Through the Portal

Chapter 1: The monotony is broken

So, I live a pretty boring life. I can't drive yet, and even if I could,I don't have a job so I would'nt be able to pay for gas. I live between two small towns in Mississippi, but everything important we do isn't in either of them, but 30 minutes away. Every weekday, it's the same routine. Get up do my schoolwork (i'm homeschooled but both my parents work in the day so they trust me to get it done while they're gone), walk down to my grandparent's house to watch MLP and use the computer ( because they have internet and TV and we don't), and to play video games with my cousin. But that all changed the day i found the portal.

The road I live on has very pretty scenery, but when you live there, you only notice it when you actually stop to look at it, which is why I like to walk along it every now and again. It was on one such walk that I found it. It had rained really hard the previous day, and I was'nt expecting it to happen again. Needless to say, it did. I was pretty far from home at the time, so I ran into a nearby ditch for cover. The trees kept most of the rain off, and I was reaching for my phone to call my parents to tell them to come get me when all of a sudden, a large, gray, flat circular object appeared, and thanks to my love of fantasy, I knew it was a portal immediately. I'm naturally curious (but if you ask my family they'll tell you nosy), so I figured i'd just stick my head in to see where it lead, but just as the tip of my nose touched it, it sucked me in all at once. after that, darkness.

I awoke in a strange, creepy forest. "Ohhhh, my head," I said, and reached my hand up to feel for a bump. What I saw instead of my hand freaked the crap out of me.  It was a hoof, a bright green hoof. "Holy cow, what the crap happened to my hand!" I yelled. I tried to look around to maybe figure out where I was but as soon as I saw what was attached to my side I stopped and gasped in surprise. It was a wing, the same color as the hoof. I looked at my other side and it had one too, but farther down my side was something almost weirder. it was a drawing, almost like a tattoo, of two golden masks, one smiling and looking happy, the other looking sad and distraught. I rcognized it as the symbol for drama, as in acting. The happy mask stood for comedy, while the sad mask stood for tragedy. "Is that? Have I? No, I can't be," I thought to myself, but I was about to be proved wrong. It was, and I had. "Where am I," I asked myself, but when I turned to look around, what I saw cleared it up for me. It was a house, no, more like a hut really, but I recognized it. "Oh my gosh, that's Zecora's house. I'm in the everfree forest....." I gasped." I'm in Equestria."

I decided against going to Zecora first. what with the state of shock I was in after having just accidentally teleported to the world of my favorite TV show, I didn't know how much rhyming I could take. Besides, I knew of somepony else I ought to go to. Although she's not my favorite pony, she is very smart, and I knew that if she couldn't help me, there was no doubt she knew somepony could.

As I was walking around Zecora's house( rather easily, considering i'd never walked on four legs before), I noticed large patches of blue plants that I recognized as poison joke and took care to avoid. I was hoping to not run into anypony, and then have to answer unwanted questions, but (just my luck) I did. It was Fluttershy, who normally isn't very inquisitive, but then again, seeing a stranger walking through the everfree forest as if it were a beautiful garden, not nervous at all, would make even the most shy pony a little curious. Needless to say, I had to speak to her. "Um, hi," she said in an obviously nervous voice, "I've never seen you before. What's your name? That is, if i'm not asking too much. You don't have to tell me if you don't want to." It was just like her to act that way, shy and not very good at socializing with strangers, so with as friendly a face as I could manage, I replied, "It's okay. Yes, i'm new, it's complicated. and my name is, umm, uhhh." Crap, i'd forgotten my own name. I guessed i'd hit my head after going through the portal, hence the headache. "Uh, I can't remember my name. I think I need to see Twilight Sparkle though.

"So, what you're saying is that you come from a world where ponies don't talk, have horns or wings or cutie marks, and they don't have houses and books. And you got sucked into a portal that dumped you in the everfree forest, causing you to transform into a pony and forget your name, and now you're here asking me if I can help you figure out why you're here, where the portal came from, and what you're supposed to do now." Twilight said as she paced around the library, wearing a groove into the floor like she did when she was driving herself crazy worrying about the disaster tht would never come. "Yes, that's exactly what i'm saying. So, is there anything you can do?" I asked. "Sorry, I can't do anything to help you, but I know two ponies, well, actually, one of them's a zebra, but that doesn't matter. What matters is, they both might know something. Unfortunately, the train tracks that connect Ponyville and Canterlot are under maintennance, so we'll go to Zecora first. But as soon as the tracks are ready, we're going to consult Princess Celestia."
