Celestia had just lowered her sun and raised the moon, Silver had dozed off at an unknown hour. The snoozing hen had her head resting on top of the pile of parchment and paper, she had been reading through.

The sleeping Alicorn used her magic to relocate Silver to a large cushion and wrapped her up in a bright blue blanket. “Sleep easy Silver, I’ll continue.”

Upon returning to her desk, she heard three soft knocks at her study’s door. The handle was covered in a shimmering golden aura before twisting open to reveal Captain Sky and Dr Dig Site. She had requested for the archaeologist’s help, he had brought with him what he believed to be a deciphered print of the ancient glyphs.

“Please come in but keep your voices low, princess Silverfeather is sleeping.”

“Of course your highness.” Sky entered without hesitation but Dig Site waited at the door. “Her highness has told you to come in, so why are you just standing there?”

This brought the muddy brown earth pony out of his statue like state and he trotted in, making his way to the princess’s desk. “So princess, these are what I believe the ancient glyphs translate to in Equestrian.” He fumbled around in his two large saddle bags and unloaded piles of paper and scrolls onto the desk.

“Thank you for coming on such short notice Dr Dig Site, I really appreciate it. So this is everything you and your team have been able to find in the tomb.”

“Yes princess it is, so…. If it’s alright, would I be able to get some rest? I’ve had a little bit of a stressful day.”

“Yes of course. Captain, please escort the good Doctor to a guest room and could you have one of the butlers bring me a cup of coffee.”

“Consider it done your highness.”

“Thank you Captain and Dig, if these translations are correct then I’ll personally fund any further excavations your team take on.”

“Oh um well I have confidence in my team’s abilities your highness, they are some of the best in their respective fields.”

“You have no idea how glad I am to hear that…. Well good night doctor, I’ll chat with you tomorrow.”

“Good night princess, I’ll be looking forward to discussing what you find.”

“Yes, as will I Doctor.”

Once the Captain and Dig Site left the private study, the tired Alicorn mare ignited her horn. Charging a stamina spell up before casting it upon herself, she knew that this was going to be a long night.

Anubis’s POV

I awoke to find that the fire was still raging but instead of warm red and yellow wisps, I found a brilliant blue flame that overflowed with heat. I was sweating through my coat and the heat was getting unbearable, then Zodiac stomped it out.

“Sorry mortal, you began to shiver…. So I began to fuel the flames with hydrogen.”

“And why did it burn blue?”

“Because the fire was a hundred percent efficient as to insure you were warm.”

“Well…. Thanks, I’m very warm now…. So is it daytime now?”

“Yes, the darkness is receding, so we must get you back to the castle.”

“Sure but why must we go to the castle, other than it being the place where I was last in the waking world?”

“Because the vale between worlds is weak there.”

“But isn’t there anyplace else that’s a little closer to use, where we can find the same effect?”

The inky griffon form of the great one, wore a paradoxical look of thoughtfulness and annoyance. “Mhmmmmmmm that might actually work, I believe that there’s a weak point 3 miles south…. But there’s no telling where you might find yourself in the waking world Anubis.”

“Well if it’ll be quicker, then I say it’s worth it.”

“….Very well then.”

We began on our way south, deeper into the dangerous terrain.

As we walked through a clearing in the woods, i took the time to take in the surroundings and found that the initial terror i felt was replaced with fascination. That’s when i noticed that there was a hole off to the left, by an oddly normal shaped tree that didn’t belong.

Getting sidetracked i went to investigate the tree and found that it was from what i could tell, completely normal. But the hole i initially saw was illuminated by a spectacular green glow, anchoring my hind legs to its entrance i lowered my upper body down.

What i found was amazing, it opened up into an enormous chamber that had glyphs covering the entire room. Upon looking at them i felt a sense of kinship with this place and climbed in.

Zodiac noticed his companions absence and saw his tail disappear down the hole.

Inside the large chamber sat a stone table, that appeared to be no bigger than a small coffee table. Anubis began to fiddle with it and found that the top was loose. Pulling it off, his beak dropped upon finding the mummified remains of a small long-eared griffon with withered wings and sunken eyes. “Wow you died young, bud…. that sucks for you…. So what do these glyphs say?”

Anubis failed to notice that his claws were glowing a sickly green as he became infatuated with the walls. When he brought his claw up to press against the wall, he was shocked to find it engulfed in green. “What the ffff….”

He went stiff upon feeling a small tugging on his tail, slowly turning his head back his mind froze.

Zodiac had waited outside of the entrance for far too long and began to grow agitated, so he took himself down to find the mortal. But what he saw confused him, Anubis was holding a malnourished griffon cub in his claws. Where it had came from was unclear but from what he could tell it was from that small tomb.

“Mortal?”

“Oh Zodiac! I um have well found a…. Thing.”

“Yes I can see that but we don’t have time for it.”

“But we can’t leave it here.”

“Anubis the only reason it’s alive…. Or should I say reanimated is because you contain the Green Necrovine Artefact inside you and had subconsciously activated it. So being in proximity to you brought it back, it’s an undead.”

“Sign* normally I’d be cool with leaving it for dead but….”

“But what?”

“Maybe I could use it and give it another shot at life?”

“No it is effectively a mindless, soulless walking corpse. So abandoned the thing and let’s go.”

“It may be…. but I could fix it, in a similar fashion to that something Blood mare.”

“It wouldn’t have any sense of free will, you’d be in complete control.”

“Yes but it’ll be funny when I show it to Celestia and Silverfeather.”

That’s when the cub took them both by surprise and spoke. “E-Excuse me but are you my daddy?” It was a distinct feminine tone, Anubis’s heart would have melted if the initial shock hadn’t hit him.

“Heheheheh ~noooooooo…. But it’s late and you need sleep, so go to sleep.” Upon issuing those words the cute cub seized all movement and shut its eyes. Anubis looked to Zodiac with a grin.

“Well I’m keeping it, I could potentially use a specimen like this.”

“What? Why?”

“It’s a corpse that is reanimated and under my control, that doesn’t have a soul. And it’s so ancient that nothing will be distraught over her vanishing…. But i need to fix the condition it’s in, mhmmm fuck it, I’ll give her some of my blood.”

“Anubis?!?”

“What?”

“Do you not remember what I told you about your blood?”

“Oh I do and I’m going to use it.” He then proceeded to bite his claw and allow a few droplets of blood to fall in the cub’s mouth.

The effects was nearly immediate as the cub’s body began to fill out, the little one stayed asleep and Anubis bit the scruff of it’s neck, carrying it out of it’s tomb.

His first thought was to give Celestia and Silver a scare by saying it’s his but then saw the inconsistencies. So he decided to put it in a state of comatose sleep for the time being, after all it didn’t have a soul. He wanted to see if it was possible to put a soul into the body.

This was good in his eyes, not only did he have a new research project. But the reason he had Zodiac find a different location is because he wanted to set up an outpost where he could conduct more dangerous experiments and potentially build a portal back to the Dreamscape.

For he was not done in this place.

They had been walking for about two hours now and Zodiac finally came to a halt. “This is the place Anubis, so are you and your new “project” ready?”

“Yep but before you send me home, could you give me the knowledge of how the portals between dimensions work?”

“Sigh* I already knew you would ask, so open your mouth.”

Anubis grinned and laid the cub on the ground before opening his mouth, upon doing so a black inky tentacle shot down his throat and he blacked out.

When he came to, the griff found himself in a dark but normal looking forest. Next to him was the cub, Anubis jumped up to his claws upon hearing a loud flurry of howls. The griff in his disorientated state picked up the cub and flew up into a tree.

It was night and he was back in Equestria, with the little one and knowledge to go back and forth. After building a makeshift basket to hold the cub, he began on constructing a large research post here.

By the time the sun rose from beyond the horizon and the first warm rays of light hit the side of a very tired griffon’s face, a smug grin adorned his features. In front of him was a large house…. Or mansion of sorts. He had gotten carried away with turning dirt into wood, brick, stone and glass to construct this place.

He even took the liberty to furnish the house with the bare minimum that was required to live comfortably in. It also had a basement which would be an underground facility and house the portal he planned to build.

Anubis then proceeded to retrieve the cub and placed it inside a steel box with a pillow inside. He then commanded the cub to stay asleep until told otherwise.

He sat down on the large wooden deck and began to ponder. Was that cub completely soulless? How could he tell? He had full control over it but the fact that it asked him if he was her father unsettled Anubis but he shock it off and reminded himself that it was only reanimated thanks to the Artefact. As soon as he left it’s proximity it would become completely unresponsive to any and all stimulus.

Spreading his magnificent wings, he thrusted himself into the sky and proceeded to carried himself back to Canterlot. But then something dawned on him, the soulless husk that he had living amongst high society. Was she still reanimated and more importantly, does that mean the cub could be self sufficient…. And then he had another realisation, he had given the cub his blood.

With an annoyed groan and a mighty flap, he shot off toward the capital city on the mountain.

As the castle came into view, he noticed that there was a lot more guards on patrol. But none of them noticed a large gray and white griff with orange and red wings flying overhead.

So continuing on his way to Canterlot Castle, he flew undetected by anycreature. Once he made it to his balcony he swiftly went in and opened up the wall behind his bed. Placing his journal, he then closed it and flew out, making his way to Celestia’s sleeping quarters where he was met by nothing. This worried Anubis and he began to pace but then he heard Zodiac. “Mortal, they are in the private study.”

“Oh hey Zodiac, thanks and I need to speak with you later about the cub.”

“You mean the carcass of a cub that you reanimated.”

“Yes that one, anyway I’ll talk later.”

Swinging the doors wide open, taking the two guards by surprise he quickly apologised and flew down the hallway, down the spiral staircase and toward Celestia’s private study.

Coming to a sudden halt he began to pace outside of the door, trying to come up with a way to explain why and where he had been for the past three days. After coming up with a haft decent explanation, he gingerly opened the door and immediately found a spear at his throat.

“Halt intruder…. Anubis?”

“Captains?”

But before anycreature could react, the griff was invented by a golden aura and dragged into a tired Alicorn’s hooves. Upon seeing this Graceful and Sky decided to take Dr Dig Site and go, leaving Celestia to fuss and interrogate Anubis. Silverfeather was still sound asleep.

“Oh Anubis sniffle* are you well? Do you have any injuries? Cuts, aches or anything the doesn’t feel right? Y-Your wings are healed? And your fur? Anubis what happened?” Whilst interrogating him, she was spinning him around in her aura. Checking his body.

“Please enough of the spinning Celestia, I know it’s been three days but I’m back I’m safe and all healed up.”

She stopped the inspection and stared at him in disbelief. “Anubis, it’s only been a day. A-are you feeling alright?” She then proceeded to remove her chest peace and laid him against her. “Please explain what gave you that impression.”

“Celestia I’m not lying to you, three days really have passed.”

“I’m not saying you are, I can tell you’re telling the truth sweetie.” She then proceeded to guide him into a kiss.

“Look I…. If I tell you, you won’t think I’m crazy? You’re not allowed to think I’m crazy.”

“Oh Anubis listen to me, I’m not going to do anything drastic. You can trust me.”

“Heheh, thanks…. T-the Dreamscape…. I was teleported to the Dreamscape, it wasn’t pleasant by any means but I found a way back and that’s all that matters.”

Celestia just looked at him in complete shock, had he really been to that place? The fantasy world that her sister tried so desperately to visit. But none of this made any sense, Luna had turned to dark magic in order to find a way there and was driven mad and grew Jealous of the day. “A-Anubis, are you sure it was the Dreamscape, because it’s as far as I know a fantasy place within one’s mind. A plane beyond the Dream realm, that holds nightmares.”

“Like I said it doesn’t matter now, I’m back safe. With you and snoring beauty over there…. So let’s just move on from this please, I shouldn’t have said anything.”

“Oh no no no I don’t think you’re mad or delusional…. But I’d prefer to have Dr Tender run a few tests to make sure you all okay, if that’s alright Anubis?”

He laid there against her soft chest, listening to her heart as it pumped oxygenated blood around her body. Thinking her suggestion over. “I guess it can’t hurt…. But only because I don’t need help or have any issues with my mind.”

“Thank you AnuBIS!?!” He nipped her neck and the regal Alicorn’s wings shot up and a deep blush adorned her cheeks. “Really? Whilst Silver’s asleep?”

“Oh shush, let’s just stay like this for a bit longer…. And I have a question for you, is there any spell or way to allow me and her to…. You know go at it like we do?”

She licked his ear tip and whispered. “I’m sure there’s a spell or two I might know. If you want we could test them out later?”

“I’m sure she’ll love to…. After we pry her off me that is. Her breathing is ragged, I take it that she didn’t handle it well.”

“No but she took it better than I expected, she help me out a lot but we still didn’t get any closer to finding you….”

“But you still gave it you all, Celestia even I can tell that you hadn’t got an ounce of sleep, for crying out loud you have bags under your eyes.”

“Huff* it’s not that bad….”

“Oh shut up Swan Neck and get some sleep, that cushion is looking mighty comfortable right now.”

“Hehehe I guess I can take a little nap…. But a certain hen is taking up all the space.”

“Then let’s go and get comfortable.”

Celestia laid down and pulled an unconscious hen against her barrel and Silver snuggled up to her. “Wow, that’s definitely an enticing sight, I’ll just be over here watching.”

“Excuse me but get those soft wings and firm flanks over here mister.”

Giggling, he snuggles up to them and blanketed a wing over them. Silver was wrapped in a cocoon of warm, soft fur and feathers, an eased smile on her beak. Whilst the two awake occupants traded nips, nuzzles and kisses.

This consistent playing around disturbed a snoozing Silverfeather and she threw an instinctive upper cut into his beak. This took Anubis by surprise, Celestia was shocked at first but then noticed the grumpy hen nuzzling into his chest fluff. “Psssss are you alright?”

“Yeah just shocked is all, so I take it we were to loud…. It’s cute that she hasn’t realised yet but I say we let her sleep.”

“So you can make smart decisions.”

“Oh shut up and close your eyes…. And I’m going hunting tomorrow a 6PM.”

“Huff* well I’ve got to catch up on my duties because somegriff likes to be thrown between worlds.”

“It’s not like I wanted to.”

“I know….”
