“Come on Rainbow Dash, just tell him already,” the cyan Pegasus muttered under her breath. “You can do it. Wait, no I can’t. He’s a Wonderbolt for crying out loud. He’ll never understand. But you love him, and he loves you. I’m sure he’ll understand, right? Oh, Celestia… I’m so nervous! I can’t do this!”

“Are you okay, Rainbow Dash?”

Rainbow could only sigh in response. “Yeah, I’m fine,” she replied, forcing a smile. “Just first date jitters is all.”

Soarin frowned as he looked straight at the mare flying beside him, knowing that something was wrong with her. “You sure about that?” he asked. “I heard you talking to yourself just now. Is everything okay?”

“I guess I’m just nervous,” she said with a nod. “This is my very first date, after all.”

Soarin smiled and gently pulled her closer. “Don’t worry,” he reassured her. “Everypony gets nervous on their first date. It’s okay.”

“You’re right,” she said, smiling as she kissed his cheek. “And there’s nothing to worry about. This date is gonna be awesome!”

“It will be,” he said. “I’ve already planned the whole day for us. First, we’ll get lunch, then we’ll go see a movie, and finally… we’ll go stargazing. Does that, uh, sound good?”

“Soarin,” Rainbow said, her eyes welling up with tears of joy. “You just made me the happiest pony alive. It’s perfect! Lunch, a movie, and stargazing sounds awesome.”

“I’m glad you like that.”

“Why wouldn’t I like it? It’s how I imagined my first date to be like!”

Soarin smiled and held his marefriend’s hoof as they flew down towards Ponyville. He had to admit: he loved spending time with Rainbow even before they became a couple. Ever since she joined the Wonderbolts, Rainbow and Soarin had become such good friends. They had a lot in common: if she liked to read, then so did he. It was like they were made for each other, and they definitely were a match made in heaven.

And at this moment, Soarin was going to prove that he and Rainbow were a perfect match and that they belonged together.

The two ponies landed in the middle of Ponyville and walked in the direction of the Hay Burger. To their surprise, there was no line outside the door, and they both breathed a sigh of relief. The Hay Burger wasn’t busy at the moment; in fact, it just opened a few minutes ago.

“Looks like we got here the moment they opened,” Rainbow said.

“Yeah, that’s nice,” Soarin said, smiling at his marefriend. “And we’ll have some peace and quiet. Now come on, let’s eat!”

Rainbow grinned and held his hoof as they walked into the restaurant. She was definitely starving, so a hay burger with a side of fries would be exactly what she needed to satisfy her hunger.

“Soarin, I’m so happy we decided to go out today.”

“Me too. This is the most fun I’ve ever had with somepony in my entire life.”

Rainbow smiled and took a bite of her burger. “And the hay burgers are so tasty,” she added. “I don’t think I want to eat anywhere else but here.”

“I agree,” Soarin said. “This has to my favorite place to eat in Ponyville.”

“Mine too.” She kissed his cheek, making him blush. She was having so much fun with Soarin that she didn’t want their date to end. No. Not at all. Not ever.

“So, uh, what movie did you have in mind?” she asked.

“Oh, I was thinking about us going to see a Daring Do movie,” he replied, winking at her. “You like Daring Do?”

“Duh. I love Daring Do!” Rainbow said, rolling her eyes. “That’s a dumb question you asked, but hey, I ask questions like that too.”

“So do you want to go see it?”

“Of course!” Rainbow wrapped her forelegs around his neck. “How about we finish our lunch and then be on our way?” she asked. “I’m so excited!”

“Or we could take our time,” he offered. “Besides, the last movie showing isn’t until later tonight.”

“You’re right,” Rainbow chuckled as she pulled away and took another bite of her burger. “Let’s, uh, let’s just enjoy our lunch,” she said. “After all, the purpose of a date is to spend lots of time together and enjoy ourselves.”

Soarin nodded and took a bite of his burger. “I couldn’t agree more,” he said. “But I’m already having so much fun with you.”

“Me too, big guy. Me too.”

Once the two Pegasi were done with their lunch, they decided that it was time to go to the movies. Rainbow had insisted that she buy the tickets, but Soarin wanted to pay for them. Not wanting to argue with the stallion of her dreams, she decided to let him pay for the tickets.

“You pay for the tickets, I’ll pay for the snacks,” she said.

“Deal,” he said, grinning at her.

Rainbow nodded and held his hoof as they walked into the theater. To their surprise, the theater was quite small, but that didn’t bother them. In fact, it was perfect: one large theater screen and comfortable seating was all that they needed. And there was nopony else in the theater either. Just them, which meant they had peace and quiet for the second time in a row.

“Wow, I’m surprised that there’s nopony else here,” Rainbow said, looking around.

“Yeah, it’s nice,” Soarin said. “It’s like Equestria knew that we were going on a date today.”

“Equestria must have a kind heart.” With a smile, Rainbow sat down next to Soarin and kissed his cheek. “Y’know what?” she asked.

“What?” he said.

“We don’t need snacks,” she replied. “We just ate! Let’s just sit here and enjoy the movie.”

“You sure you don’t want a drink though? I tend to get very thirsty during a movie, and that’s a fact!”

“Ah, I see! Well, I’ll tell you what… I’ll buy a large soda for us to share, and you can pick the perfect spot for stargazing.”

“Sounds awesome.” Soarin kissed his marefriend on the cheek. “I promise I’ll pick the perfect, awesome, and unforgettable spot,” he whispered.

“You’re so sappy,” she teased. “I love that about you. Now, about that soda… I’ll be right back!”

Rainbow got up from her seat and headed towards the back of the theater to buy the large soda she promised him. Soarin let out a sigh and leaned back; he was having so much fun with the rainbow maned Pegasus, and he didn’t want their date to end. But unfortunately, he knew that their date had to end at some point. That was why he decided to save stargazing till the end: he wanted this date to be absolutely perfect, but little did he know that this date was already perfect as it was.

Rainbow seemed to be enjoying their date more than he was, and so far, nothing went wrong, and that was good.

Everything was perfect.

”Wait until she sees what I’ve got planned after our date,” he thought to himself. ”I know she’ll love it.”

That night, Rainbow and Soarin had found the perfect spot for stargazing. The two Pegasi sat on the grass together, watching the sun go down. Soon, stars began to appear in the sky, and Rainbow stared up at them in awe and excitement.

“Wow,” she whispered. “This is incredible! I never thought that stargazing could be-“

“So awesome,” he said, making her chuckle.

“Yeah… you took the words right out of my mouth, Soarin,” she teased. “But I gotta hand it to you… this was the awesomest first date I’ve ever had!”

“I’m glad you had a good time!” he said, grinning at her. “To be honest, I was very nervous about this date.”

“What do you mean?”

“Well, after my last date with Spitfire, it didn’t go so well, so I was afraid that you-“

“Stop that.” Rainbow placed her hoof over his mouth, silencing him. “Stop that now,” she said, staring into his eyes. “I had so much fun with you today, Soarin. Why would you think otherwise? I’m not like Spitfire at all.”

“I know,” Soarin said, looking down. “So, uh… I didn’t buck anything up, did I?”

“Absolutely not!” Rainbow replied, kissing him on the cheek. “You did not buck anything up today, Soarin. You did an awesome job planning our date, and I think we should do this again.”

“Really?” A wide grin appeared on Soarin’s face.

“Duh. If I didn’t have that much fun, I wouldn’t be saying that, now would I?”

“No no, you’re right.” Soarin chuckled and pulled Rainbow close. “But y’know what?” he asked.

“What?” she said, looking up at him.

“I’ve found the mare I want to spend every day of my life with,” he replied. “And I mean that from the bottom of my heart.”

“So… you really love me?” Rainbow gasped, her eyes welling up with tears. “Like you want me to be your special somepony?”

“Yup,” Soarin replied, wiping his marefriend’s tears away. “So what do you say? Will you be my special somepony, Rainbow Dash?”

“Of course I will!” Rainbow wrapped her forelegs around his neck and pressed her lips against his, sighing as he ran his hooves through her multicolored mane and up and down her back. Slowly, her wings opened and flapped as she lost herself in his warm, loving embrace.

“Hey Crash, you got a moment? I wanted to talk to you about- Oh, Celestia! What’s going on here? Did I… interrupt something?

Startled, the two ponies broke apart and turned around, shocked expressions plastered on their faces at who they saw.

It was the captain of the Wonderbolts herself: Spitfire. And she looked completely shocked at what she just witnessed.

It was at this moment that Soarin and Rainbow knew…

…that they’ve been found out.
