Two Years Old

"Diamond Tiawa, let's pway famiwy!" Two-year-old Apple Bloom said to her playmate. The foals were playing in Apple Bloom's room while Filthy Rich talked with Bright Mac and Pear Butter about their apple sales downstairs.

"Okay! You be the mommy and I be the daddy!" Diamond replied.

"But you'we a fiwwy," Apple Bloom looked at her confused.

"No, I'm a colt!" Diamond declared.

"Oh, ok!" Apple Bloom giggled and they pretended to be a married couple, raising one of Apple Bloom's foal dolls.

Three Years Old

"Diamond Tiara, it's time to get ready!" Spoiled Rich walked into Diamond's room with a small pink frilly dress draped on her back and let it slide off onto her foal's bed. Diamond Tiara looked at it with sadness filling up her chest.

"Why do I have to wear that, Mommy?"

"You know very well why you have to wear it! The local bakers Carrot Cake and Shiffon Swirl are getting married. Although they're... lower class, we still have to support the local business owners like ourselves. Now let's get you in this dress." Diamond Tiara sighed as her mom put the dress on her. When her mother was done, she grabbed a hair brush and began brushing Diamond's mane, painfully tugging at the knots. Finally, Spoiled put a big diamond tiara on her daughter's head.

"You look so beautiful, my little filly," Spoiled Rich said. Diamond looked at herself in the mirror and frowned. Looking at herself in all this filly clothes made her stomach hurt.

"I'm not a filly, mommy," Diamond said.

"What." Spoiled narrowed her eyes, "What did you just say to me?"

"I said I'm not a filly! I'm a colt," Diamond repeated. She felt a sudden hard blow to the head as her mother's hoof struck it. Her ears rang and her head throbbed.

"You are not a colt, Diamond Tiara. You are a filly. You will never speak like this ever again, you hear me? You cannot change the way you were meant to be born," her mother snapped. Diamond Tiara's ears went down and she nodded.

"Good. Now, let's get to the wedding, shall we?"

Six Years Old

Diamond Tiara was starting school for the first time. Her mother dressed her up with the tiara on her mane and her father walked her to school.

"Goodbye, my darling daughter! Have an amazing first day of school! I love you so much!" he gave her a hug and she returned it. Diamond cringed at the word "daughter" but still smiled. Every time she did anything remotely masculine, she would receive a whack on the head from her mother. She couldn't say anything to her father about it, or else her mom would do even worse. And she didn't know what her father would say about her feeling like a colt, either.

Diamond slowly walked inside and a magenta earth mare with green eyes, a fluffy pink mane, and a cutie mark of three smiling flowers turned towards her.

"Welcome! I'm your teacher, Mrs. Cheerilee. What's your name?" she greeted.

Diamond's ears went back in nervousness and she responded, "Um... I'm Diamond Tiara."

"Nice to meet you, Diamond Tiara! Take a seat!" she pointed towards the seats and they were filling up with foals her age. She noticed Apple Bloom, her old friend from the apple farm, and sat next to her.

"Hey, Diamond Tiara!" Apple Bloom waved when she sat down.

"Oh, hi, Apple Bloom," Diamond smiled. Then, a gray earth filly with blue glasses and a light gray mane sat next to her. Diamond Tiara recognized her as Silver Spoon, the daughter of her mother's rich friends. Diamond Tiara frequently went with her parents when they visited their friends, since most of them had foals Diamond's age. Silver Spoon and Apple Bloom were her closest friends, but she was hardly ever allowed to go to Sweet Apple Acres anymore. Her mother didn't want her associating with cowponies.

"Hi, Diamond Tiara!" Silver grinned.

"Hi Silver Spoon!!" Diamond responded. Soon, class started. Cheerilee introduced them to school and they just played fun games all day. When it was time for recess, the foals all poured outside.

Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon ran towards the playset and started playing "rich ponies", a game they'd made up by acting like adults. This was how adult ponies were supposed to act, of course, because that's how their parents were.

"Will you fetch me the maid, dear Silver Spoon? I'll pay you two extra bits!" Diamond said in a Canterlot accent.

"Oh yes, sure m'lady!" Silver responded. Diamond frowned.

"No, I'm not a mare this time! I'm a regal stallion!" Diamond said proudly. Her mother wasn't around to hear it, so now she could be a colt in the game.

"Oh okay! Sure, m'lord!" the two foals giggled and went down the slide. They went over to Apple Bloom who was talking to a white earth filly with a curly red mane and purple glasses.

"Servants! Give us some tea!" Silver Spoon said.

"What?" the filly asked.

"Oh, they're just playing 'rich ponies', Twist," Apple Bloom explained.

"Give us the tea, NOW!" Diamond yelled. The fillies cowered down and lowered their ears in fear.

"Yeah, give us the tea! We need it or else we'll DIE!" Silver Spoon shouted into their ears.

"Stop!" Twist cried.

"Only when you give us the tea!!! We need to have a tea party!" Diamond replied.

"I'm telling Mrs. Cheerilee!" Apple Bloom galloped away into the schoolhouse and Twist followed, leaving the two rich fillies to themselves.

Diamond rolled her eyes, "Well I guess we'll have to find somepony else to be our servant!"

"Wasn't that kinda mean?" Silver Spoon asked.

"No, mommy talks like that all the time! Besides, we need to show them how we're the upper class!" Diamond replied.

"I guess so..."

Ten Years Old

Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon were walking to the ice cream shop. It was summer in Equestria, and they were so hot it felt like they were going to melt if they couldn't cool down with a sweet cold treat. The best friends walked inside and the bell above the door jingled.

"Good afternoon, fillies! You came to the right place, this day is perfect for ice cream!" said Sherbert, the mare who owned the store. Diamond's stomach dropped at the word "filly", but she smiled anyway.

"Thank you! Can I have a banana split?" Silver Spoon asked.

"And I want a hot fudge sundae!" Diamond said. Sherbert smiled and made the desserts for them. When she was done, she brought them over to the counter and asked for 5 bits to pay.

"Shoot, I left my bits at home..." Silver turned to Diamond, "Did you bring any?" Diamond shook her head.

"Can we still have it?" Silver asked.

Sherbert shook her head sadly, "I'm afraid not. If ponies don't pay, I won't make any money!" The fillies sighed and turned away, but then Diamond remembered something. They were rich! They could do whatever they wanted!

"Give us the ice creams!" Diamond demanded.

"I'm sorry, Diamond Tiara, but I can't," Sherbert replied.

"Give us the ice cream. NOW! Or my parents Filthy and Spoiled Rich will be hearing about this! They'll get you fired and then you'll have no money!"

"My parents will hear about this, too! They'll make sure you can never open a restaurant again!" Silver Spoon added. Her parents owned "Spoon Inc.," the spoon manufacturer of Equestria, which also happened to be the only place selling spoons to restaurants—including this one. If Silver Spoon told her parents about this, they'd have to stop funding the ice cream shop and it would eventually close.

Sherbert widened her eyes and pushed the ice creams toward the two fillies. They eagerly grabbed them.

"And a spoon?" Silver added. Sherbert nodded quickly and handed them both spoons. The two fillies giggled and then a bright light shone on their flanks. They looked back and saw their cutie marks! Silver Spoon's was a silver spoon with a heart, and Diamond Tiara's was a tiara identical to the one she always wore.

"OH MY CELESTIA, WE GOT OUR CUTIE MARKS!!!" They shouted, jumping up and down with joy. They brought their ice creams outside and ate them in the heat, all while admiring their new cutie marks. Diamond was ecstatic that she finally got hers, but it also made her feel kinda gross. It was a tiara! Tiaras were for fillies! And Diamond was a colt! She frowned as she remembered her mother's words, "You are a filly. You can't change the way you were born." She wasn't sad for long, though, because she remembered her ice cream! The two besties ate ice cream and celebrated their cutie marks for the rest of that hot summer day.

Author's Note

The reason I'm writing his pronouns as she/her so far is because Diamond hasn't truly come out or accepted that he's trans yet. Later it'll change, though!
