MEGA Macintosh: The Life of a Titan
Chapter 4- It's a secret
Previous ChapterClop. Clop. Clop. Clop
Big Macintosh sighed happily as he made his way down the streets of Ponyville, waving to all of the familiar town residences he came across. Today was his day off from working on the farm. A much-needed day off. Applejack was taking a break from her element of harmony duties after the aftermath of his own giant escapades and that little ordeal with the queen of the changelings becoming a titan of her own, so she had offered to take up an extra load of chores because in her words “Ah’ve been lacking with mah duties on our here apple farm. So why doncha take a load off big brother! Ah’ll take things from here!”
Applejack’s word’s rang in Big Macintosh’s ears as he strode through the marketplace, just coincidentally where he ended up as he wandered through Ponyville. He browsed through the first of the stalls, looking over what some merchants had brought with them from the big cities like Las Pegasus or Manehatten. Mostly jewelry from their parent stores back in the city. Though it didn’t stop Big Mac from whistling with awe as he looked at the elegantly carved diamonds, rings, necklaces, and other fancy stuff that he was comfortable just browsing through.
“Ah, what a good eye you have there sir!” the voice of the merchant floated over as Big Macintosh inspected a particularly dazzling necklace. Its chain was made of a mixture of gold and platinum was a large flower carved expertly from amethyst hanging from the middle. The merchant, a mare with green fur, a black mane, and a gem cutie mark picked up the necklace and held it in front of Big Mac so he could take a closer look “Trying to find something for a special somepony?” she asked “a marefriend perhaps?”
“Ah wish,” said Big Macintosh with a bashful smile “No marefriend just yet, but maybe one day,”
The salespony smiled, “Well, I’m sure whoever it is will be a lucky mare ending up with a big guy like yourself,” she chuckled, putting back down the necklace onto its display. Big Mac thanked her and waved goodbye as he walked away to go check out the other stalls that were set up. Though, as he made his way away from the stall, a thought occurred the him. Amethyst and other gems came from the earth right? Well, he now had the power to control nature to a degree no other earth pony could ever dream. Could he…create gems too?
Big Macintosh blinked, standing up straighter as his mind began to flood with the possibilities if this was doable. But, he did have to test it out first. Big Mac ducked down into a nearby ally, thankfully he didn’t have to worry about Pinkie Pie spontaneously popping up beside him as she and the rest of her friends, save for Applejack who needed to return to the farm for her duties, were still in Canterlot following the recent peace treaty with the Changelings, and needed to stay and help the delegates and Queen Chrysalis get more familiar with being among ponies.
Coming to a halt between two stores, one that sold couches and quills and another that sold office supplies, Big Mac began to paw the ground beneath himself, feeling the dirt and ground, and began to concentrate. His hoof and cutie mark began to glow green as he activated his magic and concentrated, trying to form an amethyst. He felt the earth swirling below himself, but that was about it. Signing, Big Macintosh opened his eyes, disappointed.
“Well, maybe a different type of gem would work,” he muttered, closing his eyes again and tried to form a diamond. But once again this yielded nothing. He tried again with a sapphire, ruby, opal, pearl, amber, and various other gems, but in the end it wasn’t able to work.
“Ah guess this might be too complex? Maybe that’s why Ah can’t make them,” Big Macintosh wondered “Or maybe Ah just don’t know how ta do that yet,”
Whatever the case was, it did require further testing of his abilities. Something he could do for later. But Big Macintosh couldn’t lie, not being able to form gems was a bummer. It would have really helped out the farm and his family if he could create them on a whim. Disappointed, he walked out of the ally and back out onto the streets of Ponyville, his head held low as he walked around again. Sure, he could manipulate the plants and crops just fine and make them bigger and healthier of he needed to as well as essentially finish the harvest in a few minutes with a flick of his hoof and sit back and watch the entire field come to life and do the harvest itself, but having a way to make extra money would have seriously come in handy.
Pushing the gloomy thoughts out of his head, Big Macintosh decided he could go to one of the places he frequented to cheer himself up as well as get a bite to eat. Sugarcube Corner. Straightening up, he walked over to the familiar gingerbread house and bakery and gently pushed open the door, being greeted by the smell of delicious confectionary delights and other baked goods. It seemed to be a slow day today, in fact, it looked like Big Macintosh was the only one in Sugarcube Corner today. Not that he was complaining, in fact, some peace and quiet sounded quite nice compared to the constant hustle and bustle of the marketplace. He walked over to the counter and rang the bell.
“I’ll be out in a minute!” came the familiar voice of Mrs. Cake from the back room.
“Eeyup,” Big Macintosh said nonchalantly as he ideally tapped his hooves on the counter, taking time to look at the menu and glance at what was in the display cases to decide what he wanted to get.
“Phew! All done. Welcome to Sugarcube Corner! How may I help- oh, hello Big Macintosh,” Mrs. Cake greeted as she walked up to the register “Did you have a message for Pinkie Pie from Applejack? I’m sorry but she isn’t back from Canterlot yet,” she said.
“Eenope. Ah just wanted ta order some food,” Big Mac replied, taking out some bits
“Oh, of course! What can I get you today?” Mrs. Cake asked, tapping a few buttons on the register and grabbing a notepad.
“Ah’ll have ah vanilla milkshake an a two of tha peach cobblers,” Big Macintosh said, taking another glance at the display case,”
“Anything else dear?” Mrs. Cake asked as she wrote down the items on her notepad.
“Eenope,” Big Mac replied as he handed over the bits for the purchase and went to go sit down at one of the tables by the window as he waited for his food. After a few minutes Mrs. Cake walked over to where Big Macintosh was sitting, holding a serving tray in her mouth with his purchase on top. She set the tray down on the table and handed him his food “Here you go Big Mac, one vanilla milkshake and two peach cobblers. Enjoy!” Mrs. Cake said with a smile.
“Thank ya kindly Mrs. Cake,” Big Mac said. Mrs. Cake nodded, picked up the tray and walked back over to the counter to resume her work, which seemed to be working on some sort of cake. A very large and ceremonial cake by the looks of it. But Big Mac didn’t question it, instead he turned his attention back outside the window and gazed outside, watching the various ponies as they went about their day and the things they were doing, such as a few foals playing tag in the streets, adults chatting away about the latest gossip, and one or two ponies reading a newspaper about the mysterious titan that only appears at night, with ponies still wondering if it was a hoax or not and whether or not the mysterious titan was responsible for all the giant apple treats that were being left all around Equestria.
It was something he was proud of to be honest, his city sculptures were coming along great! He had already made Manehatten, Ponyville, Las Pegasus, Van Hoover, The Crystal Empire, and Canterlot. Ponies were already going to Big Macintosh and asking for a commission of their favorite location, and Big Mac was always happy to make whatever landmark they’d please. And of course, whenever he needed to shrink a city or some other object to use as reference, he always made sure to leave the ponies with a giant apple treat as compensation and thanks for their help. So far it looked like everyone was happy with the free food and some were trying to figure out what the recipe was because it was so good, which did bring a smile to Big Mac’s face, knowing he was able to fill ponies bellies with good food, just like his family has always done.
“There you are dear!” The familiar voice of Mrs. Cake said in the background. Big Macintosh swiveled his head around while he was chewing on his second peach cobbler, the first one already finished, and looked behind him. There, he saw the familiar form of Mr. Cake, who looked exhausted, walk into the bakery and close the door behind him.
“Hi honey buns,” he greeted tiredly, giving his wife a nuzzle and taking a stack of dirty baking trays from her and walking over to the sink to wash them.
“Did you have any luck?” Mrs. Cake asked
Mr. Cake shook his head sadly “No, I’m afraid not. None of the stores in Ponyville had any pepper step sugar. It’s that only retailer in Van Hoover that has it and he couldn’t make the delivery last week. Now I don’t know how we’re going to make that special welcoming cake the princess ordered from us for the changeling welcoming party Pinkie is throwing up in Canterlot. We only have two more days to finish it!” he said frantically.
“I know dear, I’m sure we’ll come up with something. Maybe we can ask the princess if we can make something else?” Mrs. Cake suggested.
“I don’t know honey, you know how much Princess Celestia really likes her cakes. And if this is the one she’s ordered from us, chances are this is the one she has a mighty fine craving for,” Mr. Cake said dejectedly, sighing as he dried the last of the trays he was working on and stacked the neatly on the drying rack “I’m going to go back downstairs into the cellar and see if we might have overlooked anything and have a sack of the sugar stashed away somewhere,” Mr. Cake called over his shoulder as he opened the door to the cellar and walked downstairs, leaving Mrs. Cake to man the register and check on the display goods.
Big Mac frowned, turning away from the conversation, his eyebrows furrowed in concentration as he contemplated a few things. The Cakes were old time friends of his family’s for quite some time and they were in a spot of trouble, looks like something had gone wrong during a delivery for a special ingredient they needed to bake a cake for the princesses and the timetable wasn’t doing them any favors.
“Ah could just go ta Van Hoover mahself an get tha sugar,” Big Mac dwelled on the thought “After all, if Ah just get big enough then Ah could be there in a few minutes by walking,” but that idea was quickly shot down “Even if Ah do go there, Ah’d have no idea where ta look for ta sugar. Ah don’t even know who makes it,”
So that was one idea shot down, another one was growing the plants that made the sugar himself. But like the first idea, that plan was also a no go, because even though Big Macintosh could grow the plants in seconds, harvesting them and making actual sugar out of the sugar canes would be a lengthy and timely process. Time that the Cakes were clear they did not have. Which just left the third option.
What if…he went to Van Hoover that night, and brought one of the Cakes with him? But to do so, he’d have to tell them that he still had his Titan magic.
“Ah wouldn’t do that,” the cynical part of his mind chimed in “After all, yer supposed ta be all through with that whole titan mess. As far as everypony knows, yer back ta normal! What if they go an tell somepony else?”
“That don’t matter!” Big Macintosh argued with himself “Ah’ve always made sure ta do Ma and Pa proud by doing tha right thing. An this ain’t no different,” Big Macintosh sighed heavily, finishing his food and glanced back over at the dejected Mrs. Cake behind the counter “This ain’t no different,” he told himself again firmly as he got up from his chair and walked over to the counter.
“Hmmmm? Oh sorry Big Macintosh, did you want to buy something else?” Mrs. Cake asked, standing up a little straighter, though there was no joy in her eyes, only worry about the end of the week.
“Actually Mrs. Cake, Ah couldn’t help but overhear what you an Mr. Cake were talking about,” Big Macintosh said.
“Sorry dearie, we didn’t mean to talk about it so loudly,” Mrs. Cake said.
“It’s no problem, but Ah was wondering, is there no other way ta get that sugar y’all need?” Big Mac asked.
“I wished there was, but at this point, the only way to get the pepper step sugar would be to buy it directly at the source at Van Hoover. But that’s impossible,” Said Mrs. Cake.
“Well, what if Ah go and walk ta Van Hoover tonight an get tha sugar? An if ya want, you can come with me ta get it since Ah don’t know tha area that well,” Big Macintosh suggested, to which Mrs. Cake only looked at him with confusion.
“But, how would that work? Van Hoover is much to far for us to walk to it,” Mrs. Cake said.
Big Macintosh sighed, this was it “Do ya remember when Ah got hit with that growth spell an it made me really big?” He asked.
Mrs. Cake nodded “It’d be a while before any of us forgets that, Big Mac. You were so big you could have held Canterlot mountain like it was a cupcake! I’m sure you must have been relieved that the princesses got you that potion to make you turn back to normal,” she said “But why are you bringing this up?”
“Well…” Big Mac said, before turning his attention to a bag of flour behind Mrs. Cake “This is why,”
Big Macintosh activated his magic and in the blink of an eye, the bag of sugar was shrunk down to the size of a gumdrop.
“Oh my word!” Mrs. Cake gasped, looking at the miniaturized flour with shock taking a few steps back, before slowly looking back at Big Macintosh “Did…did you do that?” she asked.
Big Mac nodded “Turns out, when tha princesses gave me that potion, they didn’t really get it right. All it made me do was give me better control over mah magic and keep tha titan magic as well. Now, mah earth pony magic got amplified ta an absurd degree, an now Ah can grow and shrink anything Ah want. As big or small as Ah wish,”
Mrs. Cake blinked “Big Mac, the papers keep talking about some mysterious third titan that only appears at night. I thought it was just rumors or some foals playing a prank, but, is it you?” she asked hesitantly, almost in a whisper.
“Eeyup, guilty as charged,” Big Macintosh said as he grew the flour back to normal behind her “I’ve been practicing mah magic mostly at night ta get a hang of it. It was a little difficult at first but overtime Ah’ve managed ta figure it out,”
“So, does that mean you’re also the one who’s been leaving all those giant apple treats laying around Equestria?” Mrs. Cake asked “Why? Because that was the only thing that made me doubt that the whole mystery titan thing was a prank. After all, who could go through that much trouble to make giant baked goods and nopony would see them?”
“Didja hear that Ah’ve been sculpting landmarks for a while now?” Big Macintosh asked, to which Mrs. Cake slowly nodded “Well, Ah did need a reference fer it every now and again, so Ah borrowed tha real thing occasionally. After Ah was done, Ah’d leave an Apple family special with them as thanks, an ta make up fer all tha trouble,”
Mrs. Cake now looked like she resembled a goldfish as she tried to make heads or tails put of the sheer absurdity of the statement Big Mac had made, and yet, it absolutely made sense.
“But back ta mah original idea Mrs. Cake. Would ya like ta accompany me tonight ta go get the sugar ya need?” Big Macintosh asked again.
“W-well,” Mrs. Cake looked hesitant at first for only a second, before a steely determination filled her. They really did need the sugar and Big Mac, out of nothing more than the kindness of his heart (“Just like his mother,” Mrs. Cake thought fondly) revealed a huge secret about himself just so he can help her “Alright then, we can go tonight,”
“Sounds good. Meet me outside of Sugarcube corner under tha lamplight tonight at midnight,” Big Mac said, turning around to leave.
“Wait Big Mac, before you go, would it be alright for me to tell Carrot Cake about what we’re doing?” Mrs. Cake asked “I don’t want to just up and leave in the middle of the night with no explanation in case one of the foals wakes up and Carrot is wondering where I am,”
“Eeyup,” was all Big Mac said before waving Mrs. Cake goodbye and heading out, leaving her to her thoughts and process everything that was just revealed to her.
The rest of the day passed relatively quickly for Big Macintosh as he now had something to look forward to later on that night. After he got home from his time in Ponyville he greeted his family as he entered the door, giving Apple Bloom a hug, before going up to his room to finish up the finishing touches on Lyra’s commission of the Crystal Empire mini model. He carved out the remaining pieces of the top of the castle before shrinking down himself and smoothing it out with some sandpaper, accompanied by some vines guiding him along and another one holding up his sketch book of measurements he had taken of the entire empire. After all was said and done, Big Mac glanced at the clock, realizing he better finish up now, because it was time for him to go and meet Mrs. Cake.
Using his magic once again, Big Mac had a vine wrap around himself and set him back down on the floor. There he quickly grew himself back to normal size and dispelled the vines that had still been hanging around his room. “Now that all that’s done, time ta go meet up with Mrs. Cake,” Big Macintosh thought to himself, going over to the window and opening it up. From there, a thought was all it took for entire patches of dirt, grass, and moss to form underneath his hooves and form stairs going all the way down to the ground from the second story which his bedroom was located on.
“If Ah didn’t know any better, Ah’d say Ah’ve gotten as good with mah nature magic as Twilight has with her unicorn magic,” Big Macintosh said out loud to himself as he made his way down the stairs, stepping onto the soft grass and dispelling the stairs behind him without so much as a glace backwards and made his way over to Ponyville. It was quiet as he walked through the streets, though, that shouldn’t come as a surprise considering every time he had grown titan sized and nobody had noticed it because they were all asleep. But the one thing that did stand out to him as he rounded the corner into the town plaza, was the light of Sugarcube corner still on.
Making his way over to the bakery, Big Mac raised his hoof and knocked on the closed door. He stood there and waited for a few seconds as the sound of hooves could be heard approaching
“Oh, you’re here already Big Macintosh,” she said
“Eeyup,” said Big Mac
Mrs. Cake looked over her shoulder and called out “Honey, Mac is here!” further inside Sugarcube corner, the sound of hoofsteps could be heard as Mr. Cake, with the twins on his back, made his way over to the front door.
“Thanks for the heads up dear,” Mr. Cake said. He looked at Big Macintosh and said “Well, at first I didn’t really believe it Big Mac, but I didn’t see any reason for Cup Cake to lie. I told her that I’d stay behind to look after our foals. But I have to know, did you really keep that size magic you got hit with?” he asked.
“Eeyup. It never really went away ta be honest Mr. Cake. If anything ta potion that tha princesses gave me only gave me better control over mah abilities,” Big Macintosh told the other stallion, who was busy soaking up the information with curiosity.
“And now you’re gonna grow both yourself and Cup Cake just to walk over to Van Hoover and grab the sugar we need? It works just like that?” He asked.
“Eeyup,” Big Macintosh answered “Easier than making a barrel of apple cider.” Big Macintosh turned to Mrs. Cake “Are ya ready?”
“Well, I’m ready as I’ll ever be,” she said, walking forward towards him.
“Ok, Ah’ll start, once ya get enough, take ah step outside of Ponyville since there won’t be much room ta stand in tha town,” Big Macintosh said as his eyes and cutie mark began to glow.
“O-ok?” Mrs. Cake said hesitantly as she began to glow with a similar green glow matching Big Macintosh’s magic. And what happened next still left her speechless. She felt her hooves on the ground, but she could see the ground began to fall away and her vision began to rise as she began to grow. It started slow at first, but soon she was as tall as the trees, surrounding the town, and then rivaling the height of one of the buildings found inside the big cities. She followed Big Mac’s advice and took a step away from the town once she got large enough, a feat that still left her in awe. A single step was all it took now before she could step through the entire town.
But the two of them weren’t done yet. Ahead of Mrs. Cake stood Big Macintosh, still proportionally the same size as normal to her, though hundreds of times bigger in reality, and his magic continued to grow them both. Past the size of a building they grew, Ponyville began to dwindle in size below them as they began to rise above the mountains. Mrs. Cake let out a breath and watched with shock as the force of the warm air caused the once huge formation to quiver on its foundation and blew some snow off the top of the mountains and melted it on its way down.
“Just a little bit more,” came Big Macintosh’s voice to her, shaking her out of her observations for a second, a slight echo to his voice as he concentrated, emanating even more magic from himself. With wide eyes, Mrs. Cake saw that even the tops of the mountains began to dwindle in front of her as she continued to rise. She was just beginning to wonder just how huge Big Macintosh was going to make them before the magic surrounding her faded away.
And now, their heads were literally inside the clouds. Or more accurately, above them.
“W-wow,” Mrs. Cake whispered to herself, not daring to move just yet but nevertheless, still looked around at the ground surrounding herself “That magic you have, it’s really strong,” she said tentatively.
“Eeyup!” Big Mac said proudly as he began to walk around, Mrs. Cake wincing as she heard his hoofalls very clearly, even from her great height and the sheer power behind each step. Big Macintosh’s experience at being this huge clearly shining through.
Mrs. Cake looked down, spying the coin sized shape down between either side of her hooves. Ponyville. Right down there, the town she had known most her life, once seeming so big and imposing, now reduced to the size of a bit. Something she could scoop out of the ground and put inside her pocket and walk around with it. Hesitantly, she lowered her head down towards the ground.
RUMMMMMMMBBBBBLLLLEEE
The air shook as the titanic form of Mrs. Cake leaned down. Inside Ponyville, all the houses quivered and Mr. Cake felt his hooves shaking against the oppressing air as he looked up nervously and saw the absolutely colossal form of his wife towering above him, her hooves standing on either side of the town, and lowering her massive head down towards him.
“H-honey?! C-can you hear me up there?” Mr. Cake hesitantly called up to the titan.
“IT’S ALL SO…SMALL NOW,” Came the booming and powerful voice of Mrs. Cake shaking the ground and unintentionally answering his question that no, she could not hear him. Though that didn’t stop Pound Cake and Pumpkin Cake on his back from squeaking in baby talk and wave excitedly at the sight of their giant mother high up in the sky.
Meanwhile Big Mac looked on with some slight amusement as he watched Mrs. Cake take it all in “Reminds me of mah first time when ah became that big,” He thought. Good times. Though, as he looked up at the moon in the sky, they should really get going and come back soon. Didn’t want to dilly dally in one place too long. Gently pushing Cloudsdale away from his eyes and off to the side, he walked over to Mrs. Cake who was still busy observing Ponyville from high above “Are ya ready ta go Mrs. Cake?” He asked.
Mrs. Cake jumped slightly, she had gotten so caught up in the moment that she had almost forgotten Big Mac was there or why she had been made so big to begin with “Oh right, of course. Lead the way Big Macintosh,” she said, taking once last look down at the diminutive form of the town “I wish I had a magnifying glass,” She thought, thinking about how cute it would be to try and find different parts of town at that size and maybe even give her family a ride on her back while huge. But all that could come later, right now they had business to attend to.
“Eeyup,” said Big Macintosh, walking around her and causing the town to quiver again from his footsteps “Right this way,”
Back down on the ground, Mr. Cake looked on with awe as the ground began to shake as Mrs. Cake stopped kneeling down and began to rise up to her full height, practically doing so in slow motion from his perspective. Her huge form rising higher, blotting out the moonlight as all of Ponyville fell under her shadow. From there he watched as the ground reverberated even more as Mrs. Cake’s mighty hoof tore out of the ground behind him as she stepped over the town as easily as one would step over a pebble on the floor. The ground and everything else shook wildly as he watched his gargantuan wife and an equally huge Big Macintosh begin to walk away, going for a stroll across the entire kingdom and all the way on the other side of the continent towards Van Hoover.
Slowly, Mr. Cake looked at his two kids who had gotten off his back and were crawling around on the ground “Did I ever tell both of you how lucky your dad was to marry a mare as wonderful as your mom?” he asked the twins.
The sound of excited babbling was all that answered him. Smiling to himself, Mr. Cake gently scooped up the twins and put them back on his back, looking out at the horizon where by now, the distant silhouette had disappeared over the horizon “Because, I just got a good reminder of how amazing your mother can be,”
Back with Big Macintosh and Mrs. Cake, the latter had seemed to have lost her initial nervousness, having gotten used to walking while big. Her strides became easier and didn’t feel as bulky and heavy as it did before “So, how often do you walk around Equestria while being this big?” Mrs. Cake asked Big Macintosh as she carefully stepped over a nearby city, internally marveling at how tiny and adorable it was now.
“Pretty often,” Big Mac replied as he stomped ahead, casually waving some more clouds out of his way “Ah don’t mind getting some more exercise whenever Ah get tha chance. Normally Ah used ta go out for a walk around tha farm on tha days Ah didn’t go to tha gym with Bulk Biceps. But now Ah like ta go for a walk around tha Kingdom. Sometimes I’ve made mahself big enough ta go fer a walk around ta world,” Big Macintosh chuckled “Mah hooves were big enough ta cover tha eternity of tha dragon lands when Ah did that,”
Mrs. Cake’s eyes almost bugged out when she heard that “Does nothing get crushed?” she asked with wonder “Surely somepony would have noticed that?”
“Eenope!” Big Macintosh said proudly “Mah magic completely negates that. Ya may have noticed we’ve haven’t left behind any hoofprints behind us while we’re walking,”
Mrs. Cake only just noticed that, no matter how hard she stepped on the ground, no crater formed “That’s incredible!” she said.
“Eeyup!” Big Mac replied “Though of course tha ponies will still feel tha shaking from when we’re walking. Ah guess that’s tha only tradeoff from having no footprints,”
Mrs. Cake giggled “Well, that sounds like a good deal to me! A mare could get used to this,” she said playfully as she practically jumped over a city in her path, her hind hoof landing heavily right next to it, causing the buildings to shake and sway from the impact. Mrs. Cake chuckled and playfully parted a few clouds with her hoof “It’s funny how far away the clouds always looked to me. Now I can just reach out and grab them,”
Big Mac smiled, amused and glad that she was having such a good time and was taking things rather well overall. And as the landscape began to flatten out, Big Mac saw they were approaching their destination “We’re here Mrs. Cake,” he said “We’ve reached Van Hoover,”
Mrs. Cake stomped over to where Big Macintosh was and let out a coo of adoration “Awwwwww, Van Hoover is so cute from up here! Oh, I just wish I could scoop up every pony down there and give them a big old mom hug!” she gushed over the idea of how tiny the ponies were to her now.
Big Mac rolled his eyes with a smile “So, where do ya normally buy tha sugar from?” he asked.
“Hmmmmmm,” Mrs. Cake hummed to herself, her eyes scanning the rooftops of the town before settling on a building to the far left “That one there. It’s owned by Mr. Sugarspice,” she said “I hope he doesn’t mind if we knock on his door and buy a pack this late,”
“Ah’m sure it’ll be fine. He’ll understand considering this is an emergency,” Big Macintosh reassured her as he activated his magic again, shrinking the two of them down back to normal size, directly next to the store Mrs. Cake had indicated to him. Together, he and Mrs. Cake walked up to the front door and knocked on it.
Cough cough “I’m coming, I’m coming,” the gravelly voice of a stallion answered from the other end. The sound of hoofsteps approaching the door was heard before the door swung open with a sharp squeak. Clearly the hinges needed to be oiled was all Big Macintosh thought as there in the doorway stood an elderly stallion with tan fur and a gray mane with round glasses and a pile of sugar with a spoon in it for a cutie mark
“What do you want? Do you know what time it is right now?” He grumbled as he adjusted his glasses on his snout. It was then he did a double take when he realized who was standing in front of him with an apologetic smile “Oh! Mrs. Cake? What brings you to Van Hoover this late at night?” he asked curiously.
“I’m so sorry to bother you this late Mr. Sugarspice, but is there any chance I can purchase some pepper step sugar from you? The last box didn’t come in and my husband and I need to get a rush order done for the princess soon,” Mrs. Cake explained.
“Of course you can! Oh, I’m so sorry to hear that the last delivery I sent you didn’t make it. The postal service has had a few screw ups the last few weeks with their deliveries,” Sugarspice said. He looked over at Big Macintosh “And who is the lad that came with you?” he asked
“This is Big Macintosh, he’s a friend. He offered to come with me tonight since he knew the area well,” Mrs. Cake said as Big Mac stepped forward and held out his hoof
“Howdy Mr. Sugarspice. It’s a pleasure ta meet ya,” he said.
“Pleasure’s all mine lad,” Sugarspice said with a smile “You really live up to your name too, hehehe. If I didn’t know better, I’d say you’re almost as tall as that Princess Cadance,”
“What can Ah say, I’ve always been a tall stallion,” Big Mac joked
Sugarspice laughed “You’re not wrong about that. Anyway, I’ll go get the sugar you need,” he said calling over his shoulder as he walked back into his house. He reemerged a few minutes later with the sugar in hoof “That’ll be two bits,” he said to Mrs. Cake “Again, I’m really sorry you had to come out all this way just to get the sugar,”
“Oh it’s no trouble at all dear!” Mrs. Cake replied as she handed over the bits and took the bag from him “The trip here was a pleasure, I practically walked here myself!”
Sugarspice chuckled “Well, then as I say, that’s no trip wasted if you enjoyed the journey,” he said “Will you be catching the train back? The next one doesn’t leave until the morning,”
“Oh we’ll be fine, there’s no need to worry,” Mrs. Cake said “But thank you again for the sugar,”
“Alright then, if you’re sure. Have a good night Mrs. Cake. It was good meeting you Mr. Macintosh,” Sugarspice said “I’ve got a bed I need to flop back down into,”
“Of course, good night Sugarspice,” Mrs. Cake said as she, Big Macintosh, and Sugarspice all waved each other goodbye. Once the door closed and the lights turned off, the two of them made their way over to the edge of town.
“Here Mrs. Cake, let me,” Big Mac said taking the bag of sugar from Mrs. Cake. In a flash, he had shrunk it down to the size of a pea.
“Oh thank you Big Mac, this makes it much easier to carry,” Mrs. Cake said happily as she dropped it into the pouch she was wearing on her sides that carried her bits.
“Eeyup. Are ya ready ta head back?” He asked.
“Oh yes, I’m ready when you are!” Mrs. Cake replied, all of her previous nervousness gone. In fact, she looked positively giddy with excitement “I can see why you like it so much Big Mac. I felt so energized and strong when we were up there!”
“Ah’d bet. Ah think that was just tha effect of tha titan magic,” said Big Mac. Not that he was complaining though.
Big Mac’s eyes glowed and in no time at all, he and Mrs. Cake were once more at the top of the world, literally. Mrs. Cake beamed as she happily trotted across the miniaturized Equestria, entire fields and towns disappeared under her hooves as she stepped down, only to lift back up with absolutely no scratch on them “I think I know the way back. I’ll lead the way!” Mrs. Cake said excitedly as she walked over a few mountaintops on her way back to Ponyville, with Big Macintosh following behind her.
The trip back took considerably less time now that Mrs. Cake had gotten used to walking around Titan sized and her enthusiasm fueling her as she all but pranced back home, and in no time at all, they had made it back to Ponyville.
“I must say Big Mac, I was pretty nervous about the whole Titan thing going on at first, but now that I’ve gotten to experience it first hoof, I must say I thoroughly had fun,” Mrs. Cake said as Big Mac shrunk them both back to normal size and simultaneously grew the sugar back to it’s normal size.
“Ah’m glad you enjoyed tha trip Mrs. Cake. Ah’m also glad ta hear you were able ta get tha sugar ya need ta make tha princesses cake,” Big Macintosh replied
As Mrs. Cake opened the door, revealing Mr. Cake on the other side and the twins presumably up in their cribs sleeping, she paused and turned back around “I was wondering, do you think at some point me and my husband can join you on one of your nightly walks? That way we can both get the full titan experience?” Mrs. Cake asked, much to the surprise of both Mr. Cake and Big Macintosh.
But Big Mac only smiled “Sure ya can. It’d be nice ta have somepony else ta hang out with during tha night,” he said.
“Well, then it sounds like a plan!” Mrs. Cake said excitedly, much to the confusion of her husband “We’ll see you soon Big Mac!” Mrs. Cake waved as she escorted Mr. Cake back inside, the poor stallion still sputtering his questions.
“Good night Mr and Mrs. Cake,” Big Macintosh chuckled as he set off down the road, heading back to Sweet Apple Acres, happy that he was able to help the couple, and now, share his secret with. But now the question remind, will they be the last ones he tells?
