Training and Living

A few days have passed since Bow and Windy had signed up for the Wonderbolts, with each passing day Bow waits anxiously for a letter announcing his basic training.

Bow jogs up to his mailbox and looks inside, hoping for a letter, but is met with cold metal staring back at him, he closes his mailbox and jogs down the sidewalk, wanting to keep in shape. He jogs down to his parent's house and knocks on the door.

"Hey, Son. How have you been?" His mother asks as she opens the door to greet him.

"Hey, mom. I'm doing good," Bow replied, giving her a big hug. "I'm just here to get more of my stuff," Bow said as he broke the hug.

"Oh, right. Just a sec," Bow's mother said as she bent down and picked up a box with a grunt.

"Here you go, Sweetie," she said as she handed Bow the box. "It still feels like yesterday that you and Windy bought that house and moved out," she said.

"Thank you, and yeah it does, I must say, it still feels weird living by ourselves," Bow said as he held the box.

"It'll be that way for a while, but please come by for dinner on occasion," she asks as Bow smiled.

"I will, and same goes for you, I'm just a block away," he says as he steadies his grip.

"I will," she replies.

"Oh, before I go, thank you for all the extra furniture, Windy and I probably wouldn't have been able to get anything soon with all our money going into the house and all," Bow said.

"Oh, you're welcome, sweetie, it was just gathering dust in storage," his mother replied.

Bow nodded and then left, jogging back to his house with a box held tightly in his arms. Bow occasionally flaps his wings to keep them in shape.

As Bow approaches his house, he sees Windy, looking through the mail and suddenly lets out an excited scream.

"ALRIGHT!" She exclaimed as Bow jogged up to her.

"Some good news I take it?" Bow asks, jogging in place as Windy nods, grinning from ear to ear.

"Yes," she said as she flipped over an envelope. "Our letters from the Wonderbolts came in today," she said as Bow's eyes widened.

"Let's open them tonight," Windy said as Bow laughed.

"Or we can open them when I get this box in," Bow said as Windy blushed.

"That sounds even better," Windy said as she helped Bow inside and set the box down.

Bow and Windy then sit on the couch and look at their letters, their hearts pounding in their chests as they wonder what's inside.

"Well, here it goes," Windy says as she opens hers and reads the letter, Bow following suit.

As they read they both smiled before screaming out in joy. "I GOT IN," they screamed at each other in unison before hugging each other happily.

After breaking the hug they try to regain their composure, but struggle with it.

"So what base are you training at?" Bow asked.

"Cloudsdale base, and you?" Windy replied.

"Same," Bow said as the two continued to smile.

"Ah, that's great, I was hoping to train with you," Windy said happily. "Oh, wait, hold on, my letter says I have training scheduled for next month, you start your training this month," Windy said sadly.

Bow's tail flicked with sadness. "I was hoping we would train together too, but it probably wouldn't hurt to spend some time apart," Bow replied.

Windy smiled impishly as she looked at Bow. "Are you saying you want to break up?" She asks.

"No no, I was just," Bow replied, trying to defend himself as Windy chuckled.

"Relax, Sweetie, I was just joking, I know what you meant," she said

The two love birds revel in their enjoyment, losing themselves in the excitement.

"So when do we leave?" Bow asked.

Windy looks at her and Bow's letters and examines them. "You are to report in tomorrow morning at 0800 for briefing," Windy said with a bright smile.

"Wow, that early," Bow said as he caught his breath.

"Yeah it is, you better start packing," Windy replied as she went upstairs.

Bow follows her upstairs, wondering why she's going upstairs if he needs to pack.

Windy helps Bow pack for his stay at basic training, their hearts pounding with excitement and anxiety at the prospect of being separated for practically two months.

After packing, they go to bed early so they can enjoy a little time together before Now leaves.

The next morning Bow wakes up to find that Windy is still asleep, his bags were sitting in the corner of the room as the sun had just started its climb up.

"Windy, wake up sweetie," Bow said gently while gingerly shaking Windy's shoulder.

Windy wakes up and looks at Bow. "What?" She asks groggily as Bow smiles.

"Just wanted to spend time with you before I left, come on, I'll make us breakfast," Bow said as he headed downstairs and started cooking.

Bow quickly whipped up, two hash brown bowls with egg, cheese, and haybacon adorning the top. The two love birds have breakfast and discuss on what Windy will do while Bow is away, after breakfast, Bow sees time is fleeting so he quickly grabs his bags and kisses Windy goodbye, telling her he loves her and that he'll see her soon before taking off.

Bow arrives at Cloudsdale Wonderbolt base and takes his seat in the orientation hall. He looks around and sees other hopeful mares and stallions as they wait for their coach to enter.

Suddenly the door flies open and in walks an orange pegasus, books, and a clipboard held tightly under her arm as she enters.

"Attention, rookies," the mare says as she puts down her books and clipboard, you all are here because you signed up to be Wonderbolts, sorry to disappoint you, but for some, that might not come true; this boot camp is to weed out the ones who can't handle the intense and demanding life being a Wonderbolt demands," the orange mare said intensely.

Now gulped as his heart pounded in his chest, he knew being a Wonderbolt wouldn't be easy, but he was still determined. "I know her though, out of all the drill servants, I get her," Bow mutters to himself.

The orange mare continues briefing the Wonderbolt hopefuls. "I'm sure you know me, for those that don't, I am Stormy Flare, and I will be evaluating your skills, your abilities, and how well you work together, if I feel like you can make the cut; you'll be a Wonderbolt, for those who signed on as reserves, you'll be placed on reserve until needed or a spot opens up, am I clear?" The mare asked.

"YES MA'AM!" the entire auditorium yelled in unison.

Stormy Flare smiles as she takes off her sunglasses. "Good,"

Stormy then dismisses the auditorium, handing out assigned barracks. Bow promptly goes to his barracks and sets down his suitcase on the top bunk.

"Well look what the cat dragged in," a voice rang out behind him.

Bow smiled as he turned around. "I can say the same for you, how you doin' Lightning?" Bow asked as he initiated a pound hug, Lightning following suit.

"I've been good, after graduating I immediately signed up for basic training, it looks like you did the same," Lightning answered.

"Yeah, I did the day after I got home," Bow replied.

Lightning smiled as he patted Bow on the back. "I figured you would, so how is Windy doin', I figured she would be here with you," Lightning asked.

"She's fine, unfortunately when we got our letters we learned that our training is a month apart," Bow replied.

"Aw, bummer man," Lightning chimed as he sat on his bed.

"It's not so bad, a little time apart won't be so bad," Bow replied as he climbed up and sat on his bed. "I mean, Windy and I have been tied together since high school, so you know," Bow said as he laid down and looked at the ceiling.

"It sounds like you two were tighter than glue," Lightning said as he talked to Bow.

"We were, I took her to the prom, we hung out a lot during the summer before college," Bow said as he listed off how he and Windy were always together.

"You had that little rendezvous with her in college," Lightning said, causing Bow to blush.

"Yes, we did," Bow replied, a little irritated. "But that wasn't all there was to our relationship, we connected, we were like a match made in heaven," Bow said, opening up as Lightning listened.

"It sounds like you really love this mare," Bow's buddy replied, dropping his juvenile attitude. "I hope I can find somepony that makes me feel like that," he admitted.

Bow smiled impishly as he looked at his old dorm mate. "Are you going soft on me?" Bow jokingly asked as Lightning chuckled.

"I guess I am, ever since you called me out on my behavior….." Lightning said before being cut off by Bow.

"Your misogynistic behavior," Bow said while looking sternly at him

"Yeah, that. I started thinking on how it could hold me back, how it would deter any potential lovers, I also thought about those close to me, if I acted like that in front of them how would they respond," Lightning said as he stroked his arm. "I decided to change my tune, so I must thank you for that, if you didn't call me out on that deplorable behavior, I wouldn't have discovered a passion I didn't know I had," Lightning said.

Bow raised an eyebrow at his words, curiosity flooding his mind. "Oh, and what would that be?" He asked.

"Cooking," Lightning replied without hesitation.

As Bow and Lightning talked and caught up on good times, the speakers blasted "Reville" calling them to attendance.

Bow, along with the other numerous Wonderbolts in training gathered in a single file line as Stormy Flare called out their names.

Once attendance was taken Stormy Flare paced in front of them as she began to speak.

"Alright troops, today we will be gauging your ability to recover, this machine beside me is a new tool we have developed for testing this skill, we call it the Dizzitron, now who wants to go first?" The captain asked.

A moment of silence passed before a hand came up. "I'll go," Bow said confidently as he stepped up and allowed himself to be strapped into the device.

The machine started spinning, swinging Bow around at speeds he never thought possible until finally launching him sky-high.

Bow quickly tried to recover, shakily flying to the ground as he landed on the ground before falling down.

"Twelve point five seconds, not bad newbie, but you got to improve on the landing and recovering," Stormy said as she tested and timed the others.

After a long day of training, Bow retired to his barracks and laid on his bed, every muscle in his body aching and his wings twitching with pain as he looked up at the ceiling.

"Hey, Bow, that was some training huh?" Lightning asks as he collapses on his bed.

"Yeah, I wasn't expecting the Dizzitron to get to me like that," Bow said as he pants from exhaustion.

"I bet, but you at least did better than me, I clocked in at thirteen point five," Lightning said, causing Bow to laugh.

The rest of the month seemed to both fly by and slow down all at the same time, Bow would carry out the drills and tasks given to him without complaint, he would memorize the maneuvers and routines until it felt like his head was about to burst.

Soon, the month had passed and Bow had taken the test and was on his way home, when he arrived there was a note on the door. The note said. "Bow, I'm sorry I couldn't see you before I left, but I had to report in, I'll see you in a month," "Love Windy,"

Bow smiles, as he unlocks the door and throws his bag down, he feels a chill run down his spine as he looks around the empty house, being alone like this for the first time in a while.
