The Future Will Change
Episode XVIII: Corruption
Previous ChapterNext ChapterLater on, as Eris finished up her investigation, she returned to the police station and took a seat behind her desk.
“Dammit…all of this shit is getting out of hand,” she muttered to herself as she looked over the various dossiers of mutated beings they’ve arrested thus far. “If we don’t come up with an answer yet, we’ll just run into more problems. We need to quell the public’s anxiety as quickly as possible. No matter the cost.”
One of her co-workers--her assistant that had been with her the whole time up to the point, walked through the door. A young man who looked to be her deputy officer.
“Miss Eri--”
“Captain.”
“S-sorry. Captain Eris. I’ve been looking into those cases and so far, none of the suspects we’ve questioned have been able to give us any solid information,” he explained with a sigh, “Do you think it’s possible that we’re barking up the wrong tr--?”
CRASH!
A stapler whizzed past the guy’s head and clattered against the wall right as he ducked under it.
Eris glared at him and grimaced. “Why do you suppose I just threw a stapler towards you, Archie?”
Her assistant, Archie, stuttered, “I-I don’t know.”
“Oh I’m sure you don’t.” The chief officer’s cold voice called out as she approached him.
The young woman had a dull pink skin complexion, long blond hair, and wore a typical police chief’s brown uniform suit with a rather ample bustline and rather wide hips. She approached Archie with a threatening smile on her face.
“...M-ma’am, I--”
“Listen up, kid. We’re the police. It’s our job to put those who are in the wrong behind bars, right?” She asked with a condescendingly sweet tone as she backed him against the nearest wall and repeated herself with a deeper inflection, “Right?”
“Y-yes, of course--but I don’t think that we should just be arresting them solely on the basis that they look different,” he replied nervously as he cowered under her, “W-we don’t have any real evidence against them and their testimonies are inconclusive!”
“Probably just lies to cover each other’s asses,” Eris grumbled as she grabbed the bridge of her nose. “Look, I don’t have time to deal with this. You either follow my orders or I’ll have you demoted to the mail room where your parents can see where all of that expensive academy schooling went.”
“...” Unable to deal with her blackmail, Archie stood up and sighed. “...fine. I’ll…see if we can get anything out of the suspects.”
“There. Good boy. Was that so hard?” she replied with a sarcastic shrug and a roll of her eyes as she walked back over to her desk. “I swear. Fuckin’ limpdick boy scouts like you are gonna get eaten alive by reality sooner or later….” she mumbled under her breath as she flopped down in her swivel chair and turned away from him.
“W-what was that, ma’am?”
“Get me my lunch,” she called out to him, “Make it snappy. Egg salad and black coffee and I want it in the next ten minutes, Archie!”
“Y-yes ma’am!” the deputy saluted and ran out of the room.
Back at Aidon and Luna’s home…
After showering, the cerberus-man had to shake his body and flick his tails to get rid of all the excess water. The end result left his fur rather puffy as he glanced at himself in the mirror.
“...I look like a chalkboard eraser,” he lamented.
Luna meanwhile, had to deal with not only brushing her hair but her entire body’s worth of fur as well. “Ugh…how do the anthropomorphic characters in films and video games deal with this much…hairyness?”
“I haven’t the faintest idea,” Aidon huffed as he slicked his fur down. “This is getting rather bothersome, but after today, I just want to lie down and relax. We need to be on top of our game if we want to be prepared and figure out the Masked Menace’s next target.”
“I’m still trying to think of a method we can use to pinpoint who will be targeted next,” Luna squealed, flicked her tail and wriggled her ears as she left the bathroom wearing a loose-fitting tank top and pajama pants. She then sat at a computer desk nearby where she started to click through various articles for events. “They seem to want to target an area with a large number of people. There’s a chance that we could get the drop on them. Just need to figure out what I can find…”
Aidon tilted his neck and cricked his bones. “...argh. You do that, Luna. I…need a moment to lie down and rest. This form is murder on my physicality.”
Luna glanced at her computer screen and put it to sleep for the moment. She got up and went over to Aidon, nuzzling the side of his neck. “...how about you and I take a break and spend some time together, then?”
“...maybe that will help take my mind off things until we know what’s happening next.”
