In the year 1950, Equestria made contact with Earth. The United States Government found the portal that the Equestrians made and proceeded to keep Equestria a secret.

Princess Celestia quickly realized that Earth and humanity posed a possible threat. She knew there were good humans, but there were also humans who might try to dominate Equestria for their interests. So, in response to this, she created a new department of the Equestrian government.

The Equestrian Department of Intelligence Collection and Transfer, otherwise known as EDICT. EDICT's original job was to collect intel on humans, everything from their diets to politics. But EDICT's power grew over time, and it came to have a strategic role in defending the Equestrian homeland.

But on the 1000th Summer Sun Celebration, a new part of Equestria's defense plan came about. The Elements of Harmony. The most powerful magical artifacts in existence. A collection of five necklaces and one tiara, wielded by six mares. The Elements could defeat anything with the Magic of Friendship.

Under the direction of EDICT's current director, Sword Pierce, the first pony-human hybrid (also one of the only hybrids). It was EDICT's duty to protect the Element bearers for the sake of Equestria.

Their job was sadly made harder, as the bearers seemed to have a knack for getting themselves into trouble.
