Between Small Bravery and Big Shyness
Chapter 1

The red dragon had resettled at the top of the mountain near Ponyville, and he had resumed to emit a thick black smoke covering the sky. But this time, he was doing it against his will. The poor beast had fractured one of his wings and couldn’t move anywhere else. Celestia decided then that the dragon should be cured and appointed Fluttershy to take care of him. However, she still was a bit afraid of his great size, which made the task difficult.
Twilight, having used transformation spells recently, felt that it was possible to help again. By growing Fluttershy’s size a hundred times, she should no longer have problems taking care of the creature.
Fluttershy and Twilight headed then towards a great clearing down the mountain. Right here, Fluttershy could grow without risk for other ponies and climb the mountain directly with her big hooves. Although getting a lot taller frightened her greatly, Fluttershy felt she had to accept this solution. She definitely couldn’t leave a single creature in need.
Fluttershy stood still in the middle of a path that crossed the clearing, waiting for Twilight to cast her spell.
“Please, don’t cast a spell that would make me grow instantaneously,” Fluttershy worried.
“No problem,” Twilight replied as she cast her spell on her.
Fluttershy felt a strange sensation running through her and then noticed her size changing gradually. But the ground was getting closer to her instead of moving away! Instead of growing, she was actually shrinking, losing an inch (two centimeters) for every second. Confused, Twilight could only watch Fluttershy shrink to the size of a dog, a rabbit, a mouse, until she was no bigger than an insect. She had just shrunk a thousand times her size and Twilight’s towering hooves caused mini-earthquakes when she moved closer to make out her friend among the boulders-like pebbles.
“Sorry, I cast the wrong spell, it’s the one I used in the village last time,” Twilight explained, embarrassed.
Fluttershy felt quite dizzy and watched Twilight sit in front of her for better focus. Releasing a second spell, Twilight observed Fluttershy grow this time. Just before shrunk to the point she was barely distinguishable, Fluttershy gained some height and gradually returned to her normal size. Flutershy watched the ground move away from her this time, outgrowing Twilight by 6, 15, then 30 feet (2, 5, then 10 meters).
At this point, the magic stopped and Fluttershy had to look far down to distinguish a purple, figurine-like shape. Her hooves were as big as houses and she was a little hesitant to move, feeling the heaviness of them. Twilight took off from her position and joined Fluttershy’s muzzle. In front of her two large pupils, Twilight spoke to her friend.
“You’re already quite big, but it’s still not enough. You will have to reach three hundred feet (one hundred meters) to be able to cure this dragon. You’ll surely be too big to distinguish me at this point, I trust you for the rest.”
“What? Twilight, wait…”
But it was too late, the alicorn had already cast her spell and Fluttershy’s growth started again. Little by little, the houses she discerned in the distance became less and less detailed, looking closer like small specks of dust. Twilight, who was on her muzzle, disappeared in her fur which now exceeded four feet (one meter). In front of her, the huge cyan-colored irises seemed to be looking for her as they grew even bigger. Soon, she was so big that the mountain itself seemed to look like a small hill, easy to climb. Her powerful hooves now left prints on the ground which were several feet long.
No longer able to communicate with Twilight, Fluttershy set out to climb the mountain and join the dragon. When she found him in his cave, the creature was three times smaller than her. She could take him between her hooves like a little kitty. And that she did, giving a massage on his sore wing to treat him.
Once her therapy was done, Fluttershy would descend from the mountain to the plain. Twilight, who watched the whole scene on her muzzle, would then use her magic to make her shrink and restore her original size. This exercise was repeated several days in a row.
Fluttershy had finally gotten used to turn into a giantess on a daily basis. The more Twilight cast her spell on her, the more she felt her magic permeate her. It was as if her body could gain several tens of feet with more and more ease, without any unpleasant sensation. After a few days, the dragon’s condition improved considerably and he then left the mountain, restoring to Ponyville its former blue sky.
More than once, Rainbow Dash was flying nearby during these routine exercises and was watching her giant friend do her work from afar. That reminded her of her experience when she was shrunk by Twilight, and she did admit that she would like to do it again.
Having gone to find Zecora, the zebra advised her a potion that would shrink her as much as the last time for twenty-four hours, a thousand times smaller. Wishing to surprise Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash went to her cottage before she returned from her last intervention. Once in her room, Rainbow drank the potion in one go and threw the bottle into the trash can next to her shelf.
Little by little, Rainbow felt the same sensations as last time, shrinking until she was no taller than one tenth of an inch. She had reached the same height as Fluttershy’s bed, then it was soon out of the question to climb on top of it, her size being rather close to the one of a breezie before shrinking at least twenty times smaller. She was once on a carpet which she covered entirely, but now she was again no more than a tiny blue dot on it.
She wanted to wait for Fluttershy to come back home so she could greet her with her small stature, sneak back into her mane, and spend the day with her. Unfortunately for her, two ferrets broke into Fluttershy’s room and spotted the little blue dot on the carpet. They just wanted to play with it, but they were no less dangerous for Rainbow. When one of the ferrets pounced on her, Rainbow Dash dodged as best as she could with her legendary speed. Zigzagging between the belongings scattered around the room, Rainbow was multiplying the figures to escape the immense claws of her attackers.
However, Rainbow was getting tired from avoiding them, and a paw almost hit her head-on. Spotting a huge kind of cotton garment in front of her, she sneaked into the cavity created by it to hide herself. The ferrets, no longer seeing any trace of the little ball they were tracking, left the room, disappointed.
Meanwhile, the amplified sounds of hooves came from the stairs and Fluttershy appeared in the room.
“I was starting to get attached to this dragon, the last intervention was longer than expected,” she soliloquized. “But I should hurry now if I don’t want to keep Rarity waiting for my opinion on her latest collection. Where did I put the socks she had given me to try on?
Spotting the white and light green striped socks on the floor next to the carpet, Fluttershy came up to them and proceeded to put them on her hind hooves.
Rainbow Dash realized that the garment she was in was lifted and fell deep inside it. She felt the fabric fidget before a shape emerged inside. In an instant, she understood that it was the huge tip of Fluttershy’s hind hoof which was coming inside the sock. Finding herself fifty times smaller than it, she couldn’t struggle when it came into contact with her and caught her between the sole and the fabric.
Unaware of Rainbow’s presence, Fluttershy finished putting on her socks and began to walk a few steps with them. Rainbow couldn’t even move. However, when Fluttershy’s hoof was touching the floor, the sole of her hoof proved soft enough to inflict no injury on her. With some habit, Rainbow could almost have found it enjoyable.
“They fit me so well!” Fluttershy enthused. “I must congratulate Rarity.”
Trotting back on her steps, a slight shift in her sock took Rainbow up on the back of her hoof. She was still trapped by the fabric, but at least she was no longer in contact with the ground. Through transparency, she could watch the streets of Ponyville go by, elevating and descending with each of Fluttershy’s steps.
Once at Rarity’s house, Fluttershy shared her impressions with her. Rarity was very pleased with her criticism but still noticed a tiny imperfection on her left hind hoof. Indeed, a really small bump was visible on the side of her sole, which Rarity’s sharp eye did not fail to notice.
Deciding to find a solution to this imperfection, Rarity told Fluttershy to sit on one of her benches. Raising her hind hoof, Fluttershy was watching Rarity, who had sat on her flank just in front of her and was gently removing her sock. Actually, the bump was following the movement of the fabric. When the entire sock was removed from the hoof, the small bump retracted, letting out a small blue ball. That one seemed to fall to the ground just in front of Rarity’s flank. The bouncy shapes of it towered over the minuscule blue dot in comparison. Squinting their eyes, Fluttershy and Rarity quickly recognized small multicolored reflections on that strange object, and actually they noticed it wasn’t one.
“Rainbow Dash?!” both of them exclaimed in unison at the sight of the tiny blue shape, so minuscule in front of their hooves.
“Surprise?” tried to suggest Rainbow, shrugging in front of her two giant friends.
