Night and the Moon
Artemis, Night, and the moon
Previous Chapter“But mom!!!” The young mare whined. Luna sitting in her office sighed and rolled her eyes. She looked at her daughter and took in her pleading appearance. Artemis was 15 and her once bright cerulean coat had darkened closer to her mothers and the ethereal stars from her mothers hair had settled in the ends of her own. Artemis' long disheveled mane from her recent nap was hanging over her right eye. As she yawned and rubbed her eyes as she planted her flank on the floor in front of her mother.
“Arty, My love. You know your father has to work. He will not be available for-” Luna said, sighing. Trying to remind her daughter that Night was now a very busy stallion with his recent job promotion.
“But my race is this week! Everyone else’s parents are going to be there!” Artemis continued to whine. She was extremely frustrated with everything that was going on in her life. Her parents being “busy” hadn’t been to as many of her relays, races, or other events as she would have liked. She was aware her mother was THe PriNcesS of the MoOn and her dad was The CAptaIn of the Lunar Guard. So she kind of understood but she was also THEIR daughter and should be more important the young Alicorn thought.
“My little Light, you should listen to your mother sometime,” Night said as he entered the office.
“Papa! Please~ can you come this week?” Artemis pleaded as she jumped at Night and threw her forelegs around him. She looked up at him and shook her hair out of her eyes. Her large pink eyes beamed up at him and Night groaned. She knew he couldn’t help himself when she made that face. Hugging his daughter, Night looked at his wife at her desk with a stupid grin on his face.
“ Come now, how could I say no to this face hmm?” Night said happily as he looked to his wife. Luna rolled her eyes and used her magic to adjust her glasses in her magic.
“This is why she’s so spoiled! Between you and sister, I’m tired of playing the bad mare” Luna said exasperatedly, as she threw her hooves up.
“Oh please, you love it. But in all seriousness I’ll be there, Shadow Wing will step in for me and Tia has already arranged for us all to go.” Night admitted releasing Artemis, who was now jumping around in circles.
“YAYY! Auntie Tia and Papa are coming! I’ll win this for sure, I promise!” Artemis boldly proclaimed.
Night looked at his daughter, then to his wife, then back and forth a few times more before Luna laughed with him. Night walked over to Luna behind her desk and planted a kiss on her cheek.
“Take a deep breath my love, It’s one day away from work. You won't explode. Or will you?” Night said in mock fear. Luna punched him in the side and shook her head as her laugh subsided.
“Fine, Artemis Shine go finish getting packed, we all shall leave later today” Luna huffed, shaking her head and sighing. Artemis wasted no time in teleporting herself out of the room as a squee was heard followed by soft pop of displaced air.
“For Faust sake, I wonder sometimes if we have been good parents,” Luna said, placing her glasses on her desk and looking at Night.
“We have done what we can. We let her know we love her and do our best to make it to her competitions. We run a country my love and she knows juggling all of these duties isn’t easy” Night said hugging his wife.
“Y-You are right. We are just so stressed out” Luna admitted letting out a breath she herself didn’t know she was holding in. Smiling, she nuzzled into the embrace and hummed.
“So want another one?” Night teased. His comment was met with another punch to the ribs. Night fell over next to Luna who scoffed at him sprawled on the floor.
“O-Ok I deserved that, you hit the same spot again you’re so cruel” He said through gritted teeth.
“Hmph. Serves thou right. Now let us prepare for our trip and we shall see about ‘Another one’ later,” Luna cooed, getting up from her desk and winking at the stallion on the floor as she opened the door and left.
“Luckiest stallion on the moon, and in Equestria” Night said grinning. Slowly getting up and making his way towards the door following his wife.
“Is it always this crowded when trying to move through clouds dale hun?” Night asked. He wasn’t around for the founding and expansion of the city in the sky. At least if he was, he couldn’t recall it.
“No, but when both Princesses and a Prince are in attendance,” Luna said, smiling and waving at the ponies gathering around them.
“Get used to it Brother, this will happen to you. Look, the mares love you~” Celestia teased. Night stifled a laugh as he watched his wife glare daggers at her sister. The trio walked through the crowded gates and up to the VIP section of the Wonder bolts stadium.
“Oh please, dearest Sister, you may find your potential suitor here, who knows?” Night shot back, before having to duck a hoof from Celestia.
“Oh dear I seem to have slipped, are you ok?” Celestia said, trying to hold herself together.
“Will you two stop it?” Luna said, sighing. Did she really have to babysit her husband and her sister? Faust sake, she really hoped that wasn’t the case today.
“Yes Hun, look they’re about to start, the Introductions,” Night said, pointing his hoof at the ponies in the center of the event field.
“Ladies and Gentle colts I am Spitfire and we welcome all of you. We thank both Princesses for joining us in today's festivities,” She said, bowing. Hoots and hollers were heard as Luna and Celestia stood up and waved briefly.
“We will now commence this year's annual Junior Wonder bolts track and field meet!,” Spitfire said, as the rest of the stands erupted in cheers as the event staff began to set up for the first event.
“Where's Artemis?” Celestia asked, looking around the stadium.
“Her event is later so do enjoy the other talents for now,” Night said, pulling at the collar on his attire. He was happy he got to attend his daughter's races, but the downside was he had to adhere to royal standards. Being the Husband to the Princess of the moon, he wore a navy blue tailcoat with gold accents on the shoulders and collar. Needless to say Night was warm, as the noon sun beat down on him.
“Everything alright?” Luna asked him, concerned.
“Just uhh, a little warm dear, no need to worry,” Night said, brushing off her concerns. Then he felt a nice cool breeze wash over him. He hummed as he relaxed, making Luna laugh. She used her magic to cool him down as they waited for their daughter's race.
“Ahh I’m so nervous, I don’t wanna do bad with mom and papa here,” Artemis said, jumping up and down. Her anxiety waiting for her 200m dash, was eating her up inside. She was so unfocused that she didn’t realize her coach had come looking for her.
“I’m sure you will do fine,” her coach said, laying a wing in comfort on her shoulder.
“I hope so,” Artemis said, nervously laughing as her coach looked down at her.
“Well you better figure it out sweetie because your race starts in five. You’re in the first heat,” she said, withdrawing her wing and walking off to find the others.
“Oh, thanks… coach,” Artemis said, sighing to herself. She wouldn’t have minded special treatment of some kind, just to lift her spirit. Being a transfer did not help as she missed making friends in the beginning of the year.
“CALLING FOR THE TWO-HUNDRED METER FIRST HEAT,” The Stallion over the intercom said. His voice carried around the stadium as called once more for the first heat. Artemis gulped and headed to the start point. Looking around she saw the 4 other pegasi she had to race against. As she got ready she looked to her right and saw her family. She was happy they were here. Taking a deep breath she readied herself in the flight gates.
