Fire and Flame
The Fight
Load Full StoryPain coursed through Dusk's body as he was thrown against the stone wall of the ruins. Dusk is a monster hunter while being part monster himself. He took jobs from the king, Drelus, to hunt monsters that threatened to harm the innocent. But this job was too much. He was sent to find and dispose of the remains of a demon that had threatened to destroy the kingdom thousands of years ago. The remains were gathered at the ruins of the cult that had worshiped the demon. He expected it to go smoothly, like his recent scrape with a chimera. But he underestimated.
He expected the usual demon. Red, horns, spewing fire everywhere. But this was different. It seemed to bend time and space as it went along ravaging Dusk's being. It had the head of what look like a goat, to miss matched horns and many other body parts. Not wanting to take this beating on his knees, Dusk slowly got to his feet, propping himself on his sword. He lunged at the beast and drove his sword forward, only to have the thing laugh maniacally and step out of the way. As Dusk passed him he swung his sword to his right in hopes of halving the monster. All he was greeted with was air. The thing had disappeared but he could still hear its laugh. Suddenly, Dusk had what felt like the paw of a lion forcefully driven into his back, breaking a few bones. He was launched forward but just lost the will to fight back. Never in his life had he lost to a monster. He heard footsteps slowly get louder has he felt a cold, hard grip surround his neck and slowly brought him up to face the beast. Having no more strength to fight, he dropped his worn, broken blade as his feet left the ground.
"Well? Is that the best you have? Hmm?" the beast stared at him with a smug look on its face. "Well, now that's just not going to cut it, is it?"
Dusk weakly swung his right arm at the beast only to have it grabbed and twisted. He shouted in searing pain has he felt cracking, leaving his arm limp and useless.
"You need to learn a lesson or two." The creature brought up its arm and it began to glow, slowly opening a portal.
"And I know just what to do."
The monster brought Dusk back and began to start laughing again before throwing him into the dark abyss.
Dusk heard the laughter slowly fade as he was consumed by the black door. The pain, strangely enough, started to leave from his body, but instead was greeted by a cold tingly feeling. Not the feeling you get in the snow, but what you get when you quickly touch very hot water. He drifted on for what felt like hours until he saw a light. It started small. Like a seed. But then it grew. As Dusk drew closer and closer to the strange glow, the cold feeling started to go away, only to be replaced by burning. Searing, hot, burning engulfed his entire body. His body felt like he was bathing in boiling oil in the very depths of hell. The light made his skin feel like it was about to bubble and burst. He tried to scream in pain but all that came out was air, which he couldn't breath back in. He couldn't think, speak, or move. All he could do was just feel pain. Absolute, pain.
The sound of hooves on wood could be heard from the small wooden door. "Ugh, this early?" a small purple dragon said as he swing his small legs over his bed. Spike began to expect this from time to time. Where Twilight would pace around in the early morning about some meaningless problem like a missing book or a paper that has been misplaced.
"Twilight, can you keep it down? Dragons need sleep to you know." Spike said groggily as he peeked from atop the stairs.
"Oh, um, sorry spike, i'm just stressed is all." Twilight said after being brought out of her concentration.
"Let me guess, you're behind on your schedule again?" Spike said, annoyed.
"Yea that's exactly it! I forgot to make room to plan next month so i have no time to plan the month after that! Ugh, what am I going to do?" Twilight worried as she began to pace the room again.
"Do what you always do, have somepony else come and help and let the dragons get back to bed." Spike said with a yawn.
"Spike, that's genius! I can summon somepony to help!" Twilight exclaimed. The dragon was snapped out of his sleepy trance and his eyes widened.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. That's not what i meant. Remember what happened last time? How you summoned that bear?" Spike said with a shudder, remembering the attack that transpired from Twilight's summoning antics.
"Ugh, yes, I remember Spike. But I promise, this time it will be different!"
"Boy, do I hope so"
"Okay Spike, stand back!"
Twilight started to concentrate magic into her horn as spike took cover behind a couch. Twilight's magic started to intensify as a small dark glow began to form in front of her. The more she concentrated, the bigger the hole became. The she heard a faint sizzling noise that began to grow louder and louder as the portal opened wider. Soon after the portal opened fully a blur of brown flew out of the blackness and the sound of someone smashing against a wall then hitting the floor shortly followed. She canceled the spell immediately and looked to see the cause of the crash. Her eyes instantly were fixed on what looked to be a bipedal creature on the floor in brown, burnt clothing with a strange black scared eye, sizzling, and gasping for air. She took one small step forward, but was thrown back as the creature screamed in agonizing pain.
