkle and Prince Storm Blade,” a voice spoke up. Their attention was quickly drawn to a tall, lanky unicorn stallion clad in a dark red robe. He had a very light grayish-white coat, a dark gray mane and tail, and stern moderate turquoise eyes, “I am Chancellor Neighsay. Equestria owes you two a great debt. But princess and prince or no, we expect you to do things by... the... book!”
He threw down a heavy rule book to prove his point. Twilight and Storm were deterred at first before she levitated over their own heavy books. “I think you’ll find our curriculum meets all your requirements, Chancellor,” she said.
“And you’re sure we can trust you to follow with this plan? Will you leave your school unattended to gallop of on your... “adventures”?” Chancellor Neighsay asked.
“Regarding that concern, we already lined up several candidates to fill in as substitute teachers for the classes, in case any of us are sent to solve friendship problems or are unavailable for other reasons, and we’re planning to put provisions in place to handle any emergency,” Storm explained.
“I see you’ve done some research, I like that you two came here with a plan,” Chancellor Neighsay replied.
“Our journey beyond Equestria showed us firsthoof that the threats out there are greater than we imagined!” Twilight said.
“Especially with Glacio trying to make allies with others who dare to threaten us since the Alicorn Amulet was destroyed,” Storm added.
Several members of the EEA started to speak in hushed and frightened tones of voices as Twilight continued, “If we want to keep our land safe and create a friendlier tomorrow, we need to teach the magic of friendship far and wide!”
“A school for ponies to learn how to protect themselves!” Chancellor Neighsay replied.
“Uh, more like respecting differences and communicating,” Twilight said.
“I agree. This school shall teach the values that hold our country together,” Storm added.
There was a long pause as Neighsay let the words slowly sink in. After looking around the room, the chancellor finally spoke up, “The EEA concurs. Everypony should be prepared to defend our way of life. So, if your work is all in order, provisional EEA approval is hereby granted. We will need to observe your school up and running before it can be fully accredited.”
Twilight bowed her head as she offered, “Then please, join us for Friends and Family Day. It’ll be the perfect time to see our progress!” It was then that the EEA gave its stamp of approval, allowing for construction of the school to commence.
Twilight and Storm immediately recognized one of the council members, who was none other than a former magic school professor of theirs, Crimson Mystic . The council-stallion in question returned to his office, where he took out a crystal ball. It was then that Glacio appeared on it.
“My lord, Princess Twilight and Prince Storm are opening up a school of friendship,” Crimson said.
“This could be a problem for my plans. Make sure that it doesn’t open up,” Glacio replied.
“That won’t be a problem, given how speciesist Chancellor Neighsay is. If he finds out that other creatures are attending, he’ll shut it down for me,” Crimson said.
“Good,” Glacio replied as the crystal ball deactivated.
Construction of the school began soon after Twilight and Storm returned from Canterlot. It surprisingly took less time to build than Twilight thought. Within eight months, the school was finished. It was built into a nearby mountain with a waterfall that cascaded down and split apart, gathering into a large pool. It was made up of two towers and an entire upper level. The symbol hung above depicted the six gems that the Elements of Harmony had originally been, inside a shield. The inside had relaxing bluish-green colored walls and earthly light brown floors.
Eric and his friends were attending the grand opening as a show of their support. It wasn’t long before Twilight and Storm went up to give their announcement.
“Everypony and everycreature? Can we have your attention please?” Twilight asked, as the students stopped talking and listened to Twilight before she continued, “Welcome to the School of Friendship! I’m your headmare Twilight Sparkle.”
“And I’m your vice head-stallion Storm Blade. These are your teachers, Professors Rarity, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, and Rainbow Dash. We promise that we’ll make sure that you’ll have the first best year here in your lives,” Storm added.
“Please follow Guidance Counselor Starlight to sign in and get your class assignments, then we can show you your living quarters,” Twilight finished.
It wasn’t long before King Aspen showed up with Prince Bramble.
“Princess Twilight and Prince Storm, I’d like to enroll my son, Prince Bramble at the school,” King Aspen said.
“Good to see you again, King Aspen. We’ll be honored to have your son as a student,” Storm replied.
“Mommy, my friends and I are gonna go check out the school,” Eric said.
“Alright, just make sure you get to Cheerilee’s class on time,” Twilight replied.
“Understood,” Eric said as he and his friends walked through the hallways.
They were in awe as they admired the interior design.
“Wow, this place is amazing,” Pincer said.
“My big brother, Zippy would love it here,” Zuni added.
“Maybe you should tell him about it and find out what he thinks,” Eric replied.
Once they finished checking out the classrooms, they had a look at the student quarters.
Back near the main entrance, Ember came in pulling a younger dragon by her wrist into the school.
“But dragons are better than this! Why am I here?“ the younger dragon complained.
“Because as Dragon Lord, I’m ordering you to be here!” Ember replied sternly, before turning to Spike, “Hey, Spike. Come meet Smolder.”
“Great to see you, Ember!” Spike greeted, running to her for a hug, as Ember hugged him as well.
Soon enough, Eric and his friends were finished checking out the school as they returned to the main entrance. They gave everyone a wave as Twilight and Storm came up to them.
“Eric, we’d like you to meet some of our new students. Sandbar , Yona , Gallus , Smolder , Ocellus , and you remember Prince Bramble,” Twilight said.
“Sandbar, Yona, Gallus, Silverstream, Smolder, and Ocellus, you probably already know who this is,” Storm added, pointing to Eric.
“Good to meet you all. Good to see you again, Bramble,” Eric replied.
Once Eric and his friends left the School of Friendship, they rushed to Ponyville Grade School. Once there, Nightshade teleported back to Canterlot so he could get to magic school. Eric and the others went inside to start the school day.
Several days passed and it was now Friends and Family Day, and just as he had promised Chancellor Neighsay had shown up to conduct his inspection for EEA accreditation. Meanwhile, the other Mane Five, Eric, and everyone else was outside chattering with each other. Prince Rutherford laughed after another of Pinkie Pie’s jokes, Ember and Spike clinked their glasses together.
“What is that ?!” Ember asked in shock.
Everyone looked up and saw Silverstream and Smolder carrying Yona, along with Gallus carrying Sandbar, and Ocellus disguised as a giant blue-green weevil-like monster with a stinger, carrying Prince Bramble. Everyone panicked, screaming at the sight of Ocellus’ monstrous disguise as the Student Seven returned from their ‘mental health break’.
“Aah! The school is under attack!” Chancellor Neighsay said.
Gallus threw Sandbar onto the ground, which led him to inadvertently bowl over Prince Rutherford, King Thorax, and General Seaspray. Silverstream, Smolder, and Yona crashed into the snack stand, causing a cake to splat into Grandpa Gruff’s face. Ocellus then flew out of control and bumped into part of the school, causing it to collapse before turning back into her normal form. She and Prince Bramble went down to the ground as the tower collapsed, the dust cleared making the leaders cough. Grandpa Gruff wiped the splattered cake off his face and ate it.
Twilight, Storm, and Chancellor Neighsay got up on their hooves as Ocellus and Bramble touched back on the ground.
“Uh, maybe skipping class wasn’t the best idea?” Silverstream asked.
“How dare you! This act of aggression against ponies—!” Chancellor Neighsay shouted.
“W-We’re so sorry, Chancellor. We clearly had some students get a little carried away,” Twilight said.
“Those are students?” Chancellor Neighsay rudely asked, “But you two said you were opening this school to protect Equestria! To defend ponies from... dangerous creatures who don’t have our best interests at heart!”
“Our school teaches for all of us to work together through friendship,” Twilight said.
“Dangerous?! Do you even hear yourself, Chancellor?!” Storm questioned, “Have you forgotten all they did for us?! The hippogriffs came to our aid when the Storm King attacked, the yaks and griffons are among our best trading partners, and the dragons and changelings have given us valuable information we couldn’t have gained on our own. They’re also helping us in our struggle against Glacio and his forces.”
“And how do you know these creatures won’t take what they have learned here and use it against us?” Chancellor Neighsay asked harshly, pointing at the leaders.
“Friendship isn’t just for ponies!” Twilight said.
“It should be,” Chancellor Neighsay retorted.
“You’re wrong, Chancellor!” Eric spoke up, “I agree with my parents. Everyone deserves to learn about the magic of friendship, pony or not, and you have no right to say such mean words about other creatures, you disrespectful jerk!”
“How dare you speak to me like that, Eric Sparkle?! You don’t belong here among ponies like us, you filthy two-legged, flat-faced brat and pathetic excuse for a prince!” Chancellor Neighsay shouted in his face.
Eric suddenly began shaking as he was whimpering over the chancellor’s hurtful words, tears were coming out of his eyes as he began to cry. Twilight hugged him close to her chest as he kept crying.
“Chancellor, don’t ever to our son like that! He is a well respected member of royalty and a hero!” Storm said.
“Unicorn think yaks no need friendship? Maybe yaks no need pony school!” Prince Rutherford hollered.
“Well, perhaps you should return to your kind ,” Chancellor Neighsay said rudely.
“‘Your kind’?! Smolder, let’s go!” Ember said angrily.
“Queen Novo will want to hear of this!” General Seaspray said angrily.
“Well, this place seemed lame anyways,” Grandpa Gruff said.
“Come, my son,” King Aspen said.
The other Young Six left with their escorts.
Thorax then sighed despondently, “It’s fine. We know not every pony sees us the way you do. We’re used to it.” He and Ocellus then left.
Twilight got angry at the chancellor until she walked over to him, “Princess Celestia helped us reach out to all the kingdoms! When she hears you closed the school because—!”
“Because you two failed to meet the EEA’s standards?” Chancellor Neighsay asked, cutting her off.
“What?!” Twilight asked.
“Irresponsible teachers, students skipping class, endangering ponies! Your school is a disaster. Perhaps if you had had higher standards for who was admitted, this could have been avoided,” Chancellor Neighsay remarked.
“With all due respect, Chancellor! We tried very hard to follow the EEA guidelines by the book, but we and our friends are still new to the whole idea of teaching and they were underprepared! Our students only skipped class because we found it difficult to find middle ground between your EEA guidelines and our own methods, leading them to not be engaged in their classes!” Storm explained angrily.
“That may be, but I will not let this incident slide! Regardless…” Chancellor Neighsay then touched his medallion and then casted a spell, conjuring up rattling blue chains and a huge EEA printed lock on the front doors of the school.
“By order of the EEA, I am shutting this school... down!” Chancellor Neighsay said with a stomp on the hoof. Twilight, Storm, Eric, and their friends gasped sadly. The chancellor continued, “In addition, Eric Sparkle, along with the ones called Pincer, Holly, Marina, Slapstick, and Zuni are all expelled from Ponyville Grade School!”
“What?! You can’t do this to them! They’ve done nothing to deserve this!” Storm replied in outrage.
“My decision is final!” Chancellor Neighsay said as he left.
