The battle between Spike and the mayor continued, the young trainer had managed to get closer to victory thanks to Treecko who had defeated the Gym Leader's Miltank.

“Keep it up Spike, good job Treecko,” Cozy Glow shouted from the stands with great emotion.

But it wouldn't be an easy victory because now they would have to fight against their last Pokémon, a Wigglytuff, which would be their main obstacle separating them from their first Badge.

“So a Wigglytuff,” said Spike who took out his PokeDex to analyze it.

Name: Wigglytuff.
Type: Normal/Fairy.
Info: Wigglytuff, the Moon Singer Pokémon, Wigglytuff body is so flexible, that allows to expand herself without limits.

“Your Treecko is very strong, but so is my Wigglytuff,” the mayor told him, “If you want the badge, you'll need more than just strength to win, Spike.”

“Thanks for the advice, we'll use it right now,” Spike responded with a smile and he turned to Treecko, “Treecko, use Absorb.”

“Treeeeeeckooooo,” Treecko shouted and at that moment, some orbs of green energy surrounded Wigglytuff, then those same orbs went to Treecko who absorbed them, he no longer looked so exhausted.

“Tuff,” Wigglytuff said as she made a gesture as if she was wiping dust off her shoulder.

“Good thinking Spike, that would balance things out a little,” Cozy Glow told him from the stands.
Spike smiled, “I know Cozy, Treecko can handle her, I'm sure.”

“Stealing my Pokémon's energy won't do you much good,” the mayor said with a smile, then she turned to Wigglytuff, “Wigglytuff, use Double Slap.”

“TUFFF,” shouted Wigglytuff, acquiring a malevolent gesture that made Treecko uncomfortable, and at devilish speed she attacked the grass type Pokémon.

SLAP SLAP.

“KOOOO,” Treecko shouted as he received Wigglytuff's slaps.

“Oh no Treecko,” Spike shouted, worried for his partner.

But at that moment Treecko escaped, staying at a safe distance, Treecko smiled and raised his thumb to Spike to indicate that he was okay, “Treecko treee.”

“Alright Treecko, go get her, use Pound,” Spike ordered to which Treecko attacked Wigglytuff who didn't look worried, something that didn't go unnoticed by Cozy Glow.

“Oh no, it's a trap,” Cozy Glow said, to which Dilcy who was still in her arms nodded, “Dreavus dre.”

“Now Wigglytuff, use Protect,” the mayor ordered at the same time that Wigglytuff formed a kind of barrier, Treecko collided with it which absorbed the attack.

“Treecko, get away from there,” Spike shouted but to no avail.

“Now finish it with Tri Attack,” said the mayor and at that moment Wigglytuff conjured a huge triangle, one corner was blue, another was red and the last was yellow, that triangle was heading towards Treecko who couldn't dodge it, impacting directly on him.

CRASH

“No, Treecko,” Spike said worriedly.

“Treeeee……ckooooo,” was all Treecko could say as he lay on the ground with spirals in his eyes.

“Treecko cannot continue, the winner is Wigglytuff,” Amethyst Star announced.

“Treecko come back,” Spike returned Treecko to his pokeball, “Good job buddy, you did very well, now rest.”

“Now they're even, there's only one Pokémon left for each of them,” said Cozy Glow, worried about her friend.

Spike looked at his pokeball, then looked at the mayor, who was looking at him with a smile, but far from being intimidated, he smiled, "The Gym Leaders are really strong, this is exciting."

“What do you say Spike, do you think you can continue?” the mayor asked him.

“You bet, Mayor,” Spike responded and at that moment he turned to Peewee who was resting on his shoulder, “Are you ready to fight Peewee?”

“Liiiiing,” nodded Peewee who flew directly to the battlefield.

“Alright, then I choose you, Peewee.”

“A Fletchling, interesting,” the mayor thought.

“Let the battle begin,” Amethyst Star announced.

“Give it your all Wigglytuff,” the mayor said to which Wigglytuff nodded with a smile, “TUFFFFF.”

“Go for it Peewee, use Agility,” Spike ordered Peewee who nodded, “Fletch…”

Peewee flew so fast that there seemed to be 2 of them.

“Increasing speed, well thought out, but we also have something to counter that,” the mayor said, while Wigglytuff seemed to prepare for something, “Use Sing.”

“Sing?” Spike wondered.

“Sing,” exclaimed Cozy Glow who knew what would happen.

And at that moment, Wigglytuff began to sing a strange song which sounded beautiful to Spike and Cozy, while to Peewee and Dilcy it sounded relaxing.

“Fletch,” said Peewee, who seemed to feel tired.

And that was when Spike remembered one of the lessons his sister used to give him, “Wait a minute, I remembered, that move.”

At that moment Peewee fell, a bubble began to form in his beak, he was asleep.

“It can put Pokémon to sleep,” Spike said worriedly, “Peewee, wake up.”

“It's useless, that's our best move, not everyone is able to escape,” the mayor told him, “Now Wigglytuff, use Double Slap.”

Spike gritted his teeth in frustration as he saw Wigglytuff approaching Peewee.

“WIGGLYTUFF,” he shouted as he began to slap the Fletchling.

“Please Peewee, wake up,” Spike shouted.

CRASH

After the blows, Peewee was sent flying to a corner of the battlefield.

“Oh no,” said Cozy Glow.

“It's time to end this,” the mayor said as a triangle manifested in Wigglytuff's arms, “Wigglytuff, use Tri Attack.”

“TUFFFF,” Wigglytuff threw the triangle at Peewee who was still asleep.

But no one counted on the bond that Spike and Peewee shared, they were close even before they began their journey.

“Peewee, don't let them beat you like that, I know you're very strong, because we've both waited a long time for this opportunity,” Spike told him as the attack got closer.

And it was there, where something inside Peewee awakened, which caused him to release himself from the effect of the chant, “LIIING.”

Peewee woke up and dodged the attack just inches from hitting him.

“Impossible,” said the surprised mayor.

“Golly, that was unexpected but awesome at the same time,” Cozy Glow said in amazement.

“Well done Peewee, that was wonderful,” Spike told him.

“Fletchling,” Peewee smiled at him.

Spike and Peewee breathed calmly, and after exhaling, Spike gave the command, “Now Peewee, use Brave Bird.”

“FLETCH….LIIIIIINGG,” Peewee shouted as an aura of energy surrounded him, and at inhuman speed he headed towards Wigglytuff.

“Wait, does that Fletchling know Brave Bird?” the mayor asked herself in shock.

Fortunately for Spike, that was what stopped the mayor from ordering Wigglytuff to dodge him.

“GO,” Spike yelled as Peewee charged at Wigglytuff.

“TUFFFFF,” shouted the pink Pokémon which could not escape the impact.

“Wigglytuff,” the mayor shouted, concerned for her.

A cloud of dust filled the battlefield.

After a few seconds the cloud of dust dissipated, revealing Peewee who was fine, as he flew.

“Wiggly,” was the last thing Wigglytuff said as she lay on the ground with spirals in her eyes, having been weakened.

Amethyst Star approached, she gave the verdict raising her arm, “Wigglytuff is unnable to battle, the winner is Fletchling, the victory goes to the challenger Spike.”

“I, I won,” Spike said to himself in shock, then looked at Peewee who returned to his shoulder, “No, we, we won.”

And that's when it hit, so Spike and Peewee jumped for joy, Spike even had tears in his eyes while he was in the air, “WE WON.”

“FLETCH FLETCHLING,” Peewee celebrated.

“WE DID IT, PEEWEE, WE DID IT,” Spike said, still with tears in his eyes, hugging Peewee.

Cozy Glow and Dilcy came running from the stands, Cozy lunged at Spike to hug him.

PFFFT

“Spike, that was amazing,” Cozy Glow told him.

“Misdreavus,” Dilcy said to Peewee.

“Thank you girls,” Spike said before he turned to the mayor, Wigglytuff, who was leaning on the mayor's arm, and Amethyst Star, “Thank you for accepting my challenge, I'm really grateful.”

“I'm the one who should thank you little one, aren't I Wigglytuff?”

“Tuff,” agreed Wigglytuff who shook hands with Peewee and he accepted the greeting using his wings, “Ling.”

“You gave your best in this battle, you and your Pokémon tried very hard, and that's why you managed to beat us,” the mayor told them as she began to take something out of her pockets, “And that's why you won this, the test of that you defeated a Gym Leader.”

The mayor gave Spike a kind of Badge which looked like a horseshoe, "Spike, you have defeated the Ponyville Gym so you have earned the Horseshoe Badge."

"Wow..."Spike gasped as he took the badge and held it up, "Alright, I just won...THE HORSESHOE BADGE!"

“Fletch Fletchling,” Peewee celebrated.

“Congratulations Spike, you now have one,” Cozy Glow congratulated him.

“Only 7 more to get into the Equestria League,” Spike replied.

“I'm sure you'll make it to the league, and if it helps, the closest gym is in Zebrica,” the mayor told him, “Fortunately, we have a ship that will sail directly there in 3 days, so we invite you to join us to wait here in Ponyville.”

Spike and Cozy Glow nodded gratefully, “Thank you Mayor Mare.”

They said goodbye and left the place, eager for the next challenges that would come.
