Kubfu's Path to Power

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Equestria. Canterlot Gardens. Afternoon.

Afterwards, they left the castle and the city as a whole, prepared to leave this universe. The group was a bit surprised with Red's actions, but they had to admit that it did take a lot of courage to offer to help Quartzstar after her defeat. And it was clear that she was determined to get with Red no matter what.

"I can't believe you got us roped into that. I would say it was a waste of time but..." Adagio sighed.

"But we did make it out okay. Plus, we got to show up so I'm not really complaining all that much. You sure do have a way with words when it comes to the gals, don't you, Red?" Sunset Shimmer said, a little annoyed with Red.

That being said, she was impressed with him. He was able to get them out of that situation. But now she was going to have to worry about another girl chasing after Red. Sunset didn't want him to marry her, but she had to admit that Quartzstar was a bit cute and the way she tried so hard to win him over was admirable. She wouldn't mind seeing Quartzstar try again and again. After all, a little competition was fun.

"Let's just keep moving forward." Adagio was just ready to move on and forget this universe. All she wanted to do now was keep moving and leave this universe as a distant memory.

"By the way Red, you should really know this." It was about time Fluttershy and the others finally told Red why they were here. "It's about Ash. We were hoping you could help us with something. Ash went to some place where the Primordial Magic is and we're hoping that nothing goes wrong. If something does, we'd like you and the others to be there."

"..."

"Some Antibodies wanna judge Ash, but we wanna show 'em that he can make it through this Prisma thing. If you, Ethan and the rest work together and show 'em that, then he'll be alright." Applejack elaborated. "So we'd be mighty grateful if ya help us out, Red."

"..." Red gave a thumbs up. He had no problem helping out Ash. After all, they were counterparts, so they had to look out for each other.

"Good! You'll be a great help, Red." Rarity smiled. Now that they had Red on their side, the group was prepared for whatever was going to be thrown their way. With him, they'd be able to get past the Antibodies judgement. At least, they believed so.

"Alright. Now that we've got Red on board, we can focus on the others. But first, let's head back home...I'm tired from hopping universes." Rainbow Dash yawned.

"Mhm. I need to check up on my Pokemon too." Fluttershy added. Pinkie Pie nodded, having been wanting to do so for a while. They could pause their Universal Trip for a bit just to head back home. They needed the rest anyways. Little did they know that Ash and Twilight had returned from the Primordial Magic and once they return to their universe, they would soon find out.

The Human World.

Twilight Wish and Sci-Twi had done it. They have succeeded in transforming their souls just to conceal themselves and hide from Twilight Luminaria and the Arcane Institute. After having Dusknoir shove the Shift Stone into both of their chests, they were able to pull it off successfully.

"Well, it worked. But we'll get the full results once we find out if the Arcane Institute struggles to find us." Wish said to Sci-Twi. "If they come after us, that means they know where we are. If they don't, we're in the clear."

"Okay. Let's hope they can't find us." Sci-Twi sighed.

"All that's left is the Original Twilight. When I went over to Equestria, I had a chat with Princess Celestia for a little while, telling her all about the Arcane Institute being on the move again. She'll tell the other universes so we'll have extra protection, no doubt about it." Twilight Wish ensured.

"Hah...That's good to know." Sci-Twi lowered her head when hearing that. A true relief with all that support. "Alright. Now that that's out of the way, I think I'll-"

"Kub. Kubfu!" Interrupting her was Kubfu, who tugged would nudge her leg. "Kub! Kub!" She was a bit surprised as she picked the Pokemon up in her arms.

"What is it?"

"Kubfu! Kub!"

"Oh. Right. I guess we'll train instead of doing anything else." Sci-Twi smiled. She did agree to help Kubfu with his training and to eventually make him into the Pokemon he wanted to be. Sci-Twi placed her hand on the Pokemon, giving him a reassuring pat on the head.

"Kub!"

"Uh, if you need me for something, I'll be a bit busy with Kubfu.

"That's fine. I've got some stuff I need to do as well. I'll be back in a bit. Don't worry about anything. I'll be fine." Twilight Wish nodded, heading back to her castle to take care of things. However, her curiosity was always something to get the better of her. She was feeling a bit adventurous at the moment. "But...exploring here wouldn't hurt one bit

While Wish was heading back to the Dream Castle, Sci-Twi booked it back to the park, where they were gonna be training. With enough clear space, Kubfu could train to his heart's content without having to worry about anyone getting in the way or interrupting him.

More recently, Sci-Twi's been dedicated to training Kubfu more now that most of her worries have been dealt with. It allowed her to make more progress with the Fighting-Type and by extension, Bulbasaur as well. Both Pon from the Isle of Armor she received were getting all the training they needed and today would be no different. Sci-Twi was going to make sure they were going to get even stronger.

Kubfu was already in the middle of his own personal training, jumping and punching the air while also running around. He did these on a daily basis. Even when there was nothing to do, he'd train his hardest. He'd keep training and training even when he felt like he'd be ready to collapse. He was dedicated to his training and wanted to reach a level of strength that would make him feel satisfied.

"Ku! Fu!" He'd keep punching and kicking the air. He kept up his training, not stopping whatsoever. His body was starting to ache and he was sweating a lot but he wasn't going to stop at all.

"Well done, Kubfu." Sci-Twi watched him, impressed by Kubfu's dedication to his training. "Alright. Let's try something else. How about...we focus on your speed next? I think Rapidash can help with that." Digging into her pockets, Sci-Twi pulled out her Pokeballs. "I think I'll use...this one." She picked up one of her Pokeballs, throwing it.

"Rapidash!" Rapidash was ready to help out. She'd do whatever she can to assist Sci-Twi with training her Pokemon.

"Rapidash. Mind helping Kubfu out? I'd like to improve his speed." She told her, requesting Rapidash's assistance.

"Dash." She nodded in response, willing to do so.

"Great." Sci-Twi turned to Kubfu. "Alright, we're gonna have you race Rapidash. I wanna see if you can catch her. A whole lap around the park."

"Ku..." Kubfu looked up at Rapidash. "Kubfu." He nodded, accepting this training.

"Good luck, Kubfu." Sci-Twi smiled. She took a deep breath and raised her arm. Once she brought her arm down, that was gonna be the signal to begin. Kubfu and Rapidash were getting ready for the race, both of them prepared to go at any second. Sci-Twi's heart was racing, excited for this training.

"Ku!"

"Dash!"

"Alright...! Go!"

She swung her arm downwards, signalling the start of the race. With the race having begun, Rapidash was the first one to run. With her hooves stomping the ground, her natural speed kicking in as always.

"Kubfu! Kubfu!" Kubfu kept trying to keep up with her. Naturally, this was a difficult task considering how fast Rapidash naturally are. However, this was the point. Sci-Twi knew that Kubfu wouldn't be able to catch up but she wanted to see if he could keep pace at the very least. So far, he was doing rather well, having already completed half a lap.

"Come on, Kubfu! Keep going! You can catch her!" Sci-Twi cheered him on, wanting to see him succeed in this training. She was rooting for Kubfu to catch her, to be faster than Rapidash and complete the lap, but Kubfu was only a child and Rapidash had a massive advantage over him in terms of speed and size. He had to keep up the best that he could, even when she was so far ahead of him.

"Ku!" Kubfu kept pushing. He wasn't gonna give up. He was going to complete this training, no matter what. He wasn't going to stop, even as he was panting and running out of breath. He was pushing himself past his limits. Sci-Twi was impressed, not even seeing him slow down.

"Dash, Dash!" Rapidash saw that Kubfu was gaining on her. To see him improve like that was rather satisfying to her. She could see how much effort he was putting into this. It made her smile as she kept running. Eventually, they both finished the lap. Rapidash was the first one to finish and Kubfu was second. He was out of breath, panting and sweating from the run. But he was satisfied with his performance, having pushed himself to his limits.

"Kub...fu..." He was exhausted, but it was worth it. Sci-Twi ran up to him, picking him and hugging him. "You did a great job! I'm so proud of you!" She was happy that he was improving. She knew that Kubfu was gonna get stronger and she was going to make sure that happened.

"Ku..." He smiled, happy to hear that. Sci-Twi then turned to Rapidash, who was also panting from the run. She had to admit, it was a nice workout for her.

"Thanks, Rapidash. You did a great job helping Kubfu." Sci-Twi thanked her, giving her a pat on the neck.

"Dash." Rapidash nodded, happy to have helped.

"Kubfu!" However, Kubfu wanted to continue training, wanting no rest at the moment. He was ready to keep going. Sci-Twi saw this and was impressed by his drive.

"Again? I figured you'd want to rest first." She said, but she could tell that he was determined. "Alright. Let's do something else. Your physical strength isn't something I have to think about too much...so how about we improve on something else? Maybe we can try...

"Fu! Kubfu!" Kubfu already knew what he wanted to improve. By hitting his own chest, he made it loud and clear.

"You want to focus on defense?" Sci-Twi asked, to which Kubfu nodded. "Alright. I think we can do that. But how should we go about doing it...hm..." Sci-Twi began thinking of ways to improve his defensive capabilities. It was something she never really thought of before.

"Need help?" Twilight Wish would suddenly appear behind Sci-Twi, startling her. She jumped back, surprised by her sudden appearance. "Oh, sorry. Didn't mean to startle you. I have a habit of showing up from behind."

"Ah...no, it's fine." Sci-Twi sighed, relieved that it was just her. She then looked down, thinking about what she could do to improve Kubfu's defensive capabilities.

"Need help with building defence? I can help with that." Twilight Wish smiled. "I've got a few ideas on how to improve his defence. You can try a few of them out."

"Really?"

"Yeah. Here, let me show you." Twilight Wish walked over, ready to help Sci-Twi. "First, you should try and get him used to being hit. He needs to be able to take a punch. Then, he needs to learn how to block. After that, you can teach him how to counter."

"That's what I was worried about. I didn't want to hurt Kubfu in any way but...I can't think of anything else." Sci-Twi nodded. "But who's gonna hit him?"

"Any Pokemon will do. Here, I'll take a shot at it." Twilight Wish stepped back, digging into her pockets for her Poke Ball. "Appear! Meowscarada!"

"Meowscarada!" Meowscarada appeared from the Pokeball. She was ready to assist Twilight Wish.

"Don't worry. Meowscarada won't goo too hard on him." Twilight assured Sci-Twi, who was still a bit concerned.

"Alright..." Sci-Twi turned to Kubfu. "Are you ready?"

"Kub! Fu!" He nodded, getting into position. Meowscarada did the same, preparing to attack. Twilight Wish gave the command for her to start.

"Alright! Use Leaf Storm!

"Meow...!" By raising her arms, they let out a beautiful green glow, creating a storm of leaves that would be launched towards Kubfu. Kubfu prepared himself, flexing his body

"Ku...!" The attack struck him dead on. Kubfu groaned as he could feel all those leaves rapidly strike his body from every angle. It was a lot of pressure on him as the Leaf Storm started lifting his body off the ground. "Kub..." However, he wasn't gonna let it get the better of him. He was going to endure the attack. So with all the strength he had, he planted his feet onto the ground.

"Keep going, Kubfu! You can do it!" Sci-Twi encouraged him. She was rooting for him, hoping that he'd be able to endure the attack. He was doing a good job so far, having already endured most of the Leaf Storm. However, he reached his limit as the Leaf Storm eventually managed to pick him up, spiralling hs body.

"Kubfuuuuu!" He cried out while being spun around in the air before it eventually stopped and sent him flying. "Fu!" Sci-Twi caught him in her arms, preventing him from hitting the ground. Kubfu was a little dizzy, having been spun around like that. However, he was still able to stand on his own two feet. He got out of Sci-Twi's arms, landing on his feet.

"You okay, Kubfu?"

"Ku..." He shook his head, getting the dizziness out of his system. "Fu!"

"Sorry about that!" Twilight Wish cried out whilst Meowscarada scratched the back of her head, feeling guilty that she hit Kubfu too hard. Sci-Twi just smiled and waved her hand.

"It's okay. He's fine. Right, Kubfu?" She asked, to which he nodded in response.

"Kub!"

"I think he's a bit too small to be taking attacks that big right now." Twilight Wish said. "He needs to get stronger first. Then, we can try again."

"You're right. Just a bit more and he'll be able to take on bigger attacks. We can start small instead. A shame most of my Pokemon are Alpha Pokemon though." Sci-Tw lowered her head. That was one disadvantage of having Alpha Pokemon. They were naturally very strong. However, the only exceptions were Bulbasaur and Hisuian Zorua, but Zorua was far too shy to do much.

"Kb! Kubfu!" Kubfu tugged at Sci-Twi's shirt, having a suggestion. There was one thing he wanted to try out. Or one person he wanted to practice against.

"Hm? What is it?" Sci-Twi asked.

"Ah, I see. You want to meet someone, don't you?" Twilight Wish understood him clearly, waltzing over. Kubfu confirmed thi, crying out the name of the person he wished to meet. "Someone named Bea?"

"You can understand him?" Sci-Twi asked, surprised. She was never able to do so.

"Yep. I can talk to Pokemon. It's a special skill of mine I picked up back in my universe." Twilight Wish smiled. "But yeah, we can meet her. Whover she is."

"I know who Bea is. All the way over at Galar...Are you sure, Kubfu?"

"Kub!" 100% he was certain. And it made sense. Bea was the Fighting-Type expert after all and that brief interaction she had with Kubfu showed him everything about her. It was enough to make him want to train under her.

"I guess getting help from a Fighting-Type expert makes sense...Plus, Bea did say she's been to the Isle of Armor a few times." Sci-Twi saw where Kubfu was coming from.

"Need to make a stop at Galar? No problem. Let me sort that out for you." Instead of walking there, Twilight Wish had an easy solution for that via another one of her specialities. She placed her hand on Sci-Twi's shoulder, closing her eyes. Her eyes glowed and soon enough, they were all enveloped in a bright, purple glow. "I wish, I wish, I wish." Speaking her usual spell, she was able to teleport them all away from this very spot.

Sci-Twi's eyes were incredibly wide as she felt the acceleration through space itself, her entire body moving at the speed of light as they travelled to Galar. In a matter of seconds, they were gone, travelling across the entire planet in a single instant. It was as if they were a light ray shooting across the planet, travelling to their destination.

Galar. The Wild Area. Afternoon.

"..." They arrived in a single second. It took less than a second, which left Sci-Twi completely flabbergasted. She couldn't believe that Twilight Wish had teleported them all the way to Galar with ease. "We're in Galar...That easily?!"

...Pffaaaa...!" After doing so, Twilight Wish's head would start smoking as she stumbled a bit, falling on her back. "Ah, geez...I'm still getting the hang of this..."

"Are you alright?!" Sci-Twi helped Twilight Wish back on her feet.

"Sorry...I've been working on improving my Teleporation. I figured out a way to travel to another universe, but it takes a lot out of me..."

Twilight Wish would be out of commission for a while after the teleportation. It was exhausting and it would take some time to get back on her feet. But it was worth it if she wanted to help Sci-Twi.

After travelling a bit, Sci-Twi and Twilight WIsh found themselves at Stow-on-Side. Finding Bea wouldn't be an issue, her location was already well-known. And if they couldn't find her here, they could always head to SugarCube Corner over at Equestria and find her there. Thankfully, she was indeed present, specifically at the dojo she uses. As soon as they entered the dojo, they were met by the familiar face of Bea.

"Bea!" Sci-Twi called out, getting her attention. "I'm sorry, we know you're training, but Kubfu wanted to see you." She showed her the Pokemon.

"Ku! Fu!"

"You two. And...another one of you?" Bea raised an eyebrow, locking onto Twilight Wish, who currently had a dumbfounded face due to exerting so much magic.

"Ehehehehe...." Twilight WIsh laughed with that expression, waving her hand. She was a bit dizzy, but she was alright. Sci-Twi explained the situation.

"Bea, I need to ask a favour from you." She got straight to the point. "Kubfu wanted to see you to continue his training. We did a bit of it earlier. First speed and then durability. Right now, Kubfu feels like he could improve his durability if he trains with you so..."

"Hm. I see. You came all the way here for that." Bea would halt everything she was doing. "Well, I'm not one to turn down a chance to train or even train someone else. I assume you've been doing a good job at training Kubfu, right? You've gotten over everything to give him more attention?"

"Yeah. I have. Now, I can focus on training him way more without anything getting in the way." Sci-Twi smiled. "But he wanted to train with you for his defense. Could you pull that off? You're the expert."

"You couldn't find a way to pull it off on your own?"

"Well, I can. I figured that Bulbasaur would do since his attacks wouldn't be as heavy. Most of my Pokemon just hit too hard for Kubfu to handle it for long I'm afraid. If I had Bulbasaur do it, then both of them would grow stronger from it. But Kubfu really wanted to train with you."

Bea would look at Kubfu and Sci-Twi. Both of them wanted her to help him, especially with her expertise. She thought it over for a bit. It wasn't a bad idea. No harm done after all.

"...Fine. I'll help." She agreed. Sci-Twi and Kubfu both smiled, glad that she agreed. Kubfu was over the moon for this. "However, I' won't do simple training with you. Not at all."

"Eh? What do you mean?"

"I personally want to see how much you've improved Twilight. You've got a lot going for you, especially with the whole Prisma thing being an issue that could come up. Next to that and helping Kubfu grow, I'll train you...by battling you. A 1 versus 1 Battle." Bea pointed at her, declaring a Pokemon Battle with Sci-Twi.

"Wait, what?!" Sci-Twi didn't expect a Pokemon battle to be a part of this. Instead of finding herself in a regular training session, Sci-Twi was now roped into a Pokemon Battle with Bea of all people. Naturally, she was greatly intimidated by this. Bea was a force to be reckoned with. She was in the World Championships too, which made her all the more powerful.

While Sci-Twi was intimidated by this, Kubfu was looking forward to this and he wasn't about to let this golden moment slide. The glutton for battle and the one who takes a careful route were about to challenge the Gym Leader Bea as the journey continues.
