Prologue: Discord

A quiet night. A magical castle city. A small statue garden. This is where we begin. This is where we take our first steps into...the Discord Zone.

In the city of Canterlot, five minutes before midnight, Luna's moon shines down with all its radiance upon a nondescript statue garden. Flitting over statues representing strength, friendship, and honor, the light finally comes to rest upon a particularly interesting statue.

The statue of Discord.

We now venture inside this statue. Inside the stone monster that once terrorized the world. What will we find? What will we see? What will *he do?*

You're about to find out.

"Oh, bother! Those infuriating ponies just HAD to pick the most magical stone they could find, couldn't they?"

Pacing back and forth in a round white room with a round white chair was a draconequus. This was not just any draconequus, however. This was Discord.

"How clever of them. They only got me because I had let my guard down! Pah!" Discord scoffed. He rested his lion-paw hand against the wall of his prison. There was a sharp zap, and he quickly removed his hand from the wall.

"However...it would seem that my efforts to escape are futile. Perhaps..." The draconequus grimaced. There was no hiding the truth.

Those ponies had really trapped him this time. He'd tried teleporting out multiple times, only to be zapped by magic. He'd tried creating a cotton-candy cloud, which had flickered feebly into life, then disappeared. He'd even resorted to physical force against his prison, always resulting in failure. There was one thing, however, that he hadn't tried yet...

"Hey! How about a little dimension-hopping? That should do the trick!" exclaimed Discord. "How in Equestria did I not think of that before?" Elated by this sudden realization, Discord hopped around the room humming a little song. With each hop, he produced a different noise. Honk--squeak--ding--meow--ribbit! This went on for a few minutes until, coming to a sudden stop, he realized something else.

"It can't be that easy," mused the spirit of chaos. "There's got to be a catch. Something that those ponies devised to stop me from escaping. There must be something standing in my way!"

Discord thought for a while, then, after coming up with nothing, shrugged. "Oh well. I suppose I'll just find out later. In the meantime..."

Gathering his strength for a dimension-hop, Discord stood in the center of the room. A light, cotton-candy scented wind began to form after a few seconds. As the power increased, the wind picked up, along with the sound of an air horn. Discord squeezed his eyes closed and thought.

What fun I could've had, in that perfect chaos! Why, I did them a favor by getting rid of the Elements. All that magic was so depressing! Eugh! It could have gone perfectly well, too, if it wasn't for that accursed Celestia! Oh, I just know it was her. It couldn't have been anypony else!

Discord's expression became pained as the wind around him began to falter, the magic of the white prison supressing the buildup of chaos.

Oh, she'll be the first to get it. Oh, yes. That'll be the first thing. Send that Celestia away, then deal with those accursed Elements! What a joke! They've got nothing on me! NOTHING! I'm the spirit of Chaos, for Pete's sake! Chaos can't be restrained without Harmony being destroyed! Fortunately, Celestia didn't know that when those ponies were colorless, I was at my weakest. But I'll be stronger this time! THIS...WILL WORK!!

Suddenly, as if strengthened by his livid thoughts (which it was), the wind around the draconequus reached 100 miles per hour in a split second, putting great strain on the magical prison. A short-lived tussle ensued between chaos and harmony before the energy buildup exploded outward, shattering the white walls around him and creating a portal in time and space. Needless to say, there was an extremely loud noise.

BLAM!

Everything hummed and sparked as the extremely startled moon shone upon a swirling black vortex where the statue of Discord used to be. A shadowy, mismatched figure stepped into the vortex, which closed with a *pop!* behind him. Everything was quiet. The whole thing had taken only five minutes. It was now midnight.
