Rainbow Dash finds a velociraptor egg

Fluttershy’s peaceful slumber was rudely interrupted by loud knocking coming from the direction of her opened bedroom’s window. Turning a little, so she laid flat on her back, the sleepy pony saw something…Or rather someone who she definitely didn’t want to see so late at night.
“What’s up Flutters!?” Rainbow Dash grinned excitedly, hovering beside the window. “Can I come in?”
“Ughh…” Fluttershy moaned softly, annoyed to see her childhood friend interrupting her precious sleep…again. She closed her eyes and went back to sleep, facing her pink pillow.
The daredevil seeing her reaction pouted slightly, narrowing her eyes. She flew inside the cottage’s bedroom. Hovering above, she glanced annoyingly at her sleeping yellow friend, but not for long, she had some experience in making this pony leave the realm of dreams no matter if she wanted it or not.
Fluttershy’s adorable bedsheets slipped away from her back, taken by the multi-colored pegasu’s hooves. “Rise and shine Flutters! there’s no time to waste, I have something awesome to show you!”
“Uhh.Rainbow please, it’s the middle of the night can’t this wait until morning?” Fluttershy complained through her pillow making her voice barely audible for her blue companion. “You can join me if you want but I’m not going anywhere.” Not amused at her friend’s response, the daredevil dropped the bedsheets back onto the sleepy figure below her. “Nah. It's not time for bed hugging Shy’,” She sat beside the timid pony, looking at her adorable sleepy face. “Look, you will thank me after you see it, trust me,” she added.
Opening her eyes the canary-yellow pony stared at her blue friend. Oh why cant she just lay here with me until morning? Tomorrow I have to make sure those windows are locked properly…
“Pleasee?” Rainbow Lowered her muzzle so she touched noses with her. Those beautiful magenta eyes penetrating deeply into Fluttershy’s barely awakened soul.
Well, returning back to sleep would probably be impossible at this point so maybe she should just honor her companions request, the shy pony thought. “Uhm…I guess I coul-”
“Awesome!” Dash nuzzled her friend’s cheek and took her yellow friend’s body bridal style outside the cottage through the window into the air, towards her majestic cloud home. She knew Fluttershy would be amazed by her little surprise.
Before the timid mare knew what was happening they were already half way through towards Rainbow's home. “Dash, wait! Should I make myself more presentable? I just left my bed, I must look horrible!” Fluttershy panicked. “Nope. We are only going to my home, besides you always look awesome,” the cheeky pegasus smiled lightly, not looking at her adorable cargo, more focused on navigating in the dark. Well, at least she could lay for a little bit longer in her companion's hooves using her warm coat to shield herself from the night's cold. “Uhm. If you say so…”
Rainbow Dash put her friend on the cloudy ground when they arrived. The floating home was as magnificent as it always was for the yellow pegasus, if it only wasn't so high though…. Fluttershy yawned adorably. “Dashie, So what is this “awesome” thing? Just please don’t tell me it's another wonderbolts poster, you have so many of them already…”
Rolling her eyes, Rainbow motioned to her friend to come with her towards the bedroom. Oh! She just couldn’t wait for Fluttershy’s reaction.“Now I present to you, my dear Fluttershy…” The blue mare stopped for a second to think. “Well actually I don't know what it is but I named him Sharpy, so here you go,” Rainbow Dash added just before opening her bedroom door.
Fluttershy scanned the room for anything out of ordinary, a few seconds passed and her eyes went wide when her gaze rested on a soundly sleeping bird-alike small creature, the feathered animal rested on Rainbows cyan bathroom rag just below her cloud bed.
Seeing her best friend's reaction, Rainbow Dash greened, congratulating herself. It was already worth all the trouble she had to take to acquire the animal.
The creature in question was a small reptile approximately half a meter in length with dark purple feathers decorating most of his small frame. Fluttershy found his slightly narrowed head and flattened snout quite cute. Seeing its sharp yet still very small claws growing from his feets made her realize the origins of his name.
looking at the animal, she rubbed her eyes to make sure she wasn't hallucinating and moved her vision back at her grinning friend. “Rainbow How-When-...Whaaa!?
“He’s so cool right?” Rainbow trotted towards her new pet and gazed closely at his sleeping body. I know you loved that Celestia's big bird, I forgot how she was called but yeah! I dec-”
Not allowing her childhood friend to finish by sealing her lips with her hoof, Fluttershy asked a very important question. “Rainbow…How did you find him? Please. Oh please tell me you haven't stolen it from some top secret royal laboratory?”
Dash showed away the questioning’s pony hoof. “What!? Why would I do that, no! I just kinda borrowed an egg that my weather team and wonderbolts unit found in the Crystal Empire when we got assigned to a mission, to fix the critical weather condition there, remember? In the frozen mountains?”
Fluttershy nodded, continuing to listen to her friend's story.
We discovered like 8 of them, frozen in ice but they looked so cool I kinda had to take one for myself heh.”
The timid’s pony hoof collided with her unamused face. “Rainbow, you stole an egg belonging to creatures that went extinct millions of years ago. I wouldn't be surprised if royal guards were already looking for you.” Rainbow stared at her shy friend questionably. “Hmm? What do you mean?”
“Dashie, have you ever heard of the lizardmen people? I have read many books about them and I gotta say the little guy there doesn't look exactly like how they described them but the similarities are too obvious.”
“Well uhm….No I haven't. I just thought it was a super cool bird, like look at him, it's literally a bird.”
“I mean, it looks kind of like that. In the books they said the lizardmen were probably a highly intelligent species and they never mentioned feathers and this one looks like just your average cute innocent avian…But..Hmm…I don’t know. How old is he?”
“He hatched like three weeks ago, I wanted to show you immediately but I decided to wait until he learned how to fly so I could surprise you with him in your cottage but I couldn't wait any longer.”
Fluttershy giggled silently at her friend's silliness, but she kind of appreciated the gesture. “Dashie you know well that not all birds can fly. Look at him, he has no wings. The poor thing is probably not feeling well up here, so high in the clouds.” Rainbow Dash blushed, slightly embarrassed from her stupid reasoning. “Well I thought the wings would grow after some time or something.”
Fluttershy chuckled a little bit louder and hugged her embarrassed friend. “It doesn't matter. Are you sure you took good care of him?”
“You know I don't have much experiences with animals but I think I did. Should I wake him up so you can know him better?”
“I think we already did Dashie,” Fluttershy walked towards the feathered creature who just got rudely awakened. “Ohhh he’s so cute.”
“Sharpy is cool Flutters, definitely not cute,” Rainbow interrupted.
“Hee. I know somepony else who can be both cute and cool,” Teased Fluttershy, poking her tongue at Rainbow
Dash pouted, observing how her timid friend has been trying to get to know the definitely-not-a-bird lizard. How is it possible that she looked so much brighter and awesome among animals, she guessed it must have been her element’s doing. “I still can’t believe how it happened, you bring back to life a species so far extinct. Maybe there are more like it in the frozen mountains of the Crystal Empire. Imagine Rainbow so many new or rather old animals to get to know! Ohh. That would be so wonderful!” Exclaimed the yellow pegasus.
It didn’t take long for the reptile to explode with energy after his interrupted sleep. Few seconds passed and he was jumping and rolling on Fluttershy’s back who laughed in glee. The animal lover extended her wings allowing Sharpy to use it as his playground like she did many times while playing with cats or her duck friends. “Hee. He’s so delightful.”
Rainbow Dash smiled “U-huh. I can see that.”
“Imagine when he grows up,” Fluttershy continued. “I have read that those creatures could be very big. It would be so nice to have one as a pet. So cuddly and playful. He would defend me from all those bullies back in school, scare all the mean ponies trying to make my day worse and even help us save Equ-”
“Oh yeah…That would be greaaaat,” Rainbow sat on her bed, looking at the cloudy ceiling of her bedroom with fore hooves crossed.
Fluttershy rolled her eyes but smiled, realizing that unknowingly she made her friend question her own supportiveness of the shy pony during their childhood days After closing her wings and making sure the reptile on her back landed safely on the cloudy floor Fluttershy trotted towards Rainbow, immediately nuzzling into her exposed neck. “You know, so you would have less to worry about back then….Unless you really enjoy to be somepony’s guardian...A protector…And such,” Fluttershy purred, moving her muzzle up and down on her best friend’s fluffy neck.
Trying to stop herself from laughing, Rainbow bent down on her bed, laying completely on her back. “Fluttershy stop! That tickles!”
Not letting her friend escape, Fluttershy jumped onto the bed too with few gentle flaps of her wings, ending in a standing position just above the blue pegasus body. “Thank you for showing me your new friend Rainbow, It was worth it even though I lost some sleep,” the timid mare nuzzled her friend’s muzzle for the last time before ascending back to the comfy floor, trying to find the feathered reptile.
Some time has passed and Sharpy fell asleep in Rainbow's colorful mane after getting comfortable there. The duo carefully placed him on Rainbow’s cyan rug. “Tomorrow we should get him to roam on the ground, it’s really not a place for his species up herre as I said before,” Fluttershy proposed.
Rainbow Dash nodded in agreement. “Yeah sure, but we have to be careful so no pony sees him, you’re probably not the only one who read those books….Especially we have to keep an eye for our local egghead.”
“Of course we’ll be careful. Now I should fly back home. I can still get some sleep before I have to feed my animals.”
“Nah. Just stay here, sunrise only a few hours away but it’s still dark, even I had some troubles navigating in the dark.”
“If you really don’t mind,” Fluttershy followed her friend to her comfy cloud bed, resting beside her childhood friend.
“You know I don’t ‘Shy,” The daredevil responded as she covered her friend’s back with her powerful wing.
Next morning the pegasi duo decided to leave Rainbow’s home with their new animal friend after breakfast. When Rainbow informed her timid friend that Sharpy refused to eat anything besides meat made her a little concerned but then she remembered that half of the animals that she was taking care of were just like that. She could still somehow find harmony and keep all the animals in comfort.
Later that afternoon.
“Are you enjoying the view Spike,” Twilight Sparkle asked her number one assistant currently positioned on her back. “Do I enjoy it? Why are you even asking, it’s amazing,” responded Spike with clear excitement in his voice. “I hope one day I’ll be able to fly like other dragons too.”
“Oh, I’m certain you will Spike. I still have much to lea-”
“Hey Twi! Do you see that?” The alicorn was cut off by the little dragon.
“See what Spike?” Twilight inspected the area below to find anything unusual. “Nothing out of place Spike. What are you talking about?”
Spike pointed his fingers at something on the ground. “Look below! Something colorful growing out of those bushes there. Do you see it now?”
Without responding Twilight descended into the ground to investigate, the closer she got the more she could notice, finally after seeing the colorful anomaly move and wiggle Twilight realized it had to be a tail belonging to certain brash pegasus. What would be Rainbow Dash doing in the bushes so far away from Ponyville? There were more than enough clouds all around where she could take her naps on.
Closing her wings with Spike still on her back she carefully trotted towards the mysterious place. When she was just about to shout her blue friend’s name she heard a high pitched squeak coming from there. She stopped moving, hearing Rainbow's voice, whispering something…And somepony else?
“Did you hear Fluttershy too Twi?”
The young alicorn dropped her purple assistant onto the ground. “Ciii,” she pointed her muzzle at the downed dragon but her eyelids inspected the nearby bushes. She noticed however that the colorful tail disappeared so she renewed her approach. “Put him inside Dash, faster!” Hearing those whispers Twilight finally decided to see what was happening.
While using her magic to move the bushes aside she heard another squeak, this one definitely emanating from some shy pegasus that she knew so well. “Rainbow? Fluttershy? What are you doing out here?”
The daredevil looked at the intruding alicorn then back at her yellow friend and back at the purple mare.“Twilight! You should know better than to spy on ponies like that!” Rainbow Dash reprimanded blushing slightly. Meanwhile her yellow companion was hiding behind her mane, almost glued to Dash, their sides literally touching. “I was just flying by and saw you two here so I decided to say hi, what’s wrong with that?” Twilight questioned, however she noticed that the pair had been hiding something behind their backs all this time. Was this a cage?
“No! But you should let know of your presence a little bit earlier, We…I mean Fluttershy here got scared because of you. Besides we wanted uhm…Some privacy. You interrupted us while doing something…Uhm Intimate?” Fluttershy facehoofed hearing her friends rather ill-considered rambling.
“Something intimate huh?” responded Twilight.
“Well…Yeah! Duh!”
“That;s interesting.” Twilight blushed slightly at the implications. ”I’m sorry. We will leave you two then…to whatever you were doing,” she announced, putting Spike onto her backside again. “What is this thing behind you though?”
“Oh. Uhm..It’s just our…Uhm…” Fluttershy tried to find anything to say.
“That’s our picnic basket! Geez Twi, Are you a royal guard’s crime investigator or something, can you just leave us please?”
Suspecting there was more to it Twilight nodded and decided to not question it, leaving the two flustered pegasi. She wondered what they could possibly hide there, and that little squeak from before couldn't possibly be Fluttershy's voice. Or maybe it was? She could sing and alter her voice quite nicely after all.
“That was close,” said Fluttershy, a few seconds after their friend's departure. “Ye. I told you taking him over to your cottages would be better.”
“W-Well maybe you were right. But still I don't want to risk him hurting any of my little animals. It’s a predator Dash,” the shy mare sighed. Rainbow glanced at her saddened companion. “We should go back home anyway, it's getting late and the little guy is probably exhausted after today’s activities. And Frankly so do I. I didn't know he would be so fast heh.”
Fluttershy smiled remembering the fun she had today with Rainbow and her new pet. “Alright, Before we let him out I’ll move most of the little critters at the cottage so they can be safe.”
“Sounds fine with me,” Dash smiled back as the prepared to fly.
Sun set over the quiet cottage belonging to Ponyville's favorite animal caretaker. The two pegasi inside enjoyed the evening, sitting on Fluttershy’s small sofa with the animal lover gently preening her blue companion’s wings while recollecting the day's events. “Do you think we can keep him for a little bit longer?” Fluttershy asked, ceasing her ministrations on her friend’s disheveled feathers. Rainbow Dash opened her eyes, taken aback by this question. She glanced at her friend over her shoulder. “What do you mean “keep him” Flutters? I didn’t know we had to get rid of him?”
“Oh…W-Well uhm…You see I don’t think we can keep him, I told you Sharpy is very special and uhm….He needs to be examined by royal scientists.” Closing her eyes again Rainbow Dash wondered what they should do. “If you say so. Maybe you know, since you're so good around the animals and he definitely likes you after today then maybe they will allow you to keep him, or even take you to the rest of his….siblings? That my team found. Just don’t tell Celestia I stole the egg.”
The timid mare giggled through her friend;s primary feathers. “Silly Rainbow, they'll know it was you, they already do probably. But don’t worry I’m sure Princess Celestia will understand,” Fluttershy nuzzled back into her friend’s wings. “I think you’re enjoying yourself too much back there,” the daredevil teased the soft mare behind her.
“Oh…It’s not like Dashie is not enjoying herself too hee,” The unexpectedly bold mare teased back. “I would rather enjoy something else Flutters,” over her shoulder Rainbow shot her companion a lustful look, getting some naughty ideas.
Seeing where this was going Fluttershy touched their noses, smiling widely. “Oh…Like what?”
Dash licked her lips and took her not so shy friend by surprise, pouncing and tackling her so she was on top while the yellow mare giggled madly below her trying to escape the brash captor. Seeing a perfect opportunity Rainbow snuggled into her friend’s soft coat following it by a gentle nibble on her left ear. “Dash…Hee…Hee…You’re ruining my hard work! Your feathers are gonna be disheveled again!”
“Yeah? I’m sure you can take care of them again later tonight,” the blue mare giggled, nibbling on her friend’s ear again moving to touch their noses so she could look into Fluttershy's adorable cyan eyes. She was just about to execute a very brave action that would make her adorable friend squee beneath her when a sharp stick collided with her forehead. “Ow! What gives!?”
Both pegasi saw a very unusual sight. Angel bunny was standing on the floor, weaning an armor made out of straw? Holding a sword close to his chest. Created from a carrot it seemed. “Angel, sweetie, I told you to stay in the bedroom. Why are you launching sticks towards Rainbow?” From what Fluttershy could understand Angel was hunting a beast that invaded their home, while doing so he accidentally shot Rainbow with his javelins. Knowing how he feels towards the athletic mare, it probably wasn't accidental at all. “It’s not a beast Angel, it’s our new friend but you have to…Oh no!” Fluttershy jumped out from the sofa but she was too late to stop Sharpy from jumping on Angel from behind. A short fight between the two broke out, a small but yet sharp claws against a tactical carrot. The animal lover was fast enough to contain them before they did real harm.
“Yep. You were right about keeping him away,” Rainbow observed the situation from the comfiness of Fluttershy's sofa. “But I gotta say that little brat could use some butt kicking….”
“Rainbow!” Fluttershy glared angrily as if almost using her infamous stare.
“Okey. Okey. I’m sorry. Put them away and let’s just prepare dinner.” Fluttershy nodded.
While Rainbow Dash silently prepared the necessary ingredients she felt a warm sensation touching her ear. "You can finish what you started tonight." Fluttershy gently whispered.
At that Rainbow's wings involuntary twitched and a wide exciting grin appeared on her lips. After all, Fluttershy knew how to repay for Rainbow's occasional surprises.
A week later
“I’m telling you Pinkie, there’s something wrong with them.” Twilight Sparkle stated, putting her black cat suit camouflage, ready to begin her mission. “For the last week they were avoiding me, hiding something I just can’t take it anymore.”
“Okie dokie. Are you sure breaking into Rainbow's home is the best idea though?” Pinkie Pie asked, jumping around the young princess., wearing a similar black cat suit.
“We’re not breaking in Pinkie!” Twilight reprimanded her hyperactive friend. “We’re just gonna accidently enter her home.” Pinkie Pie thought about it for a second seeing the wisdom in her friend’s words. “You’re right Twily, silly me.”
“Exactly, now let’s go, Rainbow should be asleep for a long time already.”
After roaming for some time, uninvited in Rainbows cloud home Pinkie Pie and the princess of friendship couldn’t find anything unusual. Well Pinkie had some fun in Rainbow's kitchen where her fridge was full of various candies. Disappointed Twilight was about to leave the house. She scrapped the idea after hearing those weird squeak-like noises, this time they were a little bit louder resembling the sound of a young bear. It seemed they emanated from Rainbow’s bedroom. She wanted to avoid that room not liking the idea of Dash finding her here….That would end very badly. She couldn't stop herself though. Joined with Pinkie she slowly opened the doors leading to the forbidden room.
Twilight definitely wasn't expecting to see this! She really had to stop finding her friends in intimate situations. While she blushed Pinkie standing by her side giggled silently seeing their pegasi friends laying on the comfy cloud bed with a certain yellow mare on top of the blue one, both of them looking at the intruding ponies Rainbow ready to explode with anger. Twilight noticed a saliva connecting the pair's lips that was when she closed the doors and teleported away shouting apologies before she did so.
Left alone, Pinkie waited until not so amused Rainbow opened the door. “Uhm…Hello Dashie! Can I join?”
“Pinks? Explain yourself!” Shouted the angered mare.
The party pony blinked a few times before responding. “Twily asked me to help her find something in your home that you were supposedly hiding from her for some time now. Please don’t be mad!”
The annoyed pegasus sighed. “Uhhh..I guess it’s our fault. Look, just don’t tell anypony about this okey?”
“About what?”
Rainbow Dash invited Pinkie inside her bedroom, moving past Fluttershy who was still embarrassed from the intrusion on their privacy. There Pinkie Pie saw a weird looking reptile playing with Rainbow’s tortoise…or was it a turtle?
“Ohhh you have a dinosaur. That’s so sweet. Can I touch him?”
“Wait. So you know what it is?” Asked surprised Fluttershy.
“Duh. Of course I do. They were Gummy’s friends. He lived when those creatures were dominating the planet.” Rainbow Dash facehoofed loudly. “Pinkie I didn't think it works like..Eh Whatever. Just don’t tell anypony about this, besides Twilight. Make her not snoop at my home again. We are going to bring him into Celestia soon anyway, Fluttershy just wanted to spend some more time with him. She likes this reptile…Well I guess she likes any animal no matter what it is.”
Pinkie Pie nodded eagerly. “So…I will take you to the ground and please leave us alone after that,” Dash added.
“No problem Dashie, I’m sorry again.”
Rainbow Dash shook her head not wanting to prelong this unwanted visit anymre, she assured Fluttershy to return in few minutes and did just that.
Meanwhile in the Canterlot Castle
Princesses of the sun and night respectively sat in their throne room, eagerly waiting for the latest report from prince Blueblood. Said white unicorn entered the room bowing to the Equestrian leaders. “Report,” Celestia demanded.
“Your highness, the latest experiments are more than promising. The beasts are astonishing. If we learn how to train them and controll them well enough they’ll be of great support to our royal guards patrolling the Changeling border.”
“Excellent, continue then,” The goddess of the sun approved. “I may know someone who would be of great use to us. Training animals with her expertise would be highly appreciated. We'll Send the letter tomorrow morning.”
The prince nodded as he left the throne room, happy that his controversial idea got accepted by the princesses. If everything goes well there will be no more changeling invasions. After all, what could possibly go wrong?

I hope some of you enjoyed this little piece of silly writing. The idea to write this was so random without any real consideration of the plot so I just tried to make it a fluffy story with the dinosaur element heh. I'm still learing how to write, it's kind of hard with english not being my native language but I hope one day I will be able to write properly
So I'm sorry for many mistakes that I made.
