I crossed my legs and stretched my arms out in the uncomfortable chair in the police station, idly watching Trixie in a room talking to a detective. I personally would have liked to have been in there but the officer couldn’t let me in there. Something about being needing to talk to Trixie one on one.
I wrapped a hand around my coffee and sighed. I don’t know why I never really noticed Trixie acting different in the past when she came over to hang out with Lavender or the occasional wince when she moved wrong. I may have disliked her at one point but we always hung out together because where I went, Lavender was usually with me which often meant Fuchsia and Trixie were with me too.
Or the random ass bruising I rarely saw, like the time in gym class in the locker room when I saw her changing her top and Gilda had made fun of her for “falling in the shower” or something. Now I know why Trixie had two reactions when people messed with her, viciously bully them like she did to Sunset once after the fall formal or just ignore them.
The door opened and I stood up, making eye contact with Trixie before I offered her my coffee.
“So what now?” I asked finally and Trixie shrugged.
“Trixie- I guess they arrest him?” Trixie answered after a moment. “She’s apparently gone to get a few other of her partners.”
I inhaled and nodded before I hesitantly opened my arms. I’ll admit, I did feel about forcing Trixie to come here but still. I don’t know, a part of me feels like a jerk for that. But I kinda feel we would have been right back here with her doing nothing about it.
“You better keep this quiet,” Trixie grumbled and she hugged me. “Nobody can know this. Especially not Sunset or Lavender or Fuchsia. Especially not Fuchsia. That girl will beat herself up to death for not noticing anything. And Lavender would yell at me for keeping this a secret. Sunset would leave me. I don’t need our classmates viewing me as an injured dog.”
“I don’t think our my sister would think that. Yeah, she’s gonna be really pissed but knowing Lavvie, it’s gonna be more so directed at herself,” I answered and hugged her back.
“I don’t even know where I’m going to sleep. Probably the shelter,” Trixie sighed and shook her head as I inhaled.
“No you’re not,” I admitted and smiled slightly. “You uh can come stay with us? I’m sure I can convince Mom and Dad to allow you. I won’t tell them everything but I’m gonna have to tell them something.”
“Why?”
“You’d do the same for me,” I answered after a moment of thinking. “It’s the right thing to do I guess. And you know damn well as I do that Sunset would take you in if she knew. Or Lavender would yell loud enough till she got her way.”
“I know.”
“You’re gonna have to tell her at some point. You know Lavender as well as I do. Once she feels something is wrong, she’s gonna work hard to get to the bottom of it. Might as well bite the bullet,” I said casually as we watched a few other officers leaving with the same detective Trixie had been talking to. “We can go to my house. I don’t think you want to be there when he gets dealt with.”
“I agree. He’d probably be mad,” Trixie hugged herself and I hesitated before hugging her myself. “Thanks Cloudy. For everything.”
“Anytime.”
I carried a box and Trixie opened the door. Lavender was laying on the couch lazily with her legs crossed as she watched some movie.
“Yo!” Lavender shouted and waved her hand in the air. “What’s up?”
“Hey Lav. Care to help me and Trixie get her stuff?” I asked and Lavender paused her movie, swinging her legs into a sitting position.
“Yeah, of course. What’s happening?” Lavender shot us a confused look as Trixie walked up to my room with a box. “Sis?”
“There’s been uh a complication,” I answered and my eyes flicked upstairs. “A big complication. Trixie is gonna be staying with us for a bit.”
“Did you tell mom and dad? I’m not entirely sure they’re gonna be cool with a fourth person to feed in the house. Where will she even sleep?” Lavender asked as she took the box from me and my arms screamed in relief. “Though I will admit, I always wanted to have her over more.”
“With me, duh. Where else would she sleep? Alula’s room is always no go, mom and dad’s is for the obvious reasons. I don’t think you’d make her sleep on the floor-”
“Hell no. I’d sleep on the floor, she got my bed,” Lavender interjected and I chuckled. I had a feeling she’d say that. “Cloudy, what is going on?”
“Look, you talk to Trixie. She begged me to not talk about it without her there at least and I think you two should settle it on your own, okay?” I placed a hand on her shoulder. “I love you, but this is between you two. I can be there to listen, maybe uh get Derpy or someone else neutral to listen. Dash is a no go. She’s awful at staying neutral when it comes to someone she cares about.”
“And she’s a bitch.”
“That too,” I sighed and headed outside to get some boxes of Trixies stuff. Who knew she had so many dresses and skirts? Don’t even get me started on how many purple jackets she has. “Just promise to give her some space. Trixie needs it after the day and God knows how much longer the whole thing has been going on.”
“You’re making this sound like something big went down,” Lavender frowned at me and I shrugged.
“That’s because something did go down. But talk to Trixie.”
“Ugh fine. I hate when you’re all cryptic.”
