//-------------------------------------------------------// Between Small Bravery and Big Shyness -by Cerf-changeant- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 1 //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 1 Fluttershy still couldn’t believe her ears for agreeing to this request. The red dragon had resettled at the top of the mountain near Ponyville, and he had resumed to emit a thick black smoke covering the sky. But this time, he was doing it against his will. The poor beast had fractured one of his wings and couldn’t move anywhere else. Celestia decided then that the dragon should be cured and appointed Fluttershy to take care of him. However, she still was a bit afraid of his great size, which made the task difficult. Twilight, having used transformation spells recently, felt that it was possible to help again. By growing Fluttershy’s size a hundred times, she should no longer have problems taking care of the creature. Fluttershy and Twilight headed then towards a great clearing down the mountain. Right here, Fluttershy could grow without risk for other ponies and climb the mountain directly with her big hooves. Although getting a lot taller frightened her greatly, Fluttershy felt she had to accept this solution. She definitely couldn’t leave a single creature in need. Fluttershy stood still in the middle of a path that crossed the clearing, waiting for Twilight to cast her spell. “Please, don’t cast a spell that would make me grow instantaneously,” Fluttershy worried. “No problem,” Twilight replied as she cast her spell on her. Fluttershy felt a strange sensation running through her and then noticed her size changing gradually. But the ground was getting closer to her instead of moving away! Instead of growing, she was actually shrinking, losing an inch (two centimeters) for every second. Confused, Twilight could only watch Fluttershy shrink to the size of a dog, a rabbit, a mouse, until she was no bigger than an insect. She had just shrunk a thousand times her size and Twilight’s towering hooves caused mini-earthquakes when she moved closer to make out her friend among the boulders-like pebbles. “Sorry, I cast the wrong spell, it’s the one I used in the village last time,” Twilight explained, embarrassed. Fluttershy felt quite dizzy and watched Twilight sit in front of her for better focus. Releasing a second spell, Twilight observed Fluttershy grow this time. Just before shrunk to the point she was barely distinguishable, Fluttershy gained some height and gradually returned to her normal size. Flutershy watched the ground move away from her this time, outgrowing Twilight by 6, 15, then 30 feet (2, 5, then 10 meters). At this point, the magic stopped and Fluttershy had to look far down to distinguish a purple, figurine-like shape. Her hooves were as big as houses and she was a little hesitant to move, feeling the heaviness of them. Twilight took off from her position and joined Fluttershy’s muzzle. In front of her two large pupils, Twilight spoke to her friend. “You’re already quite big, but it’s still not enough. You will have to reach three hundred feet (one hundred meters) to be able to cure this dragon. You’ll surely be too big to distinguish me at this point, I trust you for the rest.” “What? Twilight, wait…” But it was too late, the alicorn had already cast her spell and Fluttershy’s growth started again. Little by little, the houses she discerned in the distance became less and less detailed, looking closer like small specks of dust. Twilight, who was on her muzzle, disappeared in her fur which now exceeded four feet (one meter). In front of her, the huge cyan-colored irises seemed to be looking for her as they grew even bigger. Soon, she was so big that the mountain itself seemed to look like a small hill, easy to climb. Her powerful hooves now left prints on the ground which were several feet long. No longer able to communicate with Twilight, Fluttershy set out to climb the mountain and join the dragon. When she found him in his cave, the creature was three times smaller than her. She could take him between her hooves like a little kitty. And that she did, giving a massage on his sore wing to treat him. Once her therapy was done, Fluttershy would descend from the mountain to the plain. Twilight, who watched the whole scene on her muzzle, would then use her magic to make her shrink and restore her original size. This exercise was repeated several days in a row. Fluttershy had finally gotten used to turn into a giantess on a daily basis. The more Twilight cast her spell on her, the more she felt her magic permeate her. It was as if her body could gain several tens of feet with more and more ease, without any unpleasant sensation. After a few days, the dragon’s condition improved considerably and he then left the mountain, restoring to Ponyville its former blue sky. More than once, Rainbow Dash was flying nearby during these routine exercises and was watching her giant friend do her work from afar. That reminded her of her experience when she was shrunk by Twilight, and she did admit that she would like to do it again. Having gone to find Zecora, the zebra advised her a potion that would shrink her as much as the last time for twenty-four hours, a thousand times smaller. Wishing to surprise Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash went to her cottage before she returned from her last intervention. Once in her room, Rainbow drank the potion in one go and threw the bottle into the trash can next to her shelf. Little by little, Rainbow felt the same sensations as last time, shrinking until she was no taller than one tenth of an inch. She had reached the same height as Fluttershy’s bed, then it was soon out of the question to climb on top of it, her size being rather close to the one of a breezie before shrinking at least twenty times smaller. She was once on a carpet which she covered entirely, but now she was again no more than a tiny blue dot on it. She wanted to wait for Fluttershy to come back home so she could greet her with her small stature, sneak back into her mane, and spend the day with her. Unfortunately for her, two ferrets broke into Fluttershy’s room and spotted the little blue dot on the carpet. They just wanted to play with it, but they were no less dangerous for Rainbow. When one of the ferrets pounced on her, Rainbow Dash dodged as best as she could with her legendary speed. Zigzagging between the belongings scattered around the room, Rainbow was multiplying the figures to escape the immense claws of her attackers. However, Rainbow was getting tired from avoiding them, and a paw almost hit her head-on. Spotting a huge kind of cotton garment in front of her, she sneaked into the cavity created by it to hide herself. The ferrets, no longer seeing any trace of the little ball they were tracking, left the room, disappointed. Meanwhile, the amplified sounds of hooves came from the stairs and Fluttershy appeared in the room. “I was starting to get attached to this dragon, the last intervention was longer than expected,” she soliloquized. “But I should hurry now if I don’t want to keep Rarity waiting for my opinion on her latest collection. Where did I put the socks she had given me to try on? Spotting the white and light green striped socks on the floor next to the carpet, Fluttershy came up to them and proceeded to put them on her hind hooves. Rainbow Dash realized that the garment she was in was lifted and fell deep inside it. She felt the fabric fidget before a shape emerged inside. In an instant, she understood that it was the huge tip of Fluttershy’s hind hoof which was coming inside the sock. Finding herself fifty times smaller than it, she couldn’t struggle when it came into contact with her and caught her between the sole and the fabric. Unaware of Rainbow’s presence, Fluttershy finished putting on her socks and began to walk a few steps with them. Rainbow couldn’t even move. However, when Fluttershy’s hoof was touching the floor, the sole of her hoof proved soft enough to inflict no injury on her. With some habit, Rainbow could almost have found it enjoyable. “They fit me so well!” Fluttershy enthused. “I must congratulate Rarity.” Trotting back on her steps, a slight shift in her sock took Rainbow up on the back of her hoof. She was still trapped by the fabric, but at least she was no longer in contact with the ground. Through transparency, she could watch the streets of Ponyville go by, elevating and descending with each of Fluttershy’s steps. Once at Rarity’s house, Fluttershy shared her impressions with her. Rarity was very pleased with her criticism but still noticed a tiny imperfection on her left hind hoof. Indeed, a really small bump was visible on the side of her sole, which Rarity’s sharp eye did not fail to notice. Deciding to find a solution to this imperfection, Rarity told Fluttershy to sit on one of her benches. Raising her hind hoof, Fluttershy was watching Rarity, who had sat on her flank just in front of her and was gently removing her sock. Actually, the bump was following the movement of the fabric. When the entire sock was removed from the hoof, the small bump retracted, letting out a small blue ball. That one seemed to fall to the ground just in front of Rarity’s flank. The bouncy shapes of it towered over the minuscule blue dot in comparison. Squinting their eyes, Fluttershy and Rarity quickly recognized small multicolored reflections on that strange object, and actually they noticed it wasn’t one. “Rainbow Dash?!” both of them exclaimed in unison at the sight of the tiny blue shape, so minuscule in front of their hooves. “Surprise?” tried to suggest Rainbow, shrugging in front of her two giant friends. //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 2 //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 2 After all those adventures, Rainbow Dash had to admit her attraction to be smaller when Fluttershy was nearby. The latter, although surprised, had received it well. Part of herself would never have imagined that from the blue pegasus, but another part of her accepted it wholeheartedly. Actually, she felt some kind of relief in the end, although it was hard to explain. There was a period when those things were no longer mentioned. And then, one day, Rainbow told Fluttershy about her feelings. About her desire of doing it again and bringing there a potion like last time, without the surprise. Fluttershy interrupted her before she gets on her high horses by putting her hoof on her mouth. “Shhh… I understand but… The fact is…” “I get it if you don’t feel like it,” Rainbow sympathized. “This is quite… weird. Sorry bothering you with my crave for shrinking.” “Listen, I don’t think like that,” Fluttershy assured. “Would…you like to join me tonight at the clearing behind my shed? I have to show you something. Please, come alone.” “You can count on me!” Once the night settled, Rainbow Dash went behind Fluttershy’s shed and walked for quite a while before reaching the desired place. There, the yellow pegasus has been quietly waiting for her, sitting on her flank and contemplating the forest. “I’m glad you came, Rainbow,” Fluttershy began. “There’s something I kept to myself following my mission to cure the dragon. I don’t understand much about it myself, I just know that… well, just watch.” Suddenly, Fluttershy seemed to focus on something and, little by little, her body grew in size. She grew slowly, until she reached the height of a tree nearby and then got even taller. Rainbow Dash soon found herself facing a thirty feet tall giantess (ten meters). “Wah!” Rainbow exclaimed. “Without Twilight’s help?” “I stored a lot of magical energy during my interventions,” Fluttershy explained. “It looks like I can control my size now.” “Is it true?! That’s even better then!” Rainbow said enthusiastically. “Can you grow more?” “I guess… I never went beyond that. I must say I was very scared the first time it happened. I almost alerted Twilight. I was so terrified, the only thing I wished at that moment was to regain my initial size. And then…” Upon these words, Fluttershy began to shrink until her muzzle came just in front of Rainbow’s. “I did get my normal size back but…” With that, her shrinking resumed. Little by little, she found herself below the torso of the pegasus, until she was no longer as tall as her shins. In the end, she was smaller than blades of grass. “I kept shrinking until I was Angel’s size! I didn’t know what to do! But focusing more…” Fluttershy grew again and came back to Rainbow’s size once and for all. “I finally managed to get my original size back! Following this event, I became aware of my ability but didn’t tell anypony about it. And when you talked about this desire to become small again, Rainbow, I thought it was the right time to tell you. Rainbow Dash was speechless. She never thought it could be possible, but magic did still have unexplored limits. She didn’t know what to say about this. “Humph… Rainbow. If that doesn’t suit you… I mean, if you don’t like… well… Rainbow interrupted her with her hoof and whispered to her. “No, that’s perfect. You’re so great, Fluttershy.” Fluttershy couldn’t suppress a faint smile and some redness on her cheek. She was happy to feel accepted by her best friend. Others would surely have considered her some kind of monster, but Rainbow Dash looked cheerful about this particularity. “Thank you,” Fluttershy replied, full of gratitude. “So, would you like to do something in particular?” The blue pegasus knocked both of her front hooves together and exclaimed: “Well, Fluttershy, I’d like you to make me feel very small compared to you! Go ahead and reach the top!” “All right!” Fluttershy replied, feeling confidence coming back thanks to her friend’s encouragement. Fluttershy laid down next to Rainbow. She closed her eyes and began to focus. Rainbow Dash first saw her flank growing, reaching her muzzle and then continuing its ascent even higher. Fluttershy quickly reached thirty feet (ten meters) but she continued to grow beyond this threshold. Her hind hooves were right in front of Rainbow and kept outgrowing her as she grew. Her entire foot could now cover the surface of any house, then the one of Twilight’s castle, then even a good portion of Ponyville along its length. When she opened her eyes, she was amazed at how tall she had reached. Surely the same height as when she was taking care of the dragon. Fortunately this time, the darkness of the night and the clearing being sufficiently apart from the town were enough for her not to be seen by prying eyes. In the end, she liked to feel big. Especially when Rainbow was around now. Thinking of Rainbow, she began to look for her on the ground, but she saw nothing. Nevertheless, she felt almost imperceptibly something caressing her right hind hoof. Looking as best as she could, she made out a tiny blue shape flying its way along her hoof, brushing the fur on her coat that had become immensely tall. She felt the gentle caress all the way on her leg, then it went around her flank, until it went up along her spine. The pleasant sensation of massage made Fluttershy shiver, as Rainbow moved closer to her head. Rainbow was no taller than an ant compared to Fluttershy, but her speed was enough to make her feel all the sensations. Fluttershy could even feel the blast of air from her acrobatics on her eyes when the blue pegasus passed in front of her huge pupils and stabilized just above her muzzle. “Fluttershy, you’re superb!” Rainbow exclaimed. “You too, Rainbo…” Fluttershy had replied instinctively with enthusiasm, forgetting the amplified sound of her voice. This caused a small shock wave which was enough to wake up all of Ponyville. Soon, all the little windows lit up. Fluttershy knew all too well what this meant and made a quick, panicked decision. Suddenly, Rainbow saw Fluttershy’s muzzle move away from her and get closer to the ground. Fluttershy was shrinking fast, for fear of being seen, she had already reached thirty feet tall again (ten meters). “Hey, wait!” Rainbow warned as she returned to the ground next to Fluttershy. When she landed, Fluttershy was already no taller than a filly. She was continuing to shrink, reaching only one foot, one inch, one tenth of an inch… (thirty centimeters, one centimeter, one millimeter…) “Stop!” Rainbow exclaimed. With that, Fluttershy opened up her eyes again and realized that she had become minuscule. She had never become that small before, and was stunned as she gazed at the four blue hooves that exceeded her height a thousand times and the face of the pegasus that replaced the Moon. Rainbow looked worried, maybe she couldn’t see her anymore. “Rainbow! Did you hear that racket?” Rainbow Dash turned around to see Applejack joining her at a gallop. The din caused by her hooves was enough to shake the ground under Fluttershy, who struggled to keep standing up. In front of her, Rainbow chose to sit. “I… I was looking for where it came from too!” Rainbow replied. “I wonder what it was. That sound was so loud!’ the cowgirl exclaimed. “I’d never hear anything like that, even in Tartarus!” Fluttershy was right next to Rainbow’s huge hooves and set out to use them to climb on the pegasus. Feeling a slight rubbing on her coat, Rainbow was convinced it was time to leave. “Whatever it was, it must be far away now. And I’m sleepy,” she said, yawning. “See ya tomorrow to talk about it?” “I’m still worried about it,” Applejack expressed. “I’ll keep searching for a bit, but I think you’re right.” “Goodnight then.” Rainbow stood up as she felt her fur wriggling on her back. Fluttershy shouldn’t risk falling in any way. “Hey, Rainbow! You wouldn’t have seen Fluttershy by chance?” Her ears perked up and she turned towards Applejack as she replied. “You know her, she must be scared to death! She won’t leave her house tonight, I assure you.” “Yes, indeed. I was wondering if she’d have taken flight too…” With that, Rainbow Dash flew away and returned home. Exhausted, she went to her room. All these adventures made her slump on her bed where she fell asleep like a log. In the early morning, Rainbow Dash woke up as usual, still dazed from her night. And like every morning, she put her white and blue striped socks on. She wouldn’t show them to anypony, but it was part of her morning ritual to better wake up. She was in the beginning of her breakfast, sitting on her chair, when she felt something rubbing her right hind hoof. Realizing there was a bump underneath the cloth, Rainbow Dash quickly made the match. “Oops, Fluttershy, I completely forgot about you! Why haven’t you regained your normal size all this time? Can’t you grow anymore?” Hearing those words, Fluttershy proved the opposite, and the bump began to grow under the sock. Soon, the bump reached two inches and the fabric started to give way. “Uh, not now Fluttershy! Rarity is not going to like sewing all of this again and it will be difficult for me to explain. The bump reacted and shrank again, even disappearing completely, Fluttershy now becoming imperceptible behind the fabric, being much smaller than its thickness. “Okay, I think I get it,” Rainbow observed. With that, she began to take her sock off gently. The cloth slid down her hoof and a tiny yellow grain escaped from it. Landing on a carpet, the grain stood there for a while, next to the sock that was a hundred times bigger and Rainbow’s hoof. Then, it started to grow, Fluttershy’s features becoming more and more distinguishable. Returning to her normal size, Fluttershy looked a little tired but still happy. “You slept with me all night?” Rainbow questioned with a smirk. “Yes, but with my real size.” “Then why were you that small and hidden inside my sock this morning?” “Uh, surprise?” Fluttershy replied, smiling. “That’s what I thought,” Rainbow agreed. //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 3 //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 3 “Hey Fluttershy, it might be fun to make the same ‘surprise’ to Rarity like last time.” Rainbow’s proposal fell on the ears of the yellow pegasus, lying on friend’s bed. She blushed a little on that. “Oh… I know Rarity is trustworthy, but I don’t think we should bother her. She must surely be very busy with all her commissions.” “That’s for sure,” Rainbow confirmed. “And the next planned commission is mine! Well, don’t repeat it to anypony… It’s a costume idea for the Wonderbolts, the show, and all that…” “Ah… Well, in that case, I agree,” Fluttershy replied with a smile as she sat up. “How small would you like me to shrink?” “Very small, indistinguishable,” the blue pegasus suggested. “More than a thousand times smaller anyway.” Rainbow sat up too, facing Fluttershy. “See my socks?” she asked, pointing to the pair right next to them. “I have to bring them to Rarity like you did recently. I would like you to be so tiny that you could get into it by sneaking through the stitch. Since Rarity’s sewing was very meticulous, I think you get my point…” “Wow,” Fluttershy exclaimed, “it’s really very small indeed.” Fluttershy was a little scared to shrink that much. But Rainbow had already experienced an even smaller size, she must have known what she was talking about. Besides, Fluttershy knew that she could regain her true size at any time, which was already more reassuring. “Still up for it?” her winged friend asked. “Yes, I can do it,” Fluttershy assured, looking determined. “Great! Before you get smaller, I’d like to add something to make the element of surprise better. Obviously, we won’t be able to communicate anymore, especially once in my sock, but I think I can give you a signal. If you feel my hoof tapping the ground three times in a row quickly, it will mean that you can return to your normal size. I’d really like to see Rarity’s face when she’ll notice a bump appearing and growing right before her eyes! Try not to destroy the sock too much, you’ll have to come out at the right time!” “Got it!” Fluttershy replied, nodding. “Can I start now?” “It’s the perfect time.” Right in front of her, Fluttershy seemed to concentrate for a moment before starting to shrink gradually. She was losing inches every second and was already only reaching her friend’s knees. For Fluttershy, Rainbow was continuing to grow more and more as her surroundings were changing. The folds of the sheets were getting impressive, looking more and more like gigantic dunes, hard to climb and promising some glides. Rainbow’s face was getting farther and farther up, her hooves were gaining in height and got taller than her like skyscrapers. Rainbow watched as Fluttershy reached one third of an inch (one centimeter) and continued her shrinking. She was careful not to move her hind hooves, which were usually harmless at her normal size, but which were now becoming imposing structures for her, capable of making her feel earthquakes at the slightest friction. Shrunk ten times smaller (one millimeter), Fluttershy continued to shrink in size and Rainbow had to squint to locate her. She was again no more than a yellow speck on the motifs of the sheets, and yet this grain seemed less and less discernable. Blinking at one point, Rainbow eventually lost sight of her friend, who was now far too small to be visible to her. Nonetheless, it was perfect. Fluttershy was amazed that she had managed to shrink that much. Her hooves were now on one of the fabric stitches of the sheet, or rather one of the sides of the stitch. The thread she was on had to be totally invisible to the naked eye, and she had now the perfect size to squeeze through any matter. In front of her, a large blue shadow loomed. She could barely see Rainbow’s face because it seemed so far away. Leaving her thread of fabric, Fluttershy gained height and hardly managed to reach more than one tenth of an inch above the sheet (3 millimeters). Flapping her wings, she saw a large white mass in the distance and headed towards it. Not being as athletic as Rainbow, her wings took a long time to get her to the gigantic socks that must have been five times the surface area of Ponyville for her size. Approaching these, the fabric stitches were now well spaced apart. She passed through them with all the ease in the world, almost like a well-opened hangar. Making her way through, she reached what she recognized as the end of the inside of the sock. She landed on one of the threads there and waited for what would come next. Rainbow, who had waited about ten minutes, now felt that Fluttershy should have arrived in the sock. Finally moving her muscles, she lifted one of the socks and began to put it on her hind hoof. Fluttershy had clung to her thread and she saw a large blue mass appear in the huge cavity as it approached and hugged the cotton insides, progressing delicately. Rainbow’s hoof was disproportionate to her size. The hoof stopped in front of her, the cotton threads now hugging it perfectly. Fluttershy was right between Rainbow’s two large pads, which gave her plenty of space, even when her friend would be walking. The huge blue wall that Fluttershy was clinging to was actually a little damp and warm. The yellow pegasus could see large aqueous conglomerates hanging on it all around her. Rainbow’s sweat was pretty much present on her hoof, something Fluttershy could smell as well. But it was still bearable for her, maybe she even felt good a little, surrounded by all this sweet warmth. Rainbow was quite sporty after all, so it was only natural that she would sweat a little more than other ponies. The two friends were now going to Rarity’s house. During the trip, Fluttershy held on tightly to Rainbow’s hoof. Despite the shaking, she felt comfortable here. She couldn’t help but lightly rub her cheek against the huge soft blue wall. Unbeknownst to either of them, too busy as they were, a purplish magical aura appeared where Fluttershy was, before dissipating as if nothing had happened… When Rarity heard the bell, she knew her client today would be special, but not to this extent… Rainbow valued her reputation and avoided wearing clothes usually. Rarity had noticed the effort though, as her client was already wearing her socks when she walked through the door. The unicorn suspected, however, that Rainbow might have flown high in the sky to avoid more prying eyes. “Ah, Rainbow! I was waiting for you! Keep your socks on, dear, I need them to test these new outfits! We’ll look at those later!” “Ah? Okay, as you wish, Rarity!” A long time of trying clothes followed then, which did not fail to bore Rainbow at one point. For some costumes, the socks were completely enclosed inside, momentarily plunging Fluttershy in the dark, although strands of light still escaped from the material that made them up. Rainbow wanted to surprise Rarity while taking off her socks, she had to be focused on them! Otherwise, Fluttershy would appear unexpectedly, without much panache. Although it was already a pretty cool idea for a magic trick. Staggering a little, Rainbow got lost in her thoughts as Rarity had just dressed her in a dress that suited her for an official ceremony. Her front hooves were getting sore, and she didn’t realize she was starting to have difficulty holding them in place, sliding her hooves back and forth. Until the fateful moment when she absentmindedly tapped one of her hind hooves against the ground several times. Fluttershy immediately understood that this was the signal and she began to grow inside the sock. However, something didn’t go quite as planned. Rainbow found the small mannequins at the back of Rarity’s shop amusing. The more she looked at them, the smaller and cuter they seemed, as if it were a doll’s parade. Something that would have suited Rarity’s childhood. But it was weird, these mannequins were really small actually. And Rarity was looking at her strangely, open-mouthed even. Oh. Looking at her hooves, she noticed that the ground was getting farther and farther away from her, she was growing before Rarity’s very eyes. She understood right away what she had just done while she was in her thoughts… She also understood that this was not normal. It was Fluttershy who had to grow, not her! Unless… Could Fluttershy’s abilities be passed on? Fluttershy was panicked, she was concentrating with all her might. But Rainbow’s gigantic hoof, which was surpassing her, didn’t change at all. Had she lost her powers? The possibility of remaining that tiny was only adding to her stress. So, she continued to concentrate, closing her eyes. Rainbow’s dress tore quickly, the socks already couldn’t take it anymore because of her growing hoof. Rarity was speechless at the sight of everything and didn’t move. Rainbow hastily took off her socks, trying to make contact with Fluttershy in some way. But the yellow pegasus wasn’t aware of this act. As she did take off her socks, Rainbow expected her growth to come to an end. On the contrary, the ceiling of the shop was getting dangerously close to her head. Somehow, though Rainbow was completely naked as usual, Fluttershy must have stayed on her, clinging to her hoof. And more precisely, between her two big pads. In spite of herself, Rainbow could no longer leave the building. Trying to crouch down as best as she could, her flanks reached the back of the shop while her head and front hooves were banging against the entrance. Rarity had already fled the building before the inevitable happened. A din occurred as the entire structure collapsed under the pressure of Rainbow’s ever-growing body. Luckily, Rarity’s shop was actually just a branch on the outskirts of Ponyville, further away from the real Carousel Boutique. Rainbow reassured herself that she wouldn’t do much damage to the other buildings, finding herself more in the open field. Lying as she was, her gigantic blue hooves were facing Rarity and they were continuing to grow. They were now bigger than her former shop. Rainbow Dash should have reached the size of three hoofball fields. Being so tall in front of everypony didn’t exactly flatter Rainbow’s ego. On the contrary, it irritated her a bit to be the center of attention this time. That thought made her curl up her hooves, and something seemed to fall from them. Instantly, the growth effect stopped. Now nearly five hundred yards tall (five hundred meters), Rainbow could only give a sigh of relief. She couldn’t have imagined growing even bigger when her hind hooves, which were the direct view in front of Ponyville, were already two hundred yards long (two hundred meters)! Rarity blinked and saw a small yellow shape approaching her. At first, she tried to push it away with a swing of her hoof, but she soon realized that it was a small Fluttershy barely one fifth of an inch tall (five millimeters). “Hum… Rarity, are you alright?” Rarity didn’t move. “Oh, huh… I’ll explain everything, first…” Even more bizarrely, Fluttershy began to grow to her normal height right in front of her. Fluttershy was reassured that she hadn’t lost her powers after all. Turning around, the yellow pegasus let out a small cry of surprise. “Was… was it me who did that?” In front of them, Rainbow’s gigantic flank loomed over them with more than one hundred times their size. Her huge hind hooves, each of which towered above the town hall, crisscrossed each other. She was so embarrassed to find herself like that in front of her friends. “Was that a surprise?” Rarity asked. “Yes,’’ they both replied in unison, though Rainbow’s voice sounded more like a loud rumble. Rarity turned to Fluttershy. “I think you’ve beaten Pinkie on her playground.” “I think so,” the pegasus advised. //-------------------------------------------------------// Final Chapter //-------------------------------------------------------// Final Chapter Several days had passed since the accident at Rarity’s shop. Rainbow had regained her normal size thanks to Fluttershy’s help, who had shrunk down again to make her shrink with her. This unfortunate event had awakened Rainbow to certain aspects of her personality. Against all odds, she much preferred to feel smaller than giant. Although more robust with this size, she had felt vulnerable, less free of her movements. Everypony had looked at her while she couldn’t do anything with her wings, heavy as she was. She couldn’t escape from their stares either, she could only wait for Fluttershy, or even Twilight, to come and solve this situation. On the other hoof, when she was shrunk, really tiny at the sight of anypony, it was a real firework of emotions. Her freedom was increased tenfold, the ground was much less present because her wings only desired to twirl in a very small room, which was like a hangar for her. She was almost invisible, nopony could really enjoy her acrobatics, but it opened a lot of doors for her in terms of pranks. What excited her the most was seeing the world differently. A world with fewer obstacles. And to see Fluttershy so big for once, it made her particularly happy. Ever since they got to know each other, the yellow filly never really put herself forward. Seeing her bigger made her more present, stronger. Rainbow didn’t dare admitting it to herself, but perhaps she had liked this sensation of protection she’d felt the first time she’d hidden in Fluttershy’s fur. It was a special feeling for her, one that she knew all too rarely. And of all the ponies, feeling it with Fluttershy was surprising deep down. She felt even smaller, minuscule, as if she kept shrinking on the shy yellow pegasus. That, of course, multiplied her feeling of freedom and self-assurance. Everything was perfect. But since the accident, Rainbow had sought to avoid new adventures that would alter her size. The memory was still all too present. This morning, Rainbow went to the Sugarcube Corner. Her healthy diet prevented her from eating too many pastries, but she definitely couldn’t refuse a few delicacies from time to time. “Three extra coated maxi chocolate éclairs, OK!” Pinkie exclaimed. “Quiet down Pinkie!” Rainbow growled. The pink pony gave Rainbow a large box while Rainbow gave change. Greeting her friend at the counter, the blue pegasus seemed like heading for the door before stopping there, thinking. Her stomach was rumbling, she hadn’t eaten anything yet since she woke up. She decided to stay a while and sit down at a table indoors. Opening the box, she discovered three éclairs that looked super caloric. Chocolate of all kind covered all the pastries in a way that was both elegant and generous. In front of that, Rainbow had no choice but to start on her snack. The éclairs were perfectly delicious and she couldn’t help but begin the second éclair after devouring the first one. The second one was even better, but was finished in far fewer bites. On closer inspection, the third éclair looked less massive than the other two. She could lift it with just one hoof when she had needed two before. Being still hungry, she ended up eating the last éclair with relish. Looking at the empty box before her, something distinctly startled her. The box also looked smaller, as well as the table, and… Risking a glance at the counter, she noticed that everything had shrunk. And she knew very well what that meant, because she had the same feeling a few days ago. “Pinkie! Your cakes are making me bigger!” “If you eat too much, perhaps,” the pink pony replied, looking elsewhere without noticing her. “Gummy has gained another pound on the scales, I give him only mint candies in the meantime, there’s less sugar in it apparently.” “Pinkie!” Unable to get the attention of her friend who was too much busy preparing orders, Rainbow could only notice that she continued to grow during this time. She was already three times her original size, her belly causing the small table before her to tip over and her hind hooves now touching one of the walls of the room. In front of the counter, two or three customers were staring at her open-mouthed. One of them even preferred to leave, for fear of getting bigger too, probably. That’s it, Rainbow thought to herself, it was going to happen again. She was going to grow a lot again and obviously be the center of attention. Maybe, to monstruous proportions. Faced with that thought, the pegasus panicked a bit and tried to reach the exit door without tipping over too much furniture. In spite of all her precautions, her flank met the ceiling light, which almost fell, and her hooves knocked over a few chairs. Arriving at the door and continuing to grow, Rainbow crouched down and crawled to pass through the opening. With her head out, she pushed her front hooves through the door but her continued growth blocked her torso; her behind got stuck inside while she was still growing. The customers had spread out against the walls: there were in front of them a flank and two long hooves in sitting position against the sides of the door. Rainbow’s tail had become huge as well, shaking in all directions and brushing every wall of the room. Pinkie Pie still wasn’t aware of what was apparently going on. Rainbow had no choice but to change her position by extending her hooves against the floor, getting into a more lying position that diminished the width of her body. However, the tips of her hooves met the counter and pushed it violently, which unsettled Pinkie. Rainbow took this opportunity to get out of the shop completely, finally freed. Straightening up, Pinkie realized the mess in the room. “I’d put less caffeine in the éclairs tomorrow…” she said to herself, dazed. Standing up as well, Rainbow could only notice her size. Her mane now reached the top of the Sugarcube Corner and she was still continuing to grow. Not thinking twice, the blue pegasus set off for Twilight’s castle, eager to find a quick cure. Her walking through Ponyville, however, was not an easy task. Slaloming her flank between houses, avoiding narrow alleys, she was also careful not to hurt anypony. With her eyes looking continually downwards, she watched the other ponies move away from the reach of her hooves while looking at her, risking stiff necks. The farther she went, the more the ponies and houses seemed to shrink. She was beginning to get three times taller than the roofs, which was equivalent to twenty times her original size. As she grew, her hooves started to make a thud, shaking the whole village, leaving large impacts on the way. She looked more and more like a monster who would have come to terrorize the inhabitants with her coming, except that this was a young mare well known to them, whose flank now loomed above the thatched roofs. Rainbow Dash felt less and less comfortable as she progressed. Her hooves were as big as houses again, just like last time. She was feeling the heaviness of her walk, she knew that she was surely weighing a few dozen tons. She did everything she could to avoid stepping on anything and managed to do so against all odds. Very focused on her walk, she was surprised to receive a small blow to the face, close to her right eye. This shock made her stop as a precaution and raise her head. In front of her pupil was a tiny grey pegasus in a mailmare outfit. Rainbow Dash knew her well, and she was astonished to see her so small, now as big as one of her eyelashes. The tiny pegasus recovered from her shock and flied away, passing in front of the giantess’s huge pink iris, still quite dizzy. This made Rainbow’s apprehension even stronger, imagining all the heads raised to the sky at that very moment. No choice, she had to keep going. The houses kept shrinking from her point of view, she could have included five of them on just one of her hooves. Her four hooves were placed on large squares, which allowed her to do less damage. Observing now that it was easier for her to step over all the houses to reach the external border of the village, Rainbow began to lift two of her hooves with the utmost care. She looked carefully if anypony was in the targeted location, before gently dropping her hooves away from the houses. The other two then followed, leaving Ponyville and its occupants a little safer. With the field clearer, Rainbow was finally able to reach Twilight’s castle in just two strides. She began to sit down, trying to place her flank on the ground as gently as possible and to move her tail away from the houses as not to hide the sun to the other ponies. The castle was five times smaller than her; her shadow was enough to plunge it into darkness in broad daylight. She also noticed that her growth had finally stopped: now five hundred times bigger than her original size. Twilight Sparkle was immersed in reading a complicated book when the shadow rose over the entire castle. She couldn’t read anymore because it was so dark and she looked out from the balcony to see if the weather suddenly became cloudy. To her big surprise, she didn’t see the sky, but sky blue everywhere. That hue seemed to move a little, and she made out a huge multicolored bolt of lightning that was well over six stories high. Rightly guessing that it wasn’t a very large poster but a certain pony, she rushed to the front door. Outside, she was greeted by a huge blue mass, Rainbow Dash’s face really getting lost in the heights this time. Right in front of her, Rainbow’s four sitting hooves looked like huge structures: one of Rainbow’s hoof soles was fifty times bigger than Twilight who was just an ant compared to it. Rainbow began to lie down, her head getting closer to the ground. Her flank now faced the castle and was higher than it by twice its height. Twilight was about to take off to reach Rainbow’s ears and be able to communicate with her, however something tapped her hoof. Looking down, she saw to her astonishment Angel, Fluttershy’s white rabbit. He wasn’t very tall; a single hoof was already enough to lift the small animal. Angel pointed to an area on his back. Twilight squinted and made out a small yellow speck on it. It looked like a piece of fluff, but looking at it closely, it was actually Fluttershy, miniaturized to the size of a flea. She’d come all the way from her cottage on the back of her rabbit with that size? Fluttershy spread her wings and made her way to Twilight. Remaining motionless, the purple alicorn realized that the pegasus was heading towards her ear. Twilight took the opportunity to cast a voice amplifier spell to listen to her friend better. She lowered hers on the same process. “Twilight? Can you hear me?” Fluttershy asked once she reached inside her ear. “Yes Fluttershy, what’s going on? Why are you so small?” “Oh, I’ve shrunk to help tiny companions that I couldn’t help until now. But now everything is fine, the colony is doing better.” Ok, Fluttershy looked like taking care of the bugs now, Twilight thought. “Then the ground started to vibrate and shake a lot! In the heat of the moment, I climbed on top of Angel who was supposed to take me to the source of these tremors. I was all excited like a flea and I didn’t think about growing back, to be honest.” It was the case to say so. “But Twilight, where do these earthquakes come from? And what’s all that blue around you?” “That blue, that’s Rainbow, she’s grown again and it’s even worse than last time!” “Oh no!” Fluttershy exclaimed. “I know she doesn’t like it, we need to get her shrunk as soon as possible!” With that, Twilight took off and flew over the blue giantess. She reached the inside of her ear and cast her voice amplifier spell to make herself better heard. “Rainbow? It’s Twilight. Hang on, we’re going to get you back to your normal size!” “Make it quick! It’s a real nightmare!” Like last time, Rainbow Dash had curled up with her hooves crossed, trying to occupy as little space as possible. She never thought she’d have to face this ordeal like that again. “I’m going to cast a spell to make her shrink, get ready Fluttershy!” Twilight concentrated her magic in her horn, which began to glow. Releasing the spell after a few seconds, an aura applied to Rainbow’s entire body before dissipating. There seemed to be no effect. “Shoot, it doesn’t work,” the alicorn pointed out. “Fluttershy, could you make her shrink like last time?” “Okay Twilight,” Fluttershy agreed. “Stay in my ear though and shrink me with Rainbow. I think it would be safer for you since you’re already so tiny.” “Alright!” Fluttershy began to focus on shrinking beyond a thousandth of her size. It seemed to work, as the world grew bigger around them. However, instead of remaining stable from their point of view, Rainbow’s body seemed to grow even more. The opposite effect of what they expected was happening right before their eyes. One of Rainbow’s hooves had come close to crushing Twilight’s castle like a mere pebble. “It doesn’t work either,” Twilight advised. Make us grow again.” Fluttershy gave Twilight her normal size back. This time, Rainbow seemed to shrink, regaining her height towering over the castle by only a few hundred feet. “Oh, wait. Fluttershy, would you like to make us grow a little more?” Twilight gained about thirty feet and Rainbow seemed to shrink in size again. Her hooves only reached the first balcony of the castle now. “Fluttershy, I feel like there was a peculiar magical phenomenon the last time you both grew during the accident. Rainbow Dash seems to react to your changes in size, but always the other way around. Kind of like an equivalent exchange. When you shrink, she grows and vice versa. My magic really shouldn’t work like that normally, it’s like you two share a special bond… When was the last time you changed your size, other than this morning?” “Since the accident, I haven’t used my power until today indeed. So, if I understand correctly, I need to get back to my normal size for Rainbow to regain hers?” “Exactly!” “Okay,” Fluttershy agreed, closing her eyes. “All that’s left to do is… No, Fluttershy, don’t make me grow with you, you might… Wah!” A few seconds later, Fluttershy opened her eyes. She was back to her original size right in front of the entrance of the castle, and Rainbow was right next to her at her original size as well, still shaking from her experience. The yellow pegasus hurried to her friend to reassure her. “Rainbow, we did it, you can open your eyes now.” Rainbow did open her eyes and found Fluttershy next to her, the castle towering over them. “Oh thanks Fluttershy, I couldn’t stand being that heavy and immobile! But… why is it so dark?” With that, they turned their heads to the same side, noticing a sort of large purple wall blocking their view. It was actually Twilight’s hind hoof that almost towered above the castle on its own. It wriggled a little, the tip of the hoof trying not to touch the small edifice, also showing Twilight’s lack of confidence in her gigantic form. “Fluttershy? Can you make me shrink? I think I replaced Rainbow…” “Oops!” Fluttershy joined the giant alicorn over five hundred times her size and quickly set to work. Taking into account the latest explanations from Twilight, she took special precautions before shrinking. Instead, she preferred to grow first. Gradually, she grew to Twilight’s size. Rainbow Dash, meanwhile, felt herself shrinking to no bigger than an insect. That suited her much better. It wasn’t until she became a giant that Fluttershy began to shrink Twilight with her, and everypony regained their original sizes. Following these events, Fluttershy invited Rainbow to her home at the cottage for the evening. “I’m sorry Rainbow,” the yellow pegasus apologized. “I shoudn’t have shrunk so much this morning, I didn’t know it would affect you from that far.” “Don’t worry about it, nopony could have guessed after all. I even blamed Pinkie’s pastries at first!” “Speaking of pastries, could you get all the ingredients in the kitchen to bake a cake? I’m sure all of that has whetted your appetite.” Fluttershy wasn’t wrong, Rainbow’s belly was already protesting with a few gurgles. “Okay, consider it done!” “I’m joining you right after I’ve made sure everyone is back in their pens…” Rainbow Dash entered the house while Fluttershy was looking at the chicken coop and checking if no more animals were left outside with nowhere to sleep. Observing that everything was perfect, Fluttershy pretended to walk towards her home before stopping after only a few steps. A thought came to her mind. Rainbow Dash would surely have a bad memory of this day, and she couldn’t help but feel partly responsible in some way. She had known Rainbow’s likings for some time, and one of her thoughts suggested to somewhat reverse the mood of the evening. At least, she could still please her friend in some way. Fluttershy trotted away at a resolute pace to a larger part of her domain. In the kitchen, Rainbow had prepared a few pots and pans, chocolate and eggs. She was looking for a small bag of flour and finally opened the right cupboard a little higher up. Raising her hoof, she did not seem to be able to reach it strangely. So, she used her wings to reach the flour, but the bag suddenly felt heavier and bulkier, causing her to fall and spill the content of the bag. The flour spouted all over the room and Rainbow opened her eyes again after rubbing them. She noticed that the small bag was now up to her size: she was completely covered in flour and as small as a tenth of her original size. Angel, who had heard the noise, came to see what was going on. Given her diminutive size, Rainbow looked almost like a little white rabbit next to him. It was kind of weird, but Rainbow enjoyed being so small after everything that happened. And she also guessed to whom she owed this. The kitchen had become a little darker for some reason. Exiting the house, the mini-Rainbow joined the backyard of the cottage. There, she saw a pegasus ten times bigger than usual, but a hundred times taller than she was. She had laid down and was watching Rainbow landing on her flank, right next to her huge Cutie Mark. Rainbow Dash looked very small to her, similar to the size of a ladybug on her coat. She could discern her delighted look. It was enough to make Fluttershy happier. Indeed, in order for Rainbow Dash to shrink, she now had to grow herself to enormous proportions. Although she was insecure at first when she had grown to this extent, she had gradually become accustomed to it, and was even beginning to enjoy becoming so tall. She liked to shrink too, but the feeling of insecurity that came with that size still embarrassed her a bit. When she was a giantess, Fluttershy felt much stronger and safer, she also wanted to make good use of her very big size to protect those who counted the most for her. Becoming gigantic was now a pleasure, as she wanted to see the world from a littler higher without the risk of falling. At least, as long as the glances weren’t directed at her either. So the end of the day was particularly conducive for her to grow, and it seemed to please Rainbow too. “Fluttershy, you’re super cool,” Rainbow said as she laid down comfortably on her coat. Fluttershy blushed a little and focused again on these words. She began to grow again, and Rainbow was shrinking in the process. Soon, her hoof was several dozen feet higher than her house as she had grown so much. Rainbow Dash had become completely invisible, hidden within her fur, like being a part of her universe. It was feeling nice, finally the cake should wait a bit. As night set in, everypony dozed off quietly. And two ponies, in particular, dreamed of small and big adventures together.
