//-------------------------------------------------------// New to Ponyville -by afireinsidebrad- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Prologue //-------------------------------------------------------// Prologue Prologue It was a bright and sunny day in Ponyville, thanks to Rainbow Dash. There werent any clouds in the sky which was surprising for the rainbow maned pegasus. While she as taking care of a grouping of clouds, she noticed something at the edge of town. It wasnt something she was used to seeing around Ponyville, and she usually see's the weirdest things in town. From what she could make out, it looked like a building of some sorts was being built, maybe a home? There was a larger portion jutting out from the right side of the house as well, most unlike the homes she's seen around town. "What the hay are they building over there?" she thought to herself. She decided to go check out what it was and dashed over to it as fast as possible. The closer she got, the more workers and machines she could see working on the structure, nearly 20 construction ponies were all moving from spot to spot, hammering or doing other work. The home was still in its skeletal state, mostly just a lot of wooden framing. The workers were sawing, sanding, and hammering away, doing what they do best. Rainbow Dash noticed one worker was on his break and drinking a nice hot cup of coffee and flew over to him. He saw the familiar blue pony fly towards him. "Hey Rainbow Dash! I dont think we need to be rescued today," he chuckled, his voice rough but friendly. Rainbow Dash rolled her eyes, "Yeah yeah, I was actually just checking out what the hay you guys were building over here, its too symetrically shaped to be normal around here." He looked at the work-in-progress then to the town, then to Rainbow Dash, "I agree with you there, apparently its some nopony from Manhattan or somewhere like that. He purchased this lot to build his 'shop' here in Ponyville." Rainbow Dash scratched her head because she had no idea why somepony would want to move out to a place like this, where destruction happens on a weekly basis. Despite all the wanton destruction to the little town, she supposed it was really nice place to live anyway, but nothing compared to Cloudsdale. "You guys usually know exactly what it is you're all building, what kind of shop?" she asked the construction pony. He shrugged and shook his head, "Guy wants to keep it a secret, if you ask me, i dont think any shop needs this much room, but he payed pretty well, so Im not complaining." Rainbow Dash decided not to ponder on this though, she had better things to do like sleep on her favorite cloud, or read the latest Daring Do story at Twilight's. She suddenly got an idea, "I'll tell the girls!" she said outloud and rushed off back to Ponyville, leaving the workers to continue their job. *  *  *  * 2 weeks later, the structure was complete, it looked very curious now that it was done. The large side section now had 2 very large doors and a sign that read 'Ring Spanner Magicmotive'. This especially confused Twilight, considering she never head of the term, let alone knew it even existed. "What do you guys think 'Magicmotive' is supposed to mean?" Spike asked before Twilight could. "Ah havent got a clue sugarcube, i doubt any of us do either, considerin' Twi is the only pony who knows a lot about magic 'n stuff," Applejack replied. They all nodded, but there was one thing they all knew for sure, there was a brand new unicorn in town. Twilight couldnt wait to meet them though, another pony to discuss magic wasnt a common thing here in Ponyville. They all started to converse about who it could be and what they do exactly, when suddenly Pinkie Pie started her usual incomming event banter. "Twitcha twitch! TWITCHA TWITCH!" she sounded off as she started to shake, startling everypony. Twilight shook it off, "Well i guess whoever this pony is, they must be almost here." They all nodded, "I hope they have good taste darling, I just cant wait to meet them!" Rarity said happily. Spike noticed Fluttershy being her usual shy self and staying low, "What's the matter Fluttershy?" he asked. "I...I hope they're not too loud or mean to animals..." she said quietly. Everypony chuckled slightly, and told her that they wouldn't be either. But as soon as Fluttershy got back to her senses, a loud roar knocked her on her back, hoofs straight in the air, frozen solid in that pose. "Oh! That must -Twitch- be them -Twitch- coming now!" Pinkie said, still twitching. Listening closely, Applejack was able to make Fluttershy feel better, "That's no animal Fluttershy, dont worry." Coming to her senses yet again, Fluttershy got back up and looked in the direction of the roaring. "Well, what the hay is it then?! Im getting bored!" Rainbow Dash said, glaring at AJ, who shrugged. "Ah have no idea darlin'," AJ said. RD sighed in annoyance and decided to fly up to see what it was exactly. She couldnt make it out completely, but what she did see confused her greatly. "Uh Twilight? I think i have an idea as to what 'Magicmotive' might be," she said as she landed next to the purple pony. Moments later, they all say the source of the noise. It was a 4 wheeled carriage (similar to a model T, but modern), but it wasnt being pulled by anything, which confused everyone. It rolled up fast, bellowing noise and dirt as it came to a stop in front of the building. "Wow! Those guys did a great job, it looks just like I imagined it!" a muffled, but distinctly male, voice said from inside the closed carriage. As they watched, the door on the driver side (american btw, so left side) opened and out stepped a deep green unicorn stallion. He was the deep green, which charcoal black mane and tail, but he also wore glasses, an black denim vest with many pockets, and heavy boots on his rear hoofs. Rarity was taken aback by his simple and downright boring fashion. He looked around the outside before turning to face the mane 6, and gave then a smile and a wave. Before he could speak though, Pinkie Pie jumped in front of him, "HI! I'm Pinkie Pie, and welcome to Ponyville! These ponies here are my friends Twi-" he interrupted her. "Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Applejack, and the little guy is Spike!" Ring Spanner said, bringing a look of confusion to the ponies once more. "H-How did you know that????" Pinkie asked, "Princess Luna told me all about you guys on Hexbox Live, gotta love Zebrasoft. We've been online friends for a few months, even though she kicks my flank constantly on Space Mare-ine," he said. They look awestruck when he said he knew Luna. As they looked at him, the passenger side door opened, and out stepped a skyblue unicorn with violet mane and tale. She looked at the building and smiled, "It is beautiful honey, you finally got your own shop!" She walked over to Ring Spanner and kissed him on the cheek, the mane 6 all took a look at their cutie marks. His was of an unusual looking tool, it was open on one end and closed on the other, but had holes on each end. Her's was just simply a quill and a roll of parchment. "My name is Ring Spanner by the way, and this is my wife Quill, its quite nice to meet all of you." he said. "Its a pleasure to meet you and your wife Mr. Spanner, but if nopony else will ask," Rarity said smiling, "What exactly do you do?" Ring Spanner tried to think of a way to explain it simlpy to them. "I'm sure you've all met the Flim-Flam brothers correct?" he asked. Just the mere mention of them made them all frown, but it quickly passed as the nodded in acknowledgement. "Well, their machine moved with magic, so I decided to improve that idea," RS started to explain how it worked, simply of course. "Gems are used to house and store magic to 'fuel' the 'car', thats what i call my invention," he said, but then he got glum. They all looked at him, curious as to why his mood changed so quickly. "The problem is...i can't seem to get the gems to hold much magic, or get enough wingpower out of the motor...," he said frowning. Quill put a hoof over his should and nuzzled his neck, then looked at the mane 6. "He's been under a lot of stress lately, thats why we moved here," Quill said. She looked at him again then back to them, "But i guess thats what being innovative can do to you, huh girls?" They all smiled and nodded, which made RS feel a bit better. Twilight looked over at RS and had an idea, "Hey, how about I see what I can find for the storage! I run the library and may be able to find something," she said with a smile. This was going to go so much better than Ring Spanner could have ever hoped.
