Chapter 3

Officer Ethan and a few other officers surrounded Sugarcoat, offering words of comfort and support as she tried to process the terrifying events that had just unfolded in her home. Tears streaked down her cheeks as she struggled to make sense of the horror she had experienced.

Amidst the chaos, Sugarcoat's voice quivered as she finally mustered the strength to ask the question that had been weighing heavily on her mind, "How did you know that the killer was in my house? How did you get here so quickly?"

Officer Ethan, a seasoned veteran of the force, gently placed a hand on Sugarcoat's shoulder, his eyes filled with empathy. "Your neighbors heard your screams and immediately called the police. We received their frantic call and rushed to your aid as quickly as we could. We were here to help you, Sugarcoat. You're safe now."

As Sugarcoat nodded in understanding, a new presence made itself known. A determined and ambitious reporter named Amanda Daniels stepped forward she had short black hair that reached her ears, and her skin was a light tan, her eyes bright with curiosity and determination. "Ms. Sugarcoat, I'm Amanda Daniels, a reporter for the local news. I understand that you've been through a truly harrowing experience, and I would like to interview you about your encounter with the killer. Your story could help raise awareness and possibly lead to catching this dangerous individual."

Sugarcoat's eyes widened in alarm at the prospect of reliving her trauma through the media, but Amanda's persistence was unwavering. The reporter seemed intent on getting the scoop, regardless of Sugarcoat's emotional state or reluctance to delve back into the nightmare she had just survived.

As the officers and Amanda Daniels continued their discussions, Sugarcoat felt a wave of conflicting emotions wash over her. She knew that sharing her story could potentially help others, but at what cost to her own well-being and peace of mind?

The decision weighed heavily on Sugarcoat's heart as she grappled with the aftermath of the chilling events that had shaken her to the core.

Officer Ethan, who had been observing Amanda Daniels' relentless pursuit of an interview with Sugarcoat, felt a growing sense of frustration building within him. As Amanda continued to press the traumatized teen for a statement, Ethan stepped forward, his tone firm and unwavering.

"Ms. Daniels, with all due respect, Sugarcoat is in no condition to be hounded by the press right now. She has just been through a horrific ordeal, and her well-being should be our top priority," Ethan stated, his voice tinged with underlying annoyance.

Amanda's expression hardened as she countered, "I understand that, Officer, but as a reporter, it is my job to seek out the truth and share important stories with the public. Sugarcoat's experience could help bring attention to a dangerous criminal on the loose."

Ethan's jaw clenched in frustration at Amanda's persistence, but he remained steadfast in his resolve to protect Sugarcoat from any further distress. "I appreciate your dedication to your work, but I cannot allow you to exploit Sugarcoat's vulnerability for a headline. She needs time to heal and process what she has been through. Respect her privacy and give her the space she deserves."

A tense silence hung in the air as Amanda contemplated Ethan's words, her desire for a story conflicting with the officer's concern for Sugarcoat's well-being. After a moment of reflection, Amanda reluctantly nodded, acknowledging the gravity of the situation.

Relieved that the reporter had relented, Ethan turned his attention back to Sugarcoat, offering a reassuring smile and a promise to ensure her safety and peace of mind. As the officers guided Sugarcoat to a quiet room away from the chaos, Ethan made a mental note to keep a watchful eye on Amanda Daniels, knowing that the determined reporter would not easily be deterred in her quest for a story.

With Sugarcoat's best interests at heart, Ethan remained vigilant, determined to shield her from any further intrusion or exploitation as she began the daunting journey towards healing and recovery.

As Officer Ethan continued to keep a watchful eye on Amanda Daniels, the reporter approached him with a small, weather-worn photograph in hand. "Officer Ethan, I found this photo in Sugarcoat's garden. It looks like a young teen, perhaps 14 or 15 years old," Amanda explained, her curiosity piqued. "I thought it might be relevant to the case."

Ethan examined the photo closely and he recognized the crystal prep uniform worn by the teen in the image. The same uniform that Sugarcoat herself wore to school. His suspicions heightened, Ethan turned to Sugarcoat, his expression grave.

"Sugarcoat, do you know who this young boy is in the photo?" Ethan's voice was gentle, yet insistent as he held out the photograph for her to see.

Sugarcoat's heart skipped a beat as she gazed at the familiar face of the teen in the picture, her mind racing with memories of days long gone. "I-I don't know him," she stammered, her voice betraying a hint of unease.

Ethan studied Sugarcoat's reaction closely, sensing her hesitation and inner turmoil. He could see the flicker of recognition in her eyes, despite her denial. "Sugarcoat, this boy is wearing the same uniform as you. Are you sure you don't recognize him?" he pressed, his tone gentle yet probing.

Torn between her desire to protect her past and the growing weight of the truth, Sugarcoat closed her eyes briefly before meeting Ethan's gaze with a forced smile. "I'm sorry, Officer, but I truly don't know who he is," she replied, her voice tinged with a hint of sadness.

Ethan's instincts told him that Sugarcoat was hiding something, but he respected her need for privacy and didn't press further. As he pocketed the photograph, a lingering sense of unease settled in his mind, knowing that there was more to the story than Sugarcoat was willing to reveal.

As he left Sugarcoat to her thoughts, Ethan made a mental note to investigate the mystery of the young boy in the photo further, determined to uncover the truth behind the connection to Sugarcoat's past and its potential ties to the chilling events that had recently unfolded in her life. The investigation had only just begun, and the answers that awaited them were shrouded in shadows of secrets yet to be revealed.

As Sugarcoat grappled with the guilt and sorrow of Solar Comet's tragic death, her thoughts drifted to the dark shadow that loomed over the aftermath of the hazing incident. It was Abacus Cinch, the former school principal, who had covered up the incident to protect the prestigious reputation of Crystal Prep Academy.

In the depths of her mind, Sugarcoat recalled the chilling warning that Cinch had issued to the students involved in the hazing prank. She remembered the fear in their eyes as Cinch warned them that speaking a word about the incident could mean facing prison time. Their lives would be over, their futures shattered by the consequences of their actions.

The memory sent a shiver down Sugarcoat's spine as she realized the extent of Cinch's manipulation and control. The former principal had wielded power and authority like a weapon, using fear and intimidation to silence those who knew the truth. The weight of that knowledge weighed heavily on Sugarcoat's conscience, a reminder of the web of deceit and corruption that had entangled them all.

As she grappled with the harsh reality of Cinch's cover-up and the impact it had on their lives, Sugarcoat knew that she had to find a way to break free from the hold of fear and secrecy. The truth had to come to light, no matter the cost, for the sake of justice and closure for Solar Comet and all those whose lives had been touched by the tragedy. The road ahead was fraught with danger and uncertainty, but Sugarcoat was determined to forge ahead, guided by the light of truth and the promise of redemption.

As Sugarcoat grappled with the weight of the past and the haunting memories of Solar Comet's tragic death, a nagging question gnawed at the back of her mind. How did the killer know about the incident? Could it be that one of her friends or the students involved had broken their vow of silence and confided in someone else?

The thought sent a shiver down Sugarcoat's spine, a chill of betrayal and fear creeping into her thoughts. She had thought that the dark secret of Solar Comet's death was buried deep within the hearts of those who had been involved, a shared burden of guilt and regret that they all bore. But now, faced with the reality that someone had betrayed their trust and exposed the truth, Sugarcoat couldn't help but question the loyalty and integrity of those around her.

A sense of unease settled over Sugarcoat as she grappled with the unsettling possibility that one of her friends or fellow students had broken their silence, potentially putting all of their lives in danger. The consequences of their actions could be catastrophic, not just for themselves but for everyone involved in the tragic chain of events that had led to Solar Comet's untimely demise.

As she pondered the implications of this unsettling revelation, Sugarcoat knew that she had to confront the truth head-on and uncover the identity of the betrayer. The road ahead was fraught with uncertainty and trepidation, but she was determined to unravel the mystery and bring justice to Solar Comet's memory, no matter the cost. The shadows of the past may be dark and foreboding, but Sugarcoat was determined to shine a light on the truth and seek redemption for the sins of their shared past.

As the cops were escorting her to get her to a safer place as it was now obvious that the killer was targeting her, Ethan walked up to her, "Hey listen Sugarcoat is there anyplace you could stay where you could feel safe." asked the officer.

"My friend Sour Sweet lives just a couple of blocks away I'll feel more comfortable staying with her." she said feeling exhausted after tonight's events.

"Aright then sounds good I'll call the residence and let them know you're coming" said Ethan. As Sugarcoat was driven to Sour Sweet's house by the police, her heart pounded in her chest, fear and uncertainty gnawing at her insides. She couldn't shake the feeling of being watched, of being followed by unseen eyes that threatened her every move. The events of that night had left her shaken to the core, and the thought of returning to her empty, silent house filled her with dread.

Upon reaching Sour Sweet's doorstep, Sugarcoat knocked urgently, her hands trembling as she waited for her friend to answer. When the door swung open, revealing Sour Sweet's concerned expression, Sugarcoat felt a sense of relief wash over her. Without a word, she stepped inside and hugged her crying uncontrollably, seeking comfort and solace in the familiar surroundings of her friend's home.

Sugarcoat's hands trembled as she sat on Sour Sweet's couch, recounting the horrifying events of the night. "I was attacked, Sour," she whispered, her voice shaky with emotion. "I barely managed to escape. And the worst part is, the killer left behind a photo of Solar Comet. It's like they knew how much it would terrify me."

Sour Sweet gasped, her eyes wide with shock and worry. "Sugar, that's terrifying. I can't believe someone would do something like that to you." She reached out and squeezed Sugarcoat's hand, a silent gesture of solidarity.

Tears welled in Sugarcoat's eyes as she poured out her heart to her friend, the words tumbling out in a rush of fear and anxiety. "I don't feel safe anywhere, Sour. I don't know what to do or where to turn."

Sour Sweet's expression softened with compassion as she listened, her voice filled with empathy. "You're safe here, Sugar. I won't let anything happen to you. We'll figure this out together, I promise."

And as they sat there, the weight of their shared burden lightened by their friendship and resolve, Sugarcoat felt a glimmer of hope ignite within her. With Sour Sweet by her side, she knew that she was not alone in her fight for justice and truth. Together, they would confront the shadows of the past and emerge victorious, no matter the challenges that lay ahead.

Sugarcoat shifted on the couch, her mind swirling with thoughts and doubts. She took a deep breath before turning to Sour Sweet, her eyes searching for answers. "Do you ever wonder, Sour, if the school truly changed? I mean, we all knew what it was like under Principal Cinch's rule. It was ruthless, cutthroat. Students stepping over each other to get ahead, and Cinch egging it on. Do you think... do you think any of us should have just faced the consequences of our actions back then?"

Sour Sweet furrowed her brow, considering Sugarcoat's words carefully. She knew exactly what her friend was getting at. The guilt weighing on their hearts, the shadows of their past actions looming over them like a dark cloud. "I've thought about it, Sugar. And truth be told, I've often wondered if what we did in the past is coming back to haunt us now. Maybe we should have faced the music back then, instead of running from it."

Sugarcoat nodded solemnly, her eyes clouded with regret. "It's like we created this... this cycle of negativity, Sour. And now it's like history is repeating itself. Solar Comet, the attacks... it's all too familiar. Maybe if we had owned up to our mistakes before, things would be different now."

"We need to talk to the others tomorrow not just Indigo, Lemon and Sunny, I mean everyone else who was involved in the prank back in sophomore year" said Sugarcoat with Sour nodding her head in agreement, just then Sour's mom walked into the room holding a phone, "hey Sugar someone's on the phone for you" she said as she handed the phone to Sugarcoat.

Sugarcoat wiped away a tear as she agreed with Sour Sweet about talking to all the others involved in the prank from sophomore year. "We need to face this head-on, together," she said firmly, her determination shining through.

Just then, Sour Sweet's mom walked into the room holding a phone. "Hey, Sugar, someone's on the phone for you," she said, handing the phone to Sugarcoat with a concerned look in her eyes. Sugarcoat took the phone, her heart pounding in her chest. She put the phone to her ear, she spoke. "Hello?"

"~Hello Sugarcoat~"

A cold, menacing voice echoed through the phone, sending shivers down Sugarcoat's spine. It was the killer, taunting her once again, his words filled with malice and cruelty. Sugarcoat's hand shook as she listened, the memories of the past flooding back and overwhelming her.

"Nooo" cried Sugarcoat tears began to stream down Sugarcoat's face as she tried to hold back a sob. Sour Sweet and her mother exchanged worried glances, concern etched on their faces as they watched Sugarcoat crumble before them.

Through her tears, Sugarcoat managed to choke out a question, her voice breaking with emotion. "Wh-what do you want?" she asked, the fear and despair evident in her voice. "In due time, Sugarcoat, you will know what I want," the killer taunted, his words dripping with malice and menace. "But until then, how many friends are you willing to see gruesomely killed before I reveal to you who I really am?"

Sugarcoat's breath caught in her throat, her hands trembling as the realization of the killer's twisted game sunk in. The thought of her friends being in danger, their lives hanging in the balance, sent a surge of fear and desperation through her veins.

Sour Sweet and her mother watched in horror as Sugarcoat's facade crumbled, her tears flowing freely as she tried to process the gravity of the situation. The killer's sinister laughter echoed through the phone, adding another layer of terror to the already tense atmosphere.

As Sugarcoat struggled to regain her composure, the weight of the killer's words hung heavy in the air. The stakes had been raised, and the danger they faced had become all too real. With a heavy heart, Sugarcoat knew that they were in for a long and perilous journey ahead and as she looked into the eyes of her friend and Sour Sweet's mother, she knew that they would need to stand together if they wanted to survive this nightmare.

After a tumultuous night filled with fear and uncertainty, Sugarcoat and Sour Sweet who had barely gotten any sleep last night found themselves standing in the school courtyard the next day. The sun was just beginning to rise, casting a soft glow over the grounds as they waited for the rest of the students to arrive.

Sugarcoat felt a sense of unease settle in her stomach as she glanced at Sour Sweet, knowing that both of them held a shared secret that now placed them all in grave danger. Sour Sweet stood by her side, her expression grim and determined.

One by one, the students began to trickle into the courtyard, their faces reflecting a mixture of confusion and apprehension. Jet Set, Upper Crust, Neon Lights, Suri Polomare, Trenderhoof, Royal Pin, Sunny Flare, Sour Sweet, Indigo Zap, Sugarcoat, Lemon Zest, all gathered in a somber silence.

As the group assembled, Sugarcoat took a deep breath, steeling herself for the difficult conversation that lay ahead. She knew that they needed to address the looming threat that the killer posed and confront the dark secrets of their past actions.

The air was tense with anticipation, and as Sugarcoat prepared to speak, she couldn't help but feel a sense of dread creeping over her. The events of the previous night still lingered in her mind, and the realization of the danger they were all in weighed heavily on her shoulders.

The scene ends as the last of the students join the group, their eyes silently questioning and fearful, awaiting the discussion that was about to unfold. The courtyard stood quiet, a sense of foreboding settling over the tense gathering as they prepared to face the truth of their shared past and the deadly consequences that now threatened them all.
