Chapters The silhouette of the Sun Princess illuminated by the soft glow of the full moon was distinct as she stood on the balcony of Canterlot's magnificent castle. Her translucent mane dipped in vibrant colors and swayed gently in the cool, comforting breeze of the night wind. Her large, glowing amethyst eyes gazed out over the wide green plains and structures that housed the inhabitants of Equestria entrusted to her protection.
This reflection made Celestia blink. For anyone else, this responsibility would be overwhelming: having an entire kingdom on their shoulders, where every choice could impact the lives of countless innocents. Yes, it was a tremendous pressure, but Celestia was already used to it and was fully aware that she could not fail, as so many depended on her.
'Even if it wasn't possible to save everyone...' The bitter thought crossed Celestia's exhausted mind as she raised her sad eyes to gaze upon her younger sister's bright moon, floating majestically in the dark skies filled with countless twinkling stars.
Today marked exactly three years since his adopted son, the little purple dragon named Spike Sparkle, had left. With each passing year, Celestia found it difficult to believe everything that had happened. One moment she was dealing with the daunting demands of paperwork, the next comforting her charge as she fought to stay strong. The devastating news given by her sister shook her deeply and the pain never went away. Over time it may have become easier to deal with, but the pain persisted.
An icy wind swept Celestia making her shiver. "How cold..." The princess murmured, taking one last look at the magnificent view of Equestria before retiring to her royal chambers.
However, if she had remained on the balcony for a few moments longer, she might have heard a mysterious voice that overcame the whisper of the wind saying: "Wait." But the silence of the night settled in again, allowing only the melodious sound of crickets and cicadas chirping as the unnatural storm of red clouds coming from the horizon quickly approached, announcing its beginning.
Upon entering her royal chambers Celestia was greeted by the comforting warmth of the fire crackling in the fireplace. Feeling tired, she walked to her padded throne and settled down with grace, allowing herself to be enveloped by the tranquility of the space. Away from the public eye and expectations of the kingdom, she could finally let the melancholy that haunted her shine through.
As she stood there remembering the moments shared with Spike, a sad smile formed on his lips. She remembered the days when he brought contagious joy to the castle, filling every room with his antics and laughter. It was hard to believe that it had been three long years since he left.
Celestia closed her eyes allowing herself to relive the affectionate moments that nourished her mind and heart. She remembered how rewarding it was to watch Spike grow and see him develop into a brave and intelligent young man. But above all, he had a generous heart, always willing to help others.
However, a sense of guilt persisted in Celestia. She wondered if she could have prevented the loss of Spike if she had taken different steps or been more attentive. These thoughts tormented her, because, despite all her wisdom and power, she felt powerless in the face of the tragedy that had occurred.
Tears soon began to flow from the princess's eyes, despite her efforts to contain them. She allowed herself to cry, letting the pain flow and purify her soul. It was a moment of vulnerability, a necessary pause to allow her emotions to be expressed.
As the tears dried Celestia felt a warm calm envelop her. She knew she couldn't go back and change the past but she also realized that Spike's love and spirit lived on in her heart and in the memories of all those who knew him.
With renewed determination, Celestia fixed her eyes on the stars that now dotted the night sky beyond her bedroom windows. She swore to herself to honor Spike's memory by dedicating herself even more to protecting and guiding Equestria. Even if she couldn't save everyone she would do her best to make the kingdom a better place by fighting for justice and peace.
And so reenergized by her purpose the Sun Princess rose from her throne and walked towards the window observing the bright moon in the sky. She knew that despite the longing and sadness, life went on, and she was determined to be a beacon of hope in dark times.
With one last look at the nightscape, Celestia smiled slightly. She knew that wherever Spike was he would be proud of her. And with this certainty, she moved forward to face new days with courage, wisdom, and the eternal love that would always remain in her heart.
The clicking sounds of Celestia's footsteps across the reflective marble floor echoed off the shadowed walls of the long hallways. She was heading towards the spacious royal kitchen of the castle of the princesses of the Sun and Night, with a delicately guarded little secret the seven keys that even her sister was unaware of. Celestia had a habit of going out in the early hours of the morning at exactly 2:30 a.m. to enjoy a special snack, which consisted of a tasty peanut butter sandwich.
His steps were confident, the result of decades of walking the same corridors over and over again, memorizing each curve and each direction to be followed. But something felt different that night. She turned right and continued down the long hallway, which took her to a brown wooden door, which faced a flight of stairs, which led directly to the kitchen.
However, Celestia immediately noticed something strange. She froze, an unknown feeling taking over her body. The door creaked with an agonizing sound, creating a tense atmosphere that contrasted with the usual tranquility of the castle.
Upon entering the dark corridor, Celestia was faced with an atmosphere full of mystery. The shadows danced around, looking more agitated than usual. The silence that was once a friend turned into a dark ally. Celestia's heart began to beat faster as she walked down the dimly lit path.
Upstairs, a gentle breeze made the curtains flutter, highlighting the presence of an inexplicable energy. Celestia felt a bad presence but couldn't understand where it came from. She forced herself to continue, driven by the courage that was always inherent in her.
A few meters in front of Celestia, the door began to move slowly, about to close completely before colliding violently at the end of its path. A crash echoed through the long dark corridor, plunging it into deafening silence. The only source of light was the window on the right, which allowed the soft glow of the moon to enter and spread throughout the room.
Celestia remained there, frozen in the middle of the corridor. Thoughts ran wild through her head, but only one stood out.
"Luna?"
Silence.
Soon after, the door slowly opened.
Celestia pursed her lips. She didn't like this at all.
Celestia pursed her lips once again, trying to contain the growing irritation that was beginning to settle inside her. The silence that hovered around the place was disturbing, making her imagination run wild and raising frightening possibilities.
"Luna?" Celestia called again now with a more worried tone in her voice. No sign of response.
It was difficult for Celestia to discern whether this situation was a mere trick on her sister's part or whether something truly sinister was happening. She decided to face the uncertainty head-on and moved towards the half-open door.
"I like challenges," Celestia said to herself. Her determination beginning to overcome the fear that paralyzed her. She was the ruler of Equestria, she couldn't let herself be shaken by simple silly games.
With slow steps Celestia approached the wooden door, her heart beating faster with each step. Her thoughts fluctuated between the possibility of finding her debauched sister or a dark emptiness on the other side.
As she got closer, Celestia noticed the curtains gently dancing to the rhythm of the wind blowing through the window. The sound of the trees swaying outside echoed inside the room, further increasing the confusion in his mind.
"I think I'm going crazy..." Celestia muttered to herself questioning her perceptions.
Celestia was stunned to see a flash on her right side interrupting her thoughts. She quickly turned around and was stunned by what she witnessed in front of her.
"What is that?!" Her mouth opened in disbelief at the sight that presented itself.
Celestia felt fear seep into her being as she watched the red clouds moving quickly across the sky. A feeling of apprehension washed over her as a chilling cold wind swept through the hallway as if trying to penetrate her bones.
Without hesitation, Celestia approached the window next to the door looking for answers about what could be happening. As her eyes fixed on the horizon she saw sinister figures dancing in the red clouds like terrifying shadows.
A chill ran down his spine as he recognized the evil presence emanating from those shadows. Instinctively, Celestia knew that this was not just a natural phenomenon.
Celestia felt a wave of growing anxiety take over her being. She knew something sinister was happening, something that defied all natural laws. With cautious steps she approached the half-open door, determined to discover the source of this disturbance.
As she approached, Celestia could feel a dark energy emanating from within the room. Her eyes fixed on the unexpected scene unfolding before her. The once familiar environment had transformed into a chaotic scene.
All the furniture in the royal kitchen was overturned and destroyed, scattered across the floor like evidence of a recent battle. The large table where the Solar sisters used to share meals in harmony was split in half as if it had been struck by an overwhelming force.
Celestia felt her heart quicken as her eyes scanned the room for answers. But the answer came in the form of a dark, menacing figure that materialized before her.
It was a mysterious figure wrapped in a sinister cloak. Its crimson-red eyes glowed with fiery malice revealing a masked figure that emanated a heavy aura. It was the presence of an evil entity that now dominated the heart of the castle.
Celestia felt overcome with a mixture of fear and courage. She knew that she needed to confront that entity and protect her kingdom and her sister. Her solar powers ignited within her as her resolve solidified.
"Who are you and what do you want?" Celestia asked directly while his horn began to shine brightly, emanating an aura of authority and power.
The mysterious bipedal figure of imposing and hooded stature stared at Celestia with its dark eyes through the empty dark holes of its circular-shaped silver iron mask, preventing her from seeing her face. An enigmatic silence hung in the air leaving her intrigued and eager for answers.
Restless Celestia decided to break the silence. In a firm tone, she ordered, "Answer me! What do you want?!" Her words echoed as she awaited a reaction from the hooded figure.
The masked man finally spoke, "Gracious Sun Princess, there are so many things I long for..." His deep and calm voice echoed in a malicious tone. "But tonight there is only one thing I wish for." His scarlet eyes fixed on the top of the princess's head. "Precisely there." He pointed with his gloved claw toward the majestic horn she sported.
A feeling of apprehension coursed through Celestia's body as she faced this unknown enemy. She knew that protecting her kingdom was her responsibility but she also felt afraid of the threat he posed with his intimidating presence.
"Why are you interested in my horn?!" Celestia growled furiously.
The individual with the mask remained silent, appearing to be deep in thought. "Your horn possesses a unique energy, a source of power that can be harnessed for powerful purposes. It will be a valuable resource in achieving my ambitions."
Celestia widened her eyes, perplexed by the masked man's response. His indifferent tone of voice and relaxed posture made it clear that he had no intention of explaining his true plans. A mixture of anger and curiosity washed over Celestia as she tried to decipher the masked stranger's dark intentions.
"I will not allow you to use my horn for nefarious purposes." Celestia retorted, her voice full of determination. "I will fight to protect it and ensure it is used for good not to satisfy your thirst for power."
The masked man remained silent before slowly approaching Celestia, staring at her with his cold, piercing eyes behind the iron mask that covered his entire face, leaving only his pair of crimson-red eyes visible. "You have no idea the true power that horn possesses..." He whispered cryptically. "If you oppose me there will be no mercy."
Celestia was not intimidated. She knew she needed to stop the masked man from getting his hands on her horn, no matter how dangerous and unpredictable he seemed. She prepared herself for the battle that lay ahead, ready to protect what was so important to her.
"Then come with everything you've got, because I'm not letting you take my horn!" Celestia growled.
The masked figure remained completely silent, motionless in the depths of the shadows.
"Very well Sun Princess. Let's see if you can maintain that conviction when faced with true darkness." He said, his tone letting she know he was serious and wasn't messing around.
Celestia cast a determined look toward the masked man, knowing that she could not allow evil to prevail. She focused her solar energy letting it flow from her unicorn form and manifest in an explosion of golden light around her.
With wings outstretched and an aura of confidence pulsing around her Celestia dove into a confrontation with her enemy. Rays of solar energy illuminated the room as she delivered powerful blows with her magic, trying to weaken the enemy and protect her kingdom.
The battle spread throughout the castle creating waves of destruction around it. Furniture and objects flew through the air while the walls shook with the intensity of the confrontation.
Despite the obstacles that appeared in her path, Celestia did not waver. She dueled with courage and strategy, making the most of her solar powers to launch precise attacks against her enemy.
In response to Celestia's attacks, the masked man demonstrated incredible agility, managing to dodge with ease. His eyes followed the movements of the Sun Princess as if they were under the effect of slow motion. It was clear he was enjoying the challenge she posed.
However, Celestia would not give up so easily. Her eyes shone with determination to protect her kingdom and her sister and she channeled that determination into every blow she dealt against the entity.
Continuing his relentless dodge, the masked man provocatively questioned, "Is that all you have? I expected more." An angry Celestia let out a growl in response.
Deciding to change tactics Celestia stopped her attack and instead flew towards the center of the kitchen. With her aura shining brightly she concentrated all her energy into her horn forming a sphere of heat that began to grow rapidly.
The masked man's eyes widened at the power Celestia was about to unleash.
Celestia smiled triumphantly when she saw the surprised expression on the masked man's face. She threw the sphere of heat toward her with frightening precision.
The masked man quickly regained his composure and jumped to the side, narrowly dodging the fiery attack. He rolled on the ground and stood up showing signs of smoke coming from his faded clothes.
"You're smarter than you look." He said, his eyes shining behind his mask. "But that was your only card?"
Celestia didn't respond. Instead, she focused her energy again this time creating a lightning storm in her presence. Lightning danced around her, the electrifying power growing rapidly.
The masked man realized he couldn't escape this time. He raised his guard ready for the imminent impact. The rays shot towards him hitting him with undeniable force. He was thrown backward, colliding with kitchen furniture.
Breathing hard, Celestia calmly descended to the ground, her expression determined. She then cautiously approached the hooded figure. She knew that a single oversight could mean her defeat.
"You'll never get what you want." She declared firmly. "My kingdom will remain strong and the light will prevail."
Determined, she lit her horn, ready to end this once and for all.
However, to her surprise, the masked man began to laugh uncontrollably, as if he knew something that she didn't.
"What is so funny?" Celestia narrowed her eyes towards the figure lying on the ground.
After a brief moment of laughter, the masked man finally resumed his serious posture and said with evident sarcasm: "Did you believe it would be that simple?" In a dramatic gesture, the masked man dissolved into dark particles and disappeared completely, leaving the question in the air.
A look of surprise took over Celestia's face as the masked man disappeared before her eyes. She looked around for any sign of her presence but nothing was left but the floating dust.
Confused and frustrated she raised her horn ready to summon her powers and discover the origin of that threat. However before she could gather her energy a familiar voice echoed around her.
"You think you can defeat me with your games of light?" A mocking voice echoed through the air.
Celestia stared in disbelief at the figure that emerged from the shadows. It was the masked man. His eyes glowed with a dark impetus.
"Your kingdom of light is doomed, Celestia." He said seriously. "You underestimated the strength of my power."
Determination filled Celestia as she watched her enemy approach. She wouldn't allow him to destroy everything she had worked so hard for. His people, his kingdom, everything was at stake.
"But," the masked man continued, "I will show you the true power of shadows." That was exactly what the masked man uttered before the sclerae of his eyes acquired an intense green glow followed by a purple mist appearing from the edges of the eye sockets behind the mask.
Celestia was shocked to see those eyes. Her own eyes widened almost involuntarily. She could hardly believe what she was seeing before her. The words left her lips shakily: "Is that y-you?"
However, the masked man did not answer Celestia's question. Instead, a mischievous smile formed on his lips hidden behind the mask. He raised his right hand and in a quick gesture, the purple mist began to spread through the air, enveloping the entire surrounding environment.
Celestia felt a shiver run down her spine as she watched that dark transformation happen before her eyes. She knew she was about to face something far beyond her abilities.
"You may be powerful Celestia, but I am the embodiment of fear and darkness." The masked man said calmly. "You will see that there is no light capable of illuminating the darkness that lives within me."
Celestia tried to gather her courage but fear began to eat away at her resolve. How was he alive?! It was impossible!
However, despite all the doubts and uncertainties, she could not give up knowing that the protection of her people depended on her.
"You may be the lord of shadows, King Sombra, but I am the Sun Princess and I will do everything in my power to protect Equestria," Celestia said, raising her wings with determination.
The masked man just laughed, a cold, sinister sound that echoed off the walls. "Call me Yugen."
Celestia frowned at the name but didn't look away from the masked man now known as Yugen. She was determined to face this threat no matter how powerful he was.
Yugen raised his dark hand and a flurry of shadows rushed towards Celestia. She reacted quickly by forming a glowing energy shield to block the attack. The shadows collided with the barrier but were unable to penetrate it.
"Your power is impressive, but it won't be enough to stop me!" Celestia declared, gathering solar energy into her mane and the tips of her wings.
She released a blast of solar energy with her horn, sending golden beams toward Yugen. The bursts of light enveloped the masked man, dispelling some of his darkness momentarily. However, he soon recovered and counterattacked with the shadow around him absorbing the light and creating a wave of intense darkness.
The battle raged with frightening intensity as Celestia used her solar magic and Yugen skillfully manipulated the shadows. Each of the attacks was powerful and impactful, causing havoc in the place where they fought.
Celestia realized that her physical strength would not be enough to beat Yugen. She needed a strategy. With her intelligence and experience, she began to use quick evasive movements taking advantage of her speed and agility. She dodged shadows and launched precise attacks whenever she had an opportunity.
As the fight unfolded Celestia realized that there was a weakness in Yugen's shadows. He depended on them to strengthen himself so she decided to attack that weakness. Concentrating on her solar power she created a sphere of glowing energy in her horn and launched it towards Yugen's shadows.
The shadows began to dissipate, leaving Yugen momentarily vulnerable. Celestia took advantage of the opportunity and shot a beam of sunlight directly at the masked man, but he dodged it at the last second.
"And that?" Yugen questioned, "I thought you said you would defeat me?"
Celestia looked at the masked man before a plan clicked in her mind.
With a confident smile, Celestia responded to the masked man's challenge: "Don't underestimate me!" She raised her wings, concentrating radiant energy around her.
Before Yugen could react Celestia began to channel her solar energy intensely into her horn. Sunbeams formed around her, creating a dazzling aura that illuminated the entire battle area. The light was so bright that it became almost impossible for Yugen to see.
As Yugen struggled to adapt to the new situation, Celestia launched a surprise attack. She fired a series of blades of sunlight, each one slicing through the air at high speed towards Yugen. The attacks were fast and precise, making it difficult for the masked man to dodge.
Determined not to be defeated, Yugen used his dark abilities to disappear from the scene. As it disappeared into dark particles, the energy sphere shot through the space it previously occupied and collided with the castle wall in a thunderous impact, causing a huge hole of destruction.
Yugen just looked disinterestedly at the destruction that had been caused.
"Want some advice? Whenever you put together a special attack, make sure you get it right." He scoffed, moving his gaze to where the alicorn was before his eyes widened when he no longer saw her there.
"Want another piece of advice?" Before he could react a voice came from behind his back making him turn around quickly. To his surprise, his left eye was hit squarely by a sunbeam, making him scream in pain.
"Never turn your back on your opponent." The voice said in an ironic tone.
As pain throbbed in his injured, bleeding eye, the masked man remained calm and tried to locate the source of the attack. There she was, the alicorn hovering majestically in the air. Her wings shone with a heavenly splendor.
"You underestimated my determination," she said in a firm and resolute voice. "No matter how powerful your dark abilities are, they cannot compare to the strength of light."
The masked man clenched his teeth before a small smile graced his lips and he chuckled. "Princess Celestia, it was you who underestimated me." He said darkly. "And as a bonus, you even gave me a little gift." He added confusing Celestia.
"So hitting your eye was a gift?" Celestia asked ironically.
The masked man laughed. "You have no idea..." He said enigmatically. His voice revealed a mix of relief and satisfaction. The pulsing pain in his eye turned into a strange sensation almost as if a new energy was manifesting within him.
His sharp vision settled back on the alicorn as his gaze intensified. "Before I leave, I want to give you a warning." He murmured with disturbing calm.
"If I were you, I wouldn't get too attached to this reality, because soon it will cease to exist." Said the masked man before disappearing.
The mysterious character's words echoed in the alicorn's mind, leaving her perplexed and full of doubts. What did he mean by that? Was it just an empty threat or was there some truth in his words?
After a few minutes of sitting on the floor with the kitchen debris scattered around her, Celestia felt lost. The masked man's enigmatic words echoed in her mind, filling her with growing uneasiness. She knew she couldn't ignore that warning no matter how disturbing it was.
With a mix of frustration and determination, Celestia decided to act. She felt the urgency to thoroughly investigate the true identity of that masked stranger calling himself "Yugen". There was a strong suspicion that he was the feared King Sombra, and this could not be ignored. Furthermore, Celestia was determined to unravel the meaning behind the cryptic words he uttered. She needed to discover the warning being conveyed.
Soon his sister arrived accompanied by the royal guards, breaking the flow of his thoughts and catching his attention.
Amidst the chaos and destruction around Luna looked at her sister with concern and asked in a panicked tone, "Are you okay sister?!"
Celestia shook her head, trying to clear away the worries that were taking over her mind. She forced a comforting smile at Luna and replied,
"I'm fine, Luna. Just a little shaken by recent events. But we need to talk."
The royal guards surrounded the sisters in a protective circle, alert for any imminent threat. Celestia stood up looking at the destruction around her and found the courage to share her concerns.
"An unknown person was here, Luna. A masked man who came after my horn, spoke cryptic and disturbing words about the future of Equestria. He said something about imminent danger but didn't give many details."
Luna frowned, visibly worried about the news. "A danger? What kind of danger Celestia? We need to take immediate action."
Celestia nodded feeling the weight of responsibilities on her shoulders. "Yes, Luna. We must act quickly and gather our wise guards and trusted allies. We must investigate this threat and ensure the safety of Equestria."
The royal guards showed their determination ready to carry out his orders. Celestia gave them a firm look before turning back to her sister.
"Luna we will lead the search for answers. We need to find out who this masked man is and why he came to us. I trust in our unity and wisdom to overcome any challenge Equestria may face."
Luna nodded, sharing the same determination as her sister.
As the dust from the rubble settled, Celestia made a decision. She would gather all the princes and princesses from her lands in Ponyville and seek answers. The threat had to be taken seriously and together they could discover what was behind that warning and protect the kingdom from it.
With renewed determination, Celestia instructed the royal guards to call an emergency meeting in Ponyville. She knew that every pony there had something to contribute and that together they could unlock the secrets behind these enigmatic words.
Morning came as they prepared to leave. Celestia couldn't help but wonder what the truth was behind that disturbing warning. Was it just an empty threat meant to sow fear, or was there an unknown force plotting something terrible against Equestria?
Mystery hung in the air as Celestia and Luna headed to Ponyville ready to face this challenge together. The fate of the kingdom was at stake and they were determined to uncover the truth and protect their beloved home.
THE MASKED
Chapter 1 - Sea of Anguish
THE MASKED
CHAPTER • 1
~~Sea of Anguish~~
"WHY DIDN'T YOU SAVE ME?!"
The first rays of the sun invaded Twilight's room, painting the walls a faint golden hue. Her eyes slowly opened, revealing a mixture of sleep and sadness in her gaze. For a brief moment, she forgot about her current reality, feeling like she woke up in a world where Spike would still be by her side.
However, the harsh reality came as a blow to his heart. Three long years ago, Spike was gone, leaving Twilight with the pain of loss and a deep sense of emptiness in her life. The night nightmare, which had painfully reminded her of the tragic event, still echoed in her mind.
With tears in her eyes, Twilight sank further into her bed, feeling the crushing weight of loneliness on her shoulders. Even in this new dawn, in which the flower petals bloomed in vivid colors, everything seemed gray and lifeless.
She squeezed her eyes shut, fighting the grief that threatened to consume her. The sound of silence filled the room, his whispers echoing like a constant reminder of her absence. There was no lively laughter or Spike's comforting presence, just the emptiness of his old home.
As Twilight stood up with slow, sad movements, she felt a mixture of sadness and anger. Why had fate taken Spike so soon? Why couldn't she save him? These questions echoed painfully in her mind, with no answers that could ease her pain.
Facing the mirror, she was met with her sad gaze. The marks of suffering were etched on her face and in her tired eyes, silent witnesses of every night she had woken up alone and saddened since Spike's departure.
With a heavy sigh, Twilight wiped away the stubborn tears that insisted on streaming down her face. She knew she couldn't let herself succumb to eternal sadness, even if every lonely awakening reminded her of missing her beloved friend.
As she went about her daily routine, the pain of loss followed her like a constant shadow, hidden in the recesses of her soul. The world around her felt strangely empty, without Spike's presence to share her joys and challenges.
And so, Twilight tried to find a way to honor Spike's memory while keeping the love and friendship they shared alive. With each dawn, she woke up to face a new day, even if it was permeated with the sadness of her devastating loss.
Twilight sat at the table, a sad and lonely breakfast in front of her. The aroma of fresh coffee wafted through the air, filling the space with a familiar scent that, at that moment, seemed bitter. She stared at the empty cup in front of her, lost in her thoughts.
The memories of Spike's death were still vivid in his mind. The day he left, a part of her broke irreparably. She knew that nothing would be the same, no shared breakfast or conversation could bring back her loyal friend.
As she looked out the window, Twilight watched the sun gradually disappearing behind heavy gray clouds. The sky, now tinged with melancholy tones, perfectly echoed the dark nature of her soul. It was as if the universe, with its implicit symbolism, was aware of the intensity of her sadness, accompanying her in every shade of the scenery around her.
Tears once again began to stream down Twilight's face, in silent tribute to her lost friend. She felt helpless in the face of the immensity of the loss, of Spike's irreparable absence in her life. "How I wish I could see you again, even if it was just for a moment..." She murmured to herself, her voice breaking.
The silence echoed through the castle, heavy and oppressive. She missed the sound of Spike's voice, the funny comments, the unconditional support he provided her. Every drop of coffee she sipped seemed to make the emptiness inside her grow even more.
Twilight closed her eyes for a moment, taking deep breaths to stop herself from crying. She knew she needed to move on, that life went on even after loss, but she also knew that she would never be the same.
With a wistful sigh, she rose from the table, leaving her breakfast untouched. There was no appetite, no desire to continue the meal. The sadness in her heart was more powerful than any physical sensation.
As he walked towards the castle doors, she glanced at the lonely cup one last time. It was a constant reminder of her premature goodbye to Spike, a painful symbol of her pain and loneliness.
With a heavy heart, Twilight walked through the streets of Ponyville, her gaze fixed and determined. The cobblestone floor beneath her hooves echoed softly with each step she took, adding a sense of solemnity to the air.
As she approached the cemetery, Twilight felt a mixture of anxiety and sadness. Her heart felt heavy in her chest, each beat seemed to echo like a silent echo of longing for Spike. She had always been attached to her faithful assistant, and the loss was still fresh in her mind, even though it had been three long years.
The autumn wind gently played with her purple mane, as if trying to caress her worries. Dry leaves danced through the air in a calm symphony, creating a soothing soundtrack for their lonely path.
As she walked, Twilight passed familiar buildings and friendly shops. Windows decorated with bright, festive decals showed the joy of the Ponyville community, but their dark feelings cast a shadow over it. The locals, however, respected her need for solitude as they watched her pass by, avoiding interrupting her deep thoughts.
The distant sound of other ponies' hooves, combined with the distant murmur of voices and laughter, filled the air, reminding Twilight that life continued beyond her pain. It was a reminder that even in times of deep sadness, the community always found strength and comfort in each other.
As Twilight approached the cemetery, she noticed how the environment seemed to change. The air took on a solemn silence, broken only by the whispering breeze. The tombstones lined up like silent guardians, with names and dates engraved on them, testified to stories of past lives and honored the memory of loved ones.
And there, in the middle of this sanctuary of tranquility and melancholy, was Spike's grave. A simple tombstone, marked with his name, was a painful reminder of his beloved companion's departure. Twilight arrived and knelt in front of him, the fresh flowers she had in her mane now lying gently beside her.
She placed her paw on the cold marble of the tombstone, reading the engraved words with teary eyes.
"Spike Sparkle,
# 1 Assistant."
The memory of shared moments, mischief, and true friendship filled his heart. A solitary tear slid down her face as she let herself be overcome by melancholy.
"I'm sorry, Spike," she whispered, her voice breaking, her tears wetting the soft grass. "I miss you so much. I couldn't save you... I failed..."
The words dissipated into the air, mixing with the gentle morning breeze. Twilight felt a sharp pain in her chest as she recalled the times when she felt helpless, unable to protect those she loved. She felt a painful pang of guilt for not being able to save her friend, a wound that didn't seem to heal.
With her paws outstretched, Twilight touched the cold tombstone, as if seeking to feel Spike's presence once again. But all that remained were only the vivid memories of their friendship, which now echoed in his mind and heart.
With sadness weighing on her shoulders, Twilight remained there, lost in her thoughts and feelings. Time seemed suspended, and only the gray clouds above bore witness to the deep pain the unicorn carried with her.
As the tears continued to stream down Twilight's face, a feeling of disappointment and guilt enveloped her more and more. And, in this whirlwind of emotions, a painful memory echoed in his mind, only serving to intensify the weight he carried with him. After casting one last mournful glance at her beloved assistant's tombstone, Twilight rose with a mournful sigh and, full of remorse, headed determinedly to the Ponyville hospital. There, she intended to visit a person she felt she had failed terribly.
Each step taken towards the hospital seemed to carry with it the burden of mistakes made and expectations not met. Guilt, like an oppressive burden, made his heart sink deeper into a pit of sadness and regret. However, Twilight knew that she needed to overcome these feelings and face her past failures head-on in search of redemption.
While Ember was in her kingdom, she received a special invitation in her clutches. The invitation was a precious sealed invitation, embossed with the Ponyville crest. Curious, she opened the envelope and read the invitation carefully.
Ember: "Hmm, an invitation from Ponyville? That's interesting. Let's see what it says here..."
Ember was surprised to find that the invitation invited her to an urgent meeting at the Castle of Magic in Ponyville. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss an imminent threat that was looming over Equestria. The letter mentioned the importance of her presence as a Dragon leader and her valuable knowledge in addressing this crucial situation.
Ember: "An imminent threat? It seems to be something serious. They need my help."
Feeling the responsibility that fell on her shoulders, Ember understood that she could not ignore the appeal of the invitation. She knew that the safety of her kingdom and all kingdoms was at stake. Wasting no time, Ember set off towards Ponyville, eager to share her wisdom and experience with the other gathered leaders.
"Dear Princess Cadence,
I hope this letter finds you with all the light and joy that your governance of the Crystal Empire radiates. I come to write to you with a matter of extreme importance and urgency that requires your presence and wisdom at the Castle of Magic, in Ponyville.
I was informed this morning about an imminent threat looming over Equestria. This threat has the potential to shake the harmony and security of our beloved kingdom. As the Princess of Love and leader of the Crystal Empire, your insight and intuition are invaluable in resolving this issue.

Twilight, feeling a terrible weight on her conscience, walked with hesitant steps down the hospital corridor. She was on her way to visit Rarity, one of Ponyville's dearest friends, but also someone she had failed. It had been two years since that tragic incident and the lightning she conjured accidentally struck Rarity in the chest. Since then, Rarity has been trapped in a deep coma.
Twilight's heart sank as she approached Rarity's room. The space around her seemed permeated with sadness and remorse, affecting her deeply. She knew she was the direct cause of that situation and it weighed on her soul.
Upon reaching the room, Twilight hesitated at the entrance, feeling the lump in her throat tighten even more. She knew she couldn't let the guilt overwhelm her, but it was a difficult challenge to overcome. With a deep breath, she summoned the courage to approach Rarity's bedside.
Upon entering the room, Twilight came across Rarity's serene face, motionless and fragile on the white pillow. She looked like a porcelain doll, so delicate and vulnerable. Rarity's every breath was a constant reminder of the damage Twilight had caused.
Soft sunlight filtered through the curtains, bathing the room in pale, tranquil tones. The atmosphere was filled with silence and a touch of resignation. The medical monitors provided a constant soundtrack, reminding Twilight of the fragility of life. Roses and "Get well soon" notes adorned the bed beside her.
With cautious movements, Twilight approached Rarity's bed. She reached out her trembling paw and gently stroked her friend's face. Tears began to flood her eyes as she apologized in a shaky whisper.
"Rarity, I'm so sorry... I never meant to hurt you. It was a terrible accident and I carry the guilt every day. I know my apology can't change anything, but I want you to know that I'm so, deeply sorry. Please, forgive me."
The room remained silent, with no response from Rarity. Her peaceful presence, trapped in a world of unfulfilled dreams, was a painful reminder of the devastation Twilight had caused. She let out a choked sob, feeling the pain of remorse tighten her heart even more.
Staying by Rarity's side for a few more moments, Twilight prayed silently, asking for a miracle, for a way to bring her friend back. She promised herself that she would do everything in her power to help Rarity recover, even if it meant confronting her fears and failures.
As she mourned in silence, the sudden thought of the important meeting scheduled for that day hit her like a crushing weight.
"Oh, heavens..." Twilight muttered in frustration, "I completely forgot."
With one last sad look at Rarity, Twilight left the hospital room. Guilt consumed her, but she was always determined to turn her guilt into action. She knew she needed to do everything in her power to repair the damage she caused and find a way to bring her friend back to life.
She knew she couldn't change the past, but she would look for solutions to build a better future for Rarity and herself.
As Twilight left, she prayed that true friendship and the strength of love would prevail, bringing healing and hope to Rarity's heart, and bringing peace and forgiveness to her own tormented heart.
THE MASKED
CHAPTER • 2
~~Red Alert~~
A heavy atmosphere enveloped the city of Ponyville as noon approached. The cloudy sky was relentless in its mission to hide the sun's rays from Celestia, creating a gloomy and oppressive atmosphere.
Inside the imposing Council Chamber of the Castle of Friendship, the tension was palpable. Celestia, Luna, Cadence, Ember, Thorax, and Twilight Sparkle were gathered around an elaborate table, adorned with intricate details, where discussions about crucial matters took place and decisions of utmost importance were made. It was a place full of meaning, full of history, and destined to house crucial moments in the destiny of Ponyville.
The serious, concerned look in Celestia's eyes revealed that something truly disturbing had happened. The tense expression on her face conveyed the gravity of the situation, making everyone present aware that they were facing a considerable challenge. The leader's usual calmness was momentarily shaken, indicating how urgent and complex the issue at hand was. The other members of the council also shared this concern, their faces reflecting the seriousness of the moment.
In this dark and tense scenario, uncertainty hung in the air, as the group of leaders anxiously waited for answers and planned the next steps to be taken to face the impending adversity.
As tension persisted in the Council Room of Friendship Castle in Ponyville, Celestia decided to share the cause of her worried expression. In a calm but urgent voice, she began to narrate the events of the previous night.
"Last night, I suffered a surprise attack perpetrated by a hooded masked man. Preliminary reports we have received raise concerns that this individual may be the feared King Sombra, who we all believed to have been defeated and stripped of his power long ago. In a manner Suddenly and menacingly, he emerged from the shadows, displaying a sinister appearance and an evident desire to steal my horn, seeking to use its power for evil purposes."
As Celestia's words filled the air, the faces of those present reflected surprise and concern. They all knew very well the threat that King Sombra posed in the past and understood the gravity of this possible resurgence.
Celestia continued her voice firm but revealing a hint of fear, "Despite your efforts, I was able to defend myself and escape unharmed. However, your presence and your attempt to reach me are reason enough for us to be on high alert. The King Sombra may have been reincarnated and is seeking revenge or seeking to regain the power he lost."
"But how is that possible?" Cadence was the first to speak after the revelation. "Shouldn't he be dead? We defeated him! I with Spike's help-" Cadence immediately fell silent, turning pale, as the others shared their concerns.
Everyone looked at Twilight's haggard face.
"Twilight, I'm sorry..." Cadence began, before being interrupted by Twilight.
"Don't worry, Cadence, it's okay." Twilight quickly reassured her. The determination in her eyes was evident. "We must discover how King Sombra managed to return and find a way to stop him again. Together, we will face this challenge and protect our kingdom."
The Council room was silent for a moment as everyone absorbed Twilight's words. The confidence and leadership she demonstrated inspired others to unite around a common goal: defeating King Sombra once again.
"Well, Princess Celestia, I think it would be best for you to tell us exactly what happened last night so we have a clear idea of what we are facing here," Thorax spoke for the first time, receiving nods of agreement from the others at the table.
Celestia nodded solemnly before beginning to recount the events of the previous night. Detailing each crucial moment, she described how a storm of red clouds enveloped the castle, catching her by surprise on her nightly patrol through the empty halls. The feeling of an evil presence hovering in the air and the unexpected appearance of a masked, hooded biped brought an atmosphere of suspense and mystery.
Celestia conveyed with vivid intensity the quick and precise attacks that Yugen, formerly known as King Sombra, delivered against her. Celestia shared the surprise she felt when she managed to hit Yugen's left eye, while he was disconcertingly grateful for it. Her gratitude left everyone present at the table confused, further fueling the enigma surrounding the presence of this mysterious Shadow King reborn as Yugen.
However, the final message left by Yugen echoed in Celestia's mind, leaving her uneasy. He emphatically advised the princess not to become attached to the current reality as it announced that she would soon lose her existence. The weight of King Sombra's words caused everyone in the Council Room to feel a shiver run down their spines, aware that something extraordinary was about to happen.
As they listened attentively, the expressions of those present ranged from shock to determination. Everyone realized the seriousness of the situation, aware that King Sombra had returned with new cunning and, possibly, more power.
Twilight took the floor with determination, seeking to bring clarity to the worrying situation. "Considering the information we have just heard, I believe our first step should be to seek answers as to who exactly this Yugen is, and how he could be a reincarnation of King Sombra." The others nodded in agreement, recognizing the importance of this starting point.
Ember expressed the doubts she was facing. "My first question is: how can we be sure that this individual, Yugen, is indeed this reincarnation of King Sombra?"
Celestia promptly offered an answer based on her perceptions. "His dark aura awakened a familiar tone in me, but confirmation came when I was able to observe his eyes up close. The glowing sclerae in a deep shade of green and the familiar purple haze in the corners of his eyes left little doubt as to his identity ."
Celestia's words brought a clearer understanding of the connection between Yugen and King Sombra. However, even with this initial response, everyone in the Council Room understood that there was still much to be uncovered about this individual and the sinister powers he possessed.
Cadence expressed her new question with a dose of bewilderment. "I have another question: Why would this guy be grateful to have his eye shot? It's disturbing and it doesn't make sense."
Luna, completely agreeing with Cadence, decided to speak up for the first time. Both exchanged looks and nodded in agreement, recognizing the strangeness of this attitude. Being grateful for deliberately hurting himself was, without a doubt, disturbing and incomprehensible.
Celestia reflected for a moment and answered the question carefully. "In the case of this enigmatic Yugen, I suspect that he used being grateful for having his eye hit as a strategy to achieve some hidden goal or manipulate the situation to his advantage. The gratitude expressed for such an unusual act may have been intended to deflect the attention of others and cause confusion among his opponents. This deceptive tactic can work by creating an element of surprise and throwing his opponents off balance, allowing the masked man to take advantage of the situation as he pleases."
Celestia also highlighted that to fully understand the motivation behind this seemingly bizarre behavior, it would be necessary to further investigate the masked man's intentions and motivations, as well as his background and knowledge of the events that led to this situation.
Everyone accepted this answer.
"Any other questions?" Celestia asked.
Luna took the opportunity to address a subject that bothered her. "I have a question, sister. You mentioned seeing a storm of red clouds around our castle, didn't you?"
Celestia nodded. "Yes, that's what I saw."
Luna looked at Celestia's face, with an expression of perplexity. "But sister, the sky was completely clear. I didn't see any red clouds in the sky. How is that possible?"
Luna's words surprised Celestia, leaving her speechless for a moment. "What do you mean? I'm sure of what I saw! How come there weren't any clouds in the sky?"
Luna affectionately placed a hoof on Celestia's shoulder, trying to calm the situation. "Sister, don't you think you might have misinterpreted it or maybe it was an illusion in your head?"
Celestia's reaction was one of shock and disbelief. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. "Are you suggesting I'm going crazy?!"
Luna quickly tried to explain herself. "No, sister, I didn't mean that."
"I don't want to hear that!" Celestia interrupted, visibly frustrated. "You saw the evidence of the battle in the kitchen, how can you doubt me?!"
Cadence intervened with a firm tone of voice. "Enough, both of you! We are here at an important meeting to address a serious and high-risk matter. Let's focus on what matters and work together to find a solution."
Celestia, anger evident on her face, roared as she pointed childishly at Luna. "She started it!"
Ember, looking at Twilight with shock, asked in disbelief, "Is she always like this?"
Twilight, watching the scene with barely concealed amusement, replied, "Sometimes."
As the discussion continued, Thorax remained closely observing the interaction between Celestia and Luna. His mind began to connect the dots and he shared his thoughts with others.
"Sorry to interrupt, but perhaps there is an explanation for this discrepancy between what Celestia saw and what Luna witnessed. During the fight against the masked man, I believe he may have used some type of spell or magic to affect the perception of Celestia."
Everyone in the room looked at Thorax, intrigued by his words. Twilight Sparkle tilted her head, considering the possibility. "Are you suggesting that Celestia may have been the target of an enchantment or illusion that made her see something other than what she was there for?"
Thorax nodded, confirming the hypothesis. "Yes, exactly. The masked man seemed to have advanced magical abilities, and manipulating one's perception would be a clever strategy to confuse and disorient his opponents."
Cadence looked thoughtfully at Celestia. "That could explain why you saw the red clouds while Luna didn't see anything. It would be a consequence of that spell."
Celestia thought about the idea, realizing it made sense. "It is possible that I was the target of an illusion or magical control during the battle. This would explain the discrepancy in our perceptions."
Luna sighed in relief, the tension between the two sisters easing. "So, you weren't lying or going crazy, sister. It was magical manipulation that confused us."
Thorax smiled, pleased that his deductions had been taken into account. "I believe we should investigate more about the masked man and his magical powers. Understanding his abilities will help us face him more effectively next time."
Everyone agreed that this was a sensible approach and turned their attention to the discussion of the masked man, now considering the influence of his magic on recent events.
"Well, based on the information we have, this Yugen appears to be a reincarnation of King Sombra. He has the habit of hiding his face, is agile, and has impressive skills in controlling shadows. Furthermore, he is capable of casting illusionary magic, although the reason behind the red clouds is still unknown. It is undeniable that this individual is extremely powerful and holds vast knowledge. It is worth mentioning that he showed a strange satisfaction when being hit in the eye by a solar ray coming from Celestia's horn, which may indicate that he also has some kind of knowledge about him. Everything indicates that Yugen has dark ambitions and wants to obtain the power of Celestia's horn to fulfill them, and they are certainly not good." Succinctly, Twilight summarized the information shared by the group.
Ember frowned, showing concern. "If he is truly a reincarnation of King Sombra, that means we are dealing with a formidable adversary. We need to find out more about the motive behind the red clouds and how we can stop his dark ambitions."
Celestia nodded, her expression serious. "Indeed, Yugen seems to have considerable knowledge about us and our magic. We need to remain alert and search for additional information. It may be necessary to consult ancient sources or even seek allies who can help us in this battle."
Twilight pondered for a moment, before adding, "Also, we should analyze the connection between Yugen and Celestia's horn with caution. Aside from your talk about not getting attached to this reality. There is something more to this story, something we still don't understand." completely. We need to gather as much information as possible and formulate a plan to deal with this threat."
"We can't ignore the eye incident." Luna and Cadence expressed their disgust simultaneously.
Celestia nodded, demonstrating that she understood the importance of this disturbing detail. "I am aware of the relevance of this part. We will keep this in mind as we investigate and plan our strategy."
The eyes of those present met, full of determination given the seriousness of the situation. Together, they pledged to face Yugen and protect Equestria from the imminent dangers he posed.
Determined to act, they continued the meeting for a few more hours. Each contributed ideas and perspectives, working together to develop an effective plan to address this unknown threat. The tension in the air was palpable, but the unity and collaborative spirit strengthened their resolve.
Despite the fatigue felt by everyone, they remained focused and tireless in their mission to protect Equestria. They knew that every moment dedicated to the meeting was crucial to the future of their kingdoms and all its inhabitants.
By the end of the extended meeting, they had drawn up a detailed action plan, with each team member taking on different responsibilities to execute it. With a renewed sense of purpose, they took their leave temporarily, ready to face the challenges ahead and ensure the safety and security of Ponyville against Yugen's imminent threat.
Night had fallen over Equestria, bringing with it a relentless storm. Heavy rain fell mercilessly, soaking the landscape and creating a dark and mysterious atmosphere. Meanwhile, in a drinking bar far from Equestria, a mysterious being emerged from the shadows, walking towards its unknown destination.
The dark and rainy night enveloped the bar's atmosphere, adding a dark and mysterious element to the place. The noise of lively conversations and muffled laughter echoed off the wooden walls, providing a feeling of cozy refuge from the elements outside.
Suddenly, the bar door creaked, echoing through the dark corners of the room, as it was pushed inside by an imposing, hooded figure. His presence was captivating and icy, wrapped in a black cloak that trailed softly across the floor. From head to toe, the figure was completely shrouded in black clothing, emanating an aura of mystery and danger.
A shadowy hood covered the figure's face, hiding any trace of identity. The mask brought with it a feeling of torment and despair. Every detail, meticulously carved, revealed a macabre and dark work of art. Made of robust silver metal, its smooth, cold appearance evoked a feeling of merciless indifference.
The contours of the mask were rounded, enveloping the masked figure's face in a perfect, sinister manner. The silver surface reflected a distorted shadow, creating a distorted and disturbing image. There was no trace of physiognomy or traces of compassion in that mask.
Two sinister openings were left in the eye region, revealing only the absence of light. It was as if the infinite void looked back at whoever dared to look into those black orbs, creating a feeling of anguish and helplessness. The eyes, hidden by darkness, conveyed a feeling of abyss, capable of swallowing the light of the soul of anyone who ventured to look at them.
Every line and every detail of the mask contributed to enhancing its devilish and terrifying aura. She was a symbol of the haunting power that lay behind that hidden face, a window into the inner darkness of the masked figure. The combination of the lack of emotion, the cold metal, and the empty eyes was enough to send chills down the spines of everyone who dared cross her path.
That mask, although it had no voice, spoke for itself. It was a constant reminder that evil can take many forms and that behind the cold, merciless facade of a masked figure lies a well of evil beyond comprehension. It was a true work of dark art, made to provoke fear and surrender in everyone who came across it.
Even without being able to see the figure's eyes, darkness emanated from his being, creating a feeling of deep restlessness. Her erect, still posture exuded confidence and power, while the shadows seemed to dance around her, obeying his invisible command.
At that moment, a tense silence took over the room, as everyone watched with a mixture of fascination and awe at the masked figure before them. It was as if an emissary from the abyss had entered that place, to bring with him a promise of destruction and chaos.
Those present felt silent anguish as they faced that dark and enigmatic figure. It was difficult to determine whether it was just a hooded being or a creature beyond comprehension. But one thing was certain - the hooded figure personified the incarnation of all shadows and the primordial evil that yearned to emerge to shatter the light of the world.
The bartender, an imposing stud with a robust physique, wearing a dirty apron and with a few strands of gray partially hidden under a cap, cautiously approached the masked man. His eyes revealed a mixture of curiosity and distrust at this unusual scene.
"Can I help you in any way?" Asked the bartender, making an effort to remain calm in the face of the peculiar situation unfolding in front of him.
The masked man carefully raised his hand, revealing a small poster that displayed Cozy Glow's striking image. The filly in question was notoriously known for her criminal actions, which aroused a feeling of apprehension in the bartender upon recognizing the identity illustrated on the poster.
"I'm looking for Cozy Glow. I heard she's a frequent fixture here." Stated the masked man, her voice filled with mystery and determination, causing the words to resonate in the air.
The bartender studied the poster for a brief moment, hesitantly, but eventually nodded slowly.
"You'll find it at one of the tables in the corner, next to the fireplace." The bartender revealed, discreetly indicating the direction with a subtle movement of his head.
Briefly thanked, the masked man calmly walked towards the mentioned table. As he walked through the bar, patrons watched curiously, their minds filled with questions, as intrigue spread throughout the room, fueled by speculation about the masked man's true intentions.
Cozy Glow, a filly with a pink coat and curly light blue mane and tail, sat at the table with a confident look on her face. She noticed the masked man approaching and couldn't help but smile mischievously.
"So what brings you here?" Cozy Glow teased, leaning back in the chair.
The masked man pulled out a vacant chair and positioned it in front of Cozy Glow, remaining silent for a moment, creating an atmosphere of suspense.
The masked man then began to speak, "I see in you, Cozy Glow, incredible potential. A fearless and intelligent young woman, who wants to make her mark on the world. I can offer you an opportunity to reach your full true power."
Cozy Glow, suspicious about the matter at hand, suspiciously questioned, "Who are you? And why are you wearing that mask?"
The masked man replied in an enigmatic voice, "My identity is insignificant right now, my dear. What matters is what I can do for you. You have been underestimated and neglected for too long. You know you deserve better, don't you?"
The masked man's words made Cozy Glow grit his teeth, as a sneer formed on his face. "What exactly do you know about me ?" she asked, defiantly.
For a brief moment, the hole on the left side of the shadow being's mask seemed to glow a sparkling blue, before plunging back into darkness.
"I know everything about you, Cozy Glow, " the masked man replied, seeming to savor the sound of his name on his lips. This response left Cozy Glow amazed and afraid of the unknown presence of the masked man, no longer exuding the confidence she previously demonstrated.
The masked man proceeded cautiously, delving into the depths of Cozy Glow's past. "From an early age, you always dreamed big. Having an abundance of friends and even being a princess of Equestria were among your greatest desires. However, something happened, something that changed everything in an instant. The sweet, dreamy filly you were has died that day, being replaced only by an empty shell that still fights tirelessly to achieve its goals and fulfill its dreams, whether by hook or by crook."
Cozy Glow was even more intrigued and disturbed by the masked man's dark words. A shiver ran down her spine as she tried to understand how he could know so much about her hidden past.
"Who... who are you? How can you know these things about me?" Cozy Glow's voice trembled as anxiety mixed with the fear that began to emerge.
The masked man let out a low, threatening laugh. "Oh, Cozy Glow, my sources are vast and my knowledge is deep. I am the one who is beyond the eyes and ears, the one who watches and knows the darkest secrets of all."
Cozy Glow felt a chill run down his spine as the masked man slowly approached. She tried to control the feeling of panic that was beginning to take over her, but it was difficult. Her expression reflected the internal conflict she was experiencing at that moment.
"What do you want from me? Why are you approaching like this?" She questioned Cozy Glow, seeking answers and trying to understand the intention behind the masked man's menacing presence.
The masked man exuded a mysterious aura, which seemed to surround her. Her voice echoed with a mixture of seduction and revealing secrets. "Cozy Glow, I see your potential. I see the ambition that burns in your heart. I'm here to offer you a unique opportunity, a chance to achieve your deepest desires, to gain the power you've always craved."
A mixture of attraction and repulsion invaded Cozy Glow's thoughts. She hesitated for a moment, feeling tempted by the promises of power and revenge. The masked man's seduction was powerful and threatening.
"And what would I have to do? What do you expect from me?" She questioned Cozy Glow, seeking to understand the conditions that would be imposed if she accepted this dangerous proposal.
A dark smile took over the masked man's face. "Join me, accept my teachings, and faithfully follow my instructions. Together we can conquer Equestria and show off all those who underestimated us."
Cozy Glow struggled internally, feeling torn between the seduction of the words and the small spark of consciousness that still resisted. Uncertainty hung in the air, preventing her from making an immediate decision.
"I don't know if I can trust you..." She whispered, her voice filled with doubt and distrust.
The masked man came even closer, staring at her through the empty holes in his mask. "Cozy Glow, everyone has their dark side. I'm here to help you unleash yours. Together, we can achieve the greatness you've always craved."
Cozy Glow's mind became increasingly confused as she battled her own turbulent emotions. The decision was before her, but the consequences remained obscured by the aura of darkness that the masked man represented.
"Explain to me, in detail, what your plans are," Cozy demanded, trying to dispel the shadows that enveloped the masked man.
The masked man was silent for a few seconds, before he began to speak, with a forceful voice. "In this reality, emptiness and pain are the only protagonists, involving all corners of the world. It is for this reason that the world longs for a savior, someone with the ability to free it from these suffocating bonds. For there to be a winner, one is inevitably destined to be a loser. However, my resolute desire is to create a completely different reality, where this exhausting dynamic no longer prevails. The Rakuen. I envision a world free from loss and war, a true paradise, where happiness will reign eternally, where death loses its abominable reign and equality extends like a mantle of justice. A reality in which all adversity and suffering will be non-existent, where each being will find the joy and fulfillment they so deserve. And it is in this glorious panorama that you, Cozy Glow, will finally be able to reunite with those you love, leaving behind the suffering that once afflicted you."
Cozy Glow froze, feeling her heart beat frantically in her chest. Tears filled her eyes, as the masked man's insinuation echoed in her mind.
"Mom and Dad..." Cozy Glow whispered, realizing the temptation of reuniting with her loved ones and the dangerous choices she would have to make to achieve that uncertain possibility.
Cozy Glow felt a wave of emotions course through her body. The name of her parents, who were already gone, was a trigger for her deepest and most painful memories. A solitary tear escaped her eyes, mixing with the whirlwind of feelings that consumed her.
The masked man got even closer, softening his voice a little. "Yes, Cozy Glow. I can bring your parents back to you. I can eliminate the pain and sadness you feel. But to do so, you must join me, and embrace the power I offer you."
Cozy Glow held back crying, her mind struggling between the promise of an idealized reality and distrust of the masked man's dark intentions. She knew that life was not so simple, that playing with universal concepts had its consequences.
Cozy Glow accused, her voice shaking, "That's impossible! You wouldn't have the power to accomplish that. You're lying!"
The masked man responded honestly, "It is true that I currently do not have that power. However, with your collaboration and that of two other individuals I am planning to recruit, we will be able to overcome these limitations."
Cozy Glow reflected for a moment, pondering her only chance to get her parents back. Although aware of the risks, she felt a deep desire to bring her family back to life. With courage, she made a decision: "Okay. I accept your proposal. If this path can reunite me with my parents and make my dreams come true, I'm willing to take the risk."
The masked man smiled contentedly behind his mask, extending a gloved hand towards Cozy Glow. She hesitated for a moment, watching that shadowy hand, but, driven by a mixture of courage and curiosity, she extended her hoof to seal the deal. It was there that the greatest organization of villainy that Equestria had ever witnessed began.
"By the way," the masked man began, his voice whispering mysteriously, "Many know me as Sombra, but you can call me Yugen."
As the bar continued its steady bustle of daily activity, the masked man and Cozy Glow engaged in intense discussions, meticulously plotting their next audacious moves and forging a sinister alliance that would challenge the status quo. Observing everything from afar, the bartender couldn't help the chilling sensation that ran down his spine as he witnessed the emergence of a new, dark force.
THE MASKED
CHAPTER • 3
~~Progressing~~
As the sun rose above the horizon, its warm, brilliant colors painted the skies of Equestria, filling the world with light and warmth. While the ponies woke up, feeling refreshed and full of anticipation to face a new day full of possibilities, the merchants were already preparing their wares, ready to take their products to the busy streets of the city.
In the Royal Library, a majestic place located in the Castle of Friendship, Twilight found herself immersed in an immensity of books. They crowded around her as if hugging her, creating a welcoming and stimulating environment, perfect for the pursuit of knowledge. Using her purple magic, which always aroused curiosity and enchantment, she cautiously leafed through an old, carefully bound book, meticulously chosen from her vast collection. With tired eyes, she delved into the pages, eager for any clue that could reveal the mystery surrounding the enigmatic Sombra King, now known as Yugen.
However, as the hours dragged on and the sun reached its zenith, Twilight began to feel the weight of fatigue building up. Her back ached from hunching over books, while her eyes became heavy with the effort of reading page after page. A mixture of exhaustion and longing hung in the air of the library, and Twilight couldn't help but miss the valuable and comforting help of her beloved and faithful assistant, Spike.
As Twilight fought her exhaustion, a soft knock on the library door caught her attention. She looked up and saw Starlight Glimmer, a longtime friend and confidant. Starlight, worried when she saw Twilight's tired expression, entered the room carefully.
"Twilight, are you okay?" Starlight asked, with a mixture of compassion and curiosity in her voice.
Twilight sighed, feeling the weight of exhaustion lift a little with the comforting presence of her friend Starlight. "Starlight, I'm a little tired, but I'm fine." She said, offering a weak smile as a reassuring sign.
Observing the stacks of books around Twilight, Starlight couldn't help but feel a growing curiosity. Her eyes scanned the book covers before settling on Twilight again. With a hint of anxiety and a touch of curiosity in her voice, she asked, "That's good, but what are you looking for? It seems like you're in intense research."
Twilight was silent for a moment, pondering how to explain her quest. "I'm immersed in research about King Sombra." She responded finally, her expression turning serious at the mention of the dreaded name.
Starlight blinked at that response, surprised by the information. "King Sombra? Twilight, isn't this guy dead? As far as I know, he had been defeated." Starlight questioned, now confused.
Twilight sighed tiredly, feeling the weight of responsibility. "That's what I thought too, Starlight, but he managed to come back somehow. King Sombra's existence has always been shrouded in mystery and darkness, and his ability to resurface is equally mysterious and frightening."
She frowned, recalling past events. "Our first encounter with King Sombra was a difficult and threatening battle for the Harmony of Equestria. We thought we had defeated him once and for all, but it seems we underestimated his resilience and his thirst for power. Now, it is up to us to discover how he returned and prevent him from causing further chaos and destruction in our kingdom."
Twilight then closed her eyes for a moment, trying to gather her determination and focus. "That's why I'm diving into this research on King Sombra, Starlight. We need to understand his weaknesses, and his resurrection methods, and find a way to stop him once and for all. We can't let him endanger the peace and the harmony we achieved in Equestria."
Starlight listened carefully, understanding Twilight's determination.
"I understand your thirst for knowledge, Twilight, but remember to take care of yourself too. The search for answers can be exhausting and emotionally draining. I will always be here for you."
Twilight's expression softened as she looked at Starlight, recognizing the truth in her words.
"Thank you, Starlight. Your friendship and support mean the world to me. I promise I will be careful."
In a dark and distant setting of Equestria, where Celestia's glorious sun rays could not penetrate, two singular figures walked together: the young filly Cozy Glow and the mysterious masked and hooded, Yugen.
Cozy Glow felt intrigued and uncertain about that peculiar place. The silent, dark, and terrifying atmosphere aroused a feeling of fear that enveloped the poor, frightened filly. What terrified her most was the clear awareness of her destiny in those lands.
Casting a glance at the masked man next to him, who seemed to walk with unshakable confidence, as if the gloomy environment did not affect him, Cozy Glow recalled the conversation they had had hours earlier, before embarking towards Tartarus. The memory echoed in his mind, evoking both questions and fear.
[A few hours ago]
Cozy Glow and Yugen found themselves in a picturesque scene, sitting on a grassy hill, facing each other. Between them, an ancient map was unfolded, revealing the secrets of the surrounding territory. The wind whispered, swaying Cozy Glow's mane and making the masked man's hood dance. An aura of silence hovered over them, creating an introspective moment.
"Do you see this?" Yugen asked, pointing with his gloved claw to a specific point on the map, a few kilometers away from the peaceful village of Ponyville. His tone was calm as he said, "This is where we are."
Cozy Glow, understanding what was said, silently nodded its head in response. Her curious eyes remained fixed on the map, absorbing every detail.
Observing her intently for a split second through the dark holes in his porcelain mask, the masked man turned his attention back to the map.
"And here..." He pointed to a more remote part of Ponyville, his tone taking on a hint of somberness, "This is where we need to go."
Curious and surprised, Cozy Glow fixed her gaze on the specific point highlighted on the map, noticing with interest the dark clouds drawn over those distant lands.
"What place is this?" Cozy Glow asked, driven by curiosity.
Yugen remained silent for a moment, making it seem like he might not respond. However, before any uneasiness could set in, he issued a soft order: "Look into my eyes."
Cozy Glow, although unable to see his eyes behind the mask, promptly followed his instructions, fixing his gaze on the two empty holes.
And then, something extraordinary began to happen before them. The holes in the masked man's mask radiated an intense green glow, surrounded by a delicately distorting purple mist. The phenomenon was so unexpected and captivating that it drew a sigh of wonder from Cozy Glow before she slowly felt herself being enveloped by a sensation of her consciousness gradually fading away.
Upon regaining consciousness, Cozy Glow awoke in a deep void, surrounded by a surreal setting. Her eyes opened to a horizon covered by dense and ominous red clouds, which seemed to cover all the skies around her. An inexplicable feeling of unease washed over her as she tried to understand where she was and what had happened.
As Cozy Glow tried to get up, she was beset by a heavy and oppressive atmosphere. The red clouds seemed to move ominously, as if they had a life of their own, enveloping her in their ominous presence. The air became thin, making it difficult to breathe, and a feeling of helplessness enveloped her.
As Cozy Glow frantically struggled to find a way out of the oppressive void, a mysterious whisper echoed beside him. She slowly turned around and was faced with Yugen's intriguing presence, emerging from nowhere. Her eyes, now with crimson pupils emitting an intense green glow through the sclera behind the porcelain mask, radiated an enigmatic and powerful aura that Cozy Glow had never witnessed before. Feeling intrigued and, at the same time, apprehensive, Cozy Glow decided to interrupt the tense silence and launched her questions:
"Yugen, where exactly are we? What is happening here? Why are we trapped in this disturbing void? Please tell me!" Cozy Glow was soon silenced by the firm gesture of Yugen's gloved hand.
"Calm down, I'll explain it to you." He responded with an authority that conveyed assurance and knowledge. "We find ourselves in the Shadow Dimension, a utopian world that exists inside my mind. Here, I have complete control over everything that happens, from the landscapes to the events that unfold."
Cozy Glow looked around, his eyes shining with wonder at Yugen's incredible power and dominance.
"But how... How did we get here?"
Yugen sighed before replying, "You're here because I entered my own Shadow Dimension and brought you with me."
In an instant, Yugen's eyes stared intensely into his mind, as if delving into his deepest thoughts. Cozy Glow felt an inexplicable connection as he explained what he had just done.
"Yes, you are right. I used my power to access your mind while maintaining that eye contact. For, as they say, the eyes are the windows to the soul." Yugen said, with a thoughtfulness in his voice. "However, I must admit that this power comes at a small price, taking an uncomfortable physical and mental toll on me."
Cozy thought about this answer, however, something caught his attention, the red clouds that filled the skies of this peculiar world.
Curious, she pointed to the clouds and asked Yugen, "These red clouds in the skies... Do they represent something? What is their meaning?"
Yugen stopped for a moment, staring at the red clouds while a thoughtful expression appeared on his masked face. He then responded, his voice charged with meaning: "These clouds represent my current state of mind. They are a visual manifestation of the whirlwind of emotions and energies coursing through my mind right now."
Cozy Glow absorbed his words, trying to understand the complexity of this inner world. She realized that not only power and control but also emotions influenced this place. Curious, she asked:
"So, Yugen, how do your emotions affect this Shadow Dimension? And what happens to the clouds when you are happy or sad?"
Yugen smiled small, silently enjoying her curiosity. He replied, "My emotions play an essential role in this world. When I am happy and at peace, the clouds turn to softer tones, reflecting the serenity I feel. However, when my mind is tormented by sadness or anger, the clouds take over. a darker and more tumultuous tone, reflecting my inner turmoil, which to be honest, is almost always that."
Cozy Glow absorbed this new perspective, understanding that the Shadow Dimension was both a physical and emotional manifestation of Yugen's life.
"Okay, but why are we here?" Cozy Glow finally expressed the question that tormented her, wanting to know the real reason for her presence in that place.
Yugen didn't respond immediately. His intense eyes behind the mask stared blankly at Cozy Glow in oppressive silence before he turned around.
"Come with me." He demanded simply, her footsteps leading him away from the young filly, snapping her out of her shock, she promptly followed suit.
Yugen guided Cozy Glow through a shadowy void in front of him. Every step taken seemed to intensify the oppression of the surrounding environment. Finally, they arrived at an imposing black gate, adorned with glowing red symbols and rooted with twisted branches at its side. With a slow movement, Yugen opened the gate, revealing a vast and terrifying space: Tartarus.
Cozy Glow gulped as he saw the endless expanse of the abyss in front of him. An icy wind blew, carrying indefinite murmurs of anguished souls. Sinister flames danced a macabre ballet, illuminating the fearsome horizon.
"This is the Tartarus," Yugen explained in a low voice. "It's the place where damned souls are imprisoned after death."
Cozy Glow felt an icy chill run down his spine as he took in the gloomy atmosphere that enveloped the place. She was absorbed by the magnitude of that environment, being confronted by its malevolent essence, which seemed to hover in the air like a tangible presence.
Yugen gave Cozy Glow a serious look. "However, this is not the real Tartarus. Remember that we are still in the Shadow Dimension. What we are witnessing is only a modest representation of its vastness created by me."
Still dazed by the place she found herself in, Cozy Glow blinked as logic suddenly made sense in her mind.
"So this is the destination we're heading towards, right?" asked Cozy Glow with apprehension.
"Exactly," Yugen confirmed, validating his suspicions. "I thought I'd give you a little taste of what's to come, after all, I don't want to have to carry someone unconscious in my arms."
Cozy Glow was momentarily still, a chill running down his spine at Yugen's comment. She swallowed hard, fighting to shake off the fear that threatened to overwhelm her again. Her eyes locked for a brief moment on Yugen's two glowing red and green orbs before darkness swallowed her vision once more.
[Present]
Snapping out of her reverie, Cozy Glow was startled as she focused on Yugen, whose voice sounded for the first time in several hours.
"We arrived."
Immediately, Cozy returned her gaze to the front and let out a breathless sigh. It was undeniable. They had finally reached their destination. The gate, now more immense and threatening than ever, dominated the landscape before her. The massive structure of the gate stood before Cozy like a shadowy monument, a frightening masterpiece of otherworldly architecture. Curved, twisted branches, resembling grotesque and expectant claws, protruded from the sides of the gate, adding a sinister touch to its appearance. Every detail was meticulously carved, creating an atmosphere of uneasiness and apprehension.
A palpable energy was already emanating from the gate, enveloping it in heavy, unnerving vibrations.
The surface of the gate, enveloped by its grandeur, was covered in intricate and enigmatic reliefs. Every detail depicted arcane symbols and patterns, as if telling the story of an unknown and ancient universe, full of hidden secrets.
However, what caught Cozy's attention the most was the intense glow that emanated from these reliefs. A blood-red glow, vivid and sinister, that defied curious glances. It was a visceral light, which seemed to pulse in tune with a hidden and mysterious power.
As it swept across the shadowy contours of the structure, the blood-red glow gained in intensity, as if a blazing flame danced beneath the sculptural surface. This glow gave off a disturbing feeling, a seductive invitation for the fearless to venture beyond the gate.
Cozy felt a sense of oppression when facing that ominous gate. Her heart sped up even more, enveloping her with a growing uneasiness. The chill that coursed through her stomach increased, sending chills through her body. She knew there was no going back now.
Yugen's icy voice resounded in the air, causing Cozy Glow to jump in bewilderment. "Fear not." He declared with an indifferent coldness. His words were devoid of any trace of warmth or emotion.
They weren't friends, that much was clear. Yugen's impersonal voice made it clear that they were mere partners destined to achieve their joint goals. This partnership was not based on emotional bonds or camaraderie, but on common interests and goals to be achieved.
Cozy Glow felt the absence of any kind of emotional connection in Yugen's words. It was as if they were trapped only by shared obligations, maintaining a superficial relationship devoid of genuine feelings. There was no room for friendship or empathy within this dynamic.
Yugen wasted no time as he quickly approached the gate, closely followed by Cozy Glow.
They stopped in front of the imposing gate structure. Cozy Glow couldn't help but feel a shiver of fear run through his body as he was faced with the immense grandeur and intimidating presence emanating from the gate.
Cozy Glow, with his eyes fixed on the gate, noticed something that he had previously missed: a mysterious seal that locked the entrance.
Curious and a little intrigued, she approaches the seal to examine it in more detail. The runes engraved on the surface of the seal appear ancient and unfamiliar, evoking a sense of magic that permeates the surrounding air.
Cozy Glow hesitantly decides to extend the hull and touches the seal carefully. Feeling a slight tingle at her touch, a glimmer of information crosses her mind. She realizes that the seal is a powerful protective barrier, designed to keep out any unwanted beings.
Yugen coldly stops Cozy Glow's exploration and calls her back.
"Cozy Glow, get away from the seal immediately." Yugen orders, his voice brimming with authority. "I'll handle it."
Cozy Glow recoils in surprise at Yugen's firm attitude, but understands the seriousness of the situation. She hesitates for a moment, but finally takes a few steps back, giving Yugen space to act, wondering how he was going to open that seal.
Yugen approaches the seal and studies the runes with a discerning eye.
He then soon understands the extreme importance of utilizing his hidden power at this crucial moment. It delves deep into your essence, focusing your inner energy with palpable intensity. The left hole of his mysterious mask begins to glow impressively, emitting a mysterious and mesmerizing blue luminosity.
As Yugen prepares to launch his energy beam, he closes his eyes for a brief moment, focusing his determination on every pore of his being. His breathing becomes calm and rhythmic as he tunes his mind to the magnitude of the challenge before him. Through your spiritual connection, it channels your energy into a single point of concentration, gathering your inner strength.
The climactic moment arrives when Yugen, with a fluid and elegant movement, opens his eyes, revealing a left eye that shines with surprising intensity. A radiant blue beam erupts from that eye, cutting through the air like a blade of light, imbued with immeasurable power. Her trajectory is determined and impeccable, heading directly towards the seal of the imposing gate.
The beam of energy travels swiftly through the air, leaving behind a shimmering trail of ethereal energy that seems to defy the physical laws of the world around it. As approach the seal, the force contained in the beam manifests itself in a series of intense and powerful vibrations. The seal, unable to resist the lightning's overwhelming power, responds with a series of tremors and shudders that echo through the air.
As the energy of the beam impacts the seal at a specific point, a wonderful phenomenon unfolds before the eyes of Yugen and Cozy Glow who watched the entire scene in wonder from behind. The runes carved into the surface of the seal begin to vibrate at an increasingly intense frequency, until finally, they succumb to the tremendous energy imposed upon them. The runes fragment into countless particles of light, scattering through the air in a brilliant, resplendent explosion.
At that moment, the gate, now free from the barrier that kept it closed, opens majestically. Its massive metal doors creak and shake as if hailing Yugen's victory over the challenge placed before him. The sound of the bang resounds in the air, echoing throughout the place with a grandeur that seems to celebrate overcoming adversity.
Cozy Glow, shocked and unable to contain her curiosity, asks in a surprised tone, "Wow! What was that?"
Yugen replies nonchalantly, "Alicorn magic."
Cozy Glow's eyes almost popped out of his head at this information, "Wait, you're an Alicorn?!"
Yugen responds dryly, "No."
Cozy Glow looks at Yugen, clearly disappointed with the short and direct answer.
"And... well, then how do you possess Alicorn magic?" asks Cozy Glow, trying to understand the situation.
Yugen responds with a sarcastic tone, "That was just a gift given to me."
Cozy Glow, already a little stressed by Yugen's empty answers, insists on getting more information. "Okay, okay, but how exactly does this Alicorn magic you have work? Can you explain it to me?!"
"I'll tell you another time," Yugen replied in a tone that made it clear that there was something more behind his words. Cozy Glow felt instantly intrigued by the mystery surrounding Yugen and her eyes focused toward the object of her attention.
As he followed Yugen's gaze, Cozy Glow noticed the dark and sinister path that stretched beyond the imposing gates of Tartarus. A chill ran down her spine and her pulse quickened, clearly demonstrating the fear that enveloped her.
The darkness seemed inviting, but the foreboding of imminent danger hung in the air, instilling in Cozy Glow a feeling of apprehension.
Yugen, with his unwavering authority, glared at Cozy Glow from an angle that she could see his eyes, unmistakably communicating his command to move forward. It was impossible to ignore the determination in Yugen's eyes, which indicated the dark and sinister path that lay beyond the grand gates of Tartarus. Cozy Glow felt a shiver run down her spine and her heart accelerate, clearly revealing the fear that enveloped her at that moment.
The two then decided to cross the gates of Tartarus. With each step taken, the massive gates closed behind them, echoing the metallic sound that seemed to seal their fate.
