Alien vs Predator: Equestria
Book signings and the sighting
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThe sky was bright and sunny over Canterlot, the capital city of Equestria. The streets were bustling from activity from the many ponies walking around, enjoying a stroll through the streets or stopping at the many shops lining the sidewalks. Everything seemed normal for the many citizens of the great capital. Today, however, there was a lot more ponies than usual in the Canterlot courtyard.
A large number of ponies of all ages were formed in a very long line on the grass. Every single one of them had a book in which they carried in their hooves or in a bag on their side. Some ponies were simply reading the book they had to kill time, while others were hopping up and down uncontrollably from excitement as they slowly crept forward in the slow moving mass. The line stretched over 300 ponies long, leading to a table set in the middle of the field.
At the table sat a female Pegasus with a sandy brown coat. Her mane and tail consisted of several different shades of gray. Besides the compass rose cutie mark she sported on her flank, she wore a green khaki vest over her upper back. Her gray and green safari hat was placed on the side of the table next to another pile of books, which all had her picture on the front.
She was perhaps one of the most famous Pegasus in Equestria because of one simple series. She was the greatest archeologist to have ever lived in the last fifty years. Her name was one that every pony had heard at least once in their life.
She was the great.
The brave.
She was…
“Daring Do! Oh wow, it is so great to finally meet you!” A young pink unicorn yelled out, slamming his book on the table.
Daring Do smiled back at the filly, pulling the book towards her, seeing the cover “Daring Do and the Quest for the Sapphire Stone”. Daring tried to keep her smile on, despite the thoughts going through her head, ‘great, she has read the first story to a bunch of different lies.’
Not wanting to disappoint the happy unicorn, she flips open the book and signs the first page. After she was done, she closed the cover and hands it back, “here we go, and I’m glad you enjoyed the story.” The unicorn squealed in delight as she levitated the book and ran off, cheering out her accomplishment. Seeing children happy did always make Daring happy.
Another pony walked up to the table, a middle teen earth pony. He pulled out his copy of the book, handing it over to the explorer, “Miss Do, could I ask you a question?” saying it in a quiet, almost embarrassed tone.
Daring smiled at him, “sure, what is it?”
“I heard that you will be going on an expedition to the desert soon. Is that true?”
Daring felt a spark of warmth inside of her; this was the first pony of the day to ask her about what she really did, “Why, yes I am. I will be looking for-“
“OH! Awesome!” the young male cut her off, now yelling out in excitement, “When will that story come out!?”
The little spark sizzled in Daring’s chest, seeing that this pony was no different from the rest. Frowning, she pulled the book closer and signed the page, “You’ll just have to wait and see.” She said with a small hint of frustration.
The pony smiled, grabbing his copy and moving out of the way. Glancing up, Daring shouts out a word she had lost count of using that day, “Next.”

As the day went on, Daring Do could feel her head becoming sore from so many cheers, books and questions thrown her way. Every time a pony came up to the table, Daring felt her eyes become heavier from a mix of boredom and annoyance. None of these ponies cared about her real career; all that they wanted was their fake adventure stories signed, or some snapping a quick photo of Daring Do.
She never enjoyed these book signings she attended. She didn’t even write the stories, but the author knew that people would rather see the character the books are based on than the pony that wrote them. Not wanting to make the many fans of her stories upset, she would force herself through the days of autographs and shoving from all ponies following her tales.
Some towns she didn’t mind visiting since there was only a small number of fans, but she always despised having to come to Canterlot; the wave of excited fans seem to never end, always growing from more and more ponies showing up. She could feel her hoof getting sore from so much writing from that day, and she still had another two hours of signing.
She began to drift into a dreamlike state as she automatically signed the incoming books. Her head began thinking of being in a quiet temple, looking for old artifacts. Places like that was where she truly enjoyed being instead of a crowded city.
Her daydream was all of a sudden broken from an enormous thud from a tall stack of books slamming into the table, “What the-”
The pile stood nine books tall, all different stories of her. From behind the pile came the head of a cyan Pegasus with a bright rainbow colored mane. The females bright eyes gleemed in excitement at Daring, making her a little uncomfortable, “Uh, hi there…” Daring forced out with an awkward smile.
“Ohmygoshohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh!” the blue Pegasus blurted rapidly, “I can’t believe I am actually meeting Daring Do!”
Daring couldn’t hold back the shocked look on her face from this crazy mare. She had seen excited ponies before, but this one topped the barrel. She tried to smile again, but had a very hard time doing it, “So, uhh… you read my adventures I see.”
“Oh yes I do! I am like, your biggest fan ever!” the hyper mare was now leaning over the table in Darings face.
"Uhh, thank you... so, ill sign your book and-"
"Which Adventure was your favorite!?"
Daring was getting flustered now, "Look, i can't answer all-"
"Was it the the Griffons Goblet?"
"Listen, I-"
"How about the Jewels of the Jungle!?"
"Your holding up the li-"
"Oh, i know! Yours was the Dragon of-"
"STOP!" Daring shouted out of frustration, "If i sign your books, will you leave? The line is being held up."
The once rambling pegasus was now upset her idol couldn't talk, "Fine."
Daring sighed as she flipped open the books one at a time, signing each one. After she was done, she shoved the stack of books back to the rainbow maned phsyco across from her, "Here are you books."
"Awesome!" The mare screamed as she lifted the pile up and took off into the skies.
Daring sat for a moment after that, rubbing the sides of her head with her hooves, 'What do these books do to these ponies?'

"I can't believe it! i got Daring Do's autograph!" Rainbow Dash cheered at the dining table in the Canterlot shooping plaza.
"Yes Rainbow, Y'all told us ten times already." Applejack said from across the table, rolling her eyes out of annoyance.
Rainbow glared over at her country friend, "Hey, what gives? this is such a big deal for me!"
"Ahm just sayin' that y'all might take these books here a little too serious."
Rainbow cast a grin towards the orange earth pony, "Just because you can't read doesn't mean i shouldn't enjoy these totally awesome adventures!"
"Hey! Ya know ah can read! i just don't read as much." Applejack frowned away from the table.
"Girls, come on, lets stop this." The purple unicorn to the side said, "There is no reason to fight over something like his." Twilight Sparkle was a little upset with Rainbow too, though.
Rainbow had heard that Daring Do was doing a book signing in Canterlot, and had tried to convince all of her friends to come along with her. The only ones she could were Twilight and Applejack since the others were too busy. Once getting to the City, Rainbow told them to just wait for her at a small cafe while she did the signing so they could enjoy the city together. However, she didn't tell them that the signing would take over four hours to do, making them wait at the resteraunt the whole time.
When Rainbow finally did return back to the two of them, she never stopped talking about how she met the greatest pony ever. All she did was flip through every one of the books she had and gazed at the signatures on the front pages of each novel. She had never been happier in her entire life.
Twilight sighed as her cyan friend squeeked every time she saw the signatures. She had known Rainbow was a fan of Daring Do, but she had no idea it was this intense. Looking up to the clock tower above them, she realized how late it was, and perhaps it was best to just head back to Ponyville. Getting up from the table, she stretched her sore legs from sitting on the metal chair for so long. She looked over to Applejack, seeing that she was tired as well, "You girls ready to head back home?"
Applejack gave a glance to Twilight, "Eeyup, ah think ahm done with this place."
Rainbow stopped flipping through her pages after hearing her friends, "What? your ready to leave!? I wanted to go check out the wonderbolts training field before we left."
Applejack shot a glare at Rainbow, "Ah think ya have had yer fill of choices for the day."
"Yeah, I have to agree with Applejack on this one..." twilight frowned in Rainbows direction, "sitting here all day waiting for you has made us a little tired."
Rainbow rolled her eyes and gathered up the books from the table. Standing up, the two mares began to follow Twilight towards the Canterlot train station. Suddenly, a loud roar blasted through the air, causing every pony to cringe from the powerful soundwave. Every pony in the street stopped what they were doing and looked up to where the strange sound was coming from. What they saw made many scream in panic.
Applejack nearly fainted at what she saw, "what in tarnation is that!?"
A large object was racing through the sky above Canterlot. It appeared to be a large metal object with large things sticking out the side, like wings. Streaks of smoke and fire appeared to becoming out of the back of the structure.
Rainbow dropped the books as she stated in shock to what was passing over them, "wha-what is that thing!?"
"I don't know!" Twilight quickly answered. She had no idea what was happening.
The object continued to fly across the sky in a steep decline towards the ground. It began to crash through the large trees in the distance before finally hitting the ground with a large bang.
Twilight, Rainbow and Applejack stared in disbelief at what had just happened. They all stared at the smoke rising miles away from the other side of the Everfree forest where the unknown thing landed. Twilight finally shook herself free of her nerves and looked up to the royal palace at the top of the city.
If any pony knew what happened, it would be Princess Celestia.
