Being a Wonderbolt

It all started with me waking up. Doesn't everybody's story? I did what I usually did on mornings. Yawned, scratched my flank, and went to make breakfast. My name is Rainbow Dash, and I didn't know then that this was not an ordinary day. While I was making breakfast, my pet tortoise, Tank, flew up to me. Now I know what you're thinking: FLEW?! Well see, a tortoise is kinda slow. So my friend Twilight made a neat little contraption. A propeller strapped to his shell that enables him to fly and keep up with me. It also lets him hover above the clouds.

            After that it was a pretty normal and boring day. Thunderlane tried to get out of cloud duty, Derpy accidentally kicked a lightning cloud, and we scheduled sunny weather for the day. Like I said, boring. On the way out, Derpy gave us our mail for the afternoon. Now if I knew what was in there right then, I would have torn that letter open and read it as fast as I could.

                      But I didn't.

When I got to my cloud home I opened my mail. I noticed something rather unusual. One of the letters had the Wonderbolt's seal. I curiously opened it. Here's what it read:

                  "Dear Rainbow Dash.

The Wonderbolts and I have been thinking for a while. We were evaluating your performance record and decided that we want YOU as a Wonderbolt. You're the only pegasus we've ever seen do a Sonic Rainboom(Not to mention saving our lives at the same time)! Meet us at our training grounds when you get this letter.

                                                      Signed, Spitfire.

I nearly jumped out of my feathers. ME! A Wonderbolt! I flew so fast to Twilight's library that I almost did another Sonic Rainboom. "TWILIGHT"! That's what I yelled when I crashed through her door. I was surprised to see my other friends there to. Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, and Fluttershy were all there. "Good I'm glad you're all here. I have big news!" I said with a big smile. "What in the hay can get you so excited, you bust down Twilights door?" asked Applejack. "I...have been accepted into the WONDERBOLTS!!" I jumped up and down with glee. "WHAT?!" They all said in unison. "Wow, congratulations Rainbow." whispered Fluttershy. I really need to start coaching her on being loud again. "Yes congratulations. The Wonderbolts, my what an honor." cooed Rarity. "Yeah I know, it's my"... I stopped, remembering that I had to meet Spitfire at the Wonderbolt's traing grounds. "Oh no! Gotta go sorry"! I got out as fast as I could.

                  At the Wonderbolt's training grounds, I could not have been more excited. Seeing the greatest flyers in all of Equestria, and knowing I was one of them was mind boggling. Spitfire, the captain of the Wonderbolts, flew down to me. "Hey there Dash, I was hoping you would show". "Are you kidding? I've wanted to be a Wonderbolt ever since I was a filly! This is a dream com true"! "Well hold on there Dash. You're not a Wonderbolt yet. You have to pass an initiation first".  I tried to look calm on the outside. "Pssh. No problem. What do I have to do"? "You see that obstacle course up there?" Her hove pointed to a huge obstacle course that some pegasi were flying through, "If you can beat it in under a minute, you will officially be a Wonderbolt". "No sweat. I can do that in ten seconds FLAT!" I cracked my tail like a whip. "Alright then. GO"!

                    I took off faster than lightning. It always felt good to fly fast. That's when I truly felt alive. Now you're probably thinking that doing one obstacle course in less than a minute seems pretty easy. But let me tell you, IT'S NOT! I actually started having doubt about this. But I just pushed those thoughts out of my head and kept on at it. Before I knew it, I was at the end. I was panting hard and praying to Celestia that I made it. "Nice job kid. Keep it up and you might break my record. But for now, welcome to the team"! She stuck her hove out for me to shake, and by golly I took it. The Wonderbolts applauded, and I felt amazing! "Yes I can't wait to tell my friends"! "Great, our next race is in Las Pegasus. See you there". I stopped. Las Pegasus? But that was so far away. "Wait Spitfire. I don't know if I can go to Las Pegasus". "*Sigh* Dash look, this is what we do. We travel all of Equestria and back. I don't know if you could stay with your friends". "WHAT"?! I couldn't believe it! Not seeing my friends? "Don't worry girl. They can still come to our races. Plus if we ever come back to Ponyville you'll see them". But she was already gone.

                       I had my head town as I slumped towards town. "How am I gonna tell them I have to leave? Maybe i'll just break it to them casually". That was plan anyway. But when I opened the door to Sugar cube Corner, "SURPRISE"!!! Everypony was there. In the middle of it was Twilight, Pinkie, Applejack, Rarity, and Fluttershy. "Congratulations on becoming a Wonderbolt Rainbow!" Pinkie said with a big smile on her face. Quicksilver came up to me. He's another one of my friends. Not to mention the only pony who can match my speed. Besides the Wonderbolts of course. "I just heard about you becoming a Wonderbolt. Congratulations!" "Rainbow we're so proud of you." said Twilight. "WAIT!!!" I screamed. Everypony looked at me. "I can't see you guys. Being a Wonderbolt means I have to always travel. I'm sorry". That's when I flew out of there.

                   That night I was laying face first in my pillow. I felt horrible leaving my friends. "Oh Tank," I looked into his big eyes,"I just don't know what to do". The next day, I met Spitfire at the training grounds. "Rainbow, glad you're here". "Hey Spitfire," I sounded as quiet as Fluttershy, "Sorry about running off yesterday". "Hey no problem. Here I wanted to give you this". She handed me a Wonderbolts costume. It felt so smooth. It came with it's own pair of goggles. "Well? Try'em on"! She showed me the way to the locker room. I came out feeling 20% Cooler. "You look like a true Wonderbolt". After we started our journey I forgot all about my troubles. The Las Pegasus show went fantastic. Soarin even helped me make my Buccaneer Blaze a duet and it went even better with him.

             We slept in a hotel that night. While every pony else was getting ready to hit the hay, I was catching up on some Daring Doo. But about two minutes in, I heard an owl hoot that sounded vaguely familiar. When I looked out the window I saw Owlowiscious, Twilight's pet owl. He had a scroll in his mouth. I opened it up and saw a picture of my friends. Below it was a message:

                   "Dear Rainbow

  We just wanted to let you know that we respect your decision and our glad you're living your dream. In fact we will be at the next show in Baltimare. See you then.

                                  Your friend, Twilight".

                           The next day, in Baltimare, we were setting up when I heard, "RAINBOW DASH"!! I looked over my shoulder and saw my friends all here. "Hey guys. You made it". "Well of course we did. We wouldn't miss this for the world." said Rarity. "Well make sure you guys get seats where I can see you. I'll see you after the show". I quickly flew off. It felt awkward seeing them after the decision I made. But soon the show started. My friends were the only things on my mind. "Hey Dash! You awake?" called Soarin. I always kind of, liked Soarin. Ever since we danced at the Canterlot wedding. "Uh..Yeah! I'm ready"!

             "Fillies and gentlecolts. Please put your hooves together for....THE WONDERBOLTS"!! The crowd roared as we flew up in the air and started doing our routine. It was really fun. At the end we were supposed top a move called The Blitz. It's when the whole team divides into two sections. Then we fly head first at each other. But before we hit, a pegasus kicks a cloud, causing a blinding streak of lightning. When the audience covers their eyes, we go in different directions an emerge victorious!

                So we got into position. This was it. We then flew as fast as ever! During the flying I look into the stands. My eye immediately caught my friends. Sitting right in the front cheering me on. I got so distracted that I forgot to disband. I slammed with into Spitfire. We then careen right into the lightning. "Ah! My wing!" I hear her cry out. She was holding on just by a cloud. "Hold on, I'm comin'!" It turns out when I slammed into Spitfire, to knocked the whole team into the stands. Spitfire's hoof suddenly slipped. She was plummeting to the ground! I went as fast as I could. "Give me your hoof!" I cried. Just before she hit the ground, I grabbed her hoof and pulled her up. I carried her up to a cloud and set her down. "Spitfire I am so sorry"! "It's okay Dash. Mistakes happen". I looked up to the crowd. "Spitfire. I can't do this. I just can't separate myself from my friends". I couldn't believe what I was saying. I was quitting the Wonderbolts! "I understand Dash. If you ever change your mind. You know where to find me". I rushed over to my friends. "I'm so sorry guys. I never should have gone". "Rainbow it's okay. We're glad you're back." said Twilight. "C'mon guys. Let's go home! We can still have a party!" claimed Pinkie Pie. That's when we all laughed
