Rara's New Life
Chapter 31 - A Last Minute Change
Previous ChapterNext ChapterIt's been 2 weeks since Mike and Rara returned from Belgium. Since then, they went on another date, got to hang out with Rara's old backup dancers for some bowling, and even recorded another song for their upcoming tour. Right now though, they were getting ready to head back to Earth for Mike's next race. But it wasn't just any race, it was the greatest spectacle in racing; the Indy 500. One of Mike's NASCAR friends, Kyle Larson, was competing in that race and he wanted nothing more than to get there and spend some time with him. Mike and Rara were also getting ready to pack their stuff in Rara's bedroom, as they're move to their new home in Miami was only 2 months away.
Meanwhile, in Sapphire Shores' office, Sapphire was getting ready to leave and head back home for the night. She turned off the light and was just about to exit the door, when suddenly, the telephone rang. "Oh!" She sighed in frustration. "Who could that be at this time." She turned the light back on, sat down on her chair, and answered the phone. "Manehattan Records, Sapphire Shores speaking."
There was a long silence as Sapphire's eyes suddenly went wide eyed at the news that was re-laid to her on the phone. "Right."
"Right, I understand."
"Thank you."
Sapphire hung up the phone and sighed before picking up the phone again and dialing a number.
In Rara's bedroom, Mike and Rara just put down some moving boxes and got ready to pack some stuff, when suddenly, Mike's cell phone rang. "It's Sapphire," Mike said before he answered the call. "Hello?"
Rara watched with interest as Mike talked to Sapphire on the phone for a few minutes. "Alright, we're on our way," Mike said before he hung up the phone."
"What's going on?" Asked Rara.
"Sapphire has something urgent to tell us," Mike answered.
Wasting no time, the two headed out to the streets.
In Sapphire's office, Mike and Rara sat down in front of Sapphire's desk as she began addressing them. "I'm glad you two can make it," said Sapphire.
"Sapphire, what's going on?" Asked Rara.
Sapphire sighed. "I just received a phone call from Mark Miles and Roger Penske."
"The CEO of IndyCar and the owner of Indianapolis Motor Speedway?" Asked Mike.
"Yes," answered Sapphire. "It's about Jim Cornelison. I'm afraid there's been an accident." Mike and Rara's eyes suddenly went wide before Sapphire continued. "He was in a car accident on an Indiana state road and had to be taken to the hospital. Fortunately, he's alright, but he suffered a broken leg and therefore will not be performing the 'Back Home Again in Indiana' song at the Indy 500 this year."
Mike sighed. "Well, there goes half of the motorsports fanbase, now that one of the biggest Indy 500 traditions is gone for this year," he said.
"Not quite," said Sapphire.
"What do you mean?" Asked Mike.
"They want to keep that tradition, so therefore, they want a replacement, or a substitute, if you will." Sapphire then looked at Rara. "They want YOU to be Jim Cornelison's substitute," she said while pointing at Rara.
"WHAT?! Me?" Rara asked in shock.
"Yes," said Sapphire.
"B-b-b-but I don't know that song," Rara said in desperation. "I haven't even heard it!"
"Rara, calm down!" Cried Mike. "I'll teach you."
Rara calmed herself down and took a deep breath before sitting back down. "Okay, just tell me all about 'Back Home Again in Indiana'."
"It's an old song that was first sang in the Indy 500 by Jim Nabors. Jim Cornelison took over singing duties in 2019 after Nabors left due to his old age," explained Mike. "It's a very short song, so learning it should be fairly quick."
"Even so, do you think you're up to the task?" Asked Sapphire.
"Oh, I know she is," said Mike. "In fact, I know just the right ponies who can help us."
The next morning, down in the recording studio, Rara's backup dancers were goofing around. Prance was in the booth with Star Dancer, Rock Blast, Beat Box, and Style Light. While Night Shades and Disco Fever were on the stage, getting ready for some kind of stand off.
"Alright Night, if I win this fight, you're gonna stop being the pervert that you are," said Disco.
"Okay, but if I win, you're gonna have to find me some single mares for me to mingle with," said Night Shades. "Deal?"
"Deal," Disco replied before pointing to the stallions in the recording booth. "Alright Prance, you know what to do; DANCE FIGHT!!!"
"HIT IT!!!" Shouted Night Shades as Prance immediately began playing a song.

The two stallions began their dance fight with one stallion having not being able to outmatch the other. Needless to say, their equal fight techniques made the fight rather pathetic. Prance and the others could do nothing but chuckle or laugh at the pathetic display that the two stallions were displaying. However, as the song came to an end, Night Shades suddenly kicked Disco in the gut, knocking him a few feet back. "GAME OVER!!!" Night Shades laughed before Disco suddenly revealed something that shocked him.
"Is this what you're looking for?" He asked smugly.
"NO!!!" Night Shades cried. But before anything could happen, the door opened. The stallions all gasped as they saw who was entering the studio.
"Mike. Rara. What are you two doing here?" Asked Prance.
"We need your help," said Rara as Mike began explaining the entire situation to them.
"Whoa, so it seems like you'll be performing in front of a live audience for the first time since Svengallop's firing this weekend," said Disco.
"Yeah, pretty much," said Mike.
Rara then began to address her former backup dancers. "Listen, Mike has shown me the song countless times last night, and it is a pretty beautiful song if I say so myself. But this song has been a long standing tradition in the Indy 500. Which is why we need your help in providing backup vocals for the song."
The stallions all looked at each other before they all smiled and nodded at Rara. "Don't worry. We'll do it," said Style Light.
"You will?" Asked Rara.
"Of course. We'll do anything for you to get your career back going again in your tour," Prance proclaimed.
"Then let's not waste anymore time," said Mike.
"Right," said Rara. "Come on everypony, we only have 3 more days before the race itself, so let's get to it," Rara shouted as she clapped her hands together.
To Be Continued.
