CloudsDale Flight Academy: Sophomore Year
Chapter 1
Doug smacked me across my face with his hoof. I felt my lip split on impact and dribble blood down my chin. I snorted and snapped my head back towards him. Doug had a smug, arrogant grin. He looked proud that he just hit a mare. His friend Kenton seemed shocked and fearful at first, but cheered him on.
I stood as tall as I could and faced him. I was not going to be at the bottom of the food chain or that pony that ALWAYS got messed with. I was NOT going to let that start here at Clouds Dale Flight Academy. I looked him in the eyes and punched him on the nose. He backed away, holding his nose that was gushing blood all over him. I saw the spark in his eyes telling me that he would not let me down and nothing was going to stop him from getting his revenge.
Other ponies had gathered around. I was surprised that no teachers had shown up yet.
Doug looked up at me and lunged. He tackled me to the ground. I wiggled a little out from under him, but he wouldn’t release his grip. He pulled his right hoof back slowly, readying himself again to strike me. I shoved his left hoof out from under him. He fell on me with a thud, dazed. I shoved him off me and stood up. I flicked my tail in anticipation for him to get up.
He shook his head and leaped up. I saw him nod to some pony or something behind me. Before I couldn’t figure out what, Kenton grab me from behind and held me down. I tried to gather my strength, but Kenton was a seasoned athlete. I was an athlete too, but I had taken a break after an injury.
I struggled to get Kenton off me as Doug approached me smiling. He leaned close to my ear and whispered;
“Stay out of my way next time whore!”
He used his left hind leg and kicked me in my ribs. I gasped and closed my I shut. Kenton got off me. I think they left. I grabbed my side, grimacing. I heard a few words around, but was too dazed to make out what they said. I think I laid there for a few seconds until I heard hoof steps. No pony even tried to help me or even ask if I was okay!
I opened my eyes and squinted. The orange and purple/red mane pony I had defended was standing over top of me, staring at me

“Are-are you ok-okay?” she stuttered
“I…think…so…” I answered slowly.
I had sat up now, regaining my strength

“Do need any help?” she asked
I nodded and she came to my side. I leaned on her and stood up. My ribs ached and my lips stung.
We walked slowly of the storm ball field.
“Where are we going?” I asked
“The nurse, Duh!” she answered
“NO! I’ll be fine, besides if they found out I was involved in a fight, and they’ll kick me out! It’s not even the third week of school.” I said frantically
“But…”
“No!” I cut her off hastily
“Fine. I owe you anyways. Thanks for sticking up for me. My name’s Scootaloo by the way.”
“I’m Fire Dance. Let’s get back to our dorms.” I responded
We walked together silently back to our rooms. I was lucky enough to not have to share my room. I had the room all to myself, thank Celestia. I nodded and said good bye to Scootaloo and collapsed onto my bed. I fell asleep instantly.
****The next morning******
I closed my locker and headed to home room. On my way I bumped into Scootaloo. She was all alone. Well that was no surprise considering she came to school the second week in. That’s why she was being picked on by Doug and Kenton. They said that she was getting an abortion I think. That was crazy. I doubt she was and that she had even been pregnant. I can’t stand those colts some times.
Scootaloo seemed to be relieved when I showed up.
“What’s up?” I asked not sure what to say
“Nothing really.” She answered
We walked down the hall for a few seconds in silence.
“Well okay then. Quite an interesting conversation starter.” I said laughing
She laughed back. “I guess I don’t know what to talk about.”
“So… how was your first day here?”
“Normal except for being accused of getting an abortion during the first week of school and witnessing a fight.” She answered
I shook my head smiling. “Very interesting.”
We walked into our home room. I sat in the back alone. I could focus more when I was alone and in the back. I was a good student, but struggled to get good grades. Sometimes I feel like giving up because no matter how hard I studied, I would still fail a test. But this year if I didn’t get good grades, then I wouldn’t be allowed to play storm ball. Tryouts were next week and if you were already failing in your classes in the second week of school, then you were definitely not going to be on the team.
Class began shortly. This class was easy. It was Language Arts. I had a talent for it, but it was never my cutie mark talent. My cutie mark was a flame bolt. It stood for the love of speed while flying. I think I want to be a Wonder Bolt, like my hero Rainbow Dash. But honestly, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life.
I was snapped out of my thoughts from a note landing on my desk. I opened it and read it;
Dear Fire Dance,
Epic fight yesterday, wanna come to my exclusive party? It’s at my uncle’s house, 3678 Wing Feather Rd. 9:00.
-Blue Dust
Wing Feather Rd.?! That street was a rich street. I couldn’t believe I was being invited to an exclusive party!
I looked around to see what pony had written it. I didn’t know who Blue Dust was. As I scanned the room, I saw a blue and dusty colored colt stare at me in anticipation, smiling. I smiled back and shook my head yes.
9:00 3678 Wing Feather Rd.
I looked up at a giant cloud mansion. I trotted up the path to the front door. It got louder and louder as I approached. As I got to the door and knocked, I smelled a strange smell. The smell was extremely strong. It took a few seconds to process the smell.
It was the smell of weed.
I back away, getting ready to leave. A party with little drugs was okay. I didn’t like it but I could escape the part of the house were the pot heads hung out. But parties were you could smell it outside the house and the windows and doors weren’t open, WAS NOT my scene.
As I turned around, the door opened. I coughed as the fumes leaked through the door opening. Blue Dust stood there, obviously high and/or drunk. He pulled me in and slammed the door shut before I could say anything.
Every pony was either smoking weed or dance to the music or mingling. There were more than thirty people here. That was kind of small compared to what I was used to. I heard the door open again and saw Scootaloo walk in. Before I could say anything, Blue Dust wrapped his hoof around my neck and handed me some weed.
I looked up at him, not sure what to do.
