The Story

Besides the few clouds roaming across the sky, it was a clear and warm night in the exquisite capital of Equestria. The moon was full as it’s light shine down upon Canterlot’s many tall elegant buildings, including the tallest one being Celestia and Luna’s castle that stood proudly on the edge of it’s mountain. At a closer look from above, the city was echoing with the hustling and bustling of ponies quickly trotting left and right. It had been a long day of work and play for many of them and most were heading straight home for dinner and rest.

However there was one mare that was already in her flannel covered bed. Her dark, black mane flowed over her light black smooth face as she lightly snored. Octavia rolled softly to the left side of her bed, unconsciously making herself comfortable and unwittingly had moved so close to the edge of the bed she was in danger of falling. She had a black silk and pink laced blindfold covering her eyes, providing the complete darkness she needed to have peace and well deserved sleep. Instinctively she began to roll back to the middle of bed before...

“Drop The Bass!”

A loud shout from Vinyl’s room with the blasting sound of her, in some pony’s opinion, obnoxious music. Octavia yelped in surprise as her legs flailed in the air before dropping like a sack of potatoes onto the floor. The cellist let out a deep sigh in annoyance, removing the blanket covering her face though the blindfold only half covering her eyes now as she stared up at the ceiling.

She soon flipped backwards from the ground before quickly standing up on her hooves. “I swear to Celestia… I’m going to kill that mare.” The bass from Vinyl’s music was causing the many items and pictures to bounce cartoonishly around her room. As Octavia trotted to her door her mind was in a whirlwind of anger and confusion about her roommate's “random” sudden burst of cacophony. “There are many spells that she knows that can prevent sound reaching anypony but herself… or headphones?!” She rolled her eyes and removed her blindfold as she realized exactly what this was about.

Octavia reached the DJ’s door that was covered in many excessive posters and signs informing anypony that read them that her room may contain nuclear material or she was a fan of many other musical artists. The gray mare banged on the door aggressively. “Vinyl!” she cried.

There was a sudden crash from the other side as the music stopped. “Octun-ya?!” Vinyl replied in equal volume as Octavia. Then there was a sound of a glass breaking and squeak of a rubber toy from Vinyl making her way to the door. “Im-uh comin.”

Vinyl finally swung the door open as she stared at her room mate with a half cocked smile. It was then Octavia’s theory was in fact proven. This was not done by any sort of scientific method or any obscure process to realize this discovery, but by simple detective work. However for the sake of pointing out the obvious we are going to list them:

  1. The mare’s mane was even more insane than usual with the whole thing pointing due east.
  2. Hanging on her horn was a pair of strange panties that were simply black with an image of Vinyl’s cutie mark. “Why does she even have those?” Octavia thought, pretending not to look embarrassed by them, her face turning red.
  3. Vinyl had half an eyelid open with her face flushed pink.
  4. Finally the DJ had a strong filling smell of apples and alcohol wafting from her as she spoke.

“Ooooo, well if it isn't clean, pristine, and fine as wine herself… Octopussy,” the mare snorted before a bottle of Applejack Daniels floated over to her and she chugged it for a second and wiped off any residue liquor off her chin.

Octavia, ignoring the second time the mare insulted her name, took a deep breath as she knew this was going to be a difficult conversation. “Vinyl, what in seven circles of Tartarus is going on? It’s two in the morning!”

“Wh-wut you mean?”

“Your music Vinyl! Ponies, such as myself, are sleeping!”

The DJ finally looked at the clock on the mantle. “Pffft, oh shit!”

The cellist shook her head in frustration as this seemed to be going nowhere. “What is wrong Vinyl? This is the third time this week you’ve come home drunk!”

Vinyl scoffed as she waved her hoof dismissively. “Nothing is wrong… “ She turned away from Octavia. “A mare, such as myself, isn’t allowed to have a *hic* drink from time to time?” she asked, placing her hoof on her chest and standing regally as she could without falling over.

Octavia’s face turned red and ears flicked in annoyance as she heard the mocking tone piercing her ear drums. “That is not what I am relaying to you,” she retorted in the calmest tone she could muster. “You are my friend Vinyl and... I care for you.”

There was a cold silence between the mares. “My only friend… “ Vinyl thought as she bowed her head. “Yeah… Well... It’s not your problem.” She looked out the window and with an expressionless stare, admiring the full moon and the crystal clear sky. “I guess there are some mares who have all the talent.”

Octavia stood in silence as she watched her friend stare sadly out the window with concerned eyes. “Vinyl I-

*Knock, knock, knock!*

“Octavia! Vinyl! What's going on in there!?”

Octavia’s heart sank into her stomach. “Oh dear, that’s the landlord!” She cried internally as she trotted as fast as she could to the door as sweat dripped down her brow. As she opened it, an old grey haired and light blue maned unicorn was staring angrily back at her. “Mr. Stickler I sincerely apologies but-”

She was quickly silenced as he pushed his forehead into hers with his expression holding like a horrifying statue. His eyes stared deep into hers, making the mare eyes shift left and right awkwardly before he finally spoke, “I have been receiving many calls from different tenants stating that loud racket coming from this room.”

The cellist's face scrunched as she finally took a step back from him, smelling the potent tobacco on his breath. He stepped a bit closer, but just enough to not overstep his bounds to the apartment. “Once more sir, I sincerely apologize for that, but as you can hear, I have it handled.”

“What does that *hic* old fart want!?”

Octavia’s right eye twitched as she gave the landlord a crooked smile. “Please ignore her, she is drunk and not in her right mind.” Octavia gulped, seeing that the landlord continued to remain stone faced.

“This is a direct violation of your rental agreement. If this continues to happen, you and that… ” He peeked his head towards Vinyl and huffed aggressively. “other one will have to be removed,” He stated flatly before his magic took the door and slammed it in her face. A picture fell from the wall, breaking the glass that now spread out all over the floor.

The mare dropped her head and let out a deep sigh before she finally saw the picture that fell. She picked it up and looked sadly at it. It was of her and Vinyl both drinking and smiling at their favorite bar.“This was the night Vinyl and I first met.”

“Octavia… Everything all right?” Vinyl asked, looking over at Octavia curiously. By the tone in her voice, Octavia could tell that she wanted to reconcile for the whole night. However, the cellist was not ready to forgive her.

“Yeah everything is… fine,” She retorted with a huff before she threw the picture to the side. “I’m going to bed.”

She trotted across the living room without looking at the DJ.

“Octy I…”

“Forget it Vinyl… just keep it down,” She said under her breath, refusing to look at the unicorn as she shut the door behind her.

Vinyl rubbed the back of her head sadly, staring at her friend’s door. “Way to go Vinyl. You’ve screwed it up again.” The unicorn flopped herself onto her bed and pressed her face against her pillow to hide. Her pillow became slightly wet as small tears soaked into the cushion, crying herself to sleep.

* * *

Octavia sat on a red chair with her head leaning against her hoof. She stared deeply into her wheat pancakes while she picked at them with a fork. It had been two nights since the incident with her DJ friend, and everything resumed as usual around the apartment… partially. The cellist was rather happy with that, but there was clearly something wrong with Vinyl.

Since the night she yelled at the unicorn, Octavia would wake to find her friend in a very, for the lack of a better word, disgruntled state.

Vinyl's mane was in shambles, and it always looked unkempt. On both mornings however, it was as if a family of squirrels had nested there overnight, while her fur suggested that a dog had licked it in all different directions, so instead of a nice straight-groomed coat, it stuck up in the air, completely disheveled. The second morning, Octavia came into the kitchen and caught a quick glimpse of the DJ's eyes before she covered them with her sunglasses. They were entirely bloodshot all around the retinas. It was quite unsettling.

When Vinyl came out of the shower, you would have never thought she would ever be in that state, but the cellist saw what came before that. It was all Octavia could think about.

“Hey, you alright?”

The earth pony was brought out of her thoughts. The noise of chatter and cooking of the restaurant returned to her as he raised her head to see the concerned look on Lyra’s face, who sat across from her. Octavia was completely lost in thought that she had forgotten that she was with her other musician friend.

“Oh, yeah I'm fine...” the cellist's voice trailed off at the end as she went back to staring at the pancakes.

The green mint unicorn just shook her in disbelief. “No you're not, but that's cool. You don't have to talk to me about it. I'll just... ” She paused for a moment, looking around the table for something, and then quickly spotted the syrup pourer. Lyra's horn hummed as her magic lifted the container into the air, and pointed at with her hoof, “have a conversationwith this syrup. It seems to have more to say than you do.” She said sarcastically with a sly smile.

Octavia gave the lyre player an un-amused look.

Lyra grinned slightly by this, and began her little show. “So, Mr. Syrup, you know how long I've known Octavia?”

The unicorn clears her throat, doing her best impression of an old male stallion, but instead it sounded like her typical mare voice with a sore throat. The newly animated object turned and looked at Octavia before doing a motion as if shrugging. “I don't know, how long?” The syrup bottle’s cap opened like it was her puppet.

“Five years.”

She made the syrup shake abruptly in the air. “Whoa! That’s a long time.”

Lyra nodded. “Agreed. But did you hear her just lie to me?”

“What?! Why would she lie to you?”

The unicorn rolled her eyes. “Well duh! She’s hiding something from me.”

“I’m not hiding any-”

Lyra raised her hoof to silence Octavia. “Shhh…“ She smiled oddly. “Don’t you see, I'm talking to my new friend; Mr. Syrup.” Lyra points at the bottle that is slowly leaking it’s sweet, brown liquid from its cap.

The cellist stared at the syrup then to Lyra, who had a silly grin across her face. The unicorn's grin was contagious, and her terrible ventriloquist act was making it hard for Octavia to keep her from frowning.

She removed Lyra's hoof, and shook her head with a giggle. “You just can't let these things go, can you?” Octavia asked.

“Psh, you ask that like it's something new,” the unicorn said. “Besides, I can't stand to see my friend looking all down for no reason. What kind of friend would I be, huh?”

Octavia smiled appreciatively. “Thanks, Lyra. In your own ridiculous way, I feel a little better.”

The lyre player waved a hoof dismissively. “Eh... don't worry about it, it's what I do. Now...” Lyra edges herself closely to Octavia with a more serious tone in her voice. “What troubles a great cellist like yourself?”

The amused pony looked up quickly with a smirk. “Alright, well... “

Octavia told Lyra the whole story about Vinyl, and the unicorn listened intently to it. She remained motionless with her hooves crossed and chin on top of them waiting for the earth pony to finish. Once she did, Lyra was quiet for a moment letting the story roll through her head. Octavia honestly felt like Lyra was going to say some useful, until...

“So...she needs to get laid.”

Octavia smacked her own face with a hoof. “Lyra! This is serious!”

The unicorn shrugged. “I am being serious. I'll tell ya a few years ago, I had a hard time sleeping for a month. I decided to go out to a club, met this handsome red stallion from Ponyville, and he pounded me so hard I couldn't walk straight for days,” Lyra hummed deeply as she closed her eyes as almost reliving the experience. “I slept like a filly after breastfeeding.” Lyra grins deviantly with a sparkle in her eyes as she reopened them.

The cellist cringed at the image, and waved her hooves at Lyra. “Please, spare me these stories, and keep your voice down. We're in public.” Octavia saw in the corner of her eye a family of three sitting a few tables down from them. The mother gave them a disgusted look as the father mimicked her, covering their young colt's ears.

Lyra laughed, after seeing them as well. “Whatever, that squirt will have to learn someday. The sooner the better.”

Octavia lets out an exasperated sigh.“That’s all a matter of opinion” “Fine, but I don't think the lack of coitusis her problem. She talks about all the stallions she meets at her regular gigs.”

Lyra huffed at this response. “She probably hasn’t met the right stallion. I’m telling you Octavia this stallion's di-”

“Lalalala, I’m not hearing this.” Octavia said quickly, covering her ears.

Lyra snickers. “Fine, I’ll drop it.”

They sat there for a moment in silence. The waiter came by to refill the mare’s coffee, and was quick to leave them in their awkward sanctuary. Lyra stared off into the distance behind Octavia who was rubbing her chin while aimlessly looking up at the ceiling.

Soon enough, however, a wide grin spread across Lyra’s face, hitting the table with her hoof and shouts, “I’ve got it!”

The whole restaurant went dead silent and still as they stared at the disruptive mare, and Octavia tried to hide her head in embarrassment. Why can’t I have any normal friends?” She thought rhetorically. Octavia turned around with a forced smile and shrugged shamefully to the other ponies. They all saw her and gave her a disapproving stare before, returning to their business.

Lyra was grinning like a madmare, showing enough teeth to make a shark jealous, as Octavia turned back around. The cellist rolled her eyes by the thought and then raised an eyebrow at Lyra. “Oh, do you?” she asked in a heavy sarcastic tone.

Lyra, either not caring or not hearing the sarcasm, responds happily, “I do and it’s really simple.”

Octavia’s eyes widened with interest and leaned in some. The unicorn remained silent for a minute. Soon the earth pony’s eyebrows furrowed. “Are you going to tell me?”

“You didn’t ask what it was.”

“Well I thought you were going to continue.”

“I don’t answer unasked questions, Octavia,” Lyra said as if Octavia's assumption was dumb.

“You- wha- Ugh!” The cellist facehoofed again and let it slowly slide down against her face. “Why me?”

Lyra kept grinning as she watched her friend try to contain herself.

With a calming sigh, Octavia crossed her hooves pleasantly as possible on the table while she strained a smile. “Alright, Lyra, what is your idea?”

The unicorn tilted her head to the side with a confused look. “What idea?”

Suddenly, a thud of Octavia's head hitting the table quickly followed. There is going to be a big red mark on my face by the time this breakfast is over.”

The cellist raised her head before she said nicely as she couldthrough her teeth, “What is your idea on helping me with Vinyl Scratch?”

Lyra perked up, and said. “Oh that! I was going to suggest we use some kind of drug. We just put it in her drink, and while she's passed out, we'll draw a big colt di-”

“What?! No! we aren't drawing anything on her face, and drugging her is completely out of the question!” The earth pony stated with obvious frustration in her voice.

Lyra leaned back in her chair and stuck her nose up towards the ceiling like she was insulted. “Hmph, I don't see you coming up with any ideas.”

“Who can think clearly when they’re surrounded by idiots?” Octavia mumbled.

“What did you say?”

The cellist shook her head. “Nothing. Could we just come up with a solution that won't involve lawyers?”

Lyra gave her an unsure look, but shrugged it off. “Whatever. I don't know how you could help Vinyl without drugs or magic. Unless you knock her out cold by hitting her on the head or something.”

Octavia's eyes widened as she clapped her hooves together. “That's it!”

“What's it?” Lyra asked with a questioning look. “You going to bang her on the head?”

Octavia gave Lyra a blank stare. “Honestly, some of the things you say makes me think you need your head examined.”

“What did I say? It’s not my fault you’re not clear.”

Octavia sighed. “You just... Nothing, nothing. To be clear,” She said slowly so that Lyra would understand. “What I meant was that part about magic. There has to be a spell to cure insomnia. I know of one that will make you sleep for a whole day, but we don’t need her doing that, because she has to work during the day.”

“Wait... How do you know anything about magic?”

“Vinyl has a lot of old spell books around the apartment from her days in school. She never reads them, but I pick them up every once in a while.” Octavia smiled proudly.

Lyra looked at her strangely. “Why would you read about magic when you’re not even a unicorn?”

“It is always good to be informed in any subject, even though you may never use it, so when a situation like this comes up, you’ll be glad that you did,” Octavia says philosophically.

“I think you were just bored.”

The cellist frowned as her shoulders slouched. “Anyway, I think there was another spell that I read that can help us, but...” Octavia scrunched her face up.

“Buuuuut...what?!” she asked anxiously.

“Lyra?” Octavia said nicely, in a questioning manner.

“Yeesssss?” Lyra bats her eyes.

Next time you feel the urge to needlessly shout…don’t.”

Lyra pouted and stayed silent as Octavia continued, “Now, what I was trying to say is that I can't seem to remember the spell, so this afternoon, before Vinyl comes home. We need to go into Vinyl's room…” Octavia cringed at the thought of going back in there. She may have not paid too much attention to it, when she broke in the other night, but it sure wasn’t pleasant in smell or cleanliness… “Pleasant is putting it nicely.” Octavia thought. That room is a pigsty.”

You know, I agree with you, but I wasn't going to be rude about it.

Rude? If I was you, I'd use every disgusting term to describe that so called room of hers”

Octavia, that's a little harsh? Give her a break.

The grey mare jumps up in her seat. “Give her a break?! You don't have to live with her, I do. I am well within my rights to complain about it.”

Lyra looks around the restaurant with a confused look on her face. “Uh, Octy, who are you talking to?”

Octavia blushed and rubbed the back of her head. “I apologize for that. I was arguing with myself.”

“Oh right, right, I understand” Lyra nodded pleasantly, but turned her head, and swirled a hoof by the side of her head in a “she nuts” fashion.

Ignoring this, Octavia wiped off her shoulders, flattened her mane, and calmly spoke, “As I was saying, we need to go into Vinyl's room, get that book, and find the spell we need to use before Vinyl arrives home.”

“Ooooh, this sounds like a black ops mission in one of those video games, “Lyra said all giddily while she clapped her hooves together.

Octavia rolled her eyes. “It's nothing like that.”

Lyra frowned. “What? Of course it is.” The unicorn goes misty eyed as if she was no longer in reality. “We have to sneak into the dense jungle of Vinyl's room to find her weakness and exploit it, so we can bring down her reign of tyranny for good.”

“I just... “ Octavia threw her hooves in the air as if saying, 'I give up.' “Fine! It's a black ops mission.”

Lyra clapped her hooves together excitedly. “Yes! We'll call it Operation: Sleeping Mare.”

“Whatever! Just be at my apartment in an hour,” Octavia said demandingly.

Lyra saluted her. “Mam, yes, mam!”

Octavia rolled her eyes with a smile as she paid for their meal. “All right, you goof. I’ll see you in an hour.”

* * *

As Lyra hummed a happy tune, she knocked on Octavia’s apartment door. She only stood there for a moment before Octavia opened the door.

“Lyra! Where have you--”

The unicorn quickly trotted inside, pushing the door aside into Octavia's muzzle.

“Oh, what nice place you have here Octy!” Lyra complimented cheerfully as she looked around the crumby, two-bedroom apartment.

Octavia shut the door aggressively. Her face is slightly mushed as she grinds her teeth, “I'm so happy that you like it! Now where have you been?”

“I was pleasuring myself,” she said in a matter-of-fact tone.

“Dah! I could have lived without knowing that, Lyra,” Octavia says in a disgusted tone. “How long does that take? She's two hours late!”

“Well... you asked. Did you want me to lie to you?”

“Yes, that kind of information you keep to yourself. It's private”

Lyra shrugged as she turned to face Octavia with an eyebrow raised curiously. “Why? I bet you do it all the time,” The unicorn said accusingly. “Which makes me think... When was the last time you've done it? Or you know what? When was the last time you got any at all?”

Octavia's jaw dropped with a blush growing around her cheeks. “I-I... You... That's none of your business.”

Lyra shook her head. “Alright, whateves. I'm just telling you that it doesn’t hurt to do it every once in a while. It does wonders for anypony.”

“NO, no, please! Can we just focus on Vinyl here, and stay out of my personal life?” Octavia asked, begging for this conversation to end.

“Alright, sheesh, no need to get all riled up, Octavia.”

Octavia closed her eyes until the red she saw went away. She soon opened them, and headed towards the kitchen. “I already have the book here on the kitchen table. I've been looking for any spell involving sleep, but all that comes up is the one we talked about earlier.”

Lyra followed her. “Well that won't work, now will it?”

The cellist sat in one of her old, wood rotted chairs that creaked under her, and nodded in agreement “No, no it will not, because it actually lasts longer than I previously thought.”

Lyra raised an eyebrow. “For how long?”

Octavia flipped the pages to the right section, dragged her hoof across the page, until she found it and lifted it to show Lyra. The unicorn began to read.

“This spell is highly potent on any intended recipient, but the size of the organism will affect how potent the spell will be. See Chart 1 on different levels of potency.”

Lyra's eyes roamed the page until she spotted the chart with different animals going from largest to smallest, and beside them are the number of days the organism would be asleep.

Ursa Major= Effects negated
Ursa Minor= 1 hour maximum
Cerberus=5 hours minimum
Manticore= 6-8 hours
Timberwolves= 10 hours maximum

The list went on. Once she reached the ponies, her jaw dropped. “Three days!?” Lyra shouted.

Octavia nodded as she turned the book around to face her. “Yeah, it's ridiculous I know. I would never cast this on- Hey!”

Lyra snatched the book out of Octavia's with a hum of her magic, and brought it in front of her. “Can you imagine going three days without masturbating?! My nethers cringe in fear just thinking about it.”

Octavia's throat was going to go dry from the amount of sighing she was doing today. “Is that all you think about Lyra?”

Lyra dragged the book down to reveal her face to Octavia, her eyebrows angled towards her nose. It made the cellist sweat slightly. Never has she seen her friend this serious about anything before today.

“Sex is an essential part of our daily life, Octavia. Every creature is born with genitals of some kind, and without necessary release every once in a while. All those built up hormones will drive any creature into frivolous rage. It'll be mass chaos in the streets. Ponies throwing chairs into windows, tables being flipped... Dogs and cats living together... Mass hysteria!”

Octavia snickered at this. “Well I have to hand it to her. She’s at least passionate.”

“I mean you remember the day Discord took over… I couldn’t get a moment of peace!”

* * *

“HELP ME!!” Octavia galloped as fast as she could down the Canterlot street. She is quickly followed by a floating cello chomping it's wooden teeth while chasing after the frightened earth pony.

“I’M RIGHT BEHIND YOU OCTAVIA!” Lyra’s horn glowed as she was attempting to stop the ravenous cello.

“YIPE!” Octavia cried as Lyra’s spell only caused the cello to grow in size.

“Well… That wasn’t supposed to happen.” Lyra groaned as they continued to run through the chaotic streets of Canterlot.

* * *

Octavia cringed at the thought. “Regretfully, I do.”

“Equestria would be worse off without it.”

Octavia squinted her eyes. “Alright, already... I see your point.”

“Good!” Lyra said flatly as she returned to the book. “Now did you look in the index?”

“I-index?” Octavia slightly taken back by Lyra’s use of the word.

Lyra nods intently. “Yes, the index. Where you can reference any information that’s in the book from the back of it.”

“She does not joke around when it comes to depriving another pony of self-pleasure,” Octavia thinks as she rolls her eyes humorously.

“I did indeed check it, but all that comes up is that same spell we talked about earlier.”

Lyra scoffed, “Seriously? Well... then we’ll just have to find another one that can induce sleep indirectly.” The unicorn flipped to the back of the book, and begins to scan the pages with a hoof.

Octavia watched her with interest. It’s not very often does she see Lyra be this intent. Despite the constant nonsense, she did love Lyra dearly as a friend, but there are some days, she’d like to take a rolling pin and beat some sense into her. The one thing that made her friendship with Vinyl and Lyra work so well is their common love for music. It was something she knew would keep them talking for days. It is their passion, their joy, their life... She wouldn’t know what to do without it, and it could possibly be the ultimate solution for their problem.

“Perfect!” Octavia exclaimed with a pound of her hoof on the table that almost made Lyra drop the book.

“What’s perfect?”

“I can’t believe I couldn’t remember this during our lunch. I’m almost as dumb as my friends sometimes,” Octavia mumbled to herself.

“Who’s dumb? What did you not think of earlier?” Lyra said, completely confused.

Octavia sat up and grabbed the unicorn and frantically shook her. “Music, Lyra!”

The unicorn’s eyes widen. “Music is dumb? How could you say that?”

Octavia gave her a blank stare, and spinned her head. “No, no, no, I mean, music is the answer to Vinyl’s problem.”

“Oh... “ Lyra turned her head to look at that floor with an unsure look. “But how?”

“Think about it. What is the old saying about music?’ Octavia tapped her chin with one hoof. “Music soothes the savage beast?”

Lyra giggled at that. “Vinyl isn’t a beast, Octavia, but when she is at an all you can eat buffet, you’d think she turned into one.”

* * *

On the far side of a Golden Stable restaurant, sounds of slurping, munching, burping, and other undesirable noises can be heard throughout the building.

Vinyl just came back from her third trip to the buffet, and crumbs and grease covered the unicorn’s face. Her two friends stared at her disbelief, upon seeing them Vinyl stopped in mid bite of her fourth cupcake.

She smiled sheepishly at Octavia and Lyra. “Oh, where are my manners.” She levitated the cupcake to them. “You guys want one?” she said with a mushed food covered grin.

Octavia left immediately towards the little mares room, looking sick, and Lyra shook her hoof with an embarrassed smile. “No, I’m good.”

Vinyl shrugged. “Suit yourself,” she said, popping the cupcake into her mouth.

* * *

“Yeah a real beast. But that’s not the point.“ She removed her hoof. “Music is Vinyl’s life, so then it won’t be as effective, but if we somehow cast a spell on her turntables to make the music hypnotic. Then it may work.” The cellist leaned back into her seat, and took Vinyl’s old spell book back from Lyra. She flipped to the page she needed, and read through it.

Lyra removes herself from her seat and trotted to place her head on Octavia's shoulder curiously. “What are you looking for?”

“Hypnosis... “Octavia lightly pushed Lyra’s head off her. “And would you mind not being so close in my personal space?”

“Oh, yeah, sure, no problem.” Lyra backs away some with a sheepish smile.

Octavia smiled politely and slid her hoof down the “H” section until she found the word hypnosis. “Ah, here we are, Page 236.” she flipped to the page and read, “Hypnosis is an artificially induced altered state of consciousness, characterized by heightened suggestibility and receptivity to direction. Therapists cast this spell on many objects their patients are comfortable with being around to help the patient modify or eliminate undesirable behavior, and treating certain chronic disorders, such as anxiety.”

When Octavia finished, she turned to see a blank look on Lyra’s face. “What?”

Octavia scoffed, “It’s basically saying that, if we perform this spell on her turntables, we can possibly help Vinyl sleep.”

“Oh... right! I knew that.”

Octavia waved a hoof in the air. “Uh huh, I’m sure you did. Now... ” the cellist curtly says as she shoved the book into Lyra hooves. “You should read over this spell, and learn anything you can from it. While I go in the back, and see if I can clear any space so you can perform it.”

Lyra grinned, loving the idea. “Sounds great to me.”

The cellist heavily rolled her eyes. “Of course, you do. You don’t have to go back there.”

Lyra laughed as Octavia scrunched up her face in disgust and headed to the back of the apartment to Vinyl’s room.

* * *

Vinyl swayed back and forth as she trotted down the hallway to her apartment. Her eyes red from irritation, and her eyelids practically struggling to stay open. “Why does my body tease me like this? I'm so tired, but I know as soon as I lay down, I'll be wide awake... fuck my life!” She thinks with frustration as she reaches her door. It soon opens when her horn hums and glows a light blue encasing the knob.

Once inside and the door closing behind her, Vinyl hung a small backpack she was carrying on a rack hanging on the wall. “Hopefully, I'll be able to get some sleep tonight, because I feel like I'm going to colla--.”

Her thoughts are interrupted by Octavia's voice.“Oh! Vinyl you're home. Come to the kitchen. I have good news for you.”

Vinyl raised an eyebrow into a curious expression. “Uh, alright, be right there.”

She walked a short distance to the kitchen to be suddenly taken back by the sight of Lyra sitting across Octavia at the small kitchen table that is pushed up against the wall; both mares showing proud toothy grins.

“Um, hey there Lyra. Wha-” Vinyl paused to release a long, exasperated yawn, and then continues with half-lidded eyes. “What's going on?”

“My dear, Vinyl. You look dreadful. Sit down and we'll explain,” Octavia said in a caring tone.

Vinyl didn't need to be told twice. She walked into the kitchen, and sat in the last wooden chair between her two friends.

“So what's up?”

“Well, Vinyl, for the last couple of days, I've been worried about you,” Octavia began.

“Oh... have you now?”

Octavia nodded. “So today, with the help of Lyra, we have discovered something that will help you with your insomnia.”

Vinyl's eyes widened in surprise, and turned her head in silence to Lyra for confirmation. Her friend nodded still smiling that made the DJ jump up and grab her friend's into a bone crushing hug. “You have no idea how great that is to hear! You guys are the best”

Lyra fully accepts the hug by squeezing back with one hoof around Vinyl's shoulder. “Awwww, don't mention it, Vinyl. You know we are always here for you.”

Octavia, however, is struggling in Vinyl's hug, and is turning blue in the face from the lack of oxygen. She tried to pull off Vinyl's arm around her neck, but with no prevail, she rasped, “I'm happy that you're... excited, Vinyl, but... unf... could you let me go?”

The DJ blushed and slowly let go of her friends. “Sorry about that... I just got a little carried away.”

As Octavia sat back down, flattened out her fur, and straightened her bow tie, she said in a slightly raspy voice, “It's quite alright. I just didn't want you to kill me.”

Vinyl laughed awkwardly. “Hehe... yeah.”

Lyra though just sat back down silently, with that grin still plastered on her face.

“Why is she being so quiet?” Octavia thinks suspiciously. “Lyra is never this quiet... She's up to something.” Though no matter how much the cellist gut told her that she should say something, Vinyl was the one she needed to direct her attention to... for now.

“So as I was saying, Lyra and I have figured out a sure fire cure for your problem, and it's actually very simple.”

“So simple in fact that it, just, might, work! Lyra adds crazily.

Vinyl couldn't help but grin. “What is it?”

“Music, Vinyl. Just music. We found a spell that will enhance the hypnotic powers of music, and will eventually help you fall blissfully to sleep,”Octavia saiad as she pretends to cradle her head in her arms like she is going off to her own slumber.

“That's brilliant!” Vinyl shouted.

Octavia nodded in agreement. “The only downside is that the speaker's volume needs to be on full blast, if we want this to be effective.”

Vinyl's ears droop. “Oh... “

“But we've solved that as well. Lyra found another spell, while I was cleaning up your room, that blocks all sounds from escaping from a certain area.”

“Dang... I wish I had known about that earlier, then I wouldn't have disturbed our neighbors.”

“Well if you had read your old school books from college, then you would have. That's where we discovered these two spells.”

Vinyl grinned sheepishly with a blush. “Hehe... I suppose so.”

“But there is one downside to that though.”

The unicorn arches an eyebrow. “What is it?”

“There can’t be any kind openings to your room, so basically... we have to lock you inside for the whole night.”

“Oh, that won’t be a problem. I’d prefer that, actually,” said a grinning Vinyl though her eyelids continued to droop.

Lyra continued to sit in silence and watch the scene in front of her. From what Octavia can see, the green-mint unicorn's face turned slightly red. She isn't blushing, but it's almost as if she was holding something back. It disturbed Octavia a bit.

“What's wrong with you, Lyra?”

She shook her head. “Nothing.”

Octavia looks at her in a “yeah, right” expression, but then turns to look at Vinyl kindly. “Everything is prepared for you in your room. All you have to do is turn your music up as loud as you can, which I know you won't have a problem with doing, and let the music take control.”

Lyra snickered at that, which caused Octavia and Vinyl to look at her questioningly.

The lyre player waved a hoof while her head turned. “I'm sorry... hehe... A random joke popped into my head. It just makes me laugh every time.”

“Indeed...” Octavia looked back at Vinyl. “So whenever you're ready Vinyl. Go back there, take a seat, and let the music do the rest.”

Vinyl calmly nodded at Octavia in response, and soon quickly headed back to her room. On the outside she showed no emotion of any kind, but her insides churn as she trotted. Sleep is only a few hoof lengths away, and she wholeheartedly desired nothing else that day. Being awake for several days at a time, takes a lot out of anypony, and on Vinyl, it caused a lot of aches and pains that she would never wish on her worst enemies.

Entering her room, the door knob suddenly had a green aura covering it and instantly the door shut and locked Vinyl inside. She jumped a bit by the sudden slam of it, but is soon forgotten when she sees her room. It is a dramatic difference to what she is used to. The whole right side of her room is now her soft bed, and a wooden dresser pushed against the wall that covered the length of it. Her equipment was now all on the left side. Instead of it being it's usual disorganized mess, Octavia put all her amp cords and microphones into separate stacks next to her speakers, and her turntables sat in the middle, and out from the wall. So Vinyl could have plenty of space to squeeze herself behind all of it. The unicorn grins by the sight. “I have to admit; Octavia is quite the maid,” she thought comically as she made her way behind the turntables.

Behind the turntables, Vinyl spotted a note taped to one her volume dials. With her magic, the unicorn lifted the piece of paper to read it. By the sloppy hoof writing and wording, the DJ knew right away it was Lyra's writing. She smirked after she looked it over and tossed it to the side. “Alright, Lyra, let's see what you did for me.”

Vinyl examined the electronic tables in front her. She pushed a couple of buttons, turned a few dials, and placed two records in their proper places, and when she found the “on” switch, the unicorn flipped it up. In result, the whole equipment was soon surrounded by a mint-green aura as a slow bouncing beat began to play constantly from the speakers. Vinyl could feel her body vibrate with each beat that reverberates heavily against her. She closed her eyes as her music mix flows into other electronic and heavy bass beats that seem to be actually working their magic on the unicorn. Her arms slid to her sides of the chair, and her legs went limp, now hanging freely in front of the seat. The ever so wonderful feeling of sleep is soon taking over her restless mind and body, but... there is a complication. For as long as the music continues to flow through her and the belief of sleep finally becoming a reality, it seems she can't go fully into that desired state.

Vinyl opened and closed her eyes several times as she tried to move her limbs, with no prevail. “What is going on?” she thought in a panic as a fast paced beat and electronic sounds easily came in-sync from the old, slower song. After a moment of struggling to move, Vinyl soon remembers the note Lyra left her. She mentally slaps herself forgetting about it so quickly, and soon gives up her fight to move. If Vinyl could give a deviant smile, it would be plastered across her face as she finally notices the equipment seem to be coming to life on their own.

Five amp cords with a green-mint aura of magic surrounding them, soon floated leisurely into the air and edged their way slowly around Vinyl, they're long, black tails wiggled around behind them like snakes ready to attack their prey. Once their heads were circling above the unicorn, four of the five cords each dived down and wrapped themselves around Vinyl's limbs and slowly lifted her in the air. The heavy bass and accelerated electronic sounds continue to play as she rises, and with another unknown cord rose behind her head and lifted it up so it wouldn’t hang. Once they stopped, the lonely amp cord that had been watching the others do their job, floated painfully slow toward the unicorn. An excited tension grew inside Vinyl as she watched the lone amp cord move in on her.

The head of it soon reached Vinyl’s inner thigh, nearly inches away from her marehood, slipped past her short fur, and slightly touched the edge of her skin. The tip withdrew a gasp from the helpless mare when it released a small electric shock onto her. It wasn’t a painful shock, but more like a nibble one would receive from their lover, and causing Vinyl’s fur to stick straight out on it’s own as a pleasurable tingle courses through her body.

After that, it quickly removed itself from her fur, creeped up closer to her moistening nethers, stopped less than an inch from it, and shocked her again. “Guh!” she moaned from the euphoric pain. “Oh man, I hope this only the start, because this is getting good,” She thought as the cord began to slide across the outer rim of Vinyl’s lower lips releasing small bursts of shocks as it traveled, causing the mare’s body to twitch mildly and uncontrollably as the tingling pleasure grew inside her.

It was then that the music started to do this deep hum and two mics from the glowing DJ’s turntables slithered up from behind the unaware unicorn. In a bizarre turn of events, the mics slowly begin to twist and distort into hands. Vinyl closed eyes once more as she felt a rising warmth in her chest from the pleasure cord biting kisses between her thighs and then gracefully up above her moist slit, teasing her to the brink . Her moans grew in volume with each love nibble. The hand’s fingers wiggled eagerly as they pressed against her neck before rolling their thumbs around the outside of her spine.

“O-o-o-o-o y-y-y-e-e-e-a-a-a-h-h-h,” she cooed as the hands seemed to be... vibrating, and pressed more firmly against her before working their way slowly down her back. The fingers soon rubbed in and out from the side of her shoulder blades. Her body was shivering and twitching in mid-air as if possessed by a machine. Vinyl could not think clearly at this point anymore, due to the amp cord still nibbling the inside of her inner thighs. With each wave of pleasure and pain, her luscious nether juice crawled out from her and dripped all over her stool

The loving hands soon reached her flank, petted her softly before the right one gave her a firm slap and as the left gripped her butt firmly. “Unf…” Vinyl groaned with a twitch. “Lyra… you rough cunt.” It was her last thought before the right hand slapped her flank again as the amp cord that had been teasing her relentlessly, finally slid between her dripping puffy pussy. If it wasn’t for the soundproof magic room, the cry of ecstasy from Vinyl could have been heard throughout the whole apartment. The left hand gripped her flank harder in response and the amp cord plunged in a bit deeper, rolling around leisurely inside her lips, more fluid leaking out of her.

It was then music got a bit louder and faster before the amp cord removed itself, and the slapping hand moved itself down to the plump, wet nethers, then placing it’s index and middle finger on the lips. Syncing with the speed of the music, the fingers were vibrating and rubbing Vinyl’s marehood with eager, circling motions. The mare’s horn soon glowed softly as her moan grew in volume. It was time to begin the grand finale.

The fingers pushed in deeper with it’s index and middle finger as the bass vibrated the hand itself faster and faster. The mare could not contain herself with each and every vibration. Her body twitched and leaked by the growing pleasure building up inside her. Then the hand began to pump in and out of her pink and weak marehood, causing more natural lubrication to flow out from her. The horn radiated brighter and brighter with the hand repeatedly plunging in her deep, moist depths. In spite of the loss of body control, Vinyl could still feel the foriegn fingers eagerly finding their way inside her.

Her eyes rolled to the back of her head the peak of pleasure was reaching its climax. The mares waist pressing upward more in the air obstreperous, giving the hand easier access to push in deeper and deeper. The bench below her, now soaked in her pleasure fluid. Vinyl’s horn was at its brightest while the music’s rhythm sped up and the hand pumped faster and faster. It was then the hand pulled out a bit slower this time before aiming itself like a cat going in for its prey. The cord behind it wiggled a bit before hurling itself as fast and as hard as it could into that moist cavern. She let out one final cry as multi-colored sparkling magic exploded out from her horn.

The music slowly died out as the cords lightly laid Vinyl out on her stool. She laid back as she took big leisurely breaths before opening her eyes. The turn tables were casually turning back to normal, but not before the mic hands gave her a small salute as if saying they had done a good job. Vinyl gave a snorted chuckle. “Yeah… you did good.” Once the DJ set was back to normal, the mare closed her eyes as the overwhelming sensation of sleep finally took her away to Luna’s dreamland.

“Octavia… “ Lyra said before she let out a big yawn. “Will you relax?”

Cellist shook her head. “She’s been in there for almost an hour now… How do we know it even worked?” She said desperately before looking back at Vinyl’s door.

Lyra smirked as she rolled her head a bit before stretching a leg. “Trust me, it worked.”

Octavia rolled her eyes at how confident Lyra sounded. “You don’t know that.”

“Well instead of pacing around, why don’t you check?” Lyra said with a chuckle.

Octavia soon stopped and blushed as she looked down, realizing she had been pacing so long there was almost an indention in the floor. She then looked at Lyra and huffed as if offended by the suggestion, “Fine. I will.”

As soon as Octavia turned away, Lyra’s horn glowed causing the lock and the sound proof barrier to be released from the room. The earth pony soon turned the knob and quietly opened the door.

“Oh my sweet Celestia!” Octavia said in a load whisper.
There in the middle of the room was Vinyl slumped over in her chair and nethers fully exposed to the earth pony. The smell of her pungent nethers was thick and powerful partially causing Octavia to feel a bit light headed. The chair was fully soaked in Vinyl’s juices, and there was a huge scorch mark on the wall behind the mare.

“What in the Tartarus…” It was then Octavia’s eyes rolled to the back of her head as she closed them and quickly collapsed to the floor with a soft bump.

“Octavia?” Lyra’s head tilted to the side as she laughed some before getting up to get a better look at the scene. Now whether Octavia fainted because of what she saw or the deep, sweet scent of Vinyl’s sexual release, it did not matter to Lyra. The mare began to laugh so hard that tears began to stroll down her cheeks. “Lyra, you have made quite a mess here, now didn’t ya?”

“Yes, Yes I did,” She said as she looked around amusingly at her handiwork, wiping a tear off her face. After a moment of taking it all in, she hummed gleefully as magically lifted both the mares into the bed and covered them with Vinyl’s blanket.

“Goodnight, you two,” She said softly before kissing them softly on the forehead before walking out the room and closing the door. There on the floor beside the turntables was Lyra’s note. “Whatever happens in the next few seconds. Don’t Panic!”

Lyra grinned almost insanely as she laid down on the couch and closed her eyes. “You did good, Lyra, you did good.”

The End
