Scootaloo becomes obsessed with the new card game Twilight has invented: Cruel Critters. However, she based this game on mythical creatures from centuries ago, and a fable of vicious battles between such creatures and their masters. After Scootaloo and Diamond Tiara get their hooves on ancient artifacts that possess an unknown power, the battle for true power will begin, and this seemingly harmless card game will become something much more than a fable.
