Chapter 1 Enter the battle pit
It was spring break for the school of friendship all the students were saying their goodbyes and heading home. One griffin however was even more sad than any creature as he boarded the train all he could think about was all his friends going home to their family’s while there was nothing in griffonsdail waiting for him.
After getting of the train Gallus started to walk towards griffonsdail he stopped and wondered if he should even keep going. His whole life he was alone no family and until he started going to twilights school of friendship.
Suddenly before he even knew what was going on gallus was jumped and placed in a bag as he clawed and squirmed trying to get out, he could heir the two creatures say, "this one's a fighter good he’s going to need to be one for what we got in stored for him".
"you’re a lot smaller than we thought if you’re lucky maybe you’ll last longer than a minutes out there".
Gallus grabbed the bares and started to shake them screaming at them to let him out suddenly he heard a voice behind him.
"Even if you could break out, they would catch you and put you in another one trust me I’ve been here for a weak and they put me in four times" Gallus turned to see a blue earth pony with a white around his left eye and asked.
"Who are you where am I?
The blue earth pony looked at him and said, "my name is clutterstep and you’re in the battle pit".
"Battle pit is a fighting arena on an island outside of equestria their leader is a minotaur named iron gauntlet he gathers other creatures to fight in his arena".
"Then how do we get out of here? I’m not sticking around to be some two-legged cows' amusement"!
"Sorry kid I’ve tried and there are creatures that’s been here for years iron gantlet made sure of it".
"So were stuck here forever on this stupid island" gallus said as he kicked a rock at the cell wall.
"There is only one way to go free and that’s to beat his champion".
"Who’s this champion."
"I’ve never seen him all I know is he’s been here for a hundred years, and no one has left yet".
One of the guards walked up to their cell and said to them
"Congratulations bullseye the boss is sending you out there with a partner let's see if you can get lucky this time".
Clutterstep and gallus were taken to the arena a metal cage was surrounding it so no one could fly out. On the outside a bunch minitours and other creatures cheering along the walls and on the ground of the arena were chains and weapons. Gallus looked at clutterstep and asked,
"So, who are we up against" Clutterstep with a nerve's expression said to him.
"There's no way to know it could be anything". Both clutterstep and gallus looked at the gate at the end of the arena when it opened up out came a giant timber wolf three times the size of a normal one. Gallus slowly started to back away and asked clutterstep
"What are we going to do"?
"Fallow my lead" clutterstep said as he lifted one hoof up and shouted "ruuuuun".
Clutterstep ran for his life with gallus flying right behind him he flew right over the blue pony and asked.
"So, what do we do know" clutterstep looked up at the blue griffin and spoke.
"Run and stay alive" Gallus now angry with the blue pony shouted at him
"that's your" plan. Clutterstep with a smug grin on his face said to the griffin as he flew past clutterstep
"what its kept me alive this long"!
The timber wolf with his mouth opened wide with its fangs sticking out lunged at the two clutterstep not looking where he was going tripped on a broken piece on the arenas Flore as he did, he grabbed on to Galuses tail and pulled him down with him. The timber wolf missed the pony and griffon as it landed its front left leg snaped in two as the timber wolf stumbled trying to right itself it got its head stuck in the gap in the cage, they were in. Trying to get its head free from the cage but no matter how much it pulled it could not get free. Clutterstep turned to look at gallus and said while shrugging his shoulders and waving at the timber wolf.
"See I told you I had a plan".
As the two stood up they could hear the Croud boing at them the minotaur king smashed his fist on the arm rest of his stone throne and breaking it off. Iron gauntlet called to one of his solder's.
"zangef come here" the Yake with the eye patch walked up to the king.
"You called for me my lord" the Yake said knelling before him!
"I have had enough of that puny blue pony when he first got here, he was so scrawny I thought he wouldn't make it thought his first fight I even put him against the only thing we had that was as small as he was some tiny deer we found in the forest. I put him up against him because the deer had tried to escape the night before but that stupid pony wouldn't fight no matter what we did so we locked him in his cell for the next three days with no food to teach him a lessen but no matter what we do his stubbornness and dumb luck keeps pulling him ahead".
"You told me to use his kind hart agents him that he would be so worried about that young griffin that he wouldn't be watching out for himself, and the timber wolf would get him".
"I'm sorry my lord" said the Yake as he lowered his head the king looked at Clutterstep so angry flames nearly shot out his nostrils.
"that's it no more games for his next fight he will go against our champion and his new friend can join him".
Author's Note
This was my first attempt at a mlp fanfiction, and I couldn't think of a better place to start than with my favorite OC and my favorite griffin.

Gallus and clutterstep were taken back to their cell escorted by two guards one a Minatare who was holding two chains attached to collars around their necks. The other one was Zangefe carrying two bowls filled with questionable soup like substance and some bread. Zangefe handed the bowl to Gallus then walked over to clutterstep and dropped it straight on the ground with most of the soup spilling out Zangefe and the other guard laughed as they walked away.
"Wow what did you do to get this three hoof treatment"? Gallus asked as he lifted one eyebrow and gestured at the two guards who just left in confusion.
Zangefe is Iron gantlets right hoof Yake when I first got here, they put me up against this skinny dear I could tell he was weak from lack of food and was in enough fights so when I refused to fight him. As punishment for not obeying Iron gauntlets rules my next match was up against him".
the crowd of Minatare's all waved and cheered as Zangefe stood in the center of the ring the floor of the arena was c a smile on his face he loved too here the crowd cheering his name.
"Zangefe is strongest fighter in all equstria no creature can stand a chance agents Zangefe"
"Zangefe turned toward the gate to see who his next opponent would be to his surprise there stood a blue earth pony with a wight ring around his left eye seeing the tiny pony made Zangefe angry.
"This is Zangefe's challenger this is an insult Zangefe has fought bear's dragons and trolls and know you send a pony to fight Zangefe one with no horn for magic or even wings to fly. This one even comes with a bullseye, so you know where to hit him Zangefe refuses to fight puny pony".
Iron gauntlet looked down from his thrown at the Yake with his fist clenched and making Zangefe lower his head in fear Zangefe then turned to the pony he picked up a nearby mace and got ready for his attack Clutterstep tried to lift up a nearby shield to protect himself. The shield was not the same as the one pony's at the castle use and before he could fully get it of it fell fight on top of him. Zangefe charged at Clutterstep and swung his mace with all his strength Clutterstep tossed the shield of him hitting Zangefe in the face causing him to drop the mace right on his face completely knocking out his right eye.
"Ouch I think you missed the bullseye how about you call a time out and get that checked out".
Zangefe full of rage picked up his mace and started swinging it at Clutterstep however Clutterstep stayed to his right out of his sight Clutterstep then jumped on his back and covered his other eye so he could not see. Zangefe tried to buck Clutterstep off he flopped side to side and was flung in every direction, but he would not let go. In a last attempt to get the pony of Zangefe ran into the wall right before he hit Clutterstep jumped to out of the way causing Zangefe to slam his head agents the wall. Clutterstep saw a nearby net and through it over the Yack with his head hurt and half blind Zangefe could not get the net off.
"So, I think I won can I go home now".
"And that's why Zangefe hates me but with the broken horn and the eyepatch he looks way tougher and scarier know so he should be thanking me.
"I would say that's impossible but after our last fight I might just change my mind so how did you get here in the first place?"
"I've been traveling all around equestria ever since I was a little colt, I've been to canterlot doge junction even beyond the seas to and neighgiria other places. when I finally arrived back in equestria I started wandering again until I came up on the crystal empire, I considered going but then I realized me in a city of crystal a bull in a China shop chose less damage. However, I then realized that not far from there was the Yake village not my first choice but that was the one place that when I break something no one yells at me but before I got there I ran into the one Yake I didn't want to meet".
"Wow you were about as lucky as I was I just got out of school for sping brake and got kidnaped on the way home".
"Thats awful I'm sorry you're missing the holidays with your family and now you're stuck here".
After herring those words tears formed in Galluses eyes.
"It doesn't matter any way all I'd be going to would be a ruined village and a bunch of griffons who don't even care about me! Everyone is always excited when schools let out to see their family's but for me that's when I levee mine.
Clutterstep looked at the sad griffin crying in the corner he scratched the back of his head trying to figure out what to say still not sure Clutterstep walked up to the sad griffin and put his hoof on his shoulder.
"I'm sorry you had to go through that and that you felt alone for so long but from what I see their is one good thing in your life you do have creatures in your life you can call your friends and they can be just as important as family and since there the family you get to choose that makes all the more lucky when they chose you right back".
Gallus looked up at the pony wiping the tears from his eyes and started to smile for some reason hearing the pony's voice calmed the young griffin and made him feel a little better about himself almost as if he truly understood what he was going through.

Morning came and a ray of sun shined though the bars of the cell waking up gallus he looked around realizing wear he was he gave a sigh of disappointment.
"Guess it was too much to ask to wake up and this be a dream not that waking up in Griffonsdail would be any better".
Gallis walked over to Clutterstep and gave him a little shove to wake him up.
"Clutterstep wake up what do we do now are we going to be put into another fight"?
Clutterstep stretched his back legs and rubbed his eyes with his hooves trying to wake up. He gave a yawn as he stood up and put his hoof on Gallises shoulder.
"Don't worry kid they have so many creatures hear each creature only fights once a weak a so we don't have to worry for a while".
"So, what are we going to do how are we going to get out of here what's the plan to escape because I don't think ruuuun is going to help this time".
"Believe it or not they're about to let us out soon".
"Why would they just let us out of here were their prisoners"?
Gallus asked as two guards walked and opened the door to their ceil and walked in. They grabbed Clutterstep and Gallus they tied Gallus wings with chains and locked them then put collars with a red stone on them and locked it so they could not take it off. They dragged them out of their ceil and took them to a beach on the side of the island then walked off Gallus looked at Clutterstep with a confused ecpretion on his face.
"What was that about I get tying my wings down but what's with these collars and why are there no Gurds out here"?
"Come with me and I'll show you".
Clutterstep and Gallus walked over to the edge of the beach right in front of the water. Clutterstep told Gallus to stick his claw out when he did a flash came from the red stone on his collar and Gallus was suddenly back in his ceil. Gallus panicked nervously looking all over the room trying to figure out what happened. Suddenly another flash appeared in the middle of the room when the light vanished Clutterstep appeared in the middle of the room.
"And that's why no one can leave the island on the bright side you don't have to walk back to the room".
"What happened how did we get back here all I did was stick my claw out and then I was here".
"These collars aren't just fashionable theirs a magic barrier around the island anyone who steps even one hoof past it we get sent back to our ceils. Between the guards the barrier and the fact that we are surrounded by thousands of miles of water. Now we have to get back to the beach before someone caches us".
Clutterstep and Gallus walked out of their ceil and started to head back to the beach. suddenly they heard the sound of two guards walking down the hall pushing a cart full of meat. The two hid behind the corner of the hallway as the two guards came closer, they could hear the guards talking.
"Finally, were going to get rid of that blue earth pony once and for all".
The two Gurds laughed not noticing Clutter and Gallus as they walked past them.
"Know what their planning to sacrifice you to their champion and you barley survived your other fights what are you going to do about him"?
"Let's follow those two I think the food they were pushing was for him".
You mean that pile of food the size two of you your plan is to follow two of the creatures holding us captive to something that can eat you whole".
"What you said my running plan wouldn't work so I want to see who this champion is".
Clutter and Gallus quietly walked a good distance behind the two being very careful not to lose them. suddenly the guards came to a big pit where they dumped the food out then turned and ran off. Clutter and Gallus quickly hid behind a tree out of sight before the guards could see them. Clutter and Gallus walked over to the pit when they looked in it, they saw a huge dragon with gray scales covered in scares he took the pile of food which was barley a claw full for him and swallowed it whole.
"Yay maybe coming out to see him was a bad idea curiosity always was my fourth weakness".
Gallus slapped his forehead annoyed with Cluttersteps statement.
"Ok there is no way you can fight this guy what am I saying you're not even a snack for him".
"Alright alright let's get back to the beach so we can come up with a plan out of this".
As Clutter started to walk away the edge of the pit giveaway causing clutter to fall as Gallus tried to catch him, he could not pull him up and fell with him. after hitting the bottom of the pit, they rubbed the back of their heads Clutterstep recovering faster than Gallus walked over to check on the griffin.
"Are you ok you hit your head pretty hard"?
"Yay I'm ok what about you you hit your head just had as me".
"Don't worry about me I fell from farther and harder places before. Hey, wait a minute why does it look like were rising up".
Clutterstep and Gallus noticed that the side of the pit was moving when Clutter examined the ground, he realized it felt more like scales then rock. Gallus turned around and was terrified by what he found he tapped Clutter on the shoulder trying to get his attention. When he turned around, he was also scared of what he saw.
"Ah good I was worried that tiny pile was all I was going to eat".

The dragon stared at the griffin and pony in his claw they held themselves in fear as the dragon narrowed his eyes smoke coming from his nostrils. the dragon opened his mouth and razed his claw with the two of them upward Gallus and Clutterstep closed their eyes in fear awaiting to be eaten by the dragon. When the two opened their eyes, they realized they were sitting on the edge of the cliff and the dragon was laying down .
Um why did you let us go Clutterstep asked with a confused look on his face?
why are you arguing that he didn't eat us let's just get out of here Gallus said pulling on Cluttersteps shoulder gesturing to leave.
Hold on take me to him I want to check something out Gallus lifted his claw and looked at Clutter in confusion Clutter looked at Gallus in anger casing him to change his mind. The two flew down and Clutterstep walked next to the dragon and started to talk to him.
So any reason why you're just sitting in this pit you don't have any chains on you and nothing to stop you from flying out and leaving here.
Nether this pit or this island is my prison something else is keeping me here.
Then what's keeping you here the dragon stood up towering over the earth pony and griffin he looked at the two with a stern face shifting his eyes back and forth between the two.
Fine my name is Tallen Fire Dragon lord Tallen Fire at least it was it was over a thousand years ago I was the strongest most fears dragon that ever existed. No dragon could challenge me I rained unquestioned and unmatched I believed I had all the other dragons respect but in truth I only had their hatred.
Maby, it takes more than just strangth to lead the griffon said gaining an angry look from the dragon. What I mean is the new dragon lord is no bigger than we are yet she earned all the other dragons respect.
So, a griffon sized dragon managed to do what I could not tell me small bird what power dose this dragon poses allowing this dragon to do that?
The power of Friendship more like the magic of friendship or so I hear. Friendship brings creatures together it can bring out a power that you never thought you ha.
Enough I roolled with power and strength like a reel dragon should if the others had a problem with that then they wernt reel dragons like me. Tell me is insulting my leadership skills the only reson your hear or was there another reason.
Well the pony said in a sqeeky voice looking at Gallus. We realy came her to see who the champion was because Im suppos to be fighting him next.
Whaat they put me against a small week pony I fight trolls, ogres, giants not week creatures like you. the dragon picked up the two and tossed them Clutterstep and Gallus went hurdling out of Controle until gallus managed to Straten up and caught Clutter.
Well, that could have gone better said the griffon.
Actually, that was one of my better conversations.
I can't belive it they put me up against that pony that minitour shows me even less respect that my people did The dragon thought back to his final day as dragon lord Dragon lord fire talon we have had enough of your rain I am taking your tittle. You think you can defeat me hundreds before you have tried and I'm still standing here. the two dragons took flight clawing and breathing fire Tallen swung his tail and knocked the other dragon to the ground right before he was going to make the final blow four more dragons came and attacked Tallon. Tallon managed to fend them of the dragon who challenged slashed him in the back and knocked him out the dragon took his helmet and placed it upon his head. From this day forth I Torch shall be the new dragon lord and so something like this doesn't happen again every two thousand years we must select a new dragon lord they tossed me aside like I was nothing I will not stand another humiliation.
know what do we do all we manage to accomplish is making him more made tomorrow he is going to eat you and know amount of planning strategy or dumb luck is going to save you.
Clutter lowered his head and side the only thing we can do know is head back to our cells before any creature finds out or we won't make it to tomorrow.
later that night all the prisoners and guards were asleep except for clutterstep he could not get to sleep suddenly he heard some noise coming from the other side of his cell window when he went to see what was out there, he saw Tallen standing out there. what are you doing and more impotently how did no one notice a giant dragon sneaking around.
Quiet I'm here to set you free Torch widened the bares enough so the clutter could climb out hurry before some creature sees us. wait why are you helping me because I will not humiliate myself by fighting you come on and I can that bracelet of you. Clutter was about to jump out but then stopped no what do you mean I can't leave with all these other inosinate creatures still hear but I'll tell you what.
The dragon leaned in to hear his plan are you sure about this.
Yes, but in case this doesn't work I won't you to get gallus out of here get his bracelet off and set him adrift back to canterlot.

Chapter 5 what I never had
The young griffin tossed and turned in his sleep as he dreamed about the upcoming match between the dragon and Clutterstep. The dragon swung his tail slamming clutter into the wall he walked up to the pony smoke and fumes coming from his mouth as he opened his mouth ready to attack a splash of water woke the griffin up.
What? Wear, am I?
The young Griffin looked all around him but all he could see was nothing but water and in the far distance was a small piece of land.
Thats mount hippogriff how did I get out hear?
So, your finally awake good know I don't have to listen to your loud snoring anymore. Your almost home that blue pony said I could drop you off at a town of ponies with a castle made of gems. He also made sure I knew not to eat any part of it. He makes me fly all this way and I don't even get a snake for the road.
Wear is Clutterstep did you already drop him off somewhere?
He told me to make sure I got you out of there you see the plan is that we would make it seem that I would destroy him and afterwords he would try to free the other creatures.
He can't do that all alone what if he gets caught what will you do then?
Nothing after this whatever happens to him is not my problem, I'm only doing this, so I don't have to embrace myself fighting such a pathetic creature.

Listen a true dragon are supposed to be strong not like the weak ones know adays that are soft and believe in friendship only the strongest ones that look themself and no one else. You get it right you are a griffin.
Yah I am a griffin and before I started to go to twilights school, I wouldn't even lift a claw to help anyone. The young griffin remembered his days of living of the street of griffonstone the young griffin stood beside a crumbling building he saw other griffins conning, cheating and lying to ech other like any other day.
Gallus, gallus wear are you stop hiding and come on out I have something I need you to do.

Listen the princes has asked us to send in a representative for the griffins to their new school so YOU'RE GOING. The old griffin flew in the scowling at the young one then flew off.
Grate know I have no choice but to go not that I ever do not where to go not what I get to do not even somewhere to live this whole towns a dump and I guess this is my only way out. huh fine I've been alone this long no school will change that.
So, you see my point you couldn't do anything about that because you were too weak to do anything about it.
No that's not it my whole life no one ever cared about me it was only after I made friends and meet my teachers before I had anything even close to a family. Clutterstep a pony I meet just a few days ago risking his own life to save mine and all the others. Thats the difference between someone who only chooses power and someone who chooses friendship I'm willing to face the danger of that Island for someone I barely know and your whole kingdom was willing to do anything to make you leave.
Morning came the guards walked up to Cluttersteps ceil just after he finished forming moss in the dark cornner of the ceil to look like Gallus.
Time to go prisoner you should be happy this is the last time you have to see this ceil again.

Chapter 6 Bonds that never break
The two guards brought Clutterstep to the arena as they took of his hoofculfs all he could think about how he was going to save the other prisoners once this is over.
"Maybe when this fight is over, I can dress up as a guard and unlock the cells so the prisoners can escape, I'll have to make some kind of distraction. First and find a way of getting of this island and all this depends on if that dragon doesn't eat me, he was pretty mad I made him fly Gallus all the way to equestria and back in the middle of the night.
Ironhoof stood up from his thrown and spoke." Creatures Ironhoof has always promised you the best fights you have ever seen. However' Ironhoof has to apologise for this is not one of them for this is not a fight but an exaqution".
The Croud cheered as the gate opened to let out Tallon Fire he walked up to Clutterstep
"So, it finally comes down to this well then my little pony I only have one thing to say to you". The dragon lowered his head towered Clutterstep and whispered to him" I'm not a fan of your plan." Tallon Fire grabbed Clutterstep with his tail and tossed him in the air Tallon then spread his wings and flew off into the sky. As Clutterstep started to fall back down to the ground Tallon swiped his claw at him Clutter was barely able to doge and grab onto the dragon's claw
"what's going on I thought fighting me was beneath you why are you attacking me".
The dragon swung his claw at Clutter the blue pony ran up the dragon's arm and clung to the back of his head. The cowed of creatures filled the arena with both cheers of excitement and boos for it taking Clutterstep to be eaten.
Back in the caves wear all the other prisoners are being held a single guard walk up to two others guarding the entrance to the ceils.
"Shift change I'll watch over the prisoners know".
"We were never told about any shift changes also I don't recognize you" "Yah I would remember a guard as small as you".
I'm new Zangefe wants all the guards to the end of the blue earth pony you two better hurry that fight won't last much longer".
"Hès right we need to hurry before we miss everything".
One of the guards hands the little guard the keys to the ceils. The guard waits till the other two guards walks off then heads inside.
Tallon Fire shook his whole body trying to get Clutterstep off of him. Tallon ran to the wall as hard as he could and even tried bucking Clutter off. Finally Talon Fire flew into the sky once more and started to fly in a circle as fast as he could Clutter tried to hold on as but the speed was to much for him. Clutter was sent flying as he started to fall a claw wrapped around him.
"This is it young foul I've toyed with you long enough this all ends know". Talon slowly brought Clutter towered his mouth as he opened his mouth Clutter started to tremble their was nothing he could do. As he brought him closer to his mouth the ground started to shake. Suddenly creatures started to burst out of the gates and cover the crowed.
"What's going on wear did all these creatures come from".
"It's about time that griffin got everyone out of the cave you lucked out foul.
"What are you talking about?" What is going on wear did every creature come from"?
"Clutter, Clutter are you ok Talon, I told you to make it look like you were going to eat him".
I was you're the one who took too long freeing them any longer and you would haft to do this on your own".
"WHAT'S GOING ON"?
The blue griffin in armer flew up towards Clutterstep with a site smug look on his face. "Well, you see as I was being forced back to equestria I had an idea. There was a good chance you would do something to make shore they wouldn't know I wasn't gone giving me the perfect opportunity to sneak in and free all the prisoners while Talon kept everyone distracted".
"Not that you made it easy do you know how hard it was to hold back to not to eat you you've could have put up more of a fight".
"Why didn't you just head home you would have been safe if you had staid".
"As a griffon I was shown that you have to look out only for yourself, but six amazing ponies showed me how important caring about other creatures are. So, I wasn't going to leave the seventh behind".
"Thanks kid but how did you get this guy to go along with your plan I thought all he cared about was fighting and proving he was the strongest".
"I guess he gained a little respect for you after he herd my plan, he was willing to spare you".
"Don't get the wrong idea it's not that I like you it's that I really don't like Iron hoof". Tallon then flew over to wear Iron hoof was sitting at the minitour tried to fend of the dragon but failed. Tallon Fire grabbed both him and his right hoof yak then let out a powerful roar. "That's enough there will be no more fighting understand me". all the guard's prisoners and creatures in the stands stopped and staired at the dragon in silence Tallon then flew down holding both of them in his claws. "So, what do we do with these two".
"If they like this island so much then they can just stay here".
In the sky Tallon Fire was flying towards equestria with both Gallus and Clutterstep on his back. "So, do you think it was a good idea to leave Iron Hoof and all his followers on the island".
"Don't worry kid we put those special bands they were using to keep us there and Tallon welded them shut so know they can't leave. So kid is there some wear we can drop you of how about that school you were talking about".
"No, you can just drop me off at griffonsdail I never thought I would willingly be wonting to go there the buildings are falling apart the food is awful and the griffins don't like each other but maybe that's why I have to go back if things are going to change then someone has to do it..
"Well if griffonsdail has senone like you in it then their still is hope your brave kind and look pretty good in a guard suit you might want to think about becoming one someday.
As they came closer to griffonsdail Gallus could see a group of griffons outside of the gates, "You can just let me of hear I can fly the rest of the way. Thanks for the ride Tallon Fire".
"Now I just need to get rid of this one then I can head back to the dragon lands I need to make sure these new friendship dragons haven't gone to soft".
"Wright and thank you to Clutterstep I'm glad I got to meet you".
"Me to see you later little bro.
