A Great and Powerful Performance

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

At the turtles lair, the ninjas and Rainbooms were doing some morning exercises in the dojo while the Hex Squad were relaxing and going over things. Suddenly Trixie burst in and spoke to Gus and the Blight twins.

“Gus! Edric! Emira! Thank goodness I found you!”

“What's going on, Trixie?” Edric asked.

“You're being real frantic.” Emira noted.

“I really need your help now! It's something very important!” Trixie continued in a rush.

“Just our help?” Gus wondered, “Shouldn't we get the others?”

“No, it's something only you guys can do.”

“But what is it?” Edric inquired.

“There's no time to explain! Please, it's a matter of life and death!” the magic girl pleaded.

Gus despite his suspicions was too engrossed by Trixie's pleas, “Alright I'll help out.”

“We will too.” Emira agreed with Edric still wondering what they were needed for.

“Great, come on!” Trixie grabbed the three and dragged them out of the lair.

The others watched them leave feeling confused, “Wonder what that's all about?” Luz raised a brow.

“Oh, with stage magicians ya never know.” Eda replied.

Up on the surface, Trixie brought the three illusionist witches to Central Park where a large crowd of people was gathering.

“What a crowd.” Edric noticed.

“It really must be urgent.” Gus suspected.

“It is. A life is on the line if you don't accomplish this dire task!” Trixie continued explaining dramatically.

Emira suspicious of Trixie's words asked, “So what is it?”

“All you three have to do is get in those bushes and wait there,” Trixie hands them a list, “And when I announce these illusions listed here, you'll cast them. Thanks again, guys!” she hurried off leaving the three confused.

Emira spoke to the boys, “Don't any of you find this all a little odd? Trixie coming to us out of the blue with some vague important mission? Usually Leo or Jake are the ones who get word of missions, and they're straight to the point unlike her.”

“I know it seems so sudden,” Gus admitted but shrugged it off, “But we're helping out a friend, aren't we?”

“I don't know if I'd call Trixie a 'friend'. More like a friend of friends.” Edric explained.

“Well, even so. We got a job to do so we might as well do it.” Gus said, as he and the Blight twins went into the bush to await orders.

Meanwhile Trixie stood upon a stage the crowd of people were gathered before, and announced, “Greetings, citizens of New York. For I am the Great and Powerful Trixie!” the crowd cheered, “For my first trick, I shall summon a creature the likes of which you've never seen before.”

She used her stage wand moving it in a pattern, “Behold... A manticore!”

Hearing that, Gus used his illusion magic to make a manticore appear on stage next to Trixie roaring at the audience who backed away from the stage in shock and fright.

“Never fear for the Great and Powerful Trixie will make it... disappear!” suddenly the illusion of the manticore vanished and the crowd seeing this applauded, “Thank you, thank you! You're too kind.”

“Well, it worked.” Gus whispered to the twins.

“But what actually worked? You just cast an illusion.” Emira reminded him.

“Would you all like to see something bigger?” Trixie asked her audience.

“Yeah!”

“Then behold one of the biggest of ursine ever, Ursa Major!” she called, and the twins hearing that used their magic to conjure an Ursa Major that appeared behind the stage. Its incredible tall height towered over the whole audience who looked up as far as they could.

“Marvelous, isn't it?” Trixie asked joyfully, “And now to make it disappear!” she waved her stage wand, “Presto!” and the twins made the illusion of the creature vanish. The crowd once again applauded and cheered.

Trixie continued with her show as the illusionist witches aided her by making it look like multiple Trixie's appeared out of thin air, and even made it look like several members of the audiences heads had been replaced with animal heads. The ones who thought their heads transformed were in shock before they were changed back to normal. The more the audience applauded the more Trixie was soaking in the glory.

The three witches continued to hide in the bushes while following Trixie's instructions, despite not knowing what was going on and started to feel bored.

“When can we come out of this bush?” Edric asked.

“Not until Trixie gives us the ok.” Gus reminded him.

“But we've been doing nothing but casting illusions for her, and it doesn't look like anything bad's been happening.” Emira replied.

“I can't believe you boneheads actually bought this!” the three looked to see Raph along with Twilight, and Spike.

“What're you three doing here?” Edric asked.

“After training we saw you three were gone.” Twilight began.

“Luz said Trixie dragged you off claiming there was something important she needed you for.” Spike added.

“And surprise-surprise, this is what we find.” Raph finished dryly.

“But what do you mean?” Gus wondered, as the turtle continued.

“Trixie lied to you guys. There's no danger.”

“Don't you three find it strange she didn't share any exact details about this quote-unquote serious mission she needed you for?” Twilight inquired with her hands on her hips.

“Well yeah, Ed and I did.” Emira admitted.

“And we still do.” Edric agreed.

“What're you getting at, Twilight?” Gus asked.

“Look out of the bush.” Spike instructed.

The three witches looked past the bush they hid in to see Trixie had been using their illusions for her magic show.

“I knew it!” Emira scowled.

“Matter of life and death, huh?!” Edric frowned.

Gus looked on feeling really hurt, while remembering the last time he was used by others back on the Boiling Isles, “Even here I'm taken advantage of.”

Emira spoke, “You know, maybe we should make Trixie's show even 'more great and powerful'.” she grinned mischievously.

“Sis, you read my mind.” Edric agreed.

“I'm in.” Gus added with a serious look.

Trixie continued with her show confident enough her 'assistants' would not fail her, “And now I shall pull a rabbit out of my hat!” she reached into her hat but instead of pulling out a rabbit she pulled out the head of a wolf. This confused the audience, as Trixie quickly stuffed the wolf head back into the hat, “Whoops, that ain't it!” she reached in again and pulled out a lion's head that roared. She quickly stuffed it back in, “Seems the rabbit is elusive, but the Great and Powerful Trixie shall not be defied!” she reached in again and pulled out a slitherbeast that roared at Trixie who screamed and dropped the hat as the creature sunk back into the hat.

The crowd laughed, as Trixie tried to compose herself, “Well, forget the rabbit. Let's move onto something else, shall we?” when she tried to make flowers appear in a vase, the flowers actually sprout out of her shirt making the audience laugh some more. Trixie scowled to herself, but kept trying to get the crowds applause back.

“And now watch as the Great and Powerful Trixie makes it rain on you!” she declared hoping it wouldn't go wrong, but Edric using some potions tossed one over above Trixie making a mound of snow appear burying her. To add more to it, Edric tossed another potion that melted the snow leaving Trixie all wet.

The audience laughed at Trixie who could no longer take the heckling and just ran off stage. Back with the others they laughed at the pranks, but Gus deciding he had his fun spoke, “Ok, we had our laugh. Now let's go talk to her.”

“Fair enough.” Emira agreed, as they went after her.

They eventually found Trixie by a tree, as Raph spoke, "So, Ms. Great and Powerful, what do you gotta-" he paused when he and noticed Trixie clutching her heart and panting heavily, “Trixie, are you ok?” he asked.

“She's having a panic attack!” Twilight gasped.

And she was, "I'm ruined I'm ruined I'm ruined I'm ruined I'm ruined I'm ruined I'm ruined!" She cried, gasping for breath.

"Hey," Gus put a hand on her shoulder, “Take it easy, Trixie. Let me help.” he began showing her the breathing exercise Willow taught him. Trixie followed along before her panicking subsided, "Better?" He asked.

"Y-yes," Trixie replied. “Thank you. I needed that.”

“Well, we'd like to know what this was all about?” Edric asked, as they confronted her.

“Did you literally bring us out here just to be assistants in your magic show?” Emira asked rhetorically.

Trixie seeing no way around it confessed, “Ok, I lied about the serious mission. I just wanted my show to be extra spectacular and I felt your illusions would be just what I needed.”

“Why didn't you just ask us?” Emira asked.

“Yeah, we would've been on board with it.” Edric admitted.

Trixie sighed, “I thought you'd all say no, since Twilight here always says no whenever I ask for her help.”

“Not after you tried to saw Spike in half I wouldn't!” Twilight replied scowling.

“She tried to what with you?” Gus asked the dog.

“Don't ask.”

“And... I also didn't want to look desperate by asking for help.” Trixie finished.

“Why would you be concerned about that?” Gus wondered.

“Back home in Canterlot, no one takes me seriously as a Great and Powerful magician, instead they see me as a Great and Powerful joke!”

“Not that hard with your act,” Raph snarked, only for Trixie to shove her hat over his face, “Hey!”

“See what I mean?” she stated dryly before looking down, resting her arms on her knees, “I thought if I could dazzle the people with my tricks accompanied by illusion magic then everyone would see me as Great and Powerful,” she sighed, “But now they won't.” she motioned to the audience still standing around laughing with hecklers calling her demeaning titles and names. Three of them was the bully Barry and his goons, Zeke and Luke.

"Great and Powerful? More like Lame and Laughable!" Barry mocked.

"What a hack!" Zeke said.

"Her greatest trick should be a disappearing act!" Luke taunted.

Hearing all that, Trixie covered her face like she was about to cry. Gus and the Twins looked at each other and knew while it was wrong of Trixie to deceive them, pranking her like that wasn't the best thing to do.

Finally, Gus spoke, “Look, Trixie, lying to us was wrong, but we were wrong too for humiliating you like that. So, maybe we can still help you.”

“You can?” Trixie asked excitedly.

“We can?” the twins asked confused.

“Yes. But, on three conditions.” Gus continued.

“I'm listening.” Trixie said.

“First off, we expect an apology for this deception.”

“I understand. I am sorry for using you guys. Sometimes I don't always think before acting.”

“Like someone else we know.” Spike added while giving a smug look to Raph who frowned.

“Two: Just ask us for our help.”

“Ok. Would you three be willing to help me with my magic show?” Trixie asked.

“Why yes we shall. Won't we, guys?” Gus asked the Blight twins.

“Sure ok.” Emira replied.

“We got our fun out of the way.” Edric added.

“So what is your third condition?” Trixie wondered, as Gus smirked.

Soon Trixie returned to the stage via a smoke bombs poof, along with her clothes dried off. She ignored the laughing and spoke, “Well, I hope you enjoyed those warm up stunts with a bit of comedy thrown in. But now I would like you to join me in welcoming to the stage my three Great and Powerful Assistants!”

Appearing on stage with her were the three witches, as Trixie continued, “Meet Gus! Edric! And Emira!” the three waved, as the audience started to cheer and applause for the newcomers.

Twilight, Spike, and Raph watched, as the four started to put on a better magic show, with the three witches feeling better knowing they were credited for their work, while Trixie worked in her own tricks. Barry, Zeke, and Luke just pointed and laughed at her again. But Trixie smirked and threw a smoke bomb at the three, while Gus and the Twins made it look like she had changed their heads into pigs. Shocked, the bullies ran off squealing like actual pigs. Raph couldn't help but chuckle at the scene.

"Okay, I'll admit it," he said, “This ain't too bad a performance.”

“They do make quite a team.” Spike agreed.

“They sure do.” Twilight nodded, as she was filming the performance that was being live fed to Sunset's phone while she and everyone else back in the lair was watching Trixie and the three perform. Mikey, Pinkie, Casey, Rainbow, Eda, and King laughed at what the four had done to Barry, Zeke, and Luke.

“That's our Gus!” Luz cheered.

“At least my sibs are behaving.” Amity sighed in relief.
