Thunder Struck
Chapter 15.
Previous ChapterRainbow Dash stepped out of Fluttershy’s parents house with her head down. She began walking down the cottony cloud street. If anyone who knew her recognized her and saw her walking instead of using her wings, they’d surely know something was wrong. Rainbow used her wings even in the most trying of times.
‘What now?’ she thought to herself. Rainbow had no idea what to do with herself. Fluttershy had bolted as soon as she had told her what had happened with Anon. She didn’t even waste time on chastising her, she just left as if Anon was in life threatening danger at this very moment. But that danger…had passed.
As Rainbow walked and contemplated her situation, she took some time to reminisce about the city she had grown up in.
‘How long has it been since I’ve last been to Cloudsdale?’ It had been a few months at least. Rainbow Dash much preferred living in Ponyville than Cloudsdale, though she couldn’t really put her hoof on why. The skies were her element, so naturally she’d be drawn to live in a community built in said sky. And yet when she had first stumbled upon that quaint little town on the ground, she’d been drawn to it. Of course she’d fashioned a home in the sky, she wasn’t going to go THAT native.
Rainbow had developed many more good memories in Ponyville than she had in Cloudsdale. In Cloudsdale, Rainbow had had to deal with her childhood bullies, at least up until the young fliers competition. In Ponyville, Rainbow had been the head of the weather team, as opposed to having to work in the weather factory (which now might be one of her only options). And Ponyville had her friends, while Cloudsdale only had…her parents.
‘My parents….’ She thought to herself. ‘Maybe I should…no they’re so-! But maybe….’ Rainbow knew that if anyone in the world would see her side of things, it would be her parents. They had always been supportive of practically everything she’d ever done. Perhaps they were TOO supportive, but they’d listen to her, right?
Rainbow hadn’t seen her parents in quite a while, aided partially by the fact that she had ‘forgot’ to tell them where she was living. She just didn’t want them showing up unannounced and embarrassing her in front of her friends, or the others in Ponyville. But it seemed that now was the time to visit them once again.
With her decision made, Dash took to the air and flew in the direction of her parents house. As she did, a bit of apprehension worked its way inside her. Her parents always came on a bit strong when it came to just how much they loved her, which she didn’t appreciate at the best of times. But this was arguably the worst of times, even worse than having to do battle against a threat to Equestria.
Several minutes passed before Rainbow touched down softly on the doorstep to her parents’ house. She steeled herself and knocked on the door. The door was opened by her mother Windy Whistles, who upon seeing her daughter, lit up like a child meeting their favorite celebrity for the first time.
“Dashie!” she cried out, wrapping her daughter in an abrasively tight hug. “It’s been Ninety-Two Days, Fifteen hours, 47 minutes and eight seconds since we saw you last!” Before she could even attempt to suck in a breath, her father Bow Hothoof, bolted down the stairs.
“Is that our Rainbow?” he questioned. Upon seeing the two mares in his family hugging, he quickly joined in and squeezed the both of them tight. If Rainbow couldn’t breathe before, the wind was absolutely squeezed out of her lungs now.
“C-can’t…breath….” She gasped. Her parents released their abrasive embrace.
“Sorry hun, it’s just so good to see you! It’s been forever!” apologized her father. After getting her bearings, Rainbow straightened herself up.
“It’s cool, just warn me next time.”
“So, what brings you back home?” Windy asked, not missing a beat.
“Well, actually…I wanted to talk to you guys about something.”
“Oh, let me guess, you’re finally joining the Wonderbolts!” suggested Windy.
“Oh, you’re becoming the CAPTAIN of the Wonderbolts!” exclaimed Bow.
‘Geez, I’m great and all, but even I can’t just become Captain of the Wonderbolts overnight,’ Rainbow thought to herself. ‘The Wonderbolts….’ Rainbows ears fell as her face formed a dour look.
“No…I need to tell you guys something.”
Rainbows parents had brought her to the living room upon seeing the apprehension on their daughters face. She was acting like a foal who knew they had done something wrong. But she couldn’t have done anything wrong! She’s the Rainbow Dash after all!
The two had almost never seen their daughter act this way, not since she had first gotten her mark. So the two had matched the uncharacteristic manner of their daughter with equally unusual serious tact. They all sat down and listened to what Rainbow had to say. When she had finished, the two were stunned into silence. Rainbow looked at them nervously.
“I can’t believe it,” muttered Bow.
“Y-yeah, that’s what…that’s what happened,” replied Rainbow as she shied away into her seat.
“Of all the nerve…” Rainbow hadn’t expected that from her mother, but knew she deserved it. “Banning you from joining the Wonderbolts!? Who does she think she is?!”
“I kno-wait what?” questioned Rainbow, utterly lost.
“Exactly!” joined in her father. “What gives Celestia the right to tell OUR daughter, RAINBOW DASH that she isn’t allowed to join the Wonderbolts? Because of an honest mistake? That’s been her dream since she was a filly! What right does that, that TYRANT have to take it away?”
“Well, I…I mean I don’t think she’s a tyrant….”
Rainbows parents quickly bolted to her side and once again wrapped her up in a tight, yet gentle embrace.
“You must be devastated!” exclaimed her mother.
“But don’t you worry! We’re gonna fix this! I’m gonna…I’m gonna…WRITE A LETTER! To the Princess herself DEMANDING she let you back into the Wonderbolts!” declared her father.
“I never actually was a Wonderbolt.”
“Once mistake shouldn’t dictate our Dashie’s life. After all, she’s a national hero!” asserted Windy.
“Well, yeah but-“
“She stopped Nightmare Moon and Discord!” Bow stated.
“Hey, yeah!”
“She’s the first Pegasus to ever perform a sonic rainboom!” claimed Windy.
“Yeah, I was!” exclaimed Rainbow.
“She DESERVES to be a Wonderbolt!” roared Bow.
“And if they won’t let her in, she can just make a BETTER team of fliers!” suggested Windy.
“Yeah! A better team!- a better team?” questioned Rainbow.
“Don’t you worry Rainbow, no daughter of ours is going to be told she can’t do something!” said Bow.
“And you can stay with us as long as you need to! We’ll be here for you!”
“T-thanks guys. It’s good to know I can always count on you.” In all the excitement, Rainbow had forgotten about the sickly guilty feeling in her stomach.
