It’s late at night in the city of canterlot. 11:00 o’clock to be exact. It’s a cold winter night. All the ponies are asleep in their beds. But one creature… a human. She hasn’t been able to sleep. Not after what her so called… Friends? have done.
“Are they what they say they are? Do they really tell the truth about what they think about me? I don’t think they are. They just want me gone.” Solis says as she opens a bottle of beer.
She starts to drink until she hears the sound of hooves behind her.
“What do you want.” Solis states as she sets down the empty bottle and opens another.
“I haven’t seen or heard from you in a while. I was just wondering how you ar-“ Celestia says.
“Stop. You don’t care. If you did you would’ve asked how I am. Or where I was. I knew you never cared. You only pretended to, so you can uphold your image as a great princess.” Solis says as she is interrupted by Celestia.
“Solis. You know I care about you. I really do care about you. We all do.” Celestia says sorrowfully.
“Who’s we?” Solis asks. “The only thing you could ever do is ask your student and her friends to solve YOUR problems! Hmm. Let’s take a trip down memory lane! What about Discord? You knew I could have erased him from reality or banished in for eternity. But you ask your student. Let me remind you. The one who stopped YOUR SISTER! EVERYTHING THEY HAD TO DO WAS BECAUSE OF YOU!” Celestia flinches as Solis shouts at her.
“I told them that I could not do it. I have tried before and I’ve used the elements too many times Solis. You know this.” Celestia says with tears in her eyes.
“Just go. Leave me alone. You can’t fix what’s already broken.” Solis says as she opens another beer.
“Just tell me one thing before you go. Why didn’t you let me help the girls on their adventures? Like discord or the changeling invasion? What about when Tirek rampaged? Is it because I’m too weak? Too delicate? You didn’t want anything bad happen to me? Well I’m done. Why don’t you shove off Permanently.
“Oh… okay. Solis… I’m… I’m sorry.” Celestia says with tears in her eyes as she walks away.
Shortly after Celestia leaves Solis pulls out a picture from her pocket. It’s of her and a mare. Tempest. Unique for her broken horn and hard shelled outside.
Solis stares at the picture for what seems for hours before she’s interrupted by another sound of hooves approaching her. Except this time it’s a group of hooves. Which can only mean one thing.
“Solis?” Twilight asks.
“What do you want? Here to make my life worse?” Solis says as she takes another drink of alcohol.
“No. We’re here to make things right. We’re here to be your friends” Applejack says as she approaches Solis.
“Friends? Heh. Friends. That’s a good one. What are you all gonna do? Lower my pay rate? It’s low enough as it is. You can take my camera and take pictures of the canterlot monkey I could use the money because I’ve got hospital bills to pay off because of you all. And that’s just how we met!” Solis shouts.
“One little thing happened. What’s your problem?!” Rainbow dash shouts back.
“Your all my problem! Each and everyone of you is just a problem that I have to deal with on a daily basis! Why don’t I show you all just how much pain you all have put me through.” Solis says as she pulls out a gun. “Know what this is? No you all don’t. Your ponies. You only settle problems with friendship and musical numbers. While back home on earth. The hell I called home we settled it with violence. And with enough violence you’ll get results. This is a .45 caliber. Enough power to blow your brains out with one bullet. If you all don’t go then I’ll happily kill each and everyone of you.” Solis says with no doubt.
“Twilight darling maybe we should just leave.” Rarity says as the others nod.
“Your right rarity. We’re… we’re sorry Solis.” Twilight says as she and the girls leave.
As the girls leave, Solis is left standing in the park alone as she walks over to the handrail and stares over it and looks towards the distance. And hears a monotone voice call out to her.
“Solis.” Maud says
“What do you want maud.” Solis says emotionless.
“I just came to check on you. You know there was a busy day at the rock farm.” Maud says in her usual monotone voice.
“Yeah no shit. I didn’t come because I quit.” Solis says as she taps her gun against the rail.
“Why are you out here then.” Maud asks as she approaches Solis.
“To think.” Solis says without hesitation.
“To think about what?” Maud asks again as she walks by the bench she sees a bunch of empty beer bottles. “You’ve had a lot to drink solis. It’s unhealthy you know.” Maud says
“That’s the point.” Solis says as she turns and tosses the empty beer bottle over the rail.
“Why are you really here Solis.” Maud asks again.
“I used to come here a lot with somepony special. She felt like the daughter I never needed but I wanted.” Solis says.
“It’s Tempest isn’t it?” Maud says.
“How did you know?” Solis asks with an agitated tone.
“I went inside your home. I had permission from the princess. And I found a letter from Tempest. I know that you’re trying to help her but she’s been gone for three years now. You need to let her go.” Maud says with more sympathy in her voice.
“I wanted an earth pony to perform the surgery but the only one there was high on drugs. So they had to get a unicorn. The unicorn gave tempest magic poisoning and she died. That’s the reason why I hate Unicorns and alicorns so much. It drove me into depression and made me want to kill myself.” Solis says with a straight face.
“Why are you so determined to kill yourself Solis?” Maud asks with sadness in her voice.
“Some things I just can’t forget. Whatever I do they’re always there. Eating away at me. I don’t have the guts to pull the trigger so I kill myself a little every day. I’m going home.” Solis says as she walks away.
“Goodbye Solis.” Maud says as she walks away.
As Solis is walking back to her home she begins to think. Was it her fault that tempest died? No… it couldn’t have been. She did everything to make Tempest forget about her broken horn. Everything. But it never seemed to work. Tempest was always judged and made fun of. It always hurt Tempest, but Solis made her feel better. As Solis thinks to herself she reaches her house. A small, one bedroom and one restroom, a small living room and a slightly larger kitchen.
“Damnit. Why. Why God! Or whatever is up there! WHY!” Solis shouts to herself as she unlocks the door and walks in to find her house a mess. Her dog lying in the corner and the furniture thrown around the room. Solis places some fire wood in the fireplace and lights the fire as she walks to the refrigerator and grabs a bottle of whiskey and sits at the table in the kitchen and lays her revolver on the table.
“Roulette. The game of chance. Why not. After all I can just rig it to make sure that I blow my brains out. I hate equestria, I hate the ponies, I hate everything.” Solis says as she grabs her revolver and loads a bullet into the chamber and spins it. When it stops spinning she puts the gun to her head and starts to pull the trigger but is interrupted by a knock at the door. So she sets her gun down and walks to the door.
When she goes to check she finds a basket with a filly inside. And a note that reads.
“Please take care of this filly. You may name her whatever you want. I have no intention on raising a filly of my own because I cannot keep a stable job. Please take care of her. I’m sure she will be in good care with you human. I’ll be sure to return the favor in the future.”
Signed a no named mare.
“What the? Why me? I don’t think that I could do this. I can’t. No… I have to. No. What would mom say? … I guess I will.” Solis says as she grabs the basket and carries it inside and she sets the basket on the kitchen table and she walks over and grabs her revolver and sets it on top of the fridge and puts the whiskey away in the fridge.
“Let’s see what we’ve got here.” Solis says as she opens the blanket to reveal a Pegasus filly with a color of fur that’s as dark as night And a mane that looks like it a flame that burns with potassium. An electric Amethyst color.
“I think I’ll name you. Swift Shadow. But I’ll think you’ll rather go by Amethyst.” Solis says as she picks up Amethyst. “You’re rather quiet and adorable for one your age. Maybe you’ll take after me and adapt to my skills. Who knows. You could surpass me. But I can tell that you’ve got potential. You may not understand now but you will in the future Amethyst. Don’t let anyone tell you who to be. You’ll be what you want to. A wise man told me once. “Even the lowest-born can outdo the elite” But I’m sure you’ll do just fine.” Solis says as she takes Amethyst to her room.
Solis lies the filly in a crib and Solis tucks the filly in and she leaves the room and goes back to the kitchen.
Solis sits down on a chair and ponders about anything that can draw her mind away from suicide.
“I’m replaceable. Why should a filly need me? How did that pony know I was a human. I thought that I was an outcast. No one cared until now. How would they know?” Solis says to herself. She stands up and goes to walk towards the fridge but trips and slams her head against the ground before jolting awake.
“What the?! Where… Am I?” Solis says as she looks around. “Oh. I must have passed out from the whiskey. Where’s my gun?” Solis says as she grabs the revolver and sets it on the table. And walks to the bathroom.
And she looks in the mirror.
“Look at yourself. A disgrace. A failure. You’ve never amounted to anything in your life. Why don’t you just pull the trigger. Blow your brains out. You’ll be doing EVERYPONY a favor.” The reflection says.
“What the? You’re wrong! But… maybe you’re right. Damnit all. DAMNIT ALL!” Solis shouts as she slams her fist against the mirror and the mirror shatters. Solis walks into the kitchen and grabs another bottle of whiskey and sets it on the table and she sits at the table and takes a drink of the whiskey and grabs the gun and spins the chamber and points it towards her head.
Solis pulls the trigger but all she hears is a click. So she spins the chamber and takes a drink and pulls the trigger again and it clicks again. She goes to do it again but is interrupted by her front door opening so she sets her gun down on the table and stares down towards the table. A pony walks in. Twilight does.
“I worried about you Solis. I came by to see if you were alright. I came to apologize. You should stop thinking about her. Nothing can change the past. But you can learn to live again… for yourself… and for Tempest.” Twilight says in a sincere tone.
“You know every time you all left on an adventure it reminded me of my daughter. Except she never came back. But humans don’t come back. I’d give anything to hold her again.” Solis says with an emotionless tone.
Twilight stands there for a moment trying to figure out what to say. “I understand.” Twilight says sadly.
“Now leave me alone. Go on, complete your mission, since that’s all you care about.” Solis says while slightly looking up.
Twilight stands there before Solis shouts at her.
“GET OUTTA HERE!” Solis shouts.
Twilight turns around to leave and she starts crying as she leaves. As she walks out and closes the door and loud bang can be heard from the inside of the house and Solis’s dog starts to bark. Twilight jumps from the bang and steps away from the house before looking back and walking off.
