The Contest of Champions
Chapter One: Introductions
Previous ChapterHer eyes shot open and gasped leaving her throat. She quickly got to her feet even though they felt unstable. She was touching hard and cold concrete looking around her and she saw an empty loft of some kind. Pillars of concrete connected from the ground all the way up the ceiling lights flickering from above her. The other source of light were large windows that circled the building.
Twilight was confused. She was in a castle a moment ago. She was getting water from the kitchen and then…it felt like…hands all over her body. She shivered at the feeling. She shook her head and the looseness of her body finally left her. She begins to walk over to the windows nearby taking a peek outside.
What she saw was strange. What stood before her beyond the glass was pure marble city. skyscrapers and buildings of metal and concrete stretched out in all directions. Empty streets are where her eyes landed next. They looked like normal roads you see in big cities but there was no one there. No ponies at all.
It felt off. Everything felt off. Even magic felt strange here. She could feel it in the air. She took a step back from the window when she heard a voice call out from behind her.
“Hello, there.” The voice was masculine and cut though silent with its depth.
She turned quickly, jumping back from the window with magical energy wrapping around her horn in a protective manner also out of instinct.
“Woah! I mean you no harm.” The voice called out as he stepped into the light for her.
He was a tall man. Dressed in plate mail from head to toe. A blue tunic wrapped down his chest and opened at the legs. A brown scarf covered his neck. A golden crest was upon the tunic. The right shoulder had a pauldron exposed from the tunic along with the whole right gauntlet. Leather belts tied a number of pouches to his form. Both hands held up in front of his chest.
“W-who are you?” Twilight spoke stepping forward. “Where am I? What’s going on? AND What are you?”
“Well, I actually was hoping you would have known Madam. I, myself, just woke up here. As for who I am. I am sorry to say I don’t remember what my name is. BUT, I am human if that makes a difference. I think I am.” He spoke as if unsure on the subject himself.
“What’s a human? I have never seen anything like you before.” She shouted out as she stepped closer looking over him. Curiosity was in her nature at this moment.
“That makes two of us. I have never seen a talking horse before. Nor usually do they come in your color…but, you do have a brand on you though.” He nodded, catching the marking on her bottom.
“I am not HORSE. I am a pony and this is a cutie mark. Every pony knows that.” She replied with a furrowed brow.
“Is that like a birthmark for your people?” He questioned holding the chin of his helm.
“What’s a birthmark?” She asked, tilting her head.
“....Perhaps we get a bit off topic. Regardless…” He kneeled down in front of her offering his hand to her. “It is a pleasure to meet you. I have no name to give you but, what may I call you?”
She sat down looking at his hand sheepishly offering her own hoof as he shook it. “I am…Twilight. Twilight Sparkle.”
“Well, Miss Twilight. Perhaps we can travel together for now and see what has become of us. I have never seen such a place before. You seem more familiar with our surroundings than I.” He stood up from the ground looking out windows towards the scenery.
“Well it is definitely some kind of city like Manehattan. I have never seen anything like it before and it feels like it just keeps going and going.” She said looking back out the window.
“Hm. I don’t ever think I've seen a city like this before…from what hazy memories I can recall.” The Knight spoke, crossing his arms over his chest.
“You can’t even remember your own name?” She narrowed her eyes at him.
“Hm…” He rubbed the metal of his helm again. “Sadly no. I feel as if it is on the tip of my tongue but it escapes me. It is as if my memories are at the very edge as well but, there all messy.” He said, turning his head to meet her glaze. “I am sure I will remember something as we go.” His tone was positive, almost too upbeat for the situation they were in.
Twilight gave him a puzzled look as a response.
“We are not going to find much here. Miss Twilight, let's see if we can’t find our way to the street.” He said with vigor in his tone as if he was seizing the day.
“Rrrrrright.” Twilight replied. This was her best bet for now.
Twilight began to search the room with her new companion spotting two odd looking metal doors at the end of the room. It looked like some kind of elevator.
“Over here!” She spoke walking towards it.
“What is it?” He asked, walking a few steps behind it.
“It's an elevator. It should take us down to the bottom floor…hopefully.” She spoke unsure of anything at this point.
He paused for a moment. “......Ooo like a lift.” He rose a single finger into the air.
“....Y-yeah.” She replied.
That’s where there was ding from the elevator. The metal doors open up in front of Twilight. She stopped a good distance from the elevator with Knight behind her. What stood in the elevator was…another human. At least that's what she thought. This human looked alot different.
Pink hair tied into a bun in the back. These human bangs were longer on the left side than the right. She was female. She was wearing odd looking clothing, a white sports tank top that hugged her chest. She was also wearing white boxing sports with black spanx under them. Black fingerless boxing gloves covered her hands. Her black eyes had star-like pupils in them that were solely focused on Twilight.
“Twilight. Get back NOW!” The Knight called out.
Twilight turned her head back. “Why? What’s go-.” She was cut off.
The pink haired female rushed her in a blur of motions leaving the den on the floor of the elevator from the speed at which she moved. GONG. That sound rang out as something impacted metal in front of Twilight. Before she even knew what happened. The female was right in front of her. A blue shield with a golden crest was blocking the fist that came at Twilight face. The Knight was now in front of her blocking the blow.
“Oooh, you’re fast Mr. Tin Can.” The pink haired female spoke out with a bright smile on her face.
“WHAT’S GOING ON? ARE OTHER HUMANS LIKE THIS?” Twilight shouted back up as The Knight held his ground.
The pinked haired female chuckled. “I do love fresh meat. Let’s have some fun shall we….Mr. Tin Can.”
