Roulette.

Previous Chapter

As Solis is walking back to her home she begins to think. Was it her fault that tempest died? No… it couldn’t have been. She did everything to make Tempest forget about her broken horn. Everything. But it never seemed to work. Tempest was always judged and made fun of. It always hurt Tempest, but Solis made her feel better. As Solis thinks to herself she reaches her house. A small, one bedroom and one restroom, a small living room and a slightly larger kitchen.

“Damnit. Why. Why God! Or whatever is up there! WHY!” Solis shouts to herself as she unlocks the door and walks in to find her house a mess. Her dog lying in the corner and the furniture thrown around the room. Solis places some fire wood in the fireplace and lights the fire as she walks to the refrigerator and grabs a bottle of whiskey and sits at the table in the kitchen and lays her revolver on the table.

“Roulette. The game of chance. Why not. After all I can just rig it to make sure that I blow my brains out. I hate equestria, I hate the ponies, I hate everything.” Solis says as she grabs her revolver and loads a bullet into the chamber and spins it. When it stops spinning she puts the gun to her head and starts to pull the trigger but is interrupted by a knock at the door. So she sets her gun down and walks to the door.

When she goes to check she finds a basket with a filly inside. And a note that reads.

“Please take care of this filly. You may name her whatever you want. I have no intention on raising a filly of my own because I cannot keep a stable job. Please take care of her. I’m sure she will be in good care with you human. I’ll be sure to return the favor in the future.”
Signed a no named mare.

“What the? Why me? I don’t think that I could do this. I can’t. No… I have to. No. What would mom say? … I guess I will.” Solis says as she grabs the basket and carries it inside and she sets the basket on the kitchen table and she walks over and grabs her revolver and sets it on top of the fridge and puts the whiskey away in the fridge.

“Let’s see what we’ve got here.” Solis says as she opens the blanket to reveal a Pegasus filly with a color of fur that’s as dark as night And a mane that looks like it a flame that burns with potassium. An electric Amethyst color.

“I think I’ll name you. Swift Shadow. But I’ll think you’ll rather go by Amethyst.” Solis says as she picks up Amethyst. “You’re rather quiet and adorable for one your age. Maybe you’ll take after me and adapt to my skills. Who knows. You could surpass me. But I can tell that you’ve got potential. You may not understand now but you will in the future Amethyst. Don’t let anyone tell you who to be. You’ll be what you want to. A wise man told me once. “Even the lowest-born can outdo the elite” But I’m sure you’ll do just fine.” Solis says as she takes Amethyst to her room.

Solis lies the filly in a crib and Solis tucks the filly in and she leaves the room and goes back to the kitchen.

Solis sits down on a chair and ponders about anything that can draw her mind away from suicide.

“I’m replaceable. Why should a filly need me? How did that pony know I was a human. I thought that I was an outcast. No one cared until now. How would they know?” Solis says to herself. She stands up and goes to walk towards the fridge but trips and slams her head against the ground before jolting awake.

“What the?! Where… Am I?” Solis says as she looks around. “Oh. I must have passed out from the whiskey. Where’s my gun?” Solis says as she grabs the revolver and sets it on the table. And walks to the bathroom.

And she looks in the mirror.

“Look at yourself. A disgrace. A failure. You’ve never amounted to anything in your life. Why don’t you just pull the trigger. Blow your brains out. You’ll be doing EVERYPONY a favor.” The reflection says.

“What the? You’re wrong! But… maybe you’re right. Damnit all. DAMNIT ALL!” Solis shouts as she slams her fist against the mirror and the mirror shatters. Solis walks into the kitchen and grabs another bottle of whiskey and sets it on the table and she sits at the table and takes a drink of the whiskey and grabs the gun and spins the chamber and points it towards her head.

Solis pulls the trigger but all she hears is a click. So she spins the chamber and takes a drink and pulls the trigger again and it clicks again. She goes to do it again but is interrupted by her front door opening so she sets her gun down on the table and stares down towards the table. A pony walks in. Twilight does.

“I worried about you Solis. I came by to see if you were alright. I came to apologize. You should stop thinking about her. Nothing can change the past. But you can learn to live again… for yourself… and for Tempest.” Twilight says in a sincere tone.

“You know every time you all left on an adventure it reminded me of my daughter. Except she never came back. But humans don’t come back. I’d give anything to hold her again.” Solis says with an emotionless tone.

Twilight stands there for a moment trying to figure out what to say. “I understand.” Twilight says sadly.

“Now leave me alone. Go on, complete your mission, since that’s all you care about.” Solis says while slightly looking up.

Twilight stands there before Solis shouts at her.

“GET OUTTA HERE!” Solis shouts.

Twilight turns around to leave and she starts crying as she leaves. As she walks out and closes the door and loud bang can be heard from the inside of the house and Solis’s dog starts to bark. Twilight jumps from the bang and steps away from the house before looking back and walking off.
