Spitfire was homeless.
Yeah, that's right.
Perhaps in another life, something like this would be hard to believe. The exact opposite would happen not only would she have a home but Fame and bits to her name. Becoming something akin to a celebrity in which her name would be known throughout all of Equestria,
But that didn't happen.
That never happened.
Instead, the yellow-colored pony found herself today washing the dirt and mud off her body using a public fountain. Ponies starred of course some with pity others with disgust but Spitfire didn't care. She used to, a long time ago when there was hope and order in her life. A goal to one day be the best of the best but now that hope is gone and so has her shame.
After all, ponies were always naked anyway.
"im hungry."
Rolling her eyes Spitfire looks towards her smaller companion. A bluish colt with a rather unique mane. One she has yet to see from anyone other Colts. She can only hope that it would make him easier to find if they were to get separated.
"Didn't you eat the leftovers from last night".
"A half-eaten jelly sandwich doesn't count as a full meal now does it?"
His retort causes the mare to roll her eyes.
"If you just tell me where your parents live im sure they can give you better food, whole sandwiches and all".
Silence.
It's something that Spitfire came to expect at this point. Every time that she mentioned or asked about his parents he would just look down and not say a single word. It's something that quickly began to both irritate and worry her. When she found him it wasn't like he showed signs of physical abuse. That would be something she could pick out on the spot. If that wasn't the case then perhaps more mental or verbal abuse, but again he didn't show any signs of that either. He was kind, determined, and his self-esteem never seemed to be a problem. Then again she was no real expert on the subject and could only be making assumptions based on her limited knowledge. Still, something about this never settled right in her stomach.
"I bet you they probably left some donuts for us over in King of Pastries."
Spitfire raised a brow.
"I thought you hated that place?"
Rumble looked up from his reflection cheeks red.
"Yeah well, at least I won't be so hungry."
"you mean so you can say hi to a certain filly friend?"
His blush deepened as he tried to stutter out a reply. This caused the mare to laugh. No matter how hard he tried to hide it, it was obvious enough. Then again who was she to judge? It's not like she had any real interest in either party.
"Alright, big man let's go see your so-called friend Song Dancer."
His glare made her laugh even more.

"Hey, at least the donuts were good".
Rumble merely sighed.
It turns out that Song Dancer had a certain friend over for a playdate. When the trio saw this Rumble's expression fell.
Spitfire frowned. She didn't want to see her friend be hung up over something small. Plus for all they knew the two could have very well been cousins. The type that holds hooves and kisses each other on the cheek but still.
Okay, that only sounds better in her head.
"I shouldn't have even bothered it would make things more complicated for us anyway'".
Spitfire snorted bopping him on the head causing him to yelp.
"hey, the last time I checked im the one who's supposed to be worried about grown-up things. You, sir, can go be a child and leave the stress and what-ifs to me".
He looks at her. A hint of a smile finally formed on his tips. "Even when we both know you do a lousy job at it?"
"Exactly."
The mare nods with an air of mock authority that makes him laugh.
"That's more like it! Now come on it's getting cloudy and I don't want to get stuck in the rain like last time.".
"I don't know the chance of catching a cold might be better than hearing you snore all night".
She looks at him. Her face trying and failing to mask the amusement she felt.
Kid, im more worried about you dying in your sleep the way you barely move".
He rolls his eyes unimpressed before blinking as a memory comes to mind. He then gasped and aimed her hoof at her. His expression is one of false shock.
"So it was you who touched me last night!
Spitfire quickly pulled his hoof down smacking the back of his head with a wing as her face blushed crimson.
"Will ya knock that off!" I was just worried alright?!"
His laughter rambunctious laughter filled the air. Only to be silenced by another munch harder wing slap.
"ow!".

Thunderstruck as the clouds continued their onslaught of heavy rain below. As this happens a certain mare who was hidden inside the safety of an old abandoned truck watched over her sleeping partner. The colt was dead silent with the only indication that he was simply resting would be the rise and fall of his chest.
Smiling to herself Spitfire turned her head slightly to look out the window. She watched the sky light up in brilliant colors. As she did thoughts of the future played out in her mind. She knew that eventually if she didn't play her cards right the only thing that kept her together could be taken away from her in an instant.
She didn't want that.
She never wanted that.
She mentions his parents, but in reality, the mare isn't sure if she will be able to give him up just like that. Not after finding him at the lowest point of her entire life. Without him, she wasn't sure how much she would be able to move and wake up every day to this type of lifestyle by herself. At least not without losing another piece of herself that'll make the world so much dimmer. However, she aslo knew the truth and that is that no colt should have to go through this.
Especially not Rumble.
Signing again Spitfire lowered her head in shame before getting in a comfortable position to sleep in. Looking at her colt once more before closing her eyes.
She was selfish, and because of that selfishness, she's recycling the same conflict she had had within herself over 100 times before,
In each conversation, she always made the wrong choice.
