Eternally Loved

Celestia made her way down towards her sister's room as the many clocks in the castle started chirping their midnight call. She didn't normally stay up to this hour, but it was important that she see her sister this night. She kept her pace even and held her head high as she walked, but her heart was heavy with doubt and fear for what would come once the night was over.
When she rounded the last corner, she found the two guards that were normally posted outside her sister's room, were now eyeing the doors warily. As she approached, one of them caught sight of her and, after a quick jab to his partner, they both quickly took more sentry-like stances.
“Your majesty!” They stated simultaneously, throwing a hoof up in salute.
She took a look at the large blue twin doors that concealed Luna's bedroom, silently wondering what made them drop their guard. “Is my sister still asleep?”
They glanced at each other, then one said, “I believe so your majesty.”
She nodded in understanding, having figured that Luna might have gone back to sleep after raising the moon. “I wish to talk with my sister, so I will wait for her to wake.” She said to the two guards, giving them a benevolent smile. “You may both turn in for the night.”
They both looked at the door, then back to her, and nodded. “Yes, your majesty.”
They took off down the hall, and, as they turned the corner, Celestia approached the doors. She hesitated somewhat before them, the rational part of her mind begging her to go back to bed and forget this, but her will held out. This was important, she knew, and had to be done.
With some skillful use of magic, she opened one of the azure doors without making a sound, and entered the dark room. After closing the door behind her, the light from the hall faded, and now only the white light of the moon illuminated the room through the balcony window. The soft glow coated the room’s surfaces in a silver glaze and allowed her to see where she was walking for the most part. It also let her see the small bulge that was her sleeping sister, in the large bed at the other end of the room.
It had been a few months since her sister had finally returned to her. Luna went through a lot, recovering from her time in banishment. She would often sleep through much of the day, and even her own night sometimes, still recovering from the effects of the Elements. They had saved Luna, cleansing her of the evil inside her, but leaving her in a weakened state. She didn't like to talk about what she’d gone through over the last thousand years, so Celestia avoided the subject to avoid causing her any more discomfort.
After all, it was her fault it happened.
“Sister...”
For a second she thought that Luna had woken up, but, as she entered further into the room, found her to still be asleep. She could now see the blue alicorn tossing in her bed, the covers messily scattered and tangled around her, and hear small whimpering coming from the sheets.
“Why won't you look at us?”
Now that she was close enough to see clearly in the low light of the room, she could see tears on Luna's cheeks, reflecting in the silvery light.
“We're sorry. So sorry...”
Celestia’s throat tightened as she heard her sister crying out for her in her sleep. She was suppose to protect her sister from these things, and it broke her heart to know that she was the cause of them.
“Please... please don't leave. Its so cold... so lonely...”
Celestia couldn't stand to see her sister in such a state, and came up to the bed, gently scooping her restless form up in her hooves.
“No Luna. I won't leave you. Never again. I'll always be here for you.”
Luna's eyes slowly opened from the sudden movement, both glazed with tears. She looked somewhat surprised to see her sister but still gladly threw herself at the white alicorn, seeking her embrace.
“Sister!” The dark mare cried as she latched onto the white alicorn beside her, burying her face in the comforting warmth. Celestia unfurled one of her large white wings and wrapped it around the blue alicorn like a blanket. Even though she had just woken up from her rough sleep, she already had tears pouring from her eyes.
“Shh... Shh...it’s okay.” Celestia cooed softly as she ran a hoof through her sister's mane, working through it in long, slow strokes. “I'm here.”
Each stroke brought out another hiccup or sob from the smaller pony as she held her tightly against her body, wrapping a white wing around her shaking form. Luna wept into her sister's white fur, matting it with tears. If Celestia found it to be uncomfortable, she didn't show it.
After a while under her older sister's ministrations, Luna began to get her breathing under control, and stop her tears somewhat. Even her violent shaking had slowed down and disappeared in the soothing hold of the white alicorn.
“It was only a dream. You're not there anymore, you’re home now.”
“We know, sister. But... it... it hurts so much sometimes.” Another sob worked its way through her, hooves still tight around her sister's neck. “When Nightmare Moon lost, she vanished into the recesses of our mind and hid herself until the end. She gave us back control of our body... ”
“We were conscious for every moment of our imprisonment! For a thousand years there was nopony! We were alone!” More tears filled the midnight alicorn's eyes as her empty memories of the thousand year void rushed back to her. Celestia just held her tighter in an attempt at consolation.
“I'm sorry Luna. I know it was hard, going through that, but I promise I will make it up to you...”
She lowered her muzzle down to nuzzle against her sister's lovingly and drew back a bit so that she could look into her eyes, only a few inches between them. “You never have to feel lonely again Luna...” She finished, closing the last of the space between them and capturing her sister's lips in a tender kiss.
Luna's body went rigid as her sister pressed her lips against hers. Thoughts becoming like puddy as every nerve in her twitched at the contact. Part of her was disgusted and instantly repulsed by the action, knowing that it was wrong on a fundamental level. But a deeper part of her was surprised by how soft Celestia’s lips felt pressed against hers. She was so shocked by the sudden kiss that she panicked and pushed her sister away, breaking contact.
Celestia didn't put up any resistance and let Luna push her away, also shocked by her actions. “I...” She began, trying to explain, but, at seeing the shocked and slightly scared look on her sister's face, she couldn't finish. She hadn't meant to frighten her. She just wanted to show Luna that she cared. And because of an unthinking impulse, she destroyed her one chance to properly explain herself. She turned away, unable to look her in the eyes any longer.
Luna was still spinning from what had just happened. She brought a hoof to her lips, still feeling her sister's pressed against them, velvety and warm.
“Why... Why did you kiss us...?” she asked quietly, confused and conflicted.
“Because I love you...” The reply hinting at nothing about the emotional status of the white alicorn before her. “More than one should love their sister.”
Luna 's cheeks reddened. Never before had she caught any hints of incestuous feelings towards her, so why now, all of a sudden? What had changed? “And how long have you... loved us like this?”
“I have loved you this way for a long time Luna.” She admitted, a touch of sadness in her voice. “I loved you like this long before our seperation, even when we were still fillies, I’ve always thought of you this way.”
“W-what? That can't be...”
“It’s true.” Celestia said, finally turned to face her. No longer able to hold herself together, both of her wings sagged towards the floor, and her head hung low as tears fell from her cheeks to the padded carpet below. "I love you Luna."
She’d dealt with this by herself for most of her life, never talking to others or being able to let out all the frustration and sadness, and it had taken its toll on her. But now she could finally let it out, and with it, all the pent up agony from countless years of repression.
“But you would barely even show yourself around us! If you cared about us as much as you say, then why? Why did you avoid us?” Luna said, tears once again welling in her eyes. “You never cared before... so why now...?”
“I have always cared for you." Celestia said as though it were a terrible lie to say otherwise. "I ignored you because I couldn't deal with my feelings around you. I didn't want to let you find out and ruin what we already had together.” She began to shake, much like her sister had not long ago, as she cried out, “But in doing so I left you alone when you needed me most! I should have been there for you all those years ago. Before you returned, I wished every day that I would have done things differently.”
She clenched her teeth together in frustration of her past mistakes, more tears streaming down her face. “So I decided that I wouldn't make the same mistake twice. Now that I have another chance, I would rather let you know, and have you find me disgusting, than lose you for another thousand years!”
As she finished, Luna could only stare at the alicorn before her, utterly speechless. It was a rare occurrence to see her older sister crying openly in front of another, but seeing Celestia in such a miserable state made her heart ache.
“You aren't disgusting sister, we're actually flattered that you find us... attractive.” The words caused Celestia to look at her. “But... But we are sisters. We must find others to love, not each other. It’s wrong to have feelings like these.” Luna had hoped that her words would ring true to her sister, but as soon as she said them, more tears formed in the white alicorn’s eyes.
“I’ve tried... I tried so hard. For more than a thousand years I tried to find somepony else to love so that I wouldn't have to bring this on you...” Her mind raced through the past and all the ponies she met. “But everypony I met had a clock inside them. Slowly ticking away every second to their inevitable deaths. I would always be left alone in the end no matter who I chose.”
“But you are still here, even after everypony else has gone, even after a thousand years, you remain.” She smiled fondly at her younger sister, eyes glazed with tears. “You are all I have, Luna. No matter who I try to fall in love or find happiness with, in the end they will all vanish from this world, and I will live my life in endless sorrow. But you are like me, bound to unending life.”
“I love you Luna. I'll love you forever my beloved sister. I won't ask you to return my feelings, but please don't call them wrong when they're my only chance at an eternity of happiness.”
“Is that the only reason? Because our long life?” she whispered, but Celestia just chuckled sadly.
“Didn't I tell you already? You were the first pony I ever loved. Even as foals I was always watching over and protecting you. As we grew older I couldn't help but look at you as a mare, rather than a sister, and I knew that I loved you much more than a sibling should.”
“I waited a thousand years to tell you, and I will wait a million more for you to accept my love. No... I would wait forever for you, Luna. It’s not that you’re the only pony I can love, it’s that you’re the only pony I do love. You will always hold a place in my heart, sister. You mean more to me than any other.”
A long silence followed once Celestia had finished speaking, and, as it wore on, she began to despair that her sister thought ill of her words. She anticipated Luna would likely reject her. It would hurt, it would hurt a lot, but she could handle it on her own time and hide the sorrow that would follow. She just wanted to have this all be over already instead of dragging it out.
“Do... Do you really mean that?” Came a quiet whisper from the blue alicorn.
Celestia's eyes widened, and she looked up to find her sister looking away, blushing heavily.
“W- We... we never really loved another before...” She said, bringing her eyes to her sister’s, and then quickly away. “But... we do love you, sister. Maybe not to the same degree, but...” She brought her voice so low that Celestia almost missed the last few words. “We would be willing to try...”
Celestia began to tear up, new hope rising in her. “You mean...”
Luna nodded in response, but her eyes remained averted.
Celestia's mouth hung open in disbelief. Luna was willing to give her a chance. Even with how wrong it was for them to do this, she would still give her feelings a try. She quickly drew her sister close and hugged her tightly, feeling happier than she had ever been. “I promise you won't regret it. I'll never let you feel lonely again. I will always love you my sweet, sweet sister.”
Luna remained still as her sister held her. It didn't feel real, almost like she was still dreaming. She wouldn't be surprised if she woke up any minute now.
“Others... wouldn't find this type of relationship between us very agreeable. Many of our subjects would probably oppose it, and cause trouble down the road.” She said, giving a last line of defense against changing her mind.
“I couldn't care less what others think of our relationship. The only pony's feelings that matter to me on this are yours. I will give you my love for as long as you're willing to accept it.”
Luna could feel her heart beating wildly inside her as her head became muddled with incoherent thoughts. She knew what she was about to do was wrong in a basic sense, but her sister was right. For those that had to live their whole lives watching everyone around them wither and die, why not take a chance at having a love that could last?
Eventually she felt her sister loosen her grip and pulled away, looking at her with a loving smile.
“Could you...” She began feeling nervous under her sister’s intense gaze. “Could you kiss us again...?” She asked, rubbing her hooves together nervously and blushing furiously through her dark coat.
Without a word, Celestia gently lifted her face with a hoof and pressed their lips together much like before, but this time, Luna slowly began to return it. She felt a tear of happiness roll down her cheek as her love that had gone unknown for so long was returned.
The blue alicorn was a little startled when she felt her sister's soft tongue work its way into her mouth and start flicking hers playfully. After a while, she dared to try and return the movement, and was quickly swept up in a passionate dance with her sister's wet muscle.
It wasn't a lie when Luna said that she didn't love her sister as a mare. In the past, though, as a filly, she used to wonder what it would be like to love her sister this way. It was only a passing phase, and it did fade away with time, but now, with her sister kissing her like this, she could feel the old desires that had taken root begin to come alive again. The want to love and be loved by her big sister in every way possible.
They stayed tightly locked together as Celestia started to move her hooves over her sister's neck and wings, slowly trailing over her barrel, caressing each part of Luna’s body gently. She broke away to start planting little kisses over her sister's face and neck as the blue alicorn panted from her lack of breath.
Luna groaned as Celestia nibbled on one of her ears, a normally playful gesture now given a more intimate meaning. She could feel heat beginning to build up between her legs and started to rub them together subconsciously.
Celestia noticed her sister's subtle shifting of her legs and moved so that she was laying parallel beside the dark mare, but inverted, her head now facing the midnight blue flank. She started stroking her sister's rear, admiring it for its firm build and soft curves.
“You know, you really do have a beautiful flank, sister.”
“O-Our flank?!” She squeaked out.
“I have to be honest. I had some rather impure thoughts of it when I was walking behind you as we retire to our rooms from dinner last night. Your tail barely covering your filly parts and your flank swaying from side to side as you walked.” She was slowly caressing Luna’s back-end with her hooves, drawing circles around the cutie mark, but leaving it untouched.
Luna blushed heavily as, what used to be a innocent memory, became something not so innocent.
“You really should control your ethereal tail better, I swear sometimes you would keep it floating high on purpose just to tease me.”
“W-we never intended t- ah!”
Luna couldn't finish her sentence as Celestia licked her cutie mark, drawing out gasp from her which turned into a needful groan. Her sister carefully worked over her haunches, causing a tremendous heat to well up inside her. But right as her heat had hit an unbearable level, she felt her sister's hooves move away from her as she stood up and left the bed.
“Well I guess I should be going sister. You must still be tired and I wouldn't want to keep you from your sleep any longer.”
Celestia turned to go, hiding her smirk at the expression her sister made when she said that. She didn't make it halfway to the door before her sister called out.
“Wait! Don't just leave us like this!”
The white alicorn turned around and gave an innocent look. “Like what Luna?” She knew what she meant of course, how could she not? She could smell it in the air, the heavy scent of her sister's arousal, she just couldn't resist the urge to tease her a little.
“It aches sister, please...” Luna's ears were pinned back and her mouth was slightly open, hot pants coming from her.
Celestia approached her sister once more and started rubbing her hooves over her in various places. Luna grunted and whined as her sister deliberately avoided her problem area. Celestia could see the pleading look in her sister's eyes, begging her to help.
“Where does it hurt Luna? I need to know so I can sooth it and make it feel better.” She whispered sweetly.
Luna continued whimpering in distress, choosing not to talk, but her tail twitched as if flagging attention to the burning occurring in her loins.
“Oh, I see...”
Celestia moved to her sister's haunches exceptionally slowly, much to Luna's misery, and carefully ducked under the dark, sparkling tail; she could see now that her lips were badly irritated and inflamed. It surprised her that she had caused such a large buildup of heat, she had only meant to leave her slightly bothered.
“Oh my... I’m sorry Luna, I seem to have neglected you.” She uttered softly, giving her flank gentle strokes with a hoof. “Do not worry though, your big sister will make it feel better.”
She knew that she would be taking her sister's purity, but she would also be giving her something of equal value in return; her love. Without a second thought she buried herself between the dark blue cheeks, flicking her tongue over her sister's pink marehood, and tasting her for the first time. Celestia quickly found that loved the taste and began to lick it as if she were eating a sweet dessert.
Luna couldn't believe what her sister was saying, or, for that matter, what she was doing. Even though she’d missed a thousand years she still knew these incestuous desires were wrong. Celestia withdrew her muzzle from her sister's flank, licking her lips as she stood up. She had a smile plastered on her face along with a good amount of sticky liquid.
“You taste wonderful Luna. Sweet, like honey.”
Luna's face heated up from such a brazen statement from her normally serious sister. Just as she dared to peek back, a bright flash illuminated the room with golden light. But it only lasted a second before the light vanished and the room fell back to darkness.
“Sister, what was...” Luna began, but was interrupted as Celestia caught her in another kiss; the fact that she could taste herself on her sister's lips arousing her even further.
“Just giving us some privacy dear sister.” Now that no one would hear them she had no reason to hold back. She wanted to make her sister cry out more, to feel even better. “Why don't you lay down on your back Luna, that way I can better 'help' you with this problem.”
Luna quickly turned over, too bothered now to care what position she was in. But, as she settled back down and looked into her sister's eyes, she could now clearly see all of the heat and desire in them. She couldn't bring herself to look away as Celestia’s gaze seemed to hold her in place.
“There, now we can see each other.”
With her sister splayed out in front of her like that, it took all the restraint Celestia had to not pounce on her right there. She wanted this to be something special between them, something that Luna would always remember.
Gently setting her hooves down over her sister's legs, she positioned herself between them. She looked up at her sister lovingly before digging back into the sweet marehood. Luna resumed her cries of passion as Celestia treated her aching sex.
“Does it feel good Luna?” Celestia said, keeping their eyes locked.

Luna blushed and nodded.
Celestia considered for a moment, what would be the best way to please her sister while she was in heat. Her eyes widened as a particular thought struck her, and she asked hesitantly, “Luna... I would like to try something with you... if you would like. I think it will be better suited to help your heat.”
Luna contemplated what it might be that her sister had in mind, but she had already come this far and she was in an incredible heat at the moment.
“We are alright with anything you have in mind sister.”
Celestia gave a little nod and got off the bed, leaving her sister spread out on it, watching her intently as she began to channel magic into a spell.
“I never really had a reason to use it, but I think now is a good time.”
Luna watched her sister's horn ignite with magic and flash brightly for a second. Temporarily blinded by the bright light, it took her a minute to finally notice exactly what it had done. But as her eyes wandered over her sister's form, she could now see something sticking out underneath her.
Celestia had a generous length protruding from between her legs. It was white, like her coat, for most of it, with a slightly pinker tip that flared out at the end. There was also a pair of two round white orbs hanging from the base of the long stallionhood. Luna's jaw dropped.
“H-how is something like this even possible?”
“Over the years that you were gone, a great deal of new spells have been discovered by unicorns. One of which was a way to manipulate a pony’s genitalia temporarily. And not just in looks either, it’s actually commonly used among mare partners that want to have foals.” She ended, giving her underside a quick look to make sure the spell had been successful.
“You mean this could...”
Celestia looked up and nodded, brushing one of her legs against another.
Luna could feel something in her mind break at the thought. She could have her own sister's foal growing inside her with this. The dark alicorn got up and looked towards her, unsure of what to do now. She didn't have any experience with anything like this, and assumed that her sister didn't either. “S-Should w-we...” She stuttered, turning to point her back-end at Celestia.
“You can stay lying on your back, Luna, just come closer to the edge.” The white alicorn said, patting a hoof on the soft mattress. Luna moved as instructed with a slightly doubtful expression. She knew something of what position a mare was supposed to be in for a stallion to mount. Though, as she laid back down and Celestia positioned herself over her, she was surprised to find that they fit perfectly together, pure white fur against her dark blue coat, a hoof on either side of her.
The bed was high, and a perfect distance for her while standing on the ground with her back legs. It was almost too perfect as Celestia lined up, her impressive length resting right on top of her stomach, just above her entrance. Not only that, but something about being able to see her sister while they would be doing this made her feel so much better about the situation. She could clearly see the lust in her magenta eyes as they looked to each other.

Luna could feel the length pulsing inside her at a steady rate, soothing her with its gentle rhythm. After a bit she realized that it was, in fact, her sister's heartbeat she was feeling. She could actually feel her sister's heartbeat through their connection. Her body relaxed as they kissed, her own beat unconsciously falling into sync with her sister's as they lay there, connected.
Soon though, Luna slowly started to rock her hips up against her sister, ready to continue now that the pain had passed. Celestia took that as her sign to start moving, and pulled out slightly, only to give a triumphant thrust back in, reaching even further depths.
Luna moaned as Celestia thrust into her, managing to delve deeper inside her. The feeling of her sister pulling out, leaving behind an aching emptiness, and then the delicious stab of pleasure when she came back in was enough to make her want to cry.
“It feels so good sister! Please don't stop!” she begged.
Celestia wouldn't dream of it. She repeated the process again and again, each time gaining more depth. The cute moans coming from Luna making her redouble her efforts with each thrust, wanting to bring her sister’s pleasure to further heights. She kept up a steady pace until she felt the last of her stallionhood enter, the tip pushing up against something deep inside her sister's marehood.
When her sister tapped against her deepest barrier, the scream that left Luna would have awoken half the castle, since part of her royal Canterlot voice was mixed into it. She was a little frightened by the thought of having a foal, but it was overwhelmed by a powerful urge to have this length inside her and be filled with its gift. That, and a cardinal desire deep inside her that wished nothing more than to bear her sister's foal.

That was more than enough of an answer for Celestia, who started picking up her pace, no longer holding back. Each stroke made her groan as she hit up against her sister's cervix before pulling back. Celestia lay down next to her and began to lovingly stroke the soft fur of her sister's stomach. She looked up at the blue alicorn and took notice of the lines of worry etched into her sister's face.
“Are you scared?” She asked, worried that she had gone too far.
Luna slowly shook her head. “No. It's just...” She looked down at her belly. Celestia knew what she meant, and nuzzled her affectionately.
“You are beautiful Luna, so I am positive that our foal will also be beautiful.”
Luna blushed at the comment. “We're sure they will have your beauty as well sister.”
Celestia turned her head to look curiously at her. “They?”
“We just have a feeling...” she said, curling around the white alicorn.
Celestia rested her head against one of her sister's soft wings, her ethereal hair acting almost as a blanket, covering the lower half of the dark alicorn. Luna just draped a hoof over her sister and laid her head down over the sun cutie mark on her flank. Both content and basking in the afterglow of their embrace.
“I love you Luna. I'll always love you. For all eternity.”
Luna rubbed her head over her sister's cutie mark, trying to snuggle closer.
“We know. We love you too sister.”
Little did they know that the fruit of their love had, in fact, taken the form of two new lives, now growing inside the midnight mare's body. The product of both the sun and the moon.
Both light and dark.
Day and night.
Dawn and Dusk
~7 years later~
“Are you ready?” The yellow coated pony asked. Her mane was a curvy mixture of pink and peach colors and she had a bright purple eyes that sparkled a little in eagerness.
“Ready.” This time coming from a white coated pony that was next to her, she had a mane and tail that was two shades of blue and a pair of light-blue eyes, both holding a look of determination in them. She also wore a hairband that matched the light blue in her tail.
“We might not make it back. Are you still sure you want to do this?” She asked, giving one last chance to turn back. They only had one chance at this and if they weren't careful, well... they didn't know what would happen.
The blue-maned pony gave a look over the small pile of brush that they were hiding behind, looking across the field at the sleeping white form and nodded.
With that they both slowly crawled out from their small hiding spot that was out of view and approached the white monster that was laying in the grassy field. They had no choice but to cross it in order to get close. Some may have thought that the open field was quite peaceful looking and safe, the colorful flowers and the occasional trees blowing in the breeze. But what they didn't know was that one of the most powerful beings in the world rested among them.
Each step was taken slowly, making as little noise as possible so as not to be caught. This was a risky plan to begin with but they had the element of surprise on their side. The wind was blowing along the grass, masking their steps, and as long as they didn't make too much noise they would be able to approach unnoticed.
A twig that had been lying on the ground snapped as one of them stepped on it, causing them both to freeze and stop all movement, waiting for any movement from the sleeping figure. They stayed still for about a minute until they were sure that it had gone unheard, looking at each other uneasily before continuing.
After a few more steps towards their goal they had finally crossed most of the open field and were now in striking distance of the white beast. They gave a look of finality towards one another and gave a small nod of agreement, and with a loud cry jumped as they pounced on the monster.
But right as they leaped into the air one of the white beast's eyes opened and her muzzle scrunched up, failing to hold in her smile.
“Gotcha!”
She quickly spread out her wings and caught them as they landed into her wings, folding them around the two, the momentum making the large white alicorn tumble over. The two fillies squealed out and tried to squirm away, but they found themselves trapped under the two white wings.
“Awww mom. How did you know!” The yellow coated filly whined and then started giggling as the white goddess ducked under her wing and started nipping at her playfully.
“Well Dawn, I would say it was because I was never really asleep, but even if I was, your 'battle cry' would have woken me anyway.” She said, grinning at the little yellow, pink and peach alicorn.
“You were awake the whole time?! Ohhh...” The blue-mane alicorn filly groaned.
“Sorry Dusk, but you are both a thousand years too early to pull a fast one on me.”
“I don't need a thousand years, just you wait, next time we’ll get you.” Dawn said prodding against her barrel with a hoof, causing her to laugh and roll around, taking Dawn and Dusk with her.
“Okay, Okay, no more, you win!” She called out as Dusk joined her sister and was now tickling and poking her to the point of tears in her eyes.
“Victory!” They both shouted out in glee.
Celestia laugh warmly as she sat up and lower her wings a little to give the two fillies some room to get out. They stayed laying in her wings though, it was a habit they picked up when they were still foals. She would curl them up in her wings and hold them against her when they would cry, and it would always stop their tears right away.
After a full afternoon of playing in the garden behind the castle, they had expelled much of their energy and had to take a small break. Both letting out a cute yawn as they snuggled into her wings. She love her little fillies as much as she loved Luna. They alone made it more than worth the trouble that came when the true came out.
Things actually went as good as they could have hoped went the truth became known. When they first made the public announcement as to their new relationship and of her sister's pregnancy, quite a few were upset, calling them sick and disgusting, some even wanted them to step down from the throne for this. But as they were the ones in charge of moving the sun and the moon, they couldn't really just kick them out as they were important to Equestria and its harmony.
Still a good number of ponies did find it distasteful and crude, many of which were upper class ponies that argued that they should marry into one of their families instead. But after we explained how we couldn't love a pony that wouldn't last as long as we, a few managed to understand and get past how wrong it was.
It wasn't until somepony made the mistake of walking up to Luna and demanding that the pregnancy be terminated, scaring her half to death in fear for her unborn foals, that Celestia got enraged for one of the few times in her life.
After ponies saw the holes burned through the thick stone walls of the throne room from that day, many of those that still disliked the thought caved and gave up.
In the end they were able to keep their stations as the two rulers of Equestria as no one could think of a good reason as to why this would affect their duties as princesses. And when Dawn and Dusk were born the next year they were both given the title of princess as well since they were both alicorns. Luna and her named them for what they truly were, the accumulation of both the day and night.
They did want to be married, though it was still technically against the law to marry in the family. But they decided that they shouldn't push their luck, they could work towards that once things settled down after a few centuries.
In raising both of her foals, Celesta found that she loved being a parent. For most of her life she cared about other ponies and treated them all with love, but to actually have foals of her own made her realize just how much she wanted to be a real mother.
And she cherished each and every moment with them.
“Mom?” Dawn asked quietly from under her wing.
“Yes honey?” She said, coming out of her thoughts.
“When did you know you loved mother?”
The question caught her of guard somewhat, but her memories of her past filled her thoughts as she thought of all her moments with Luna. “I have loved your mother for a long time... Since I was even your age.”
“Since you were still a filly?” Dusk asked, to which she nodded.
“But how did you know you loved her?” Dawn asked curiously, causing her to smile a little at the thought.
“I knew that I loved her for many reasons. When she was around it always made me happy, being able to do things together with her made me happy, even seeing her happy made me happy. I would always be looking out for her and I enjoyed being there for her when she needed me.” As soon as she said that, her face fell into a frown which didn't go unnoticed by the two. “But it took me a long time to finally tell her how I felt, and I wish I would have told her sooner.”
“Sooner?” Dawn asked, tilting her head to the side.
She nodded slowly. “Because I couldn't bring myself to tell her how I felt, I almost lost her forever... And I wasn't there for her when she needed me...”
She couldn't keep from choking up at the end a little from what she could have lost. She worked everyday to make up for what happened because of her hesitance, but it would never be enough in her eyes. She could never replace the time wasted, she could only make sure that she didn't make the same mistake again and help her keep her daughters from making the mistake as well.
“So I want you both to always remember, that no matter how somepony might react to your feelings, you must never hide them away... Because not only will they cause you pain for every moment you leave them unheard, but you may end up hurting the one that you tried to protect by keeping them secret.”
As she said that last bit, a tear fell down one of her white cheeks as she thought about Luna and all the hurt she caused because of what she hid away. But she was brought out of it as she felt her to fillies move under her wings.
“Don't be sad mom.” Dawn said, as she started to nuzzle against her neck, unsure of how else to make her mom feel better.
Dusk also nuzzled her, holding her tightly beneath her wing. Celestia couldn't help but smile through the tears as the two tried to comfort her and gave each of them a little nuzzle of affection back as she let out a little sigh of happiness.
“My little fillies.” She said quietly as she held them close. Content with just holding her little children under her wings.
“You know, my faithful student once wrote to me, 'Being a good friend means being able to keep a secret, but you should never be afraid to share your true feelings with a good friend.'” She quoted from one of her student's letters.
“What does that mean?” Dusk asked, look up at her with big adorable eyes.
Celestia's smile widened a little as she took the little filly along with her sister up in her forehooves. “It means that you should never leave your feelings bottled up inside of you. It is better to let them know and be turned away then to live your whole life wondering what could have been. And if they truly care about you, then they will always be there for you, no matter how big the secret is or how much it may change.”
They both seemed a confused at what she said but nodded anyway. She smirked at the two.
“It means, little ones, that you can keep your secrets; but you shouldn't hide who you are and how you feel inside to the ponies close to your heart.”
She laughed as both of the fillies' eyes grew to saucers and they both made little oh's as they finally took in what was the most valuable and costly lesson she ever learned in her long life. Ever since that day she has learned how to let her emotions show every now and again. After all, if she couldn't show her feelings to her own children, then who else?
“You both mean the world to me and your mother... Don't ever forget that.” She said holding them tighter and tucking her wings around them like a blanket. They both snuggled closer to her happily under their mom's soft wings.
They stayed like that for a while until Celestia's head lifted as she heard the sound of beating wings. She looked up to see, though she already knew who it was.
“So where are our two precious little ones?” Said the blue alicorn as she touched down in front of her, a slightly worried look on her face but not a fearful one as she knew that their mom was watching them.
“Here mother!” They both answered as they poked their heads out from behind her large white wings, smiling at her as she landed. Luna gave her wings a few extra flaps before folding them at her sides.
“Luna.” Celestia said with a little smile of her own at her sister. The dark blue alicorn walked up to them and nuzzled both fillies before giving a loving nuzzle to her as well.
“When are you going to teach us how to fly mother?” Came from Dusk as she looked at her own wings sadly. “We want to fly with you and mom, right sis?”
“Nuh uh, I want to learn how to do magic first! Like turning rocks into cake and making things float around like you both!” Dawn said looking up at her.
“You will learn soon. Your wings are growing in quickly so we believe it will only be only a year or two before we can start teaching you how to fly.” Luna said, running a hoof through Dusk's blue-shaded mane.
“And as for your magic-” Celestia added in, looking down at Dawn. “- I'm not sure about turning rocks into cake, but you will begin learning basic magic around the same time. I promise we will teach you both when the time comes, but until then you will just have to have patience and wait.”
They groaned at the news of having to wait and pouted adorably as Luna sat down next to her love.
“Our night is coming. It will be time to raise the moon soon.” She said looking into the amber sky and west towards the setting sun.
“Can we play a little longer?” Dawn asked hopefully.
“We don't see why not?” Luna said, smiling at the pair.
They both let out a cheer but Celestia spoke up. “I don't know Luna. Its getting late...”
“Mooooommmmmm~” They both whined in unison as they looked up at her, giving her their big eyes attack. She imminently caved to it but held back so as not to give in right away. Luna held a hoof to her mouth and silently laughed behind it.
“Hmmm.” She hummed and looked off as if debating it, trying to keep from letting her smile give her away. Both of the fillies waited on her next words with baited breath.
“Well... I guess... you could play for a little while longer...”
Almost as soon as the words left her, they wiggled out of her grasp and took off across the field, saying something like 'thanks mom' before disappeared into the garden.
“So much for me then...” Celestia said with false hurt as her ears fell.
But they perked right back up as Luna took her fillies' place and snuggled into her sister. Celestia took Luna in her hooves and wrapped her wings around the blue alicorn, smiling as she held her close, her sister leaned back into her and pressed against her neck. They didn't say anything as they laid down together in the grassy field, as nothing had to be said.
As the two lovers were laying together in the wide field, Dusk and Dawn were running through the flowers in the garden chasing one another and laughing happily as they played, both enjoying their time spent outside of the castle. They hated how boring it could get living in the castle walls and how stuffy it felt, but out here they were free to play and enjoy the fresh air.
As they raced along the rows of hedges the white filly stumbled over a rock that had been sticking out of the ground. She let out a short yelp before she tripped and tumbled forward, hitting the ground head first.
Her sister immediately skidded to a halt and came back to check and make sure she was okay.
“Are you alright?! Should I go get mom?” She asked worriedly as Dusk sat up, barely holding her tears in from the pain. She could see the red mark on her muzzle from where it hit the ground.
Seeing that her sister was hurt and wanting to make her happy again she nuzzled her cheek, trying to make her feel better. Though it did help in calming her sister down, it also made a light blush appear on her white cheeks.
“Does it feel better?” She asked, concerned as she drew back to see if it worked.
Dusk just nodded and blinked away the tears in her eyes. “A little.”
Dawn smiled and gave her a quick peck on the nose. When they would get hurt sometimes their mom would kiss it to make it feel better, she didn't have big wings like her mom but she did what she could to make her sister feel better and make the pain go away.
“Ewww sis, gross!” She groaned, rubbing the front of her muzzle with a hoof as the yellow filly moved away. “Why did you do that?”
Dawn just look back at her sister and grinned.
“Because I love you, silly.”
Dusk's face lit up with more red than the sky that the sunset brought and Dawn giggled at the face her sister made. But she didn't laugh long as she took off down across the garden.
“Now catch me if you can!” she cried out as she dashed away.
Dusk stood up and took off after her, her embarrassment gone and pain forgotten as she chased her sister down, also laughing now.
“You're gonna get it when I catch you!”
And they chased each other through the garden as the day touched the night.
And the sky glowed.
