How? Magic… That’s how!
Prologue
Darkness. It filled the ground, the sky, the air. Actually, I didn’t even know if there was a ground or sky, just the black as sin air. Then, quickly and out of nowhere, specks of light appeared through the dark. Small and large dots alike, made of bright, white, pure light. It shone warmly and welcomingly, waiting for someone to come greet it. The clouds seemed to completely avoid the light and were push back by it.
Then, many lights began to grow and swell. They seemed to also emit an annoyingly loud noise. The lights continued to grow, until they eventually swelled so bright they were hard to look at. The dark clouds were engulfed in the light. The extremely bright light engulfed everything.
I couldn’t stand it any longer. My eyes shot open, and the loud noise was replaced by aggressive music. I awkwardly sat up, and my legs shot out from under my torso. I looked around trying to figure out where I was. Everything was white, strangely enough. Tiles stretched up the wall, and I sat, half naked, in a curved white bowl of some sorts. To the left of me a white curtain hung down, blocking anything hiding behind it.
I grabbed the flimsy curtain and shoved it out of my line of sight. Outside of the curtain was a small room, with a counter, and a blocky, shiny object. The counter was littered with bottles that were either empty, or broken. The more I thought about my surroundings, the more my head throbbed and pounded with pain.
The little man in my head finally noticed it was time to wake up. He started to shift the puzzle pieces into place. I finally realized where I was, in my bathroom, of my apartment, hung over after a late night with friends. I clumsily maneuvered myself out of my bathtub. I stumbled to the door leading into the living room, and threw it open, leaving a hole in the drywall, were the knob struck.
The Living room, or kitchen, or even bedroom was a mess, waiting for me to clean it up. Trash, beer bottles, broken glass, and anything that you could make a mess of, was scattered across the room, or cluttering up counters and tables. The walls were the only thing clean except for all the flags or posters hanging around.
Next to the front door was Old Glory, the old red, white, and blue of the United States of America. Under her was a scarlet and gold Marine flag. Opposite of those flags, were another two flags side by side. On the left was the Colorado flag, and on the right was the California flag. Posters were hung everywhere, one of which was a menacing skull, biting down a single brass knuckle. A bloody hand with the number five in the middle covered the skull’s forehead. Another poster hung up, was the Swinging Fryer, next to that was a sky blue and lightning yellow, lightning bolt.
Off in the corner adjacent of the front door, sat a computer. The computer part sat under a cheap desk, while two monitors sat on top of the desk. The computer was cold and seemed like it hasn’t been on for days, or, more likely, hours. My head throbbed harder with every detail I studied.
I felt like my skin was going to gyrate of my forehead. My eyes felt like they would pop out of my head. I stumbled back into the bathroom, flopping onto the counter. I dragged my body up supporting myself up with my arms. I looked into the chrome mirror, to see a replica of me in it. My long gray hair hung over my shoulders. The gray matched my pointy beard. I looked like a mad man, only to complete the look was the scar over my left eye, blinding it. My dog tags that I only noticed now were hung around my neck. Two thin, oval like pieces of metal accompanied a thicker oddly shaped steel bit. I shook off my pesky studying. Blood was pour from my nose. I was shocked, but I shrugged it off keeping as calm as possible. I looked left to see another, smaller mirror.
“Aspirin,” I shot out from under my breath, “it must be in the medicine-” I screamed in agony before finishing my sentence. I threw open the mirror to expose an array of various bottles and packages. I grabbed a huge bottle before falling to the ground. I read the bottle making sure it was the right one. “Ibuprofen” the bottle said in big printed letters, I tried to open the child proof lid, before I conjured up all my strength in a fit of rage and broke the lid opened. Pills flew every which way like shrapnel. I downed a few fills before dropping the bottle.
“F-FUCK-CK!” I screamed in agony as my brain summoned a brick breaking blow. I’ve been shot before, and compared to this head tearing pain feels like getting a tiny, little, baby splinter. The aspirin was working, my torment was starting to die down, but it still hurt like a Son-of-a-Bitch! I gathered as many aspirin pills as I could a stuffed them into the pockets on my olive drab pants. I got to my feet and bolted out of my bathroom.
Lying on the ground next to my front door was a harness like article of clothing and a black coat. I ran over and put the harness, which was actually a shoulder holster. It was complete with the two pistols hanging under my armpits. I put the coat on over it, concealing it.
I burst out the door into my apartment complex, the stairs to my left led down to the parking lot. I took them down to my truck. A large, fading green camouflaged truck sat cold waiting for me to jump in. I started my approach to my vehicle before I was struck with another fit of antagonizing pain. I stumbled over myself falling onto the hood of the small car next to my truck.
I rolled to my back on top of the car. I pinned my arms up against me like a T-rex as I painfully hissed, “M-MOTH-THERFUCK-ER!” I noticed darkness was starting to seep into my vision. I started to close my eyes before an all too familiar voice started ring in my head.
“Get up!” the voice said in a raspy unsettling voice. I shot awake. I was on the concrete ground next to the car. The sky was now a hazy purple mixed with a fiery orange. At least the part I could see, most of the sky was brewing with dark grey storm clouds. I summoned up what little strength I had to get to my feet. Rain started to pour from the heavens.
I looked at my truck. “No way was I going to be able to drive.” I thought to myself. I looked down the street opposite of my vehicle. Large buildings led down to the escape of this fort like structure. I began to shuffle out, having no idea where to go other than a hospital, I let my instincts guide me. I began my journey, in bad health and bad weather, going where ever or bust.
How? Magic… That’s how!
Chapter 1
I stood in the middle of the rain covered street, arms crossed and head down looking like a serial killer. My hair was soaked, and dripped down past my face. Luckily my jacket let the rain slip right off, last thing I needed was to be soaking and cold. I must’ve just awoken as I had now just slipped back into consciousness. It was now pouring with rain in the dead of night. I looked around I couldn’t see anything past the rain. I returned my gaze to look at the street in front of me.
A steam grate in front of me erupted with pluming clouds of vaporized water. Except something was weird about it. The steam clouds were… black! Maybe it was just a shadow but still they were black as sin. I stood frozen watching the steam rise into the air.
Lights started to appear from behind the clouds, from inside the darkness behind. My headache came back at full force and grew as every new light appeared. The brightness was intense but not as intense as what I remember what happens next. I could feel blood start to pour from out of my nose. The lights stopped appearing and started to slowly swirl around me. Blood started to drip from my mouth and ears. The pain was excruciating, I wanted to claw my eyes out and rip out my tongue.
The lights stopped swirling. They began to grow bigger. Blood ran out from under my eyelids. A voice in my head uttered a quiet, inaudible word before screaming at full force. I forced my head together with my arms trying to keep the screaming voice inside. I fell to my knees, screaming in pain. A large blinding white light engulfed all the other lights. It grew larger and larger. My body went limp as a blunt force plowed me down to the rain soaked street.
The massive light ascended out of my vision. The screaming was replaced by the sound of a truck horn passing over me. My body was still limp, and blood still dripped out of every orifice of my face. I looked around what little I could see. Clouds no longer blocked my vision through the rain. Huge concrete cylinders reached into the sky over me. I looked further down the wet, asphalt strip. A vaguely familiar form stood in the rain. It stood completely still, like it was frozen in fear. A flash of lightning blinded the world quickly followed by an ear shattering bolt of thunder.
The light disappeared as quickly as it came, darkness returned to the world. And just like that the figure was gone. Probably just a rat scavenging for food, a huge three foot tall with legs as long as a dogs. Okay, defiantly not a rat. What the hell was that? I needed to figure out what that was. Maybe it was the reason to why I was here. I tried to force myself to my feet. It was of no avail, my body was in a dead state. I gave knowing only trying more would waste my energy. I watched the blood that was still dripping from my eyes be carried away by rain staining the ground.
I started to notice what was going on around me. I could hear crows, what sounded like dozens of them, caw down from atop their perches. Not scared off by the rain? They must think I’m their next meal. Fucking vultures, eat themselves if they really wanted to. I heard a large splash of water from behind me and a smaller splash immediately after. Someone was behind me! Was he here to finish the job!? I tried to stay as calm as possible.
The splashing of feet behind me stopped. I could hear the sound of someone panicking behind me.
“Oh god,” a rather high pitched voice of a man uttered, “I killed him!” I rolled my eyes, least could do was actually check if I was really dead. But if he did, he’d probably drag my ass to a hospital. I could hear him back away slowly, and then run back to where he came from. A car door slammed shut, the engine roared and he was off, quicker than a cheetah.
I was alone now. I could still hear the crows around me though, just waiting to fill their slimy fucking beaks with my flesh. The rain continued its onslaught. I could feel my face getting cold. I had to get up, I didn’t want to be taken by hypothermia. A bolt of lightning struck in the distance, thunder followed seconds after. God, could this be more boring.
A crow flew down in front of me. I tried to shoo it away but I couldn’t move, I spat at the little pest. It did nothing he came closer and started to peck at my shoulder. He managed to break through the leather.
“Oh, you little fucker!” I grunted as he started to break through my skin. He dragged a bloody piece of me out and started to devour it. I could hear his friends swoop down. Meal time! I tried to struggle as they each were starting to feast. I mustered out a cry of pain. Was this how I die? A hero swallowed by birds?
I felt the birds stop. A black ring seeped into my eyes again as it did this morning. It sounded as if I fell into a well. The bird in front of me flew off. What was going on? Did the guy in the truck come back? A race of questions raced through my mind. The dark ring grew bigger. Oh no! Don’t pass out again my brain shouted at me. It was no use. The darkness caved in on my pupil. I was dead now.

Black. Here we go, again with the blackness and darkness! That’s starting to become the most prominent thing in my life. My sensory skills started to develop I could hear voices. Wait, voices!? I wasn’t dead? I WASN’T DEAD!!! They were washed out, but still voices. It sounded like female voices, arguing over something. I sat still, trying not to draw attention to myself. I eavesdropped in on the conversation. I couldn’t hear at first, it was like trying to listen to a metronome underwater. Finally, after seconds, which felt like hours, I could hear again!
“The point is you shouldn’t have brought that here!” One of them said. She sounded plain, just as any normal person from the states sounds.
“Well,” another voice sounded up, “I’m glad you brought it here. The poor thing would’ve died without some help.” They sounded like they both were addressing some other body in the room. Hell, there could’ve been a whole, very quiet, battalion around me. I couldn’t quite pick up on her voice either, it was so meek and innocent.
“It’s just going to be a liability now!” The first voice butted in sounding annoyed.
“Haven’t we just gone over this?” A random voice put in. Were they going over this topic a second time? I became nervous, maybe they knew I was awake and this was their way of explaining whatever happened to me. Oh the ever-so narcissistic Darkeye I thought to myself. Oh yes, her voice. How un-cliché that Cowgirl accent was. Where was I, in a fucking sitcom?
“We could always throw him back in the downpour, Twilight.” Another yet vastly imaginative tomboy intonation mused. Yea, I was on a television set somewhere. The utterance of the name Twilight kept racing around my mind. Where have I heard that before?
“Not while I’m around you’re not!” The gentle voice became aggressive. I heard her catch herself, “I mean, if that’s okay with you.” She added in a much less assertive tone. I rolled my eyes.
“Now darlings,” yet another person threw their hat into the ring, “we can’t start fighting now. We have yet to figure out where we are. Maybe our new friend here could help us.” They’re lost and expecting me to help? Well, they did save me from those vicious little varmints.
Who I was guessing was Twilight gave a quick grunt and stormed off. Guess the meetings adjourned as everyone else carried on with their days. I was left with questions zipping through my mind. Where was I? How did I get here? I pushed those questions aside knowing I’d satisfy their thirst for knowledge later. The big question left in my mind was where I heard the name Twilight before. I knew it was a famous name and the fact that it was so unusual only made me angry that I couldn’t remember it.
I stopped trying to remember, it was of no use to reclaim lost memories. I should just get the quick and dirty answers, but first I should know what I was facing. It wasn’t like waking up in the hospital being surrounded by loved ones. It would be more like waking up as a hostage and then getting the tar beaten out of you.
I tried to open my eyes. Black still filled my sight. It felt like reliving a dream where you try to wake up but you’re already awake. Something must be covering my eyes. Luckily my hands weren’t bound together or something crazy like that. I reached up to try and remove whatever was covering my eyes. I froze realizing what a fatal mistake I made.
“Look! He’s awake!” I heard a voice call out alerting everyone to my sudden reanimation. Oh I love you brain you make the best decisions. I proceeded to remove the bandages covering my eyes. They felt rough, not much like gauze wrappings but more like the coarse edge of Velcro. As I continued to unravel the bandages, light pierced the dark clouding my eyes.
I removed the bandages completely. My vision was blurry, and the blinding light didn’t help. I could see a mesh of obnoxiously bright colors ring my horizon. I blinked and my vision started to come back to me. I could make out what ever surrounded me.
I went wide eyed once I caught sight of what I was facing. The appeared to be brightly colored ponies?! Sweet merciful death, take me now!
