Chapter 6

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Starlight looked on as the colored beams swirled around the six ponies, all focusing on the villain in the middle.

Villain.

A word familiar to the now headmare of a friendship school. The anger in the ponies’ faces, and that cry of anger from the king, it all twisted into an awful sense.

Only a second to think, but the only thing Starlight knew to do. The Twilight thing to do, was to stop the same alicorn from doing something she would regret.

Reaching out a hoof, Starlight hooked it around her friend’s wing.
“Twilight!”

The distraction caused the cyclone to decrease, without the sixth member. The princess’ face was curled in a snarl, eyes bright with rage. But upon seeing the distress in Starlight’s eyes, the emotion switched.

“You can’t do this again!” The pink unicorn held her gaze. “This isn’t what we do.”

Twilight settled her shoulders, wings drooping to her side. The magic ceased.

But the princess turned away, looking accusingly at the stallion.
“But he’s a monster! We have to get rid of him, for good.”

Starlight took a few steps, putting herself in Twilight’s eyesight. “And what about me?”

Twilight froze.

“And Discord, Trixie, Stygian?”

Rarity, Apple Jack, and Rainbow overheard the names, and all seven now stood still.

Starlight looked down at the grey unicorn curled up on the ground. “You’re the Princess of Friendship.”
She muttered, letting Twilight turn her attention to Sombra once more.

Movement from the stallion drew all eyes, just as some of the garrison lancers rounded the street. King Sombra sat up, staring at the ground as a final tear fell from his deep red eyes. Everypony was silent, and the guards slowly advanced into a wide ring. They kept their blades pointed in as they moved in, and the elements all gathered together on either side of Twilight.

All Sombra did was glance around at the guards, until fixing his tired gaze on Twilight and her friends. The princess was confused about his sudden change in character, perhaps defeat had drained him. But even more so as the officer instructed the arrest of the now compliant stallion.

Watching the dark unicorn be taken to the sheriff station was only the start of the new downward spiral of Twilight’s plans, and it was all too clear to her.
