Taming Blaze
Chapter I
Load Full StoryI hummed happily to myself as I flipped a pancake. I made sure it wouldn’t burn and then switched to my attention to another pan that had sausage in it. I became the chef in the house after me and my sister lost our gems. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Sure, I liked the power and such that came with my gem, but I was lonely. There’s a difference between having real friends and having people under your spell doing your bidding. I would have much rather used my magic making everyone be friends and like me but you know, things didn’t turn out that way unfortunately.
“Breakfast is READDYYYYY!” I called out up the stairs. Aria was the first to come down the stairs grumbling. She opened a cupboard and got a plate out of it. She slammed it shut and I jumped. Loud noises scared me and made me jumpy. And that is why I refused to go back to the shooting range with Aria and Adagio.
“Move aside,” Aria grumbled. She was a meany pants in the morning. I sighed and stepped aside. It’s not like she didn’t leave any for the rest of us, she was just really rude. She actually took less food so we could have a decent amount. I really wished she would tone it down. I got down a glass and poured her some chocolate milk. It was her favorite drink for breakfast.
“Here you go!” I announced and put the glass at her spot in front of her spot at the table. She didn’t say anything and just started eating.
“Good morning Sonata,” Adagio greeted me as she came downstairs. She had her mean moments still but she really calmed down after going to therapy. Maybe Aria could go to therapy too. Not like we would suggest it. I gave Adagio a big grin and a hug. She sighed and hugged me back.
“Good morning, Dagi!” I chirped.
“It’s too damn early for such enthusiasm,” Aria groaned and glared at us. “Would you two shut it?” Adagio glared back at her.
“Shut up, Aria. Your sister makes your breakfast everyday and you probably didn’t even say thank you,” Adagio snapped. “Say thank you, now.”
“Fine,” Aria groaned. “Thanks.”
“You’re welcome,” I mumbled. I handed Adagio a plate of food and orange juice. She gave me an grateful smile and sat down at the table, starting to eat. I got my own plate and sat down next to Aria.
“How did you sleep, Aria?” I asked as I took a bite.
“Fine. Why do you care?” She demanded. Adagio glared at her again.
“Just asking,” I grinned. “Being a caring sister!” She rolled her eyes.
“Whatever.” Adagio slammed a hand down and I jumped at the loud sound. She shot an apologetic look my way.
“I’m getting real tired of your attitude, Aria. Show some damn respect,” she growled and I shrank in my seat. Aria glared at her.
“To who? I literally do not care enough to do anything. Now if you need me, I’m going go to my job,” Aria stood up and opened the front door, slamming it shut behind her. I jumped again and sighed. I stood up and picked her plate up.
“Sit down and finish eating, Sonata. I’ll take care of her plate,” Adagio swallowed the rest of her breakfast and stood up.
“Are you sure?” I asked uncertaintly. She gave me a nod and took the plate out of my hands.
“You cook breakfast and dinner everyday, I’ll clean this up. Then I have to go to work,” she carried it to the kitchen and I heard the faucet turn on. I hated her having to work and clean up, but she was hopeless to fight with somedays. I sat down and inhaled my breakfast. I forgot how hungry I was from cooking all morning. I took my plate and glass to the kitchen.
“I’ll wash my dishes,” I told her. She gave me a nod and hugged me.
“Alrighty, I gotta go. Have fun, don’t burn the house down in our absence,” she teased. I rolled my eyes at that. I had a tendency to be pretty reckless unfortunately. She walked outside and I watched her car pull away. I sighed and started to clean my dishes and the pans I used.
I sat crosslegged on the floor, reading a book. Other than the radio playing music, it was quiet. I always did enjoy the quiet moments. Not many people know that about me. I may be very energetic and stuff, but I like some quiet moments to calm down. Helps the soul and mind sometimes. Aria says its just because I’m weird but eh, what does she know. I had spent the entire afternoon vacuuming around the house and dusting. I don’t know how the small house we got can attract so much dust. I have to dust at least once every week. I did feel bad that I had no job and couldn’t help pay bills. Adagio always reassures me that it’s fine. Plus no offense to either of them, but they can’t really cook. Aria could burn water if she tried to make anything. And I didn’t even think that was possible until I witnessed it first hand. We didn’t let her back around the stove after that. And she calls me the dangerous one. I glanced at the clock and jumped up. I didn’t realize it was so late. I needed to make dinner before the others got home. I always tried to have it ready before they got here. I stepped into the kitchen and hummed the same song from this morning as I started preparing the pasta.
“I’m home!” Adagio called out as I finished stirring the meat into the sauce. I typically expected Aria first so this was a surprise. I didn’t even hear the car park in the garage or the front door open. I’d be the first to die in a slasher movie. I hate those types of movies. I’ve only seen them because Aria likes them. I stepped out of the kitchen to hug Adagio.
“Hi, big sis! How was work?” I eagerly asked and she flopped onto the couch after our hug ended.
“Long but decent,” she admitted. The front door was kicked open and Aria stormed in. She slammed the door shut and growled. I once again for the hundredth time today jumped.
“Get the hell out of my way,” she snapped and Adagio’s eyes narrowed.
“Do not talk to your sister like that,” she warned. Adagio had really gotten serious about her role of being the oldest and looking out for us, especially me. It wasn’t always this way though. While she did always look out for us, it was more so out of obligation than caring. That thankfully changed recently after a lot of therapy sessions.
“Or what? You gonna ground me or something? " Aria challenged and I slunk into the kitchen.
“You go your room now or so help me god,” Adagio growled. “I’ve had it with your disrespect. Don’t come out, I’ll bring dinner up to your room.” I peeked around the corner and surprisingly Aria went to her room. I had expected a screaming match. That was what usually happened.
"I'm sorry," Adagio mumbled.
"It's okay," I tried to reassure her.
"Are you sure?" Adagio stared at me questioningly. I sighed and nodded, smiling at her with my normal big grin.
"Yeah."
