Epilogue: Towards a Bright Future

Previous Chapter

Sombra, Radiant, Fluttershy, and Seras found that the next two days were definitely interesting, in the sense that they had more opportunities to speak with the various species that were now connected to Equus, like how Spike was now one of the greatest magic users of the world he had been sent to. Ember had been sent with him and they came back with a whole list of species that were united in their preparations and were willing to stand together, as a single front, against the darkness that lingered in their universe. This included the other dragons that weren't dracthyr, because there were painters, sculptors, musicians, a barista, warriors of different degrees, wizards who listened to Spike, dragons that tended to beasts, mechanics, and even ones connected to dreams. In fact there was a rabbit that was as tall as Spike was, two cheetahs standing by her, a being that looked like a cross between a faun and a dragon, and many more, and that wasn't counting all of the others that they talked to since returning to Equus.

It became quite clear that Twilight had far more than a group of Time Wardens and her Alternates available to her, in fact it was clear to Sombra that she was the leader of an entire armada, a fleet of space ships ready to warp in at a moment's notice, just waiting for when it was time to declare war on the demonic empire.

Sombra found that there were two methods to the empire's assaults, as Twilight had been spending her time peering into the past, observing all of the previous worlds that had been conquered by the demons, and using that information to make her preparations accordingly. Those methods, as it turned out, were to either launch a sneak attack and wipe out the vast majority of the defenders in a single day, and Twilight confirmed it multiple times by observing multiple planets, or they simply declared war on a world, gave them a few days to gather their defenders, and then crushed them. Twilight reported that it purely depended on the demon in charge of the empire, some were more focused on conquest and preferred the ambush, while others preferred to be more honorable and give their enemies a chance to defend themselves. Based on the information she had obtained so far it looked like they were dealing with the latter, a ruler that wanted his enemies to bring all of their warriors to bare against them, and that wasn't even a guess, not when she peered into the present to see which type of ruler was in control of the empire.

This meant they had time and she wanted to make sure everyone was ready, they just had a few more displaced to find and recover before the demons arrived, so it was a matter of being patient, even though Sombra knew Twilight had her own plan in mind for when it was time to wage war.

She also discovered that the others were widely accepted into the forces without delay, the army that was training on one of the other worlds, of which there happened to be many in their armada, was always happy to meet new people, get to know them, and then help them catch up with their training. They also found out that the Crystal Empire was leaderless as well, as both Princess Cadance and Prince Shining Armor were gone, apparently they were displaced as well, as they and one of their guards went looking for their lost daughter, the natural born alicorn called Flurry Heart. Such a thing prompted them to find out that Flurry had already returned and she was like a goddess in her own manner, in fact she was standing next to the big buff warrior with red markings, who seemed happy whenever she was nearby, and that told Sombra all she needed to know at the moment. That wasn't counting the other figures that were near her at one point, all gods and goddesses in their own right, which explained the sheer power that was coming from her, but Sombra found that it was a good thing since it meant she would be ready for when the war finally arrived.

The only ones that Sombra was interested in meeting were Spitfire and Rainbow Dash, both of them being attractive figures, much like her and Fluttershy she realized, where the latter was infused with demonic energy, the Fel energy from the Legion that the pair had fought, she had a pair of leathery bat wings, and she had horns, one like an alicorn's and two that made her look like a demon.

"I usually look more demonic than this. Twilight helped me figure out how to seal my Fel power, giving me a base form and my 'Fel Incarnate' form." Rainbow said, speaking to Fluttershy since they were old friends and she was interested in catching up with her friend, especially since both of them had been on interesting adventures and part of her was very eager to clash with Fluttershy at some point since she was strong and wasn't a coward anymore, "Still haven't been able to overcome the power that Spitfire has, since she's connected to all six Cosmic Forces."

"Still, it was worth the power to wield the powers of the Arcane, Light, Life, Death, Fel, and the Void in a single body." Spitfire remarked, and yet Sombra found that she was calm, despite the warring powers that were housed in her body, as if she was in full control of the six powers, which Twilight had confirmed after learning about these powers and what each of them were capable of, "That reminds me: Sombra, Radiant Hope, the Pantheon of Death have, with some bickering, decided to grant your requests. They're expecting you in the morning, our time anyway."

"Radiant, you don't have to do this." Sombra stated, as this was her task and hers alone, she needed to make sure Tenebris was punished accordingly and she needed to focus on resolving some of her sins, something that Radiant would likely be very bored with if she followed her into Revendreth, while the rest of their friends were partly surprised by this.

"Sombra, I followed you into darkness, through time, across space, and fought by your side as we faced the literal end of the World... the Realms of Death don't scare me." Radiant replied, where she leaned against Sombra for a moment, because while it had been a wild and unexpected adventure, one she could have never dreamed of before she met Sombra, and yet she would do it all again, if it meant she'd be with Sombra, especially since it looked like Riku's crush on her friend had gone away over the years, "Besides, you'll need someone to support you when you start your sessions, and I'll be there to make sure you have all the positive support you could possibly need, since the Harvesters in Revendreth are supposed to be very tough on the souls that are sent to them."

"And don't worry about the lessons revolving around the Hungering Maw, I'll come to you for them." Twilight commented, as most of the displaced were present right now, those that had come home anyway, though once again she had a smile on her face as she let the dark relic float around her, "Oh, by the way, I realized that you guys make contact with both Solarion and Nightfell, the mythical weapons of Princess Celestia and Princess Luna, even though for us they rushed off planet about two weeks ago. So, with that in mind, I opened a space-time portal and linked our point in time to when you saw them, and then when you sent them flying I returned them to the present with the directions you gave them... I'm using them to locate both of the Princesses, but it should be some time before they reach their intended destinations."

Sombra remained silent as she heard that, as her focus was more on what sort of powers the Solar and Lunar Princesses might unlock during their own grand adventures, especially since they were already incredible in their own rights, so part of her was worried that they would be monsters upon their return. It also made her think about the rest of the missing, such as the rulers of the Crystal Empire and their guard, the pink one known as Pinkie Pie, someone called 'Vinyl Scratch', and also Discord, since no one had seen him since their return to Equus. The shocking thing was that not even Twilight knew what was up with the Spirit of Disharmony, there was no record of him actually being displaced like everyone else, but at the same time he's been missing for quite some time, leaving Sombra to assume he might be on Equus somewhere, just mopping over Fluttershy's absence. Of course that would only make sense if he had returned after their arrival, and yet it had been a few days and none of them had any new information on Discord, so she found that it was hard to actually confirm or deny what was going on with him.

Other than that there wasn't anything for her to worry about, other than Radiant refusing to step down on this matter, so once morning arrived both she and her companion stood in the outskirts of Ponyville, their friends behind them while they stared at the dark misty portal that Spitfire had opened for them.

"Here you two go, a portal leading straight to Orbos. Sire Denathrius will be waiting for you in Revendreth, to take you two to one of the Harvesters." Spitfire stated, where she glanced back at the pair for a moment and found that neither were going to step down, Sombra intended on reforming herself more than she had done in the three years she had been traveling with Sora's group, while Radiant was willing to follow her childhood friend, possibly even the love of her life, into the Realms of Death to support Sombra in her endeavor, "They have agreed to allow you some time off, if you want it, so you don't have to spend all of your time in the afterlife."

"Sombra... there's no talking you or Radiant out of this, is there?" Sora asked, because while part of him worried about the pair, since the Shadowlands seemed like a harsh place for a mortal to roam and explore, he suspected that they would be just fine, but he figured he'd ask the question before they disappeared for some time.

"No. Like I've said before, I need to do this." Sombra replied, though at the same time she held a hand out and let it rest on Sora's shoulder for a moment, with a smile on her face, because if this had been back during their first adventure she would have worried about him and the others, but now, after three long adventures and a war for the fate of the World, she knew she didn't have to worry about Sora, Riku, Kairi, Donald, Goofy, or the others, "Don't worry, we won't be gone long, especially with the time difference between realms... we'll be back in time to deal with the demonic empire. For now, you guys should focus on training with everyone else and keeping an eye on the rest of the World, since there's no telling what Maleficent or her cronies might do next."

Sora nodded as he and the others wished the pair well, causing Sombra and Radiant to turn towards the death portal and step through it, as it was time for them to wrap up a part of her life so she could focus on their training and preparations for the demonic empire, causing her to look forward to whatever the future had in store for them and their home world.
