The Rise of the Cybermares

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

The Doctor stood in stunned silence. The Cybermares were one of his greatest threats. They would take ponies (and other pony-like creatures) and turn them into Cybermares. However, he thought they had been wiped out after the Time War, but now, he could clearly see the two mares almost identical to his old foes.

The Doctor didn’t move. He wanted to save his companion, but something in his body stopped him. There shouldn’t be any threats like this in Equestria. And if the Cybermares survived... what else did?

All of this ran through the Doctors mind. He stood there watching them. Two demons from his past.

Finally, the Doctor drew his strength. He charged at the Cybermares. Both horns started glowing, signifying a magic beam. The Doctor ran toward it, faster than he felt he had ever run. He jumped, spinning around to where his rear was facing the cybermares. He pulled his hind legs back, ready to kick. When he was close, he pushed his legs back hitting one of the cybermares.

The Doctor landed on the ground and looked up. One of the cybermares was still there (preparing a magical attack), but the other was far away. While he knew he had hit them hard, he didn’t think it was that hard.

He looked at Derpy. While she was partly free, she was still too weak to free herself entirely. Instead of struggling to free herself, she was looking to the right (the Doctor’s left). Looking at the remaining cybermare, so were they.

Looking to his left, the Doctor saw three ponies: The one in front was a Unicorn with a mint coat, cyan mane (with a streak of white), Sunglow eyes, and a cutie mark of a Lyre. The one behind her was an Earth pony with a beige coat, blue mane (with a streak of rose), cerulean eyes, and a cutie mark of three candies. The last was an Alicorn with a yellowish gray coat, red mane (with a streak purple), purple eyes with glasses, and a cutie mark of a crescent moon with three stars.

From the looks of things, the unicorn just fired off a blast of magic. The Doctor didn’t hear it from his laser focus on hitting the Cybermare. That is most likely what sent the Cybermare back so far. The unicorn started to charge another attack. The Earth pony yelled, “Get back!”

The Doctor wanted to help his friend and these other ponies take the Cybermares down; however, if he tried to kick the other Cybermare, he would just get in the way of the Unicorn. So, in hopes of being able to rescue Derpy fast, he ran to the group of mares to his left, standing beside the Earth pony.

The Unicorn and the Cybermare were in a standoff. Out of corner of his ear, the Doctor heard the Alicorn charging a magic attack. After what felt like an eternity, the Alicorn and Unicorn fired off their attack. The Cybermare tried to attack but it was too late. They went further back than the first, who was now getting closer.

Derpy was finally free. However, with the first Cybermare approaching, they couldn’t celebrate. The Alicorn turned around and yelled to them, “Follow us!”

Not wanting to be captured (or captured a second time in the case of Derpy) The Doctor and Derpy sprinted after the three mares. They ran back through the streets of Ponyville when the Doctor remembered something. “My sonic screwdriver!” He shouted. “It’s in the Tardis! It might assist in taking down the Cybermares!”

The three mares looked back at him. Though they hadn’t known him for long or even known his name, they looked at him with something the Doctor could tell they had not had in a while... hope.

“Lead the way,” The Alicorn stated, “Erm... what was your name?”

“Call me The Doctor,” He replied.

“Doctor?” The Unicorn asked. “Doctor who?”

The Doctor just smirked. “Exactly,” he said. “Follow me! Allons-y!” The Doctor started running to where the Tardis was. He was filled with a new sense of determination now that his friend was free.

He rushed to the Tardis, only to find an empty lot. “No,” The Doctor whispered. “No, no, no, no, no!” ran around the area looking for any trace of the Tardis, but he found nothing.

“Is that your ‘Tardis,’” the Earth pony said pointing up.

The Doctor looked up and saw at least 8 Cybermen carrying away the Tardis. “No,” was all he could say. The Doctor fell. With everything that had happened in the last half an hour alone, he didn’t know what to do.

The Alicorn put a hoof on the Doctor. “I’m sorry Doctor,” she started, “but with that many Cybermares, there’s no way we can win. I know where we can go without the threat of Cybermares. Will you come?”

The Doctor looked up at her. Her mane looked like Twilight’s. He believed her. He took her hoof and got back on his hooves. Wordlessly he nodded. “Lead the way,” The Doctor said with determination.

The Alicorn started galloping away with the rest of the ponies close behind. They galloped through the streets of Ponyville, occasionally seeing a Cybermare. However, they would always outrun them.

Eventually, they came to the train station. The Alicorn looked to the sides, checking for Cybermares. When she saw the cost was clear, she revealed a hole in the floor of the train station covered with a sort of manhole cover. She pulled the cover off and signaled for the other four to go down. They nodded and climbed down the stairs hidden underneath. The Alicorn went last, checked to see the cost was again and pulled the cover back.

The five were in a tunnel lit by torches. The tunnel was wide enough for the five of them to stand next to each other with enough space between them. While the tunnel was lit, the torches only lit so far, so it was hard to see very far.

The Alicorn came down from the stairs and said, “We should be safe now.” The Doctor could finally get a good look at the three mares he and Derpy had followed and recognized them. He looked at the Earth pony and Unicorn and realized that they were Lyra Heartstrings and Bonbon. He didn’t know them very well, but he did know that they lived in Ponyville and went to Cranky’s wedding. However, he still didn’t know who the Alicorn was.

“I believe now that we’re safe,” The Doctor started with a smile, “some introductions are in order. As I said before, my name is The Doctor.”

“My name is Lyra Heartstrings,” the Unicorn said.

“Bonbon,” the Earth Pony said giving the Doctor a suspicious look.

The Doctor’s theory was proven correct. These were the two the same he, somewhat, remembered (to an extent at least). Bonbon seemed a bit more irritable. Lyra seemed mostly the same though.

“And my name is Moon Dancer,” the Alicorn said. The Doctor heard that and tried to rack his brain to remember where he had heard that name before. He could tell he hadn’t met her before, but the name still did ring a bell. Maybe he had heard it from one of his friends? He didn’t know

While in his train of thought, he heard, “And I’m Derpy!” Derpy said, giving a salute.

“Well Doctor and Derpy,” Moon Dancer started, “follow us.” The three mares started walking down the tunnel.

“I suppose we should follow,” The Doctor said to Derpy.

“Oh, yeah,” Derpy replied.

The pair followed the three mares they met. They walked through the tunnel below the Ponyville, unsure where they were going but trusting they were being led somewhere that was safe.
