Equestria has faced threat after threat, enemy after enemy, and all manner of disasters. So when a new force claims they will conquer the kingdom, the Princesses do not take this too seriously. They were wrong. Iron Chain, Emperor of the Minotaur Empire, has launched numerous successful attacks against the kingdom of Equestria. Unfortunately, this has forced Princess Celestia to make an impossible choice. She could lose her kingdom, seeing all the citizens enslaved. Or, she could give the Minotaur Emperor he sister, Princess Luna. With a heavy heart, she chose the latter.
