Luna and the daydreaming

Equestria was ruled by four princesses at that time, four mighty alicorns with god-like powers.

Princess Celestia, also known as the sun goddess and ruler of the day. Her magic brought life into this world and she was known as the mightiest ponies of all.
Princess Mi Amore Cadenza, also known as the goddess of love. She was the niece of Princess Celestia and ruled with her husband over the crystal empire, her powers brought love into this world.
Princess Twilight Sparkle, also known as the Princess of Friendship, was the youngest of these four and the one with the greatest potential. She and her friends were well known throughout all of Equestria, she handled all kinds of problems and was trained so she could one day replace Princess Celestia and her sister.
And Princess Luna, also known as the goddess of the night and the moon, the master of dreams and also known under the name of Nightmare Moon, but that was long ago. Luna was the younger sister of Celestia, since she returned from her banishment she and her sister ruled together on the same throne. Celestia by day and Luna by night.

Luna had a very important task, one only she could handle so far, she was the protector of the realm of dreams, the only princess that was able to protect the ponies of Equestria during their sleep. The other princess knew that and respect her for what she had to do, but still, there was one problem. Luna worked at night, when any pony else was asleep, and sleep through the day, so her work was unknown to most ponies. Sometimes even the other alicorns forgot about her and her role as a ruler of Equestria.

But Luna was eager to prove herself one more time.

There was a lot going on in Equestria at that time, but there was one huge major problem for the alicorns to deal with. The birth rates were going down fast! The modern times have made ponies a bit lazy, they used birth protection alchemy, magic, and tools and somehow the number of male ponies, the stallions that carried that rich potent seed, was very low! Over the last generations, the numbers had changed so drastically, that there was only one stallion for ten mares! And that was before calculating the stallions that cant reproduce. In fact a lot of mares these days decided to find love in the arms of other mares. This was a good thing, love blooms everywhere, and the connection between mare and mare was as holy as any other connection, but no foal would bloom from that.

The rulers of Equestria had an emergency meeting because of that problem. Celestia, Cadance, and Twilight were sitting together in the big meeting room of the Canterlot Castle.

"I am making the most intense heat season ever been." Said Celestia and stomped with her hoof. Thanks to her magical powers she could influence how hard the heat stroke every mare every year. "I turn it up every day a bit more."

"I know, I know, we can feel it, dear Aunty!" Said Princess Cadance. She used her magic to summon a big fan to get some cold air in her face, even as a goddess she was not immune to the effect of the heat season. "And I have to beg you to stop it! I feel like I have a freaking oven in my womb and it won't help us. The ponies are using magic and alchemy against the effect of the heat and when they have sex, they just use protection. You can't handle this problem like 1.000 years ago."

"Then we will make these protection spells and tools illegal." Said Celestia next, using her royal voice so the others understand how serious she was.

"This is a joke, right?" Asked Twilight, the purple alicorn had a drink with ice cubs inside, she knew cooling from the inside only worse the effect of heat, but it taste so good! "We can't force them to have unprotected sex, these times are long ago, the ponies are free to have sex how they want. What next? Make gay marriage illegal again? No!! We have come a long way and that's good!"

Every pony in the room knew that Twilight was right.

"Okay, then you!" Said Celestia and pointed at Cadence, the pink alicorn gasped in surprise, what did she wrong this time? "You are the princess of Love! Use your magic! Use this strange crystal heart! Use your husband and if you have to use your daughter! Every little bit of your magic is needed!!"

"Wow, Aunty, calm down, please." Said Cadence, she was not the young foal anymore, who was so impressed by her aunt that she just did everything for her. "My Magic works fine, in fact, it works better than ever before. The power of love is blooming and so does the love in the heart of the ponies. But there is a big difference between love and making a foal. Me and Shiny have one foal of love, but we do not feel ready for a second, yet. Back in the day ponies mated and got foals because they had to, because foals were the best way to secure your future, but times have changed. We live in a modern world, the state we created gives safety to everyone, ponies making foals out of love, not out of fear anymore... and that's good Aunty!"

Celestia sighed and sat back on her throne, she sighed. Her kingdom would be in big trouble if the birth rates keep going down like that. But it seemed like no one had an idea how to solve that problem.

That's when the doors opened and Princess Luna entered.

"Dearest sister, why did no pony get me for this emergency meeting?" She asked right ahead.

Luna looked as tired and sleepless as always around that time, and not even her big "I love Dreams" mug full of coffee could change that.

"Luna, my dearest." Celestia smiled as she saw her sister. How could she be mad at all the mares that love other mares when her own heart belonged to another mare too? Her own sister was the pony she loved most. "We just know how hard your work is and wanted you to get your sleep. Without you, no pony can protect the dream world." She left her place to walk over to her sister.

Luna put her mug aside and leaned to her big sister, they hugged each other, feeling the other's warm body gave both a good feeling. Luna closed her eyes for a second and inhaled her sister's scent. It made her shudder. This year's heat was so strong and the heat scent of her sister was intense. She loved her sister, as a sister, as a ruler, and as a lover. They kissed each other, just a small one, they knew that long and intense kissing made the others feel uncomfortable.

Luna walked over to her place after that, she already knew what this meeting was about. She knew the numbers and she already knew her sister's idea of how to deal with the problem.

"I think there is nothing we can do." Said Twilight "I am sure nature will find a way to deal with this problem, until then we have to get through it somehow. I am already working on the numbers, pushing some bits to help the old ponies, leading scientists to find a way to help the economy to get along with fewer work ponies, and so on... we might have to take a step back, but I am sure we will get through it. We will turn the economic growth by 90%, and we have to relent on our allies and make new debts for the generations to come... but they will come. "

"No one wants that," said Cadance "but Twilight is right."

"Wait a minute!" Luna spoke now "I have found a long-forgotten spell in the books of our father, I am not quite sure how it works, but it could help. I would like to try it in a small area first to see how well it works. It will stimulate some ponies to follow that nature call of mating. The plus side is, I can cast it while I sleep, on the other side, I don't know exactly how it works."

The other Princess exchanged looks while Luna was giving around copies of the spell, it was written in a very old language with unknown signs, even Twilight, the princess of all nerds, had problems reading it.

"I only get half of this." She said "But I think it could work. I vote for yes."

"Yes." Said Cadance.

"Yes." Said Celestia.

"And where to start?" Asked Twilight now "We could look around and gather voluntary test subjects, so we have an experimental group in around 6 months."

"That's a lot of time." Said Celestia.

"Also I am not sure if it works if ponies know what happens," added Luna.

"I say Ponyville." Said Cadence "It's a small place, it is within reach of our council and inherited all kinds of ponies so we can see the effect it has on them, it's already the perfect experimental group."

"I vote yes." Said Luna.

"Yes." Said Celestia.

"No!" Said Twilight with a gasp "This is my hometown! We already had to deal with chaos, pure destruction, and time-triggering magic, that means these ponies had enough!"

"That means these ponies are already used to strange magic and are perfect for the test." Said Celestia "My Faithfull student, please believe in my sister and please believe in your friends, no harm will happen to you beloved Ponyville, you have my royal promise."

Twilight sighed, she knew how serious the situation was. She don't like it, but she knew it was the best chance they had.

"I vote with yes." She said.
